Looked Immense!!! Time to refine the space combat but being able to explore Planets and more than just a few in that detail - Just WOW. Seems like everything you could want from a futuristic Sci-Fi RPG...
I was nerding out watching it. Don’t get that often with games these days. Can’t wait, looks phenomenal.
@A01 sounds like it will be alot of empty space & reused assets but have to wait & see
Starfield might be all you need 2023! Looks great and combines all the things I love. It will be amazing 100% sure!
Looks wayyy better in the trailer @4K
Looks great but it will take some time before I'm used to that UI.
@A01 maybe they generated the planets and then spent seven years handcrafting over the base layout?
Either way, I’m super pumped!
So basically no man's sky with a story......
Still looks good so far but let's just hope it's bug free
Looks like what I expected from a Bethesda game. Potential bug filled (too many gameplay cuts) super massive game with a generic shooty shooty combat. The graphics don't look next-gen or compete with games that already released, but it really looked crisp at times. Will probably get it if it's not filled with bugs. Story, dialogue options, RPG elements seems like they will be great as usual. Too bad you can't fly the ship in the map.
@A01 games like Skyrim have always had dynamically generated worlds that then have humans add static content to to create the more memorable landmarks and such. It’s part of what Bethesda has always been known for.
Liked what I saw but sadly only ship building was highlighted so far. I’m hoping we get to craft out own space stations and land bases.
Looks great BUT why does the XP notification have to be in the centre of the crosshairs?
Fallout : No Man's Sky
That's what I thought of it, tbh.
If this game had been too much of a departure from Bethesda RPGs, I'd probably not be as interested.
If I was bored of a studios's output, I'd be buying from another studio.
@chicken_chaser & a little bit of destiny
Looks like my dream game. A combination of Fallout, Mass Effect and Elite Dangerous.
It's looks okay
I think it looks really epic, and totally saved the showcase for me.
The scope of this game is massive, I was impressed!
I'm liking the look of this. Really hoping that our created characters are voiced, I'm not a fan of silent protagonists. I'll probably spend most of the game building ships though.
@Tharsman they showed base building in the preview.
Looks amazing, especially for a day one game pass drop!
So, No Mans Sky x Mass Effect Andromeda? AI needs to be polished, so I'm glad they gave it more time.
@MoistEmphasis3 I must have missed it.
I was surprised how good the faces looked
It looks great can you imagine visiting all 1000 planets. Really happy with what was shown. I liked that base layout building editor. the way you build stuff in fallout is a hassle.
I was most impressed me with Starfield was that the gunplay seemed to be tighter than Fallout. More like Doom/Wolfenstein.
Gunplay in Fallout always seemed to be more...I dunno...imprecise...I guess? Anyways, looking forward to seeing more about the game.
@chicken_chaser I thought it looked like No Man's Skyrim
They totally picked the wrong planet and style to showcase this game. They took a "dead" planet (very boring colors) and showed how to shoot a gun. I wanted to see more narrative, more factions, societies.
Kind of a bummer for me. Atleast those facial animations looked good.
@Royalblues crazy right. It looks like it’s about 20fps and people are still going crazy for it. It’s better looking visual than I thought… means nothing if it feels like crap to play. I hope they sort out the frame rate before release…no way this is coming out first part of next year
It looks good, Didn't blow be away or anything..
Definitely hope this isn’t no man’s sky with a prettier texture pack. I have a lot of faith in Bethesda though and I doubt that will be the case.
Is this a online game?
Having a hard time seeing this as different from No Man’s Sky.
@A01 oddly, if a ton of the planets were just empty rocks with a few resources on them...that would be WAY more realistic lol
I didn't hear anything about co-op play. Does anyone know anything about that? Thanks in advance.
@RevGaming
I would think that the reason the graphics aren't as detailed is the sheer size the game could be. If all the assets were detailed at 4K it could be a multi-terrabyte game. lol. I would expect this game to be 100% online. Only because if they have any true level of uniqueness in the planets they will be loading the data for them as you fly to them and served up from the cloud.
As for the generic shooty-shooty gameplay, they did say it was early in the game with the clips so, I wouldn't expect the character to have a lot of skills or abilities yet.
Finally on flying around. That would just make the game too easy. You could go up, and use your weapons to soften an area up, and then land and dance thru the mission. I did this a lot in Halo Infinite. It was workable, but also, made the game way too easy. Once I unlocked the Wasp, I pretty much walked thru the rest of the game.
I think they have made design choices here for reasons of necessity and practicality. Next gen consoles are powerful, but not powerful enough yet! Lots to unpack here though. I am thinking that this is going to be pretty great based on what I saw in the gameplay. Tons of potential, let's wait and see if they unlock that potential. I could see a ton of potential for ongoing expansions for this game's worlds.
@NeoRatt
Idk about that. Horizon 2 and Red Dead 2 had no problem with graphics. Plus you can fly in Horizon 2... and on ps4.
Always online? ew. Skipping then.
Are the late game abilities just stats boosts like with skyrim and fallout 4? I don't think the gameplay is going to be very action ish. I don't like like old school rpgs because of this. I like the action ones a lot better. Like Wo Long or Elden Ring.
Yeah I guess that could make it easier. Flying in games is hard to pull off. Horizon 2 only did it at the end of the game (bummer).
Potential no longer works for me. I'm seriously disappointed with this showcase and I thought I was going to look at least 5 more AAA xbox games studios. Hellblade 2, Avowed, Everwild (if you can call it AAA), iD's next game, Indiana Jones, Compulsion Game, State of Decay, Contraband etc.
These studios might make one AAA game per gen and it might be a next gen worthy game if lucky. These studios are being mismanaged. The starfield thing is just typical Todd Howard management. I never mentioned the AI, but it didn't look that good either. I'm going to take a break from looking at xbox news and honestly just wait for their next showcase. If that one disappoints (and god forbid Starfield isn't a buggy mess), then I have no faith in xbox. At all. Too bad for all the studios they bought.
@RevGaming
I don't think there is a problem with flying. It would just tip the scale for the player and make the game too easy to me in my opinion. Like I said, as soon as I got the Wasp in Halo Infinite the game became funner on collecting, but made the missions way too easy.
The game is an RPG not an Action-Adventure. If you wanted action-adventure you were expecting something that would not happen. Bethesda does not make action-adventures. they make RPGs. You may not like games that are RPGs but there are a lot of gamers that do.
I don't know what was so disappointing about the showcase. I went in thinking there would only be one or two games I would have the slightest interest in playing. After seeing the showcase I would like to at least try about 10-15 of the games. There was a nice mix of games from many genres. I don't think there will be a bunch of 90+ Metacritic games there, but I do see a lot with potential to be 80-90 on Metacritic.
I completely disagree that the studios are being mismanaged. There are a lot of these studios that just finished their previous commitments and now they are truly making MS funded and scoped games. I think MS wants each of these studios creating AAA games. And that takes time. Some of the studios weren't AAA studios when MS bought them so had to size up, others were making games under previous commitments, and then some were just starting their next projects. And then of course COVID sent most games into delay state.
I am not saying I wouldn't like to have seen more, I just understand the realities and the reality is that there are not a lot of nextgen games coming out anytime soon to change or raise the bar. No matter what device you look at.
@NeoRatt
Yeah, I agree.
I get it, but for me it seems RPG means a game with bad gameplay. C2077, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Outerworld all had very bad gameplay imo. Witcher 3 was fine with the dodges, but Geralt's abilities could've been better. Mass Effect had a generic gameplay loop too. Haven't played 2 and 3 (will soon). I like JRPGs. For some reason those have superb combat mechanics.
Yeah. I was expecting for half of the xbox studios to show something. It was better than Summer Game Fest tho. That was like a 3 or 4. I liked Plague Tale 2 but we already saw that. Wo Long is interesting. I hope it's more like Nioh or Ninja Gaiden than Dynasty Warrior. Diablo 4 looked good, but I already seen enough of it. Redfall looked ok and Starfield looked good but not great. Might walk with 2 or 3 of those if they end up being good, but that's it.
Starfield doesn't even look like a top of the class last gen game either. Well the other device has 3 next-gen only games and one next gen only remake upcoming, not to mention that horizon and gow are crossgen and look better than SF, on top of re4 remake, ff16, suicide squad, forspoken looking more dynamic and better. I mention those third party games because this isn't even a console vs console thing. They can't even keep up with big third party games neither.
I've been saying, giving away the games for basically free, makes xbox not invest so much into their games and I'm seeing it right now, unless it's car sim, which I don't think you need a big budget for those games. Not to mention the mismanagement of the studios. Going to 5 years since you bought some of these and still nothing to show for? I think that studio count is just a bluff at this point. I also hate the fact that the show is mostly a gamepass show. That makes me less exciting because I know the games that will be there will be low budget ones. It had something for everyone, but a jack of all trades when there are other studios (including third party) that are masters in those genres, it makes you look like you came off short. I am starting to feel like I'm expecting EA to come up with something good. They barely do and I feel like I should stop expecting it.
@A01 i was thinking the same thing, but i also feel like its a clone of no mans sky with hopefully a cohesive storyline i just totally got a no mans sky vibe from the gameplay footage...
Normally I’d wait for reviews, especially after the bad taste left by the launch of fallout 76.
But Game Pass! Totally gonna play it day one!
