Re: Xbox Buying Ubisoft Would Be An Unwise Move, Suggests Former PlayStation Boss

Astig

1. If PlayStation are saying it's bad, then it is probably good.

2. As part of the ABK deal, Xbox sold streaming rights to Ubisoft. Acquiring them removed that restriction.

3. Ubisoft is obviously to big to exist in it's current state, so layoffs are going to happen with or without a buyout. In fact most likely more without. Companies are buying the IP, not the people.

I say go for it.

Re: Microsoft Announces Major GDC Presence With 'Xbox Expanding To Any Screen' In 2025

Astig

@xboxjapanfan yes the 360 probably lacks to ability to stream games and send controller moves back to the cloud to make worth while. However cloud gaming the series consoles is exactly the same as on PC or ipad in terms of quality. But it does have lower latency due to Microsoft's proprietary wireless connection that other devices do not have. Instantly making cloud gaming on a series console, the best possible experience.

Re: Xbox Highlights 10 More Titles Coming To The 'Stream Your Own Game' Service

Astig

@Porridge2215 Streaming over LAN is 1080p while over the internet is 720p. If you can play OG Xbox and 360 games then it is 1080p. I would say something is wrong with the settings if you cannot achieve this. You could try a 3rd party app such as better xcloud, xbxplay, xbxplay or alternative that enable you to set a 720p or 1080p stream. Or try streaming from Xbox to the PC and see what the bottleneck is. Probably a setting. Because if your PC is streaming 4k, your Xbox will easily do 1080p.

I have the same setup and both moonlight and xbxplay work flawlessly to any android I use.

Re: Talking Point: What Would You Want From A New Batman Game?

With everything going open world these days, I find myself picking up linear games instead. So I'll take linear please. Perhaps huge Bose bases with puzzles and detective work as others have mentioned. But definitely not open world. Open world just seems like filler these days. Make the game longer by making people find where to go, instead of just showing them.

Re: Xbox Will Continue To Ship More Games On PlayStation And Nintendo

Astig

Playing Xbox games on other consoles will ultimately help Xbox in the end. People on PS and Nintendo will play Xbox games and if they like enough of them they will consider subscribing to game pass instead of buying games outright. Then may even consider buying an Xbox when the see they can play even more games on the console as well as cloud.

This is exactly my story. I was switch through and through. But all those good games on game pass tempted me. Especially the ones that couldn't run on a switch. I eventually decided to buy an Xbox to enjoy all the titles. I won't bother with a switch 2 now. I have successfully jumped ship.

If only 20% of Nintendo and PS owners do the same game pass and Xbox will double.

I believe this is the point of putting games on other devices.

Also I believe people are also correct that selling consoles is not the focus. Getting more people into the Xbox ecosystem is. They don't need an Xbox. This is an Xbox. Right. But you need to cater to the die hard fans out there as well. They will definitely keep making consoles to sell to the die hard fans. They will just make less of them. Sell 30 million consoles, have 100 million subscribers. 30% hard core, 70% casual gamers.

The most growth will be in the casual market. No Xbox, no problem sub to game pass. No games, no problem sub to game pass. Want to play that latest game out, no problem sub to game pass. Why buy the kids a $800 (or equivalent in local currency) console plus $500 in games will you can just buy a game pass gift card and maybe a controller.

Re: Poll: How Many Xbox Games Have You Actually Bought In 2024?

Astig

30 - 40 all digital. Mainly back compat to be fair. Or a deluxe edition on sale. Sub to GPU but use my points to buy or subsidise my games.Trying to slowly build a one stop shop digital library. Replacing even physical games with digital ones and games I own on other consoles, just so I eventually will have every game I have or want to have, ready to play at any time. I know, I have issues.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite Memory Of The Xbox Series X|S Generation So Far?

The day cloud gaming arrived to my country. I hadn't been playing my Xbox for a while. Was so hooked on my switch. But cloud arrived and I tried it. I couldn't believe it was so good. I had access to so many games right in my pocket. Got a kishi like the next day. Got right back into Xbox again. Made me even go buy a series s. Now my poor switch has been abandoned for years. Oh and also right now. I am pretty hyped to have all my owned games come to cloud. I am away from home a lot with little space but plenty of fast internet so a phone, a kishi and access to all my games. That sounds pretty sweet to me. Oh I nearly forgot, rewards, rewards, rewards. I know they are not exclusively Xbox series, but they have definitely increased my gaming pleasure in the last few years.

Re: Rumour: Xbox May Be Gearing Up To Reveal Handheld Device In 2025

Astig

@theduckofdeath yeah those same people say the switch 2 will have the power of a series s. But it won't. I know people love the click bait. I do too. But after years of waiting for switch pro. 8k gaming on consoles and everything else promised. I know what to expect now. Portable series s locked to Xbox is the best we can hope for. I don't even think it will be that. I hope it will. But it will more likely be a portable Xbox one x. To compete with switch 2.

Re: Rumour: Xbox May Be Gearing Up To Reveal Handheld Device In 2025

Astig

I see an Xbox handheld. Plays lower spec games or games at lower res/ features, similar to series s. With cloud capabilities as well obviously. But no PC integration. You will need to subscribe to go ultimate to fully enjoy it. They won't let you get away with PC gp only. Also having it locked to Xbox might make them be able to sell it at a loss to make it up in game pass subs. This will be a portable Xbox. But... Let's say it is a full Xbox complete with dev mode. This opens up to a wider audience. Portable series s with dev mode, emulators and all the wonderful stuff. As a competitor to the switch. That would enough to make it a success.

Re: Microsoft CEO Gaming Division Update: 'We Continue To Extend Our Content To New Platforms'

Astig

Ok so to everyone who thinks Xbox will stop making consoles hear me out.

Microsoft wants to make Xbox a service right. They want that service on any screen.

So in order to do that they need everything running on the cloud. The cloud is essentially rows and rows of stripped down series X's.

Well if the want to stay competitive they will need to innovate and upgrade these series X's with the next gen. They won't be using a ps6 or even ps7 for this. They will use in house tech.

So they build a series x2 and x3. So why not sell those to the consumer direct for those will to pay for it. Make perfect business since to me.

Xbox will be around as long as game pass/cloud gaming is. They will not stop making consoles.

Re: Multiple Xbox Cloud Gaming Improvements Reportedly On The Way

Cloud works floorlessly for me here in New Zealand. Even over mobile data.

*Repost from early discussion

I read comments all the time about people not having joy in cloud gaming or remote play due to lag/input lag etc.

Most problems are easily fixed. You just need to know where to look.

I have a basic list of improvements.

1. Use 5ghz wifi. Turn off 2.4ghz or at least run separate signals and ignore the 2.4ghz signal on your device. Devices can divert back to 2.4ghz because of the stronger signal killing your ping.

2. Wired if possible. Use wired connections. Definitely on your Xbox if you want to use remote play. But even playing on the cloud. If you can wire it. Do it.

3. Use wifi 6. Use wireless networks that are capable of wifi 6. Wifi 6 has much less latency than wifi 5. So get a new router/enable wifi 6 if you have it. Also on your device settings enable signal type/strength. Then a little 6 or 5 will show up next to your wifi signal. If you can always choose 6.

4. Upnp/or port forward. Enable upnp on your router or port forward your Xbox live port. Doesn't hurt to do both.

5. Use default xbox live port. Use 3074 on the Xbox you wish to remote play from. If you have two xboxes one will need a different port. But the one you want to remote to most, put on 3074. Some business wifi/public Hotspots block all ports over 50000 which most of the fallback Xbox live ports are.

6. Enable QoS. Use QoS on your router and if you can, prioritise gaming. Also enable QoS under network settings on your Xbox.

7. Mimo. Get a smart router with mimo or equivalent. Maybe something with an app that you can prioritize clients. Then prioritize your Xbox and any devices connecting to it.

8. Get closer to the router. If using wifi try and get closer to the router. Or if not an option use another wired device as a wireless Hotspot. My work computer works great for this.

9. Check to wifi chip in your device. Older devices have slower wifi chips. An s24 is going to have less latency than a s22. Not to mention way faster than an a03.

10. Upgrade your controller. Using an old Bluetooth controller may well be slowing you down. Bluetooth 4.0 is light-years faster than Bluetooth 2.0. So your device or the controller may be running on an older Bluetooth standard.

11. Wired again. Get something like a razor kishi/backbone. Plugs directly into the USB c port on your phone. Destroying input lag.

12. Fibre. Get a Fibre internet connection. If not available, get the best wired internet connection you can get. Forget adsl, vdsl, satellite or even 3g/4g mobile data broadband packages. They are all going to suck.

13. Use gaming mode. A lot of phones or tablets have a dedicated gaming mode. These quite often limit background applications sucking up bandwidth or processor power. Some even enable a performance mode making the device run faster.

Well that pretty much the basics. If you do some or all that, you will have no problems.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite Thing About Xbox Right Now?

Astig

I hope perhaps when ABK games come to game pass in mass, Xbox does some serious advertising. I mean I have signed up 2 friends who have ps5's to game pass. So we can all jam. Plus they didn't even need to buy an Xbox to do it. They just cloud game. They didn't even know it was possible. I think there must be literally millions of people out there in the same boat. Or kids, I gave my daughter a cheap bt controller, now see plays via cloud on an old phone. Cheapest and easiest way in to gaming. Plus no ads. I hate mobile or tablet games try to scam you every minute. Cloud gaming and remote play are the amazing. People just don't know about it.

Re: Phil Spencer Tells Xbox Fan To Expect Major xCloud Feature 'This Year'

Astig

@themightyant I absolutely agree with you there. Microsoft needs to improve streaming in general through their apps. I have many times before today submitted bugs and improvement ideas to them via app feedback.

While the list was more of an attempt to be comprehensive, I understand this may be beyond some people. But if someone can do only one of these, there will be an improvement. I guess that is the goal. A slight change maybe all that is needed to improve someone's performance. Or make a game playable. Also it may be better for someone to get game streaming to your Xbox one working, rather than buy a series x.

Also understanding why there device may not be the best, could lower expectations to a reasonable level. They might think, this is OK for the gear I have. It's not worth an upgrade.

But I do just love it when someone says, "I did what you said and it works great now". If a guide is writen and if one person does anything on this list and it works, increasing their enjoyment, then it is worth it.

@FraserG would it be possible for an article the teach people how to improve their cloud gaming?

Something in the same vein as your guide to earning rewards points.
