It's not like the 360/PS3 era was in the 1980s or 90s, if the files were lost it would be incompetence to the highest degree. Hopefully the files are still there and MS brings the games back. The Cybertron games, especially, are too good to be lost to time.
Street Fighter 6 and, inspired by a fairly recent article on this website, going through the entire Gears of War series. Finished GoW 1 (the remastered ultimate edition), now playing 2.
Yeah, Gears of War is my favorite Xbox IP, I've been missing it for a couple years now. I'd even take something close to the Halo Master Chief Collection treatment for 1-5 just to hold us over until 6.
@AlwaysPlaying It wasn't a great showcase unless you're looking forward to Starfield. I'm not, so was pretty disappointed, especially since there was zero Gears of War news. I was hoping for at least that rumored collection.
@PartyMarty
Some of the hosts for the various podcasts at IGN, and the co-hosts on Unlocked, are annoying but going all the way back to the days when there was an OXM here in the U.S. and Ryan McCaffrey had a podcast for it, I've always appreciated his knowledge of Xbox and the fact he's an actual fan not somebody forced to do a podcast for Xbox just because the company feels like there has to be one.
@PartyMarty
I'll be interested what happens with the Podcast now, too. Admittedly I stopped listening to it consistently around 2014 or 15 but I'd still try to catch an episode once in a while. There's still Podcast Unlocked, which I prefer anyway, but it's good to have an official one for the brand as well. All the best to Major Nelson and hopefully the person who takes over for him can keep a fairly consistent schedule.
@theduckofdeath Yup. And tbh, considering I'm not pleased with a lot of what's going on in the games industry these days, particularly the 'AAA' portion of the market, I find it increasingly difficult to get too worked up over this stuff anymore. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen and the 40+ year olds arguing like elementary school children on the playground is embarrassing.
@Jaxx420 Yup, and Sony has to respond now. There will be those who say 'consolidation happens, it isn't a big deal.' I vehemently disagree. We'll see where things go. Hopefully it's concern over nothing...
I don't like where this could lead but then again, I haven't liked a lot about the modern game industry anyway. It is what it is, just happen this deal can finally go through and maybe some good can come out of it. Xbox Game Studios now owns the perfect non-Nintendo development team to bring back Banjo-Kazooie.
Sounds like some of the coolest Halo content in a long, long time. Too bad it isn't going to be console but I'll be interested to see what PC gamers think of it.
Don't watch much wrestling these days but when I do it's AEW so I figured I'd give this a chance, first wrestling game I've bought since the 360 days. I've played a few matches and the gameplay seems very enjoyable.
Forza Horizon 1 was a game I wasn't sure about but ended up as one of my top 15 favorite Xbox 360 games (no small feat considering the 360's stellar library). FH 2 was one of the games I bought an Xbox One for and didn't regret it. Still one of my favorite racing games of all-time and favorite in the entire Forza series.
Same as last week, and what will be in my rotation I imagine for a long time to come... Street Fighter 6 on both Xbox Series X and PS5. If I decide to play something else it will probably be Resident Evil 4 remake, I still haven't finished that.
Way of the Water is a great movie, didn't care for the first one but I've always found this IP interesting. Looking forward to learning more about the game, it's been one on my list since I knew about it.
$, it's that simple to fix the SE relationship. MS has the money, use it. And on the chance it doesn't get more SE games to Xbox, it'll at least raise the price Sony has to pay hopefully making it think twice before doing certain deals.
Not unexpected but it's just another reason why I get annoyed with how little memory space these companies offer on their consoles (there's plenty of PS5 games with large file sizes as well) out of the box. If there was a way to get an affordable 4TB storage expansion card for the XSX, it'd be a non-issue.
Street Fighter 6. I have it on both Xbox Series X and PS5 but have found myself enjoying it a bit more on Xbox as right now I'm playing with the standard controllers and the XSX one has a superior D-pad making it easier to pull off special moves and and super arts.
I thought Summer Game Fest was pretty good but the PlayStation showcase was terrible, no argument there. I'm going into the Xbox showcase with zero expectations. The opportunity is there to gain some momentum but too many times in the past the people running Xbox have dropped the ball. Hopefully it's different this time because as I stated in the comment section of an article week or two back, that PS showcase was a prime example of a complacent company that needs to be challenged like it was in the 7th gen.
Got Street Fighter 6, not a fan of Diablo or similar games but it's good to see it's been well received by people who do like that genre. Been a slew of great releases here recently across all platforms.
Forza and Stalker are the ones I'm most interested in. Starfield I'm sure will be great but games Todd Howard's team makes have never clicked with me. Be cool if this one changes that. Hollow Knight seems but another one I'm not sure would be for me. The other games all look mediocre at best.
Got it on day one for both PS5 and Series X. Awesome game, easily my favorite of the year to this point and great that Xbox fans get to experience the series again. Huge step up from SF V on the single player front right out of the gate which is what I was hoping for.
There are a ton of original Xbox and 360 games I'd love to see get brought over but the one I want the most is The Chronicles of Riddick Escape From Butcher Bay. That was the game that I bought an Xbox for and wasn't disappointed, one of my all-time favorites.
One thing I noticed right away when I got my Series X back in December 2021 is how much quicker it downloads and installs games and DLC than my Xbox One ever did. If MS manages to improve this, that'd be great, but even now the experience has been so much better with this console that my split on purchases of multiplat games on Series X and PS5 is about even, where as last gen I bought all 'AAA' multiplats on PS4 with the exception of a few Ubisoft releases.
@GiveMeMoney I'd just like it to get back to how it was in the 7th gen when all 3 were thriving. I'm more of a PlayStation guy but like you I also game on other platforms. I've bought each Xbox so I want to see the brand thriving and it would also benefit gaming as a whole for Sony to have strong competition again.
@GiveMeMoney
Yeah, that last PlayStation Showcase was a prime example of a complacent market leader in need of strong competition. The door is open for MS to do something here but when an exec from the company says 'keep an open mind,' that, to me, doesn't signal this is going to be the kind of show the Xbox brand needs it to be. Hope I'm wrong and my expectations are surpassed big time because the Series X is a great piece of hardware, I just don't think MS has taken advantage of it like it deserves.
Truly disgraceful what MS allowed to happen with this franchise and Frank O'Connor played no small part in it spiraling downward. Unfortunately the only studio I'd trust to save the series is now Sony owned and even if it wasn't I'm still not completely sure the new Bungie could fix things. Starting to think it might just be best to let Halo end and make DOOM the new flagship exclusive FPS for the Xbox brand.
@Kaloudz I'd say play them all, even Judgment. The latter is much different than the numbered games, has more of an arcade feel to it, but the shooting galleries are still fun.
@Fenbops
Agree about the open world. I love exploring and don't mind open-ended environments but to me Gears has always been about the moment-to-moment set piece shootouts so I do hope in 6, if they go 'open' again they cut down on the scale a bit.
I might be in the minority on this but I really like 4 and 5. Yes, 4 'played it safe' and 5 had some story choices I didn't like (especially the unnecessary and idiotic forced decision at the end) but I'm still hyped for 6, few third person shooters are as fun just from a pure gameplay perspective.
Been playing the game on PS5 and really like it a lot. The one thing that really annoys me, though, and this isn't exclusive to Wanted: Dead but has happened in other games too, is having to beat it on all difficulties to get the real ending. That's just an obnoxious tactic.
Main focus will be Dead Space remake (Xbox Series X) but might work in a few other games. Still going through Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion (PS5) as well.
One of my favorite games from last year. I'll third person a try but will probably go back to first person very quickly since I'm so used to playing the game that way.

On Xbox, still Street Fighter 6, AEW: Fight Forever and gotten back into Super Street Fighter IV, just recently bought the DLC to upgrade it to Ultra.
