This is been an issue with a bunch of backwards compatible games for a long time now, where Xbox has the original but everything else has the superior version. But it's only something people talk about now after having egg on their face saying how Xbox had the REAL best version for RDR.
@KillerBoy This. The people that made all these companies amazing are long gone, either leaving for creative differences or fired in favor of cheaper, less experienced devs. It's why I don't feel one way or the other when they shut down or announce layoffs - they're not the people who made the games I loved, and they weren't good enough to continue the legacy.
I'll get it someday when it reaches the $10-20 point. Do the 4Kids tier changes really affect anything? Not really, you're here for the gameplay. But as a celebration of the series a lot of the changes remove little call backs or jabs at the IP, so why even have the cutscenes to begin with? It's probably a better experience if you just skip them. Don't be the frog in the pot and be okay with these changes before it's too late and you're boiling.
G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout Digital Deluxe isn't bad for 5 bucks. It's not Space Marine 2 by any means, but it's not bad once you get used to it. Change the Control Type to Shooter and focus on quick bursts with the Aim Assist rather typical Third-Person Shooter gameplay. Obviously being a fan of the material in some way helps, and it having a Local Co-Op Campaign and Local Multiplayer adds value. Multiplayer plays like a weird, watered down, Third-Person Goldeneye, fun in its own way. And much like GoldenEye you unlock modifiers for the Campaign every Chapter you beat. Collectables, unlocks, & Stage-specific Achievements add a bit of replayability in addition to the Local play options.
tl;dr: It's not G.J. Joe's War for Cybertron. But if you can get used to it or are a fan of the material, it's worth the $5. Just don't pay more than that.
They generated 1 billion before Microsoft got them, now they make nothing because it requires making new and or good games. Hell, Microsoft drags their feet even putting the games on GP or relisting them in the case of Activision. Has the same energy as Disney bragging about the success of Star Wars that only existed before they bought it.
The problem with announcing the Indie port was A.) How soon it was happening, and B.) it happened so fast it gave people whiplash. If it had been a year of exclusivity or at least 6-8 months it would've been more reasonable, but 3 months is hardly a wait when Sony has multi-year Timed Exclusives that they don't even make. The other thing is they went from porting older games to the newest way too fast. If they had been porting smaller and or older Xbox-exclusives for a bit now it would've softened the blow dramatically, but they went from the first batch right to the biggest Xbox game of the 2024. It's really baffling how lacking in common sense everyone at Xbox seems to be.
'False associations'? Games that appeal to the phantom modern audience like Dustborn, Concord, Forspoken, Unknown 9 Awakening, and Star Wars Outlaws flop miserably, while games that focus on being an actual fun experience like Black Myth Wukong, Stellar Blade, & Space Marine 2 see success. Seems pretty factual when comparing the sales, peak and daily player counts, & user reviews. There're more people defending the woke games than people who actually played them.
You also say, "don’t buy what you don’t like", which is what a boycott is, belittling the people who do it and saying boycotting is ridiculous and pointless in the same message, when it's very clearly working when they do it and not when you do.
Lastly fear of change is only bad if the change is positive. You know there's bad ones, right? Cancer, bankruptcy, death - those are all changes. Considering the Publishers and Devs that make changes you consider positive are hemorrhaging money, do you think maybe you're the one filled with 'mean-spirited spite'? Because it seems you want the industry to fail and burn.
@jesse_dylan Well that's interesting, considering when the anti-woke boycotters don't buy things they tend to fail, and when the pro-woke people promote things they fail too. 'Promote' being the correct word since the sales and playerbase counts say they don't play or buy games themselves.
If Sony was going to release any of their games on Xbox, you'd better believe it's gonna be something old that doesn't move consoles and isn't gonna cost much to port. Even then, PC and Switch are infinitely more likely to get them than Xbox.
Depends on the games, but most of them for both Xbox & Switch, Xbox for play at home and Switch for on the go. If it's online-only Co-op/Multiplayer I'll get it for Xbox, if it's Local-only both but Switch has priority.
With PS the only games I care about are Exclusives, and the ones I care about aren't big ones like FF7R or Dad of War, but Dragon's Crown Pro, Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition, the Persona Dancing games - things that could get easily Switch 2 and PC ports at this rate.
See I can understand this situation where a smaller games waits to see how well it does on more popular Platforms before making an Xbox port, but the bigger devs and Publishers confuse me why they hold out.
That being said like everyone else is saying, even if you like Metrodvanias this might not be for you do to the lack of direction or explanation.
Devs need to focus on making the first game good before talking of trilogies and beyond, especially in the current state of the industry where something that might be a complete financial and critical success can still be deemed by the higher ups as having 'underperformed' due to insane expectations.
@nomither6 I really do hate that everything feels the need to be open world now. And for something like an FPS Campaign most of the people who play it want that linear under 10 hour experience. So they're doing extra work that makes less people interested, which really describes AAA games as a whole now.
@Markatron84 I'll never understand the complaint of 'Indie trash' with GP. Do people genuinely think GP would be sustainable either for the consumer or Microsoft if they only paid for AAA games and games by AAA studios, in a time when those games are at a critical low point in quality overall? Or that a bunch of old cheap games like this would help push subscriptions? It's so bizarre.
This is really random and given the current state of Ubisoft, they're probably the ones who reached out to Microsoft and wanted some Game Pass money. Still feels like both parties cheaped out - it's an old game, just add the Gold Edition with the DLC.
I'll have to sit this out like the Persona games - I simply can't enjoy any game that puts me on a timer, least of all an RPG where I instinctively want to just grind for sessions. And I don't wanna either be forced to use a guide or be forced to replay a 100 hour game multiple times.
What could they possibly announce? They're actually gonna remove the hackers that can ban your account? Microtransactions to buy Spartan Points? A poorly done Halo 3 Anniversary added as a $20+ DLC?
I'll believe things changed when we see it. Halo CE is a very unique FPS even in it's own series, and they didn't get it right the first time with the Anniversary Edition. And considering each of 343i's entries feel less Halo with each game, currently it feels redundant to make new games now that Microsoft owns CoD.
I really hope for their sake it's not just for PR, because changing a company's name doesn't fool people anymore when any Google search about Halo Studios will show it still says '343i' under the new sticker.
Outright Games is the current LJN just making trash licensed games so this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Even for the games where there's a solid or good idea, it'd require them to actually try for it to matter. Though even with a good idea, the best execution, & a lot of luck, the best I could see from them is a 7/10.
The 360 Transformers, Spider-Man, & Marvel Ultimate Alliance games for me. If we're talking remaster/remake territory, Simpson's Hit 'n Run, X-Men Legends, & specifically the 2007 movie Transformers DS games, which were San Andres w/ Transformers.
@GuyinPA75 If it's not correct then why can none of you explain why it's good? No duh if you liked Starfield you'll like the Starfield DLC, and that's all any of the people who like this DLC can say. No talk of a great story, characters, enemies, missions, areas, set pieces - just 'it's more Starfield and I liked the base game'. Which is the majority view of the DLC - it's more of the same. Nobody's saying or has been saying you can't like Starfield and any DLCs it gets, but can you all please stop getting moody when other people don't share your objectively niche enjoyment?
Aside from the weird, unnecessary changes they made to appeal to people that don't play games, it's fine for what it is. But... it's just a Remaster. Again. Of a almost 20 year old game. It's the best way to play it I'm sure, but prettier graphics and QoL improvements aren't gonna change anyone's opinion on the series that's very much an acquired taste.
@nomither6 See but Sonic Generations is an exception because it was only available on 2 of 4 modern Platforms and they're adding new content. This is the same game that goes on sale for under 5 bucks, but 4K. And it's a Lego game.
@TheEstablishment I could see it - we know they have 2 Transformers projects scheduled for 2024 still, and considering October's around the corner with only CoD confirmed that'd certainly be the time for a chunk of other Activision games.
There's a few more Remakes for games that actually could use it, but other than that, not really. If they're gonna rehash older stuff I'd rather see more well done Collections like the MvC and Capcom Fighting Collection, things that aren't super available otherwise. But I think most people would rather see new games for existing IPs or new ones all together, and they feel that way for most of the industry.
I mean yeah, a constant lack of new games people wanna play will certainly reduce energy from console usage. That's certainly a way you can spin it. At this rate I imagine they'll not only meet but surpass their goals for 2030.
Feel like you could've found a better Con than "$60 feels pretty expensive for a remake of a 2010 Wii game", because the past decade has been a ton of Remasters and Remakes that range in quality this could be slapped onto. Like the Dead Rising Remake that just came out.
It's just gonna be a bunch of ports every other system already had. Unless they drop something super random like a Blue Dragon Remake/Remaster this is the part of the show the audience checks their phones.
@Pabpictu It really doesn't matter if these smaller projects make a massive profit in comparison to what was spent. Because companies like Microsoft are stupid, and instead of looking at a good return for a smaller investment, they complain it didn't make as much as Fortnite, Call of Duty, or GTA and can everyone involved. I'd be terrified if I was a smaller or Indie studio that could be bought out by such inept people right now.
