Many of us had been secretly hoping that we might see the new Forza Motorsport at some point in 2022, especially following the delays to Starfield and Redfall, but it looks like we unfortunately might have to wait a little bit longer.
Journalist and reliable leaker Tom Henderson has advised that according to the last he heard, the game is currently slated for Spring 2023, although he also expects the Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels DLC to be announced this weekend:
While it's important to remember this is just a rumour, Henderson has been accurate with Xbox news on multiple occasions in the past, and a 2023 release makes sense considering we've seen no official footage of the game yet.
Here's hoping we get a full gameplay reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday!

What are they doing with that game? It's going to be 6 years since 7 in 2023, 6 years without no good racing game on Xbox besides Assetto Corsa Competizione. At this point that game needs to be revolutionary or just close the studio and give the license to a more competent one.
That really would be a shame if true. Outside of a surprise in the showcase tomorrow that would be over a full calendar year without one single new first party game.
I am a big fan of the team in green, but they NEED something up their sleeve tomorrow. I call out Sony for a lot of their poor practices lately, and now if this is true, this is unacceptable. Covid or not, Nintendo is showing you can still pump out 1st party games even with delayed games.
If true, this makes the July 2020 Xbox Showcase even more questionable. Microsoft really should've used the Nintendo 2020 approach back then and had:
I will be VERY disappointed if they can't drop Motorsport this year.
2022 is already thinner than a sheet of tracing paper, but without Motorsport what have we got? FH5 dlc?
Loving my Series X and having a great time, but will definitely need a fresh lineup of games very soon.
Oh man, this would be dissapointing and I hope its not true. While i may have other options on 'the other side', I was really intrigued by seeing what motorsport has for us, and I want a few bangers to play on the xbox. I know theres gonna be a lot of great 3rd parties day 1 gamepass, and I'll l wager they have bought a few big ones to keep the faithfull sweet, but we need a few 1st party exclusives. A new Motorsport would remind us that MS can successfully manage a creative team at the very top tier for years.
I hope we get some big suprises, but its not looking promising ....
I am totally fine with this. Forza Motorsport should only have 1 or 2 full releases per generation.
Same with Horizon.
So what's the point of this showcase. It'll just be a bunch of games that don't come out for years? I mean what good is that?
The rumor is that they wanted to shift Motorsport to the spring not that it’s not done. They want to save the holiday slot. Plus the Horizon Expansion is supposed drop then.
If true it means MS is finally starting to figure out release schedules like Nintendo and not release whenever something is done. Although it makes 2022 bumpy the rumor is also that starting in 2023 we’re going to have schedule of releases so if one drops out there is still another one a few months down the road.
The other rumor is that Starfield only shifted its release windows by a few months.
If true it puts both games early 2023.
@mousieone so 2022 will have no major first party releases at all.
Yeah, what does "last I heard" mean? Did he hear about this delay this week? Last week? Last month?? Did he hear about this before MS appointed a new Forza Quality Assurance manager? I wish Tom disclosed when exactly he heard this. Maybe if we had an idea of timeframe of the rumour, we could guess if it still holds true or if we will see a release this year. The wording though gives Tom the chance to state he never truly committed to stating there was an actual delay, if Forza does indeed get slapped with a 2022 release. We've already seen some "insiders" end up with egg on their faces this week with committing to rumours that never ended up coming true (looking at you, Serrano!). Either way though, we'll find out properly tomorrow I guess.
Doesn't matter to me either way - its still coming Day and Date to Game Pass so its not really affecting me. Its not like I had booked holiday or planned my life around 'release' dates of games. The fact they may arrive 'later' than expected is mildly disappointing at the time, but I have never struggled to find something else to play instead.
All I want is 'great' Day 1 experiences and if that means waiting a bit longer, so be it. Its much better than buying a Game and then feel you have to wait months (or more) to get the game you thought you were getting once the Devs patch in and fix all the issues a 'Delay' would of helped with...
Its also possible that some 'news' may well be purposefully misleading. People almost expect FM8 to arrive this year so if it does, then its not a 'memorable' surprise. Now if you expect it in 2023 and they say coming 2022, its better than expectation...
@mousieone If that's the scenario, then I really wouldn't mind that at all. Redfall will also slot into that release window hopefully, so 2023 would start out very strong for Xbox.
@Chaudy ‘maybe” I don’t know Sunday, but I really never saw Motorsport as a “major” release in the first place. Motorsport is sim unlike Horizon. And a lot of people don’t consider sims games; I’m not one of them but again Motorsport doesn’t pull Horizon numbers.
I mean I get the optics argument but the reality is money and the Horizon expansion is probably going to make more money than Motorsport possibly could. I can’t really blame them for not wanting the DLC to overlap with the other game.
The game pass showcase this Sunday
With promises of new AAA games for 2023 😂
@OM1993 I’m inclined to agree with you. But we’ll all have to see.
That’s why a mile or two from where I’m sitting now typing this I can go to 2 different stores and pick up a series x no problem. Greater London UK.
Argos and Symths Toys. £449.99.
There is lack of momentum now behind the console that is for sure, and consoles sell game pass as well.
I’m really disappointed if this is true. An entire year with no AAA first-party titles? Not only is this confusing -Sony and Nintendo have several this year- it drives down my Gamepass value. Don’t get me wrong, I love indies, but part of the service’s value proposition is games day and date. I know my Series X has lots of potential, I just want more opportunities to see what that is/use it.
@Dezzy70 that nice but doesn’t actually paint the right picture. Sony simple doesn’t have enough stock and at the moment MS has slightly more. But MS is still selling through a ton of consoles, so your commentary holds little value to the over all picture.
@Chaudy that's kind of their thing now. Spend 90 minutes promising to release games someday lol
@mousieone
Looking at it I think it definitely shows a slow down in series s/x demand overall.
I don’t want to compare with PS5 or Switch in a competitive way.
It was just an observation of series x have now become easy to get hold off UK wise.
Also maybe Summer is coming and also the cost of living going through the roof.
@OM1993 He confirmed this on Rand Al Thors show yesterday and Jez Corden (Windows Central) seemed to have heard/ agree it was being moved to Spring 2023 due to Horizon expansion stuff
The show is going to focus on whats coming out in the next 12 months. MS next Fiscal year is July 22 -July 23. In this FY they will release.
Grounded 1.0 A 22
As Dusk Falls - AW 22
FH5 Expansion 2 - AW 22
Deathloop - AW 22
Ghostwire Toyko - Spring 23
FM7 - Spring 23
Starfield - Spring/summer 23
Redfall - Summer 23
Avowed - AW 22 - Spring 23 (Closer than we think)
@Darylb88 damn 2022 is depressing
@Darylb88 Ahhh right OK! I didn't catch that video. Thanks for confirming 👍
@Chaudy Yeah I think GP and DLC's will have to do the heavy lifting for next 6 months
@Darylb88 woah, there better be some good game pass Additions. Otherwise honestly what's the point
I hope that the next Forza Motorsport will be made by Turn 10 again instead of Polyphony Digital. How can it take 6 years to make the new Forza Motorsport?
@Kohaku well No worries Polyphony will never work on a Forza
It’s been 5 years since FM7 - wtf have they been doing? Maybe they are aiming at Polyphony digital-style release gaps 😉 either way, this autumn/fall is looking pretty barren for MS.
@Kaloudz "I'm that guy that hits people on purpose, even from the start line..."
Geezus. There's an app for that — It's called Wreckfest.🤷🏾♂️ Go play it...
You people ruin online SIM racing.
@Dezzy70 anecdotal evidence at best is not indicative of what the realty is. With nothing slated at all MS outsold Sony in the UK earlier this year. I don’t entertain that it means anything more than supply chains are better. Likewise what you visibly see is only a supply thing.
@mousieone
I see your point but even with supply maybe slightly better for series x. There is a lot of them sitting on shelves now not shifting day after day.
As were maybe late last year and very early this year they would fly off the shelves.
I.e ten in stock at my local store gone in one day late last year.
Ten in stock now sit there for weeks and most are still there now.
This is a real situation live today as I write this, not guess work real.
What does that tell you, sales have started to slow down.
@mousieone
Stop trying to lure me into Xbox vs PS5.
This is purely about series x sales, losing momentum and slowly down in the UK.
@mousieone
And just to add some more real live facts, said store has not sold a single series s in three weeks and they have even slightly lowered the price to encourage sales and a special star wars game bundle deal.
But still no sales.
Definitely losing momentum.
@Dezzy70 at what point did I make this a console war thing? It’s a supply issue thing. I’ve said that multiple times. I even said “I don’t entertain that it means anything more than supply chains are better.” ergo not a console war thing. And all your evidence is “anecdotal” which is my point, no one can’t make any conclusions to anything right now. Especially you using only “here’s what I see”. Etc etc if you can give me actually sales quotes or numbers we’ll talk.
Also next time try to read what I actually wrote before accusing me of anything.
@mousieone
Well I’m giving real live sales data from the point it has slowed down and lost some momentum.
Then what do you expect, the most powerful and best console in the world, which the series x as a console definitely is for many reasons.
Is slowly becoming this year of a backwards compatible console with no Xbox studio AAA exclusives.
It’s a waste of the amazing series x.
@MiGke
It means Microsoft need to look at their market world wide and distribute consoles were they are need to and can be sold easily.
Sales were up last month from April. I don't think there's anything to worry about just yet. Remember we're not long out of the Pandemic. What is a surprise is that the PS5 had sold as many up until Dec 2021. Both over a million. Impressive considering the ***** show we've been through .
Let's also remember Turn Ten maintains the Forzatech engine and they've obviously had to do a lot of engine work to make the racing engine suitable for games other than racing. Namely Fable. A lot of their time may have gone to that.
But yeah, this is a long time with no racing game. But it's better than the annual nothing but Forza of the past assuming it's good.
@Dezzy70 You've been declaring XboxDoomed practically since launch because you see Xboxes in stores even when nobody else does though.
Yes the delays and lack of exclusives suck and irritate fans, but it's not like almost every game in the industry doesn't come to the console unless you're into niche Japanese games where Nintendo is the most viable console. The only basis for complaining about it is playing console warrior and comparing against PS release schedule. Other than console war PS comparisons what does it matter if there are ever any exclusives? The whole point of exclusives is console wars. I mean that's the actual, literal purpose of their existence....
If you bought xb as a second console only for exclusives, then yeah I understand being disappointed right now. But you know what exclusives are coming, delayed or not. Nothing changed since you purchased. We know more about xb future releases then ps right now which is a plus..............
Ba-dum-tss...
Could we please see a return of James, Richard and Jeremy?
@NEStalgia
I think the existence of exclusives is more a business strategy to buy one product in this case a console over the other. Which of course then makes personal game preference on maybe which console to buy.
For example I couldn’t resist sackboy adventure and HFW so I needed a PS4/PS5 to play it right now.
My only gripe with Xbox is they have created a great console just like the 360 back in the day.
But appear to promise this and that game wise and apart from FH5 and a little bit Halo Infinite have not given much, this year 2022 seems even worse.
Now lets see today Sunday at their showcase.
Maybe I will eat my words and have something worthy of my series x and gamepass for this year 2022.
Remember I’m from the 360 days when Microsoft had their act together with top quality AAA game after game.
@Chaudy yeah their comments made me lol.
“Xbox have finally realised about release windows” is the most positive spin on no Xbox studio games in a whole calendar year 🤣
It’s simply unacceptable in the subscription model to have none. I hope they have a couple of things up their sleeves
@NEStalgia We actually currently know more for upcoming Playstation Studios games than Xbox Game Studios when it comes to games with release windows. Only looking at official announcements (no rumours):
Xbox
PS
You may wonder why I didn't include Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo, well 1 year timed PS exclusivity doesn't guarantee that Xbox release will be straight after the exclusivity ends. Also I included PC ports because Microsoft included AoE 4 in all those 2021 XGS lists even though it's not on console.
Anyway you'd hope things would be clearer on the future of Xbox after today's showcase.
@Grumblevolcano definitely clearer now, though that Sony list is dire for console owners.
TBH the take away from both your list and all the presentations is that we should all just sell our consoles and all the games to fund new Ryzen rigs...
