Halo: The Master Chief Collection is already a mammoth catalogue of games containing all of the Bungie- era Halo titles and more, but it's about to get even bigger on PC. As part of the team's 'Digsite' project, 343 has shown off a bunch of old archived Halo goodies that are being re-worked for MCC on PC.
There's loads of stuff in here, from near-complete multiplayer maps that weren't included in Halo: Combat Evolved to prototype weaponry that was left on the cutting room floor at Bungie. It's fascinating stuff and gives us a real glimpse at the sheer breadth of content that just never makes it into retail games due to the complex nature of development.
Two old maps are coming in this first 'Digsite Delivery'; Indoor/Underground and Dusk/Abyss. The former was worked on by Gearbox Software and was 'the most complete' map here, while the latter "was rough to say the least" according to the team working on bringing it over.
There are more maps being converted too, and this is clearly a long-term project being worked on by 343 and a group of talented modders who are navigating the troubles of bringing old, cutting room floor content to a modern Halo collection.
If you want to see more of what's been found in the archives, and read more about how the team is working to bring things over, check out 343's full blog post for more details. We'd love for some of this content to make its way to the Xbox version of Halo: MCC one day - it's super cool stuff.
For now though, the team will be adding the first wave of cut Halo content to GitHub and the Steam Workshop when the next Master Chief Collection PC update arrives. Oh, and another blog post is coming this week that'll unveil even more goodies, "from the E3 2003 demo of Halo 2, to the Guardians cut from Halo 3". We're very intrigued to see more!
Are you into all of this 'uncovering old content' malarkey? Let us know if you'd like to see more of what Bungie was working on back in the day!

Might have to look for a steam sale for MCC since it seems the PC version gets better support.
Why isn’t the Xbox version getting this? Is PC the home of Halo now?
@Benjamin it's technically not coming the "actual game" it's coming via mods (think of it as a joint project between 343 and modders). The Xbox version doesn't have mod support.
@Utena-mobile No reason they can't add them to Game Pass like they've done recently with other delisted games like Iron Brigade & The Cave.
I've been curious about if it had already been released or not, the playable version of the E3 2003 demo of Halo 2. Awesome!!
@abe_hikura Ah that makes a lot more sense.
Damn I miss that halo 2 hype I feel like it’ll always have a place in my heart
But nothing for the console.....at least not yet. That stinks.
I can always rely on Purexbox for all my non-Xbox news.
@Utena-mobile Feel like we've went over this before, but the best solution would be both to add them to Game Pass and give them to anyone with the MCC, like with GoldenEye 007 & the Rare Replay.
@BrilliantBill "But they have resources enough to release cut-content from 20 something year old games on PC of all places."
"We announced that an intrepid team of modders, in partnership with us here at 343 Industries, have been working to restore some of this old content so that you can experience it for yourself in Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC."
Read the blog post and you'll see that 343 isn't actually using in house resources for this. It being handed off to Modders with 343 giving the legal "We allowed this". This is also why it not release on Xbox, but only PC.
I can't believe gamers these days. Please moan about microtransactions, incomplete games and poorly optimised performance.
Let's not moan about 'free' content updates. The MCC is one of the best compilations ever. I've just come off finishing the guilty pleasures cross game list. Had a great time. 👍
Sounds like some of the coolest Halo content in a long, long time. Too bad it isn't going to be console but I'll be interested to see what PC gamers think of it.
