Microsoft has announced today that the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 was the "highest rated" and "most viewed" show in Xbox history, racking up over 92 million views within seven days of the broadcast.
The 2023 edition of the Xbox Games Showcase also featured the highly anticipated Starfield Direct, and it led to the event receiving a 38% rise in viewership compared to the 2022 version.
"We’d like to thank all the teams involved, from the studios themselves, who worked tirelessly to bring their games to the show (many of them showing their projects off for the very first time), to the many, many people who worked behind the scenes to help make the show a success."
"But most of all, we’d like to thank you for bringing your curiosity, your excitement, and your support. Xbox’s mission is to bring the joy of gaming to everyone, no matter where they are – and your joy at seeing the future of Xbox helps us know we’re on the right path."
In our Xbox Games Showcase poll here at Pure Xbox, the vast majority of PX users (45%) gave the event a superb 'A' rating this year, with many suggesting that it was one of the best Xbox events in recent memory.
We potentially haven't got too long to wait until the next one, as Gamescom 2023 is right around the corner. Xbox says it will be bringing its "biggest ever booth" to the show in August, but we're still waiting on more details about what exactly to expect in terms of Xbox's "presence" - more details will apparently be revealed in the coming weeks.

Sony: You're welcome Microsoft.
Well it had some information about Starfield in.
Unless you're a super soldier in a big green power suit you were having a good time in that showcase.
“Oh we’re finally doing this, are we? Cus, I was going to make a sandwich” ❤️
Great showcase.
Would have been even better at 60 frames per second 🤭 I guess Microsoft’s strategy is now to buy up everyone who makes games until there’s nobody left lol.
So it should it was excellent and painted a bright future for Xbox over the next 2 years or so. That Starfield showcase after was just the beautiful cherry on an already delicious cake.
@Moonglow Hopefully Gears 6 is due next year, the lack of anything Gears was the only fault i had with it.
So are they saying that 38% of that number watched the starfield thing? Just give a number to how many watched the starfield show.
Arguably their best show as well.
Don’t make me look for y’all’s comments in June to compare with what you are saying now… I remember A, B and F’s …
@AlwaysPlaying
It wasn't a great showcase unless you're looking forward to Starfield. I'm not, so was pretty disappointed, especially since there was zero Gears of War news. I was hoping for at least that rumored collection.
@Dalejrfanfreak You should spend your energy writing Sony about what is coming after Spidey 2.
@Utena-mobile Think it was just a couple months ago after Redfall and Xbox was treading water, Phil was apologizing and everyone was targeting this showcase as the make or break. The primary showcase was great...but the Starfield portion, Holy crap. I've seen it 11 times now. Reminds me of the BotW trailer and follow up back in 2016-17.
It was a decent show. I thought they’d do a little more since Sony show was so bad. I think it probably speaks more to how rough other shows were than this one being amazing.
@Utena-mobile You missed one. It was what you said plus Sony's awful showcase (and future lineup) that gave this console life.
I am simply one anecdote but I was buying a PS5 for Street Fighter the week of their showcase. It gave me serious pause - enough to wait for MS's go at it. Their hand was of course much stronger - so I bought the X instead. My story is not unique I'd bet your eternal soul.
@FatalBubbles I'd say it was better than average. But it looked absolutely amazing compared to Sony's showcase. That may go down as the worst showcase in console history. For reals.
Okay, Blizzard's "Don't you guys have phones?!?" was the worst. Sony's was second.
@Cashews In real time, Sony’s was awful, but in retrospect, it was ok. I mean, it did have Mirage and Alan Wake. It had the Plucky Squire featured. And Metal Gear Solid Delta! And a lot of people seem to like Spider-Man 2, though I’m totally disengaged with it. The focus on first party games that are live service titles is what made people upset, in conjunction with the fact that the games people expected simply weren’t there, such as Factions. There were decent things in the showcase, but that was forgotten because the showcase was all over the place. Looking at what was presented, it wasn’t the worst showcase of all time. It was certainly better than the Suicide Squad State of Play earlier in the year.
The Xbox showcase, on the other hand, was really intelligent. Mostly comprised of things that are coming soon enough, diverse in style, and seemingly catered to the gaming fanbase, it was a more exciting showcase, even if (Starfield excluded) it really didn’t show anything any more exciting than Sony’s showcase. It was a solid B+ for hype and format and sometimes that means more than the actual content. A showcase that makes sense with a good flow to boot, that’s a good job, Xbox.
That said, I’m a guy that was excited for Redfall. The wife and I made sure we had nothing going on and put the kids to bed early in anticipation of playing that one. How foolish we were! I’m not trusting Xbox on a first party release til they prove to me they can make one that delivers. Starfield looks like it could be a 10/10, but I’m not trusting the company that published Redfall til I try it for myself. If Starfield ends up a 7/10 or less, the hype is for nothing. Not to be cynical, but let’s not forget that Fallout 76 looked really interesting until release day. Xbox (and Bethesda) still need to show they have the ability to produce solid games.
Imo, the Nintendo Direct was the best showcase of the greater “E3 season” though. If we’re talking purely money terms, Sony got two preorders out of my right away, with Delta and a couple indies to wait for. Xbox’s had me… up my sub to Gamepass another quarter, I guess. And then Nintendo said, “Here’s a buffet” and I preordered six games that night….
It was a solid showing, certainly their best in many years, though I thought Starfield did a lot of the heavy lifting, without that it would have been significantly weaker.
I really liked the format of the Starfield direct, and the January showcase that went into more depth about the games, and showed proper gameplay, more than JUST wall to wall trailers with only tiny snippets of gameplay.
I thoroughly enjoyed both the showcase and the extended showcase. That said, I was disappointed by the absence of any mention of Gear 6 or the much rumoured Marcus Fenix Collection. My hope for the August showcase is that this will be remedied, with Gears 6 being announced with a release date for August 2024, and a shadow drop of the MFC. A mention of Gears Tactics 2 being in production would go down a treat too... 😊
@somnambulance I think you nailed it here.
