One of the final big additions to Xbox Game Pass in 2024 was Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled back on December 4th, and ultimately it ended up getting overshadowed a little bit by the arrival of Indiana Jones a few days later.
This is a game we've been enjoying for years outside of Game Pass though, and some might even say it's better than Mario Kart! Developer Beenox did a great job (in our opinion) bringing this PS1 classic up to modern standards in 2019, and to be honest we've actually enjoyed playing it solo more than in multiplayer for the most part.
Unlike Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled isn't actually as pick-up-and-play as it seems — success is geared around mastering the tricky drift mechanics — and so multiplayer can feel a bit mismatched if you're playing with friends and family. Get online though, and suddenly you might find yourself overwhelmed by the level of challenge!
Anyway, we're keen to hear what you think of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled so far, and whether you've been impressed with the game or not. Is there an argument to suggest it's better than Mario Kart, or is that crazy talk?!

I found it to be a masterpiece, but Ubisoft is preventing it from being on cloud. So I’m unhappy with ubisoft
I haven't had a chance to play it since the gamepass addition but the ps1 version is a staple on all my emulation devices. I don't know if I ever get around to playing it on xbox.
I played a couple of tracks before Indy came out, and that's all I've played in my limited game time since. I have never played before so I didn't quite get used to the hop mechanism, as I've played a lot of Mario Kart in the past and it felt quite different.
I'm sure it's great if I get used to it, but I'm not sure I'll have time to.
The Bots in the single player mode are very unbalanced. Making the single player mode very frustrating.
I don't mind saying it was far too difficult to me. Difficult in a bit of an old fashioned, unfair way. I could get a win in the first three races easily enough but in the fourth whatever improvements I made the CPU players do the same, it felt like I'd need nearly the perfect race to get the win. There was absolutely no easing you in and giving you an easy level championship to learn the mechanics and then ramping up, just hard from the beginning.
The adventure mode asks too much but other then that its a good game.
Pretty sure the Crash Team Nitro racing game on Gamepass is the same game that fans of the series should have bought on disc when it came out years and years ago. Idk why anyone would have a different opinion now that you can spend money to rent it instead of own it outright.
Solid 7, so far. Kind of glad I didn't buy it because it's slightly different than I expected.
Huge Mario Kart fan, I pretty much buy Nintendo consoles just for Mario Kart. I was interested but since there's no cross play it's a taller order for me to try it. I have no interest in one of Sony's several "we have Mario at home" franchises but would play a good cross play kart racer with my friends regardless.
Great game. I only wish it had 60 fps and physics in multiplayer (you go thru other players like ghost)
Great game, just a shame some of the characters and stuff have to be earned with currency you earn by playing online which is dead these days, although hopefully this will change that. Even then though the online is terrible.
I'd enjoy it a lot more in 60fps, after playing the old as hell Mario Kart 8, going to this is... disappointing. Pity there was no PC version, or at least a current gen patch to bump the framecap to 60.
The one thing I respect about it is that all the LTE content and add-on characters were made available in the store without any time limit.
In an age where practically every game has a limited duration battle pass, to see everything unlockable, eventually, is a nice touch.
It’s fun and has great tight controls and good drifting but the AI bots are balls hard
Need crossplay and next gen upgrade
While I appreciate this game being oni Game Pass, don't sleep on the Switch version. It runs beautifully and its a delight to play.
@Arkz yeah, the 30fps means I’ve never touched this game.
I loved the original on PS1 so I’d buy it outright if they just enhanced it to 60fps.
Ugly, clunky, glitchy....it's almost shovelware. Would've been possibly okay on 360, but shameful today.
Cross-play and online balancing is a must.
Mario Kart 8DX is not far behind!
If there is a sequel, I would like to see some of the Xbox owned Diddy Kong Racing characters and Banjo Pilot characters join the game!
Played it & competed it on PS1, but went back to it on the XBox & I cannot manage the drift mechanic now - I always seem to end up pointing the wrong way when drifting - my muscle memory must be too attuned to the more recent style of drifting in Mario Kart & Speedstorm
