Last week, a massive Bloomberg report on the future of Warner Bros. game development dropped, and in there was a little tidbit about the future of Rocksteady Studios. Indeed, according to the report, the Suicide Squad developer is now back to making another Batman game, which has us thinking about what we'd like to see from a potential follow-up to 2015's Arkham Knight.
Now, we must stress that this hasn't been formally announced yet and would likely be years and years away even if it is true - but that doesn't necessarily stop us from going ahead with a little speculation, right? Honestly, it seems a no-brainer for Rocksteady to return to Batman after the troubles of Kill the Justice League - is almost feels like returning home to the batcave for the British developer.
For us here at Pure Xbox, our overriding thought is that we really want to see what the team can do with an Arkham Knight-style game on modern hardware. The Xbox One title still looks fantastic to this day thanks to incredible art direction - put us back in that world on a much more powerful console, please!
Other than that, despite some fan fondness for the tighter Batman Arkham games on Xbox 360, we do think the way to go is open-world these days. Gotham City just feels like it's begging to be further explored as a sprawling video game location, and as long as Rocksteady sticks to a more dense world rather than something overwhelming in sheer size, we think another open-world romp could be the way to go for the next Batman title.
Having said that, we're throwing this talking point out there to gauge your opinions on the next Batman game. What do you want to see next from Rocksteady Studios?

They just need to go back to the formula that worked for them in the first place and build on it.
I'd love to see a Batman Beyond game...
Single player non live service you want anymore pay me✌️
I just want to see a true successor to Arkham Knight. Gotham Knights and Suicide squad are not it.
I don’t even want a new game. I want a remaster of Arkham Origins. I don’t trust current!Rocksteady to make a good new game anymore.
(Yes, I know if one has the 360 disc one can play it via BC, but I do not have said disc.)
I think a large and expensive Live Service game would be a great choice. The last one was just a warm up, and I'm sure if Warner Brothers double down with an even larger budget then they're bound to get it right this time!
Give me a Green Arrow game or a Flash game.
If it's happening, by the time it releases it will be 15ish years since Arkham Knight, so i'm not too worried about more of the same.
Batman is all about atmosphere and story… nail that and you have me…
A rebooted storyline first and foremost, there is no need to be limited by that Arkham timeline anymore.
I wouldn't mind them having another cracking at a smallish open world but one that's actually populated by citizens. Throw in some real investigation elements and multiple ways to solve crimes and build upon the excellent combat we had
It to be more in line with Asylum or City than Knight. I loved AK but I'd rather have a focused story over the big open world.
Trilogy with the rise of both the Justice League and Legion of Doom.
I’d like it to be based in the Super Friends universe with a Scooby Doo crossover at some point in the game. I mean, I’m just being realistic to my personal taste in the franchise.
The biggest thing with a new Batman is who will voice Batman since Kevin Conroy passed.
@somnambulance I really enjoyed Batman Brave and the Bold on Wii.
Replaced meets Batman. Side-scrolling, crazy vehicles, lots of moody visuals. Not too Metroidvania though. Maybe that could happen before the Arkham retread which won't come out until next gen.
I'd like to see one based in the world of The Dark Knight Returns.
I would like to see more than just villains on the streets and a game where I have to strategically investigate and plan my moves.
With everything going open world these days, I find myself picking up linear games instead. So I'll take linear please. Perhaps huge Bose bases with puzzles and detective work as others have mentioned. But definitely not open world. Open world just seems like filler these days. Make the game longer by making people find where to go, instead of just showing them.
Oh and I forgot. Just make it about Batman please. I don't care about anyone else. I mean who does. I know it's cool these days to add in Bat Girl or Robin. But don't. Just Batman and I guarantee it will sell.
Batman’s story is done
Hear me out on this one–
Custom...gadgets. Have a gadget store, an R&D department, or whatever. Give me the option to build and upgrade HUNDREDS of traversal and combat gadgets.
So tears of the kingdom... but Batman
@PhileasFragg who knows, if they play their cards right, WB Games could double the amount of money they lost on Suicide Squad. Never say never 👍
Do a proper sequel to Arkham Knight, single player story no live service elements. Keep it dark and moody. Pretend Suicide Squad never existed and just quietly move on.
@Markatron84 I hate to see game companies go under as it's the people who actually make the games who are hurt the most not the people who made the bad decisions.
That said WB games is really bad at their job. They need to fold, sell off their studios, and then have WB just licence their IP (which is all WB have going for them) to other developers. WB NEEDS quick cash and cost savings. So my money is on this happening within a year or two unless the parent company's fortunes turn around.
@PhileasFragg yeah something definitely needs to change at WB Games. Other developers and publishers would be falling over themselves to make games based on WB's various IP, so licencing them out to other companies would definitely be the way to go. Disney cottoned on to this and games based on their IP have generally been far better than anything they ever put out themselves.
An X-men game. Or anything not Batman really. But I would lose it with joy if we got a solid new x-men game.
Id love a remaster of arkham origins and arkham origins blackgate.
But to actually answer the question I would like another game with the other Bats. Cassandra Cain would make a really cool single player game.
