I’ll watch this simply because I will be able to. But I’m not expecting any surprises.
In regards to the show on Sunday, I actually think it sets Xbox up well I’m the future. The “next 12 months” puts everything in check right away. And as much as people are justified in pointing out the lack of fall content, there will literally be no game released in the next 12 months that will be bigger than Starfield (besides Modern Warfare 2). That includes any other tentpole title you can name (unless breath of the wild 2 surprises us and releases).
And by taking a year off from news about distant projects, that works well, because by next year, there will have been major progress on games like Avowed, Hellblade 2, Fable, InExiles game, Compulsions game, a project Dragon, Contraband, Gears 6/other Coalition project, and all of the others we vaguely know about. Think about it. By next year we will be begging for more of those games because it will have been so long, and at least several of them should be fairly close with gameplay ready to show. We know things like Everwild and Perfect Dark will be this generations Scalebound, but the other more trustworthy studios like Obsidian and InExile and Coalition will be setup nicely to show off their games, without having to do so too far in advance.
Redfall looked more interesting than I bought. Pentiment actually excited me Starfield looks incredible. Sea of Thieves ship customization is awesome! Grounded full story release will be fun. Pelican in flight sim is great. Other than that not a ton for me. But Starfield looks like the biggest game of the next year.
@Luigisghost669 at the beginning of the show they said “every game you see will release in the next 12 months”. Sure there weren’t any 2022 big hitters but there were like 25 games all releasing (mostly exclusive and gamepass) before next June.
Also. I know we will never get this. But I really would like to see Halo 3 remastered for the MCC. I know it was “high def” but it really could use the same treatment Halo CE and 2 got.
I want to see Avowed and Fable. Also I’m curious about Compulsions game. And I’d love to see a tease for a story expansion for Halo Infinite, but I’m not expecting that one until fall 2023 minimum.
@JayJ I agree the world looks kinda depressing. I was hoping for this type of exploration but with more of vibrant color scheme. To me, Sonic works best as a “Saturday morning cartoon” kinda experience. I was hoping the tone of the world would be more like that than what I’m seeing here.
That being said, it looks like a blast exploration-wise. Just missing any characters or npcs. Hopefully they get added to fill up the world! And I hope a solid, fun narrative is written in.
I don’t mind. November is my busy time. And I have a huge backlog. I think panic is definitely on the table (for us fans) but I want to see what happens at their showcase. I’m not expecting any surprise releases for 2022 outside of maybe Forza, but if they show gameplay of a few big games we’ve been waiting on (Avowed, Fable, Hellblade 2) with 2023 release dates then it will turn this around. It would set up the revolving door of exclusives the start rolling in 23. If we don’t get 2023 release dates on most of these then it’s definitely time to start questioning things. I’m thinking 2023 - Redfall, Starfield, Hellblade 2, and maybe SOD 3. and 2024 Fable, Avowed, Compulsion game, and one or two others.
My friends and I always have a watch party. We play games through either lan or local multiplayer and then watch the conference while we eat pizza and stuff. Then keep playing games after the excitement. It’s always fun.
Here’s to hoping we see something on either Avowed or Fable. My bet is on Avowed. That’s a quality, well run studio. I’d imagine by now they have at least an intro to gameplay to show, even if it’s still a ways away.
As long as I can still play Middle Earth games on my Xbox in the future I’m good. Can’t afford two systems so I don’t want these to go exclusive to other brands (especially not Apple or another similar company).
@creek_king that’s a really interesting thought about Netflix. Sadly if that happens I’ll probably never play another Ubisoft game again. Netflix is the worst of the streaming services a far as offerings. And as much as I enjoy a few Ubisoft games. I don’t enjoy any enough to want to subscribe to Netflix.
SoD2 is one of my favorite games of recent years. I’m still really looking forward to this one. But I’m disappointed it’s so many years away.
So what about that Phil Spencer quote recently where he said he’s really excited about SoD3? I know it’s possible for him to lie. But why deliberately choose that one to talk about in an excited way if it’s really suffering this bad? He could have chosen Starfield for instance.
I’ll admit if I wasn’t preoccupied with other things in life I would have gotten bored of Infinite a while ago. As it is I’m still loving it, and have slowly progressed to level 54 casually playing a bit every few days.
Now I really hope the new story content is good. And even if it within the Halo “Infinite” umbrella, they better make a proper Halo 7 and not just give us five hour mini campaigns. If they do that I’ll be satisfied.
It looks really good! But is there a “run” button? Man the character looks slow. (Didn’t watch the whole thing but the first several minutes it’s like he’s crawling). That would annoy me. I can physically move faster than that in real life and I’m getting older. A kid shouldn’t be that hobbled.
Like everyone else here I’m hoping this is true and looking forward to it! E3 was always my summer party event with friends. It wasn’t even always about being the best show with the best reveals but all of us gaming together in between shows designed to build anticipation for the future. Some of the best times for me and I would like the celebrations to continue. Bring on E3!
I just want a summer e3 style event. I like to have a party then with my gaming friends. It’s gamers Christmas. Just fun. That’s why I don’t want to transition to multiple small events. I like one big event.
Granted. That’s personal preference talking… not any form of objective rationality.
@IronMan30 ah gotcha. I feel ya man! I have enough to distract me so I’m okay but I am anxious to play some of these games we’ve been teased about for the last few years.
@IronMan30 I think the bigger point here is the studios do everything. The corporate heads at Sony don’t make the games. Naughty Dog, Insomniac, and others do. Same here. Microsoft didn’t make the games. Playground, double fine, arcane and asobo did. But here’s the point. Moving forward, those studios are owned my MS and will make exclusives. So what this means is some of the best studios are now published by MS, so they will get as much credit moving forward as Sony does for Naughty Dog and Insomniac.
@RedShirtRod id definitely be down for an in person event at the Microsoft theater. That’s live-streamed. Even as an online watcher, I miss the crowds (however fake they were). Watching the pre-filmed videos without a crowd is like watching sports without a crowd. Fine. But not as fun.
Oddly enough. I’ve gotten back into halo mp after not touching anything but the campaign from release until mid February. It’s been a blast! I don’t mind the progression system. Though I’ve never played another MP game extensively (never gotten into COD, Overwatch, Fortnite, Apex, etc. ) so I don’t know what to compare it to. I will say I hate tactical slayer. Either some of those people are too good or they literally have cheats. I’ll have someone smoke me from across the map when coming out of a room where they had absolutely had no clue I was there. Or sometimes I’ll spawn get killed from across the map.
Other than that I’m loving it. But I get what people are saying about how it’s going to need new content soon.
Tragic story. My heart goes out to all the people in Ukraine and surrounding areas experiencing this. I saw a video a mom took where a jet flew by and launched a missile at a building near her house and you could just hear her young child crying. It’s heartbreaking. I was literally in tears.
I think people read into this too much. I don’t think they are “spreading themselves thin” so much as using their main, big team to focus on their next big project (probably Gears 6) and have maybe some smaller teams working on smaller projects, or are simply in pre-production with their writing and creative teams on future projects. I don’t think this is a “we are working on multiple projects that are at the same stage and splitting our teams between them” kinda thing.
@K1LLEGAL yes! I’ve wanted American Wasteland on BC so bad. I’m glad for all the games they did make BC but that’s one I really wanted them to do before they stopped.
Here’s to hoping there can be remaster packages of classic Tonh Hawk games or something like that when MS gets these studios back to exploring properties.
I doubt MS would even be allowed to. I wouldn’t say they’d be close to a monopoly. But it seems the regulatory folks are looking closer at Activision than they did Bethesda (even if the purchase is still expected to go through). There’s gotta be a point where if they bought too much too quickly there’s a regulatory reaction. Also, I wonder if after spending 70 billion Phil is allowed to use THIS much money.
@meyerparkX Ninja Gaiden would be the only reason to get these guys. But the way they treated MS in the last deal, using their money to make a PS exclusive, is too much.
@awp69 I have it a B but I should have given it an A after looking more at that list. From what I’m seeing other people say they’re not happy with some that left. But honestly if you don’t play the game in the first year it’s up, then it’s kinda on you. That right there you put is a good list.
@ParsnipHero I’m kinda in that. I don’t have the desync issues you’re having (gameplay is great for me) but I played a ton during the cyber event and don’t really care about the Samurai event.
Also I LOVED attrition and it’s already gone. I hate Fiesta because if you get terrible weapons you’re done because the other guys probably have rockets, swords or rams. Since Fiesta is the only event mode it turned me off.
I’m one of the few people who is a massive Halo fan, but then when Destiny came out (the first one) it seemed to have such a hollow story that I was disappointed and haven’t played more than a few minutes of any Destiny game. So as a mainly Xbox guy the initial purchase didn’t make me concerned (I know it’s still multiplat but initially we were all curious).
However, I definitely see this purchase as a great opportunity for Destiny to build its universe in movies with Sony. Maybe I’ll give the story a chance again.
@101Force the only one that would make me nervous would be WB (if it goes anywhere other than Xbox). I don’t play many Square Enix games and I imagine EA would keep their sports titles multiplat like bungie intends to.
I think the main reason MS probably isn’t as involved (outside of maybe a small individual studio purchase) is because they just spent a ton on AB. I mean I know they have plenty more, but the CEO has gotta pull back Phil at some point right?

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Xbox Games Showcase 2022?
B. The “next 12 months” set expectations. And Starfield and Redfall showed well. I’m interested in Pentiment. And a few others.
