It's been a couple of weeks since the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster made its debut on Xbox and other systems, and looking at the "Top Paid" Xbox charts today, it's comfortably in the first page of the list - albeit not making the top 10.
That's probably understandable, right? After all, there's already a good version of Dead Rising for Xbox One that was given away as part of Xbox Games with Gold a few years ago, so we didn't exactly expect everyone to rush out and buy the remaster straight away... unless, of course, it ended up getting 9s and 10s across the board.
The Metacritic score is still very positive - the average for the PS5 version is 83 right now, and that's the version that has easily the most reviews so far. The Xbox version is sitting on 76, and that's due in part to our "Good" 7/10 review here at Pure Xbox - yes, we ended up scoring this remaster slightly lower than the average in the end.
That's not to say we haven't enjoyed our time with Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster though. If you've never played the game before, this is easily the best way to jump in, and returning fans will find plenty to enjoy as well. We just came away slightly disappointed by some of the more dated elements, and admittedly we hold Capcom to a very high standard these days - the Resident Evil 4 Remake is one of our favourite games of the generation!

Anyway, enough waffling - did you end up buying the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster for Xbox, and if so, what do you think of it so far? And for those who haven't picked it up yet, what's keeping you from hitting the "buy" button?

I love Capcom's new games and their remakes. But Capcom remasters are just blatant money grabs. If you have not played Deadrising I would suggest getting the XB One Remaster instead. It is way cheaper and I doubt there is really much real difference.
I'm passing on this one for now. If I ever see it in the $5 bin then I might grab it.
I own the original in multiple places already and was never really in love with it to begin with. Thought it was just okay.
Tried it when first came out on 360. Hated it. Absolutely hated it. It had everything I extremely hate in games. Timed missions and weapons that break after like 3 hits.
Sadly I did not know it was like this before played. If knew, never would bothered.
It’s really a bare bones remaster. It’s the second remaster and still has loading screens. The lighting seems to be better and the cutscenes look a bit better, less jagged, but other than that it’s about the same as the last remaster. If you’re interested get the Xbox One version and save some money, or wait for the next remaster, third times a charm lol.
It's one of the best games ever released on the 360. The remaster made some unnecessary changes for "modern audiences" but overall it's fantastic. The QoL improvements alone make it worthwhile. It seems many people don't understand the difference between a remaster and a remake.
Why is there no option for: I'm waiting for the disc release?
🤨
You know what purexbox, the Series X has a disc drive built in. You know, these round, flat things with data on it.
XBox can play it and many old XBox games.
@Nintendo4Sonic Did the game get a physical release on PS5?
@Ribbitsneed there's a disc version releasing on both machines in November.
@Nintendo4Sonic neat, i don't know why they are releasing it physical 2 months later but neat still
Went ahead and threw in my cap to the Yes pile, despite buying it on Steam. Loving it so far, I get to re-experience one of my all-time favorite games and the QOL is very nice 😁🧟♂️ Also without saying too much, Infinity Mode also made some great adjustments to make each run interesting!
I'll grab it eventually, way too many games I'm more interested in beating first. Completely disagree with everyone who says this was "barebones", it's honestly closer to a remake than a remaster. They used the same animation information from the og but the lighting, shadows, models, basically everything else is better. It's a noticeable leap from the originals graphical fidelity. I don't wanna take away from the people who prefer the og or anything but there's no need to blatantly lie about it being a no effort remaster, which was exactly what the xbone/ps4 remaster was. DR2 crashed all the time on my PS4 esp in the late game. Don't buy that version unless you just vehemently hate any changes to older games or if you can't easily play the 360 version.
If you want the details on DRDR go look up digital foundry's video on it. Much more insightful than some of these comments.
No interest on it.
If they had done something actually worthwhile I, such as a seamless game world, I would have
Instead they just released the OG, with a fresh coat of paint. Godawful loading screens and all.
There’s quite a bit of negativity here from those who haven’t even played the game but I pre-ordered it and loved every minute of it despite already owning the Xbox One version. It’s definitely received more than just a new lick of paint, everything has been changed for the better and is running on the RE engine so you can’t say it’s not much better than the Xbox One version because the difference is night and day. Plus the QoL has made the game much more enjoyable to play. The only criticism I can say is the loading screens, I don’t see why they couldn’t of just made it seamless but the load screens don’t even last 5 seconds.
@Ribbitsneed yeah, that's weird for sure.
@babybilly Absolutely agree. Anyone calling it "barebones" is being disingenuous at best. It's one of the meatiest "remasters" ever made I would say... completely new graphics, engine and models, revamped AI, new items and weapons, redone achievements, and tons of other QoL improvements. Barebones would be like the Resident Evil 4 remaster (not the Remake) or the Red Dead 1 remaster where they literally just ported it to modern systems, increased the resolution and called it a day.
Don't respect the censorship. Really killed the hype for me. Looks pretty but I'm good with the original.
**** these greedy ***clowns until my original disc is playable on XSX, not getting another cent.
Aside from the weird, unnecessary changes they made to appeal to people that don't play games, it's fine for what it is. But... it's just a Remaster. Again. Of a almost 20 year old game. It's the best way to play it I'm sure, but prettier graphics and QoL improvements aren't gonna change anyone's opinion on the series that's very much an acquired taste.
Not yet, but I will if it's in a sale, loved the original, but also played it to death. Was still in the era when I could only afford a few games so played the ones I did have multiple times. Games were also generally shorter and often more replayable.
I already have this game on PS4 and they were calling it a remaster back then. I don't need a re-remaster.
I love it to death.
