Didn’t they already start taking real money transactions to unlock characters? This feels like a serious ripoff. Just keep the beta as is and announce a major reboot coming early next year with a roadmap… like FFXIV.
I dunno about GOTY. The graphics engine is dramatically overhauled, but it’s still just Diablo. The game doesn’t revolutionize anything meaningful about the Isometric Action RPG. It’s fun and I’ll probably sink a good 300 hours or more into the game like I did every other Diablo game, but for me it’s like visiting a home with a new coat of paint. If anything it’s a step back from the predecessors since it’s no longer possible to match make with other players for playing through the story… not a fan of just bumping into other players and hoping we’re doing the same thing.
Encouraging Sony to develop a Call of Duty competitor is surprisingly anti-consumer. I never liked how gamers are spread out across multiple platforms and believe there should be more uniformity on content. Having games like Call of Duty and Diablo be crossplay is important to me. Redfall being an Xbox console exclusive is frustrating. That and Sea of Thieves should be multi-platform with crossplay.
While I want this deal to go through, I am concerned about future control over the franchises that Microsoft will exert.
Initially I was disappointed, but after thinking about it I realized that I may like it more than the Hot Wheels expansion because I like the down to earth races more than fantasy.
This statement is loaded. “3 years after the current agreement” - when does the current agreement end? What are the details of the two agreements? Is the current agreement regarding exclusive content/skins/modes/demos/tests or is it a blanket agreement for keeping the game on the console?
As far as I can tell, the agreement is X+3 regarding keeping extra/exclusive content on the console. Sony needs to take the loss and move on, they have their fair share of exclusives and studios that they’ve acquired over the years.
@uptownsoul It’s the work of editorialization. Though not necessarily far fetched considering that Starfield and Redfall are both Xbox exclusives, which I single out simply because of their high profile nature. In the context provided, it doesn’t seem like they discuss future games - only pre-existing. I don’t feel like reading through 27 pages, but my gut tells me there are loopholes where they could pull an exclusivity on unannounced games or franchises.
While FH1 was my favorite game, my favorite maps are a coin flip between 2 and 3. I enjoyed the views in FH2, but really enjoyed the biomes in 3. I liked the seasonal changes in FH4, but I didn’t feel it was as exciting as any of the other games in the series.
Must haves are a matter of perception. I wouldn’t classify any Activision title as a must have. They sell well, but if Activision didn’t exist it wouldn’t matter because at the end of the day we’d still have hundreds of similar titles. One could argue that their titles are successful because of good marketing campaigns. Call of Duty is a one hit wonder, Blizzard games ride on the developer’s storied history despite many devs moving on to other companies, and since they practically disbanded Toys For Bob - they don’t have any other games in development.
I hope Bandai implements crossplay this time around. The game looks fun, but too often the player count on their games is spread thin across too many platforms.
I’ll side with you on this. As an early adopter, my Xbox One is still alive and ticking while my original Xbox lost access to DLC ages ago and my Xbox 360 died after its 5th year. I totally supported Microsoft’s efforts to bring the Xbox to the living room with the pass through HDMI for cable boxes, built-in TV guide, and native Kinect support. Another feature that was never fully embraced is the second screen connectivity, lots of respect for EA with Battlefield and Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare taking advantage of that feature to give commanders and edge in the fight.
It took a year and a half into the next gen for me to be able to find anon-scalped Xbox Series X. I think we need more in the wild before games go fully next gen.
Interesting that they cut the Xbox One and PS4 versions, but not the Switch version. I guess that means it’ll be a cloud game on Switch unless they comeback with further clarification later that they’re cutting the Switch version too.
Microsoft treats their games as services, which by releasing them on Game Pass they can analyze usage over time and define end-of-life on a per-product basis. Sony on the other hand treats their games as a complete package. It’s difficult to shift, which can be seen in the release of Gran Turismo where the dev tried to go a different direction.
I think the Game Pass model has a lot of potential, but I also see an eventual consolidation if all developers and platforms start their own equivalent service. It would be a repeat of the cable and streaming wars where we see heavy consolidation, but most developers don’t release enough new content annually to justify having a dedicated game pass (I.e: EA, Ubisoft).
@MaccaMUFC Law of diminishing returns is at play once you breach 60fps. Only pros will really notice a difference, and at that point they’re probably on PC or Series X. Gotta give credit to the devs though that they are supporting the game like this on the Series S.
My gut tells me that Embrace Group begins splitting up the different properties and Microsoft ends up buying Crystal Dynamics. Much like how they bought Bethesda from Koch Media. It’d make sense to go this route since MS could continue developing features and functions in whatever Perfect Dark ends up being.
I wish they’d gone the hero shooter approach for the multiplayer. As fun as classic Halo is, the multiplayer needs to evolve instead of remain a Quake 3 Arena clone.
I have so many questions… What is mirror mode? What can coins be spent on? What are music islands and why should I care about character animations? What is the difference between a letterbox background and a non-letterbox background? How do camera controls on the main menu islands impact gameplay?
I’m glad that MCC is still getting attention, but these feel like things that should’ve been added to Halo Infinite considering that it is experiencing a bit of a content drought.
Eh… I’d prefer not. It’s a game Blizzard has continued to support over the years despite a declining player base so I can dig it. I wish it were easier to monetize long term games like this one to support the devs.

Re: Xbox Fans Call On Bethesda To Delay Redfall Until 60FPS Is Ready
Honestly… it took 20 years for an optometrist to diagnose me with astigmatism. Next gen is finally next gen for me. I’ll survive without 60 FPS.

I’ll just take an adapter that lets my hardware work with Series X. I have an Xbox 360 still just for these games.
Re: Poll: How Many Xbox Games Have You Actually Bought This Year?
Two. Fuser and Tiny Tina’s Wonderland.
Re: Pick One: Including GoldenEye 007, Which Is Your Favourite Rare Replay Game?
Goldeneye has a lot of nostalgia value, but Perfect Dark refined the experience and I can’t overlook it as the superior FPS.

Elden Ring is great, but this year it’s all about the turtles.
Re: Pick One: Which Is Your Favourite Saints Row Game To Date?
Second is the best for me. The mini games were just as fun as the main game. Everything after the second lacked the wild mini games.

TMNT and Monster Hunter. I gotta finish prepping for Sunbreak.
