One of our most anticipated racers, Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown, has unfortunately been delayed into 2023. The open world racing subseries kicked off in 2006 with Test Drive Unlimited, and its third and latest entry was due this September.
That's no longer the case, as another game bites the delay bullet. Still, such a delay should hopefully result in a more polished game, as Test Drive Unlimited 2 was anything but polished at its 2011 release, and the series could do with a strong return with competition from the likes of Forza Horizon now a factor.
Anyway, the delay announcement post included a message from the dev team, discussing the decision and a few other minor details. Here's the reason behind the delay:
With so much support from fans of the series, we know many of you will be disappointed, but our goal with Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is to make it the most polished gaming experience in the franchise by spending more time on its development. We therefore want to thank the fan community for your support and daily involvement on the game's official Discord channel and within communities on the various social media platforms.
The team also breaks down how it's trying to create the signature 'TDU experience' by going beyond "just a racing game". KT Racing has introduced two of the game's clans: the Streets and the Sharps, and shown us some of the locations they'll be hanging around in.
Finally, the developer has also announced that it's dropping support for last-gen systems. Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown will no longer launch on Xbox One, releasing on Series X|S only in 2023.
Surprised by this latest 2022 delay? Let us know down in the comments.

Not surprising given how little we've seen of it thus far. Enjoyed the original 2 games so hopes are high but I'm pessimistic to say the least. All the delays being seen show that it's not just Microsoft suffering.
I was just looking at this earlier lol
The game was gonna come in 4 months time and we haven't seen any gameplay whatsoever so I'm not surprised. On the bright side at least it'll be next gen only.
Current-Gen only. Ps5 and Series are both current Gen consoles.
It’s been a couple years now. You guys can call the current generation of consoles the current gen. It’ll all be ok.
Interesting that they cut the Xbox One and PS4 versions, but not the Switch version. I guess that means it’ll be a cloud game on Switch unless they comeback with further clarification later that they’re cutting the Switch version too.
It’s a shame it’s been delayed to next year but I’m happy that it’s going to be next-gen only.
One of things that I liked about the Test Drive games is that you could interact with your car as you drove in the open world, like put the windows down, use indicators and headlights, wipers etc. Those are only minor things but little details like that make it stand out from the rest in the genre, I hope we can still do stuff like that in Solar Crown.
@Solidchief theres still going to be a Nintendo switch version apparently which makes no sense because it's less powerful than both the PS4 & the Xbox one
@Dusk_Actual
Why do people get so worked up about this?
@stefan771 I’m not sure how you’re interpreting this as getting worked up.
It’s a matter of accuracy and these are journalists.
