Masses of user reviews for Starfield are starting to roll in on aggregate platform Metacritic, and as you probably guessed, the overall user rating is significantly lower than the average critic score.
This is becoming a bit of a formality when it comes to huge, particularly hyped AAA video games - and Starfield hasn't escaped the trend. Admittedly, the current user score of 5.4 / 6.1 (depending on the platform) isn't the worst we've seen, but there are lots of zero and one ratings seemingly designed to drag the overall number down.
The score dropped to an even lower number yesterday:
Fortunately, user reviews on other platforms seem to be faring much better. While the Xbox Store hasn't completely avoided a wave of 1-star reviews it still sits at 3.5/5 at the time of writing, while over 25,000 Steam reviews are currently amounting to a 'Very Positive' rating.
The overall picture is good then, and now that our Pure Xbox review is also live, you can see what we think of Bethesda's latest effort. Just maybe avoid the user section on Metacritic, although we probably didn't have to tell you that did we?
A 1/10 rating for Starfield is ridiculous, right? Leave your thoughts on the game so far down below.

Eurogamer employees must still be mad 😮💨
Review bombing games is like hanging your washing out to dry in a rain storm.
Why don’t metacritic just close this part of the service down and that will be the end of that.
It’s just venomous, disgraceful and pure baiting.
Love to see Jackie Daytona, average space guy repping the cover image
@HelloCraig he's not amused
This is what happens when you let the clowns out of the circus.
Also you should have to verify you own the game and have played for at least 5-10 hours before you can post a review.
The thing is some people seem to only rate a 1 or a 10 and feel they have to defend their console of purchase to the death. Or anything they follow for that matter if there is a competitor. There are no shades of grey for these people. It's never just one sided though as this kind of thing will equally incite others to defend the game and review bomb a rival game with this being their justification.
Gamers have 3 options to play, PC: current gen xbox and streaming. All at different price points. If you wanna play, you can. All this brand loyalty just means you miss out on games.
Meh nobody takes any of these on board anyway ,spiderman 2 will be next
Although I wasn't aware of this before reading this article, this mentality is precisely why I said yesterday that Starfield will not win any Game of the Year Award where it is chosen by the public, and in my own, personal opinion, an award from the public was the only chance that Starfield had when up against Baldur's Gate 3, as I think that title will be the one that will win all GotY Awards chosen by the 'professionals'. Gamers that play on a PlayStation only are never going to vote for Starfield. Let's be honest, most in that situation had quietly (or not so quietly!) hoped that Starfield would bomb as the purchase of Bethesda my Microsoft still stings. It now rankles even more that the game has released to very good reviews. Starfield getting such positive appraisal has once again kicked the hornets nest.
Regardless, what this really demonstrates it the ridiculously juvenile mentality of some people. An honestly held opinion after having played the game yourself is one thing, but to leave a review on a game that you haven't even touched is simply moronic...
Pretty embarassing for the Playstation lot really.
I saw someone saying they were glad this “flop of a game didn’t come out on Playstation”, which is pretty sad. But also would have more impact had they said nothing at all. I don’t understand the goal; since a comment like that isn’t going to make me stop playing - if anything it makes me more grateful I get to play it and enjoy it even more.
So according to these reviews it's on par with Superman 64. Seems about right I am sure. I'll make my mind up when I get home and can try it out but I have a feeling it will be a bit better than a 0 or a 1.
Badge of honor at this point
@OldGamer999
Because money!
Not available on my Playstation - 1/10...
Can't get the game working on my PS5, broken game - 0/10...
LOL
@Kezelpaso probably because he lost his toothpick! Damn shame.
@Fiendish-Beaver On that logic I'd expect BG3 to win all the GotY titles, although I hope Zelda wins more than most. It's probably the only exclusive that doesn't get the same level of hate as the others. Starfield and Spiderman 2 stand no chance!
@GrumpyDev too true. I'd argue it's worse for PS games because they generally have had a larger number of AAA exclusives that are higher quality / goty contenders over the last 10 years or so.
Let's not pretend that PS exclusives don't get review bombed either. Fanboys aside reading through the reviews it seems that the mentality from many these days is that a game is either a 9-10 or a 0-1 and there's no in between. It's fair enough to have issues with a game or it not be for you but scores should still be awarded fairly based on the quality of the game.
@Ocat
That’s interesting how do they get money out of people doing the user reviews.
I really don't know why these sados do this....I have literally never bothered to read user reviews or even pay attention to the scores of users...because always been aware there are to many bell ends out there with no life who give fake reviews
You just feel sorry for the developers who have clearly put so much time and effort into something, for others to spread toxic nonsense. I do hate people sometimes...
@GrumpyDev happy to bash them; as if anyone is doing the same on Xbox’s side they should also be called out. Just pointless all round; people wasting their time on that crap.
Good thing is it’s keeping Starfield in the headlines.
I saw a post on twitter before the game launched and they were bragging about making 100s of accounts to review bomb Starfield. The sad part is, I actually thought they were joking!
Agreed, @StonyKL. However, if Spiderman 2 is GotY worthy (and I hope it is as I have the Collector's Edition pre-ordered) then it does stand a chance in the public chosen awards as the sheer number of people that game on the PlayStation far exceeds those on the Xbox. And so if both sets of gamers vote for their own proprietary game, rather than effectively vote down the other console, then Spiderman 2 does have a chance, and likely far more than Starfield.
As for TotK, I'm not so sure it will do so well. I own the game, but have not yet played it, but I have seen a lot of people upset that it isn't really an evolution on the first game. Many have said that it feels and plays like a very big expansion to BotW. So that negativity around the game could harm it in the public vote.
@GrumpyDev always has been, always will be 😮💨
Shows how salty ponies are about Xbox getting a fantastic console exclusive.
@Darylb88 verify and time/achievement tracking should also be a requirement for profesional reviewers, imo.
@OldGamer999
Generates traffic to Metacritic. Metacritic has ads. The more traffic the more add revenue.
There is no doubt that of the game systems - pc, nintendo, ms and sony - sony fans are the absolute worst and it isn't a contest.
I don't mind this speeding up the demise of game reviews though to be honest. They are increasingly pointless every day and it wouldn't matter if AI wrote them. People aren't even reading them they are treating them like a horse race.
Slap a fake, random number on the game, let people "engage" by fighting on the internet and be done with it.
I have seen some people give it a 1 or 0 on Xbox because it's only 30fps.
How did these people get through the X1/PS4 era if 30fps is broken or unplayable?!
There is like 1% of the gaming community having a royal rumble on Twitter and Reddit over console wars and organising to review bomb games because they have nothing better to do with their sad existence.
Then the other 99% of gamers is just playing the games they like and enjoy and not caring one second about the console warriors.
There are more people playing Starfield right now lost to the stars and having the time of their lives than there ever will be hating this game.
Just ignore them.
Removed - trolling/baiting; user is banned
@GamingFan4Lyf @Cashews I mean, I don’t like the 30fps. Sometimes it does hurt my head in games and I can see the blur 90% of the time I play Starfield, but I’m still playing the game and enjoying it. It’s not a deal breaker.
But the real problem I have with the game is lack of keyboard and mouse support on Xbox. I’ve had to lower the difficulty because my right thumb is so bad at aiming. But again, I’m still playing it because it’s not a deal breaker.
And neither of these things would make me give this game a low score.
@S-Bacc back when Oblivion came out a big complaint were the loading screens when you entered and left a building. It is a real complaint but it has been a part of Bethesda for as long as they've been around.
For me, I accepted their jank because they make great, immersive games.
@Kienda I hear you on that one. I really want to play the new Cities coming out on this console but also really don't want to play it with a controller.
Im not sure that user review scores serve any purpose any longer seeing how they are 'weaponised' and so now just fit into the narritive of fake news. They should go on metacritic - and im afraid on steam too. They no longer help a user make an informed purchase.
Im gutted Ive waited so long to play this game and its so sickness inducing I cant, but thats not something I could legitimately down score this game for, and yet thats almost the way user scores are used today.
I think everyone must surely acknowledge this is a fantastic game, maybe not a masterpiece, but a game with scope like few others that you can get lost in. A few disgruntled user scores will not change the reality of a game thats being almost universally celebrated.
I hope I can play on pc with fov adjusted and much higher frame rate (3090, so figers crossed)
@Fiendish-Beaver I think that Spiderman 2 will have the same problem you mentioned TotK has. I've already seen a few comments from people saying it just looks like a big expansion too.
If it’s an PS5/Xbox/Nintendo exclusive I just ignore the user score these days and read the actual reviews.
It’s pretty easy to tell which reviews to take seriously and which ones are nonsensical fanboy rants.
@Titntin I kind of think the only option now is trusted youtubers - so you can see parts of the game for yourself while they "review" it. See a normal person just talking about the game and why they think this or that. but then you run the risk of spoiling it.
If reviews are important to you I can't think of another way honestly.
Personally I judge a whether or not to get a game based on buzz AFTER a game is released. For instance, Elden Ring got such overwhelmingly positive buzz I felt real fomo. Even Hogwart's - not for me but my kids who are Potter fans.
That is the only way I know how to do it properly.
I hope you find a way to play the game my man.
@Kienda Agreed. It’s the vocal minority. Not even worth giving them the oxygen.
Any adult doesn’t give a ***** and either plays on multiple systems or doesn’t care.
What causes your sickness, @Titntin? Is there a setting that could be implemented that would prevent it?
Have you considered those wristbands that press on the nerves (I think) that people wear to prevent travel or sea sickness?
So many sad cases and blind platform warriors. It's to be expected of any major exclusive sadly.
@EvenStephen7 exactly.
It’s okay to have a favourite, but that doesn’t mean you have to hate on someone else’s favourite or ruin something someone else enjoys.
I agree with you both @Cashews and @Tintin. I often refer to Steam because generally the reviews stretch into the thousands and often tens of thousands. I also only go by the professional Metacritic score. And finally, I also use certain people on YouTube, my favourite being Fextralife.
Anywhere that it is uncertain whether the person has even played the game, or where people use it as a forum to further console wars isn't worth paying any attention to...
@Fiendish-Beaver they also have little pressure pointed patches you put behind your ear for sea sickness.
I really do think it is a mind over matter trick though. I've been on the sea since I was little - gotten queasy a few times and just center myself, then steel myself and breathe in through the nose and keep my eyes on the horizon. It works.
My wife gets car sick at times. I roll down the window and tell her to look at the horizon and it goes away. She hates that i can solve it but it goes away.
Point being it truly is in the head - which means it can be controlled.
See, as much as I may moan about some review publications, at least they show decorum. This is just lawless nonsense again. Humans are the dirt worst.
@Cashews As an owner of all I think Xbox people are the worst.
@Kienda Can't you turn motion blur off? That might help.
@S-Bacc Ocarina of Time ran at 20fps on N64. Worst experience of my life. /s
@InheritNegative is it though? The biggest console wars I can think of was the 360/PS3/Wii era. People were vitriolic - and I happily took part. It was great fun. I was younger and more stupid (I'm still stupid). A game within a game. Console wars mean people are invested and the companies are doing something RIGHT. If no one cares then some system simply doesn't have anything. That was last gen - it was the PS4 or bust.
Now with the Switch's dominance, finally good sales with the PS5 and good games hitting the Xbox - it's a real war. Pick up a weapon and enjoy it I say!
Sony ponies once again I assume.
Why even post these articles? It just fuels pointless bashing of one another.
@Cashews We all find reviewers whos integrity and judgement we trust, and others we find highly suspect, so we can weight reviews ourselves, and this is much more tailored to our tastes than the 'all in' metacritic approach. I tend to trust Ralf at skillup, I dont always agree with him but hes balanced enough I can usually tell if its for me.
I really hope I play it too, been waiting too long for a new bethusda classic and I'll be so gutted if I cant play it. To be fair, I do suffer badly from such issues, though ive not gotten it from anything other than the fastest twitch shooters before. A 10 minute go of my friends vr1 left me ill litrally for weeks with vertigo, and thats unusual even for those who get very ill, so im obviously a bit prone to this. I played 4 or 5 hours on wednesday and Ive not been able to play a game since, was still physically sick yesterday, today just a little 'swimmy'. Im hoping to play games again tommorrow, but i might wait a little bit before trying Starfield again 😁 Im insanely jealous of all of you playing it!!!
Well that's not very nice.
To get that out of the way, playing on all 3 systems. Starfield is not a perfect game or a master piece, but it is a very good, polished game. Fanboy-ism and 0-1 ratings are just ridiculous and immature. Internet needs to think of a better ratings system before people just start avoiding crowd-sourced reviews.
@Realist good article on exactly why they post
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/starfield-review-controversy-traces-game-journalisms-orbital-decay-this-week-in-business
@Titntin gosh - to be honest I'd be nervous if it took longer than a few minutes of not playing I was still feeling the effects of a game. Not that you should be nervous - I just do not feel that way at all. hope it gets sorted - but if it doesn't - no game, except Katamari Damacy, is worth having vertigo over. Starfield included.
@Fiendish-Beaver Im not sure mate. Im told fov can help, and switching off the motion blur. I seem to be a little prone to it.
I hadnt heard of those wrist straps, so im gonna immediately investigate that, thanks dude!
@Titntin look at the little pressure point band aids as well. Both are cheap things to try out. why not right? it can't hurt.

Removed - offensive remarks
So people who want to play the game, but can't, got to Metacritic to vote it down and never play the game.
People who can play the game, never look at Metacritic, just play it and have (potentially) a great time (I know I do).
You tell me, which group you'd rather belong to...
The entire discourse around Starfield has been as unhealthy as a seven-course dinner at Pizza Hut. This might be what rock bottom looks like. It's been real, y'all.
@OldGamer999 Because, rare instances like this aside, user scores are generally more reliable than bought and paid for critics reviews.
A better solution would be to work with platforms so that you may only leave a review if it is verified you own it. The same way Steam does it.
@Cashews Both arriving tomorrow. I'll play this game if it kills me.... though I'd rather it didnt.
@Titntin DONT YOU DARE DIE ON US*
*but if you do die make sure you get the free spaceship in the main settlement you reach in the basement of the United Federation center first
let us know if they work. I've heard good things and I've heard they are a placebo. My wife uses the wristband if we go scuba diving - mixed reviews.
I made some harsh remarks, it wasn't relating to anyone here or at other reedpop communities but in short some other internet realms are ridiculous.
No problem, @Titntin. Happy to help. I just did a very quick Amazon search and using the search 'MOTION SICKNESS BANDS' brought up loads including 2 pairs for just £2.99 delivered. They were rated 4*. Obviously there maybe better rated ones, but they are clearly easily available.
I occasionally suffer the same when gaming, mate. Although I've not tried the wristbands for myself, I used to have some for my daughter who used to get travel sickness, She's 35 now, so there's that! 😂 Personally, I had to stop playing the Avicii (RIP) rhythm game for exactly the same reason. After about 20 minutes I was done, and it got to the point I couldn't face playing it, which is a shame as I love his music...
You may well be right, @Kevw2006. It is difficult to know how a game like this is truly going to differentiate itself from the previous game. It's always going to look much the same, and as it has the same central character, there is only so much you can really change.
Personally I'm really looking forward to playing Spiderman 2, for which I have the Collector's Edition on pre-order. Thing is, I really cannot see me playing it this year as I still have to finish Baldur's Gate 3 (in which I have only just started Act 2), and I am yet to start my Starfield game. That's two massive games that'll likely each take at least a month to play. I mean, it's a good problem to have, but still, there are so many good games right now, and I only have so much time... 😂
I don’t play attention to main stream reviews let alone user ones. Metacritic is the sh*ts I wish everyone would just start ignoring it.
@HelloCraig LOL!
@Realist I can't think of an instance where xbones or nintendo fans tried to dox an employee of sony because they play a rival's video game for one day.
Not to say they haven't. There are life-losers everywhere. PS only aficionados just appear to be an especially angry, half-witted bunch this go-around.
it is great fun!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: user reviews serve absolutely no purpose. 99.9% of people are irrational morons.
Immature stuff from i'm guessing PS fanboys.
You have to be a pretty sad, pathetic person to review bomb a game just because it doesn’t appear on your console of choice.
@Nightcrawler71 It seems some of the professional reviewers are just as bad!
@Tharsman Never thought Id see you dropping the ponie bomb you dont normally engage in the tribal nonsense.
Yeah there will be some Sony fans doing it but I wouldnt generalise it that way. Seen Playstation titles get review bombed in the same way. Last of us 2 springs to mind.
More often than not its trolls who review bomb any game that had a lot of marketing hype just for fun.
Let's not pretend this isn't going to happen when Spider-Man 2 launches exclusively on PS5 from every Xbox die hard fanatic out there. People here still bitch about Spider-Man from 2018. It was funded and published by Sony, developed by insomniac and rejected by Xbox. For those reasons it has every right to be an exclusive before you @me.
It happened with Horizon, it happened with God of War and it'll happen with every exclusive so let's not act all high and mighty and victimised.
Metacritic is pathetic tbh.
You are entirely correct, @Darylb88, I read this article by Eurogamer earlier today:
https://www.eurogamer.net/by-microsofts-standards-starfield-is-a-giant-leap-backwards-for-accessibility
The paragraph that paricularly leapt out to me was this:
Elsewhere, combat can be tricky too. The Fallout series featured the innovative VATS targeting mechanic, in which players can pause time and target specific body parts or elements of the world while shooting. VATS enriches the game world whilst making gameplay inclusive. Its time slowing mechanic ensured disabled players did not struggle with the combat, especially when it came to the degree of precision required to manually aim at enemies during stressful real-time fights. Unfortunately, Starfield doesn’t utilise VATS or a VATS-like system. As a result, its fast-paced combat is challenging for many players to handle, especially with the added verticality and movement options gained by the boost pack.
So, the only game, to my knowledge, in the entire history of gaming that has a V.A.T.S system, is the Fallout series, and thus the lack of it, or something similar in Starfield means that there is a problem? If that's the case, I would expect this to be highlighted in absolutely every single FPS from here on out until gaming ceases to be a thing! I mean, it's just another example of Xbox games being held to a different standard to all other games, and that it follows that therefore every future Bethesda game has to have V.A.T.S.
It's absolutely pathetic to criticise a game for the absence of something that has only ever appeared in one franchise. I mean, personally I'm gutted that whilst playing Starfield I cannot transform into a bear whilst having sex with a crewmate. It's definitely worth taking a point off the Starfield review score there, but maybe that's just me... 😂
@Fiendish-Beaver The absolute state of Eurogamer 😂 between that sort of critique because they didn’t get a code on time and blue haired reviewers who cry when a game doesn’t fit with their ideology it’s become a joke of a ‘gaming’ website. They’re Kotaku levels of garbage. The entitlement is off the charts. VATS was never even about accessibility, it was to plaster over the Fallout games not having the best shooting mechanics and it kind of worked, it was enjoyable. Starfield doesn’t need that.
@Cashews I agree with you and I’ve been saying it for a long time, the playstation simps are the worst fanbase of the big 3 and even worse than the pc crowd with their 4090s.
We should all send metacritic an email demanding them to close this loophole, and people have to verify their legit owned the game
Couldn't agree more, @Fenbops...
@Fenbops the pc crowd doesn't seem to care too much - they know what they have is better - it is impossible to argue with them because they are right. and it can run spreadsheets. so the anger isn't there. they are mostly in it for the jokes. but yeah, $4000 for something that will be middling in 4 years. not for everyone.
the only time they are annoying is when they loudly justify stealing from nintendo because nintendo has the audacity to protect their IPs from theft.
Pompous yes but not nearly as angry at everything.
For xbones you are just happy to get things. sometimes being in last is comoforting.
Is it a 1/5 no. Is it a 5/5 no. 3/5 is genuinely where the game is. There is nothing new to the game. Outdated engine, companions still buggy, loading screens every time you walk through a door. You can't even take off from a planet manually, still need a loading screen. No man's sky had that figured out in 2016. Story is decent, but I'm not that far into the main quest. Maps are so bland that exploring "new" planets is incredibly boring. It's not a bad game, but it's not great either. It's mid at best which given how long it took Bethesda to make the game added with the delays makes this game a huge let down for me. Being better than FO76 should not be the bar.
@anoyonmus Actually many are from the go woke go broke folks who are mad you get to choose your pronouns 🤦
The Steam reviews are verging on "Mostly Positive" territory now, but I think that it could go back up over time due to the nature of the game and how it takes some time to really get into.
Currently, I'm enjoying the game. On the Xbox Series X in 1440p it doesn't look that great graphics wise neither in 4K, maybe that's just me? The 30 frames I can deal with sort off but have to turn away as it sometimes gives me a headache. However apart from that the game is amazing, gunplay is the best thing so far, with this level of gunplay it would've suited a PvE v PvPvE type of style. Nevertheless I'm enjoying it.
@Jaxx420 I usually avoid it as much as I avoid the term “Xbot” for extreme xbox fans (I don’t even know what the word is usually for Nintendo equivalents), but lord the extreme Ps fans have gotten annoying as hell this week.
Also a bit of a separate thing, as much as some want to say they are all equal, I beg to differ. Maybe it’s due to the size of the audience, but the Sony extremists tend to be a lot more click-baity and toxic, and somehow actually be in journalistic positions. You know what… take back that size of the audience thing, because Nintendo fan base is even larger and they don’t resort to as much toxicity.
Anyways when I use a term like that i am not generalizing, im talking precisely about the extremist subset of the audience.
Well...this game deserved that. User score of 5.4 / 6.1 looks more real, then overrated metascore.
If there are ANY reviews or mentions about screen tears, motion artifacts, poor display, etc, all are legit.
Coming from me it is an issue. For years I've (and will forever continue) to make fun of the angelic, eagle eyed, immortal cyborgs 60fps elites that complain about 30fps. It would not bother me as much as bet 99% of those complainers played super Mario for 8 hours a day in middle school at 20fps.
But starfield is only second game I've ever had issues with playing getting headaches or eye strain from. Only other game was Rage 1. Think that game was under the Bethesda umbrella as well.
@Darylb88 Absolutely agree. But be impossible to track and/or verify.
@Fiendish-Beaver Not being smart or mean. But man....in this day and age got have the sense to NEVER pre-order a game anymore. Like as in never, ever pre-order. Just bad idea.
If our leaders can’t show integrity how can we expect average people to show it? I rely on you to comment on the games to guide me as you have proven to be reliable sources…
@Cherip-the-Ripper It would seem they lied about Bethesda telling DF not to share their code. Rich was hopping mas on DF direct about EG's statement.
Whilst I understand your point, @GuyinPA75. I have ordered the Collector's Editions of both Starfield (the one with the watch, which I have received) and Spiderman 2. Both are now completely sold out, I believe. Were I not to have pre-ordered them, I would not have received them. Likewise with my Baldur's Gate 3 Collector's edition, which is now re-selling for well over £1000. I generally do not open my collector's editions at all, so as to keep the items pristine. The satisfaction for me is in owning them, not necessarily playing them...
@Fiendish-Beaver Good point. Totally didn't factor or think you going for the collector editions. No joke majority time definitely have pre-order or miss out. Honestly I'm to the point have stopped ordering collectors. Just have not room in the house. I'm one of the those that pre-ordered the fallout 76 power armor edition. So I'm not the smartest.
For all the low scores people are giving it you also have to assume XBOX fanboys are giving it 10's just do as well without even trying it. Works both ways.
@NeutronBomb no way 😂😂
I just watched the df direct bit on it, crazy eurogamer randomly lied about that in the article, reckon it might be a bit of miscommunication between eurogamer and bethesda US.
Thanks for letting me know, off to Eurogamer now haha
Could just be that the game isnt very good. Having just completed it , i would say it deserves no more than 5/10. It was billed as Fallout 4 x 1000 planets, buts its more like F4 spread over 20 planets, with the planet hopping being more annoying than amazing. The planets themselves are more boring than NMS v1.0, for a game that bangs on about exploration theres barely any exploring to do. The AI is terrible, & the last mission is an exponential leap in difficulty. Main story is ok and id still recommend people to play it, but overall a huge disappointment.
Not review bombed, just bombed. It uses a primitive game engine which can't handle space games, and not enough development time spent for performance mode on series X which is more powerful and lower resource heavy than older lower end PCs which run it at higher than 30 FPS. It's a dumpster fire on consoles and should be taken back amd taken offline.
@Tharsman Cant disagree with the base point. Sony fans have been rather vocal this week.
Im specifying it to Metacritic. Personal view I think its been a useless source for rating a games success for years. But review bombing has been rife there for a long time, long before this gen and across all platforms.
@Tharsman The Nintendo community is so much tamer than the other three communities (PC gamers like myself have plenty of extremists too!) that the only derogatory term I've heard for them is actually targeted at the ones that are critical of the company for every decision they make rather than overzealous fans.
@Kaloudz Just read that review myself. Absolutely no punches pulled there eh? Lol.
Playstation fans doing what they do.
And I don't need someone with an avatar of all 3 consoles telling me all sides do this, they don't do it equally or anywhere remotely close. Playstation fans are the worst, the most insufferable, end of discussion.
@Jenkinss The worst will depend on which console you have. Xbox fans will say PS fanboys and PS fanboys will say Xbox fans. If you align with PC then you are more likely to find PS fanboys annoying since PC is closely aligned with Xbox.
If you're with Nintendo you will find everyone annoying and you will feel superior because you have the best exclusives that you can't play anywhere else (legally)
They can review bomb all they want. All I can say is starfield 100% success. Once again, anyone says other wise are in denial.
@Titntin I’ve been reading your comments about how the game been making you ill the last couple of days. I don’t know what you have tried so far… But you can just play the game in 3rd person if it the 1st person mode is making you ill.
To be fair, it's also getting review boosted by all the Xbox websites.
It's not a bad game, but it's no 10/10 game of the generation masterpiece.
@dnb but we appreciate those who do 😇 BAT!
The best way is to play it yourself and form your own opinion. I have sunk around 10 hours into it and am loving it. Never go by reviews , the best reviewer is yourself 😘
@AverageGamer Thanks for the suggestion. I only played one 5 hour session, but I did do 3rd person for some it. I found 3rd person gun fights in tight spaces difficult, but ok in more open environments, but it certainly feels more natural to first person for the gun play. Im aware it can help though, so thanks for suggesting it, ill try it once im prepared to try it again!
I'm only just feeling better and its my wedding anniversary today, so I wont risk it till tomorrow 😀
@Kaloudz Jim Stephanie Sterling is now a joke of a reviewer and its sad to see how far a once excellent writter has fallen.
Jim is entitled to his/her view of course, but only maintains any real relevance by courting contraversy. People can be anything they want in my mind, but once he attacked 'cis gendered' i was out. He had over a million subs then... Now down to 700k as people are catching on theres little of relevance in a jimquistion any more.
Shame, as in the past when he put his mind to proper journalistic work he wrote some of the best most insightful articles Ive ever read about gaming. That didnt get enough hits though, far better to attack a game thats clearly a huge sucess, eh?
Edit: drat. Now Ive gone and watched the encumbrance video and I really enjoyed it....
@Kaloudz the comments I could only sum up as comedy gold lol
@GamingFan4Lyf yeah, I already turned off the blur but it’s the 30fps itself.
I used to be a competitive gamer playing first person shooters on PC at 120-165fps so I think I got very used to it and now when I play anything at 30fps it’s very noticeable.
As you might imagine the Series X upgrading loads of older games to 60 has been a life changer for me. I’m playing a lot more older games I previously skipped just for the frame rate.
Starfield is an exception though because I really am enjoying this game.
@ChromeMud the game released with much fewer bugs than AAA games and given how huge it is, this was a great feat. The fact that they fixed any major bugs in the first month after release is also very positive. I don't see your point, trying to paint these 2 quick patches as something bad.
1/10 score is much less ridiculous than the 10/10 scores people have been giving so the extremes balance out. Most of the 5 and 6 reviews are fairly accurate, sorry the game uve been pushing so hard is not great. There's a reason BG3 has 9.5+ score.
@Kaloudz stopped watching Him Sterling ages ago, shame as he actually used to make some decent videos about the state of triple A video games, which I mostly agreed with. But man he’s living in la la land these days.
Don't worry guys, I'm pretty damn sure some Xbox fans will be eagerly awaiting to review Spider-man 2...
So far so good !
@GrumpyDev they are a significantly worse fan base.
I started reading that Sterling thing and getting a bit worked up - then I realized he isn't worth the time nor the clicks. He is a hack and the sooner he drifts off into the ether of obscura the better.
It did get me thinking though - I wouldn't be surprised if more developers start blocking out all reviewers. It really isn't worth their time. For Larian it has been a really big boon but I'd argue it is a detriment for most games - outside of the one ad they get on the print.
You and me both, @GuyinPA75! I also ordered the 76 Helmet. My eldest son lives with me, and he also bought one, and those boxes are big! 😂
@Cashews ACG dropped his Redfall review 12 hours early by mistake and said it was the worse game of the year and he still got a code for Starfield. There was nothing shady about not giving codes out to mainstream outlets and it just goes to show when they don’t get what they think they deserve they act like toddlers, make hit piece articles and then push out biased reviews. Mainstream gaming journalism is dead, this was another nail in the coffin.
@Kienda I played Quake II at 120fps once at my dads (I don't have a 120Hz TV), it actually made me queasy.
So, I guess I'm the opposite.
I was not a competitive gamer - too old for that and it certainly wasn't a thing when I was in my gaming prime.
Oh, wow, who could've predicted fanboys would throw a tantrum over this?
@ChromeMud there is a major bug that i got hit by ,if you do the
The Empty Nest and Back to Vectera missions before you do Into the Unknown mission with most ppl the mission glitches and you can't move on cause its a story Misson
Annoying but hey I'd started my game again
Some gamers are an embarrassment to the industry and everyone else who plays. This applies to anyone review bombing anything.
Couldn’t care less. Am aware of this ongoing problem and never ever read user reviews from aggregate review sites. In fact, this post is more thought than I have given the subject since it first started occurring. It’s just completely irrelevant to me. On with the show…
@GrumpyDev observational
Happens to almost every game and when websites like this one, PushSquare and NintendoLife (among others, it's not just these three), report on it, it only gives the attention seekers more incentive to review bomb in the future.
Maybe a lot of people just don't like the game?
I get that some people think starfield is a good game, but from what I'm seeing, alot of people think it's just not very good. I was gonna try it but I'm still on BG3 and given that game is superb I think I'll probably miss fallout 4 in space.
Yes, both games have bugs. The reason gamers don't care that BG3 has bugs is that the game has depth, and larian has rolled out 6 patches/hotfixes already and the games been out a month. Starfield however, has nowhere near the depth of BG3 and Bethesda is notorious for releasing games with tons of bugs they never fix, so I imagine players are gonna react differently when it's Bethesda.
@Kingbahamut19 leaving a poor review is fair enough if you don't like the game.
Leaving a score of 0 or 1 is just disingenuous and leaves the impression that you haven't actually played it.
Removed - trolling/baiting; user is banned
I think steam reviews are more reliable than that where anyone can just leave a bad review, even if they've never played the game. On steam, you at least know they've bought the game.
@GamingFan4Lyf If it worked for Bloodborne…🗿
@RobertPayne556 FromSoftware has got to find some new engineers to work on that engine. There have been much prettier games made that run much smoother (at both 30fps and 60fps).
Love the games, though!
@Kingbahamut19 Even without playing it, you honestly think it's a 0 or 1? I know opinions are subjective, but come on. A 0 or 1 pretty much says a game is fundamentally unplayable/broken and on the same level as Big Rigs, Drake of the 99 Dragons, Superman, or Aquaman. A game just has to do the bare minimum not to be one of the previously mentioned games. I haven't even played Starfield and know it's not a 0 or 1.
@Kienda Lol. It hurts your head? I hope you never watch a TV show or movie, since those tend to be 24 fps.
@Lanmanna yes, I realise I’m pathetic because frame rates hurt me.
I work in marketing. I have filmed hundreds for commercials and produced thousands of videos so I know a thing or two about frame rates.
The reason for the 24/25/30 frames (based on country) for TV and Cinema is it gives that cinematic look. There are also benefits to it, the ability to shoot in lower light, for example, your bitrate gives higher quality image per megabit of file size etc. Anyways, it’s been that way since the early 1900s and likely won’t go away soon.
There is a difference between film and gaming though. But yes, I do see the judder in film. It’s just easier to look past.
Also some games aren’t a problem. First Person games though are important to be 60fps (imho).
@Kienda Exactly, Catch 23 was my fix for 24fps FPS. Even if I couldn't leave that damned island.
