Things are finally starting to ramp up in relation to Halo Infinite Season 2, after a quiet few months. Developer 343 is "very excited" to showcase season 2 content, however, Halo vet and Head of Creative Joseph Staten has discussed why the team isn't always as transparent as fans might expect.
In a developer interview with The Washington Post, Staten discussed 343's communication levels and why sometimes, they just have to stay quiet. Here's what he had to say:
"It's challenging to always be constantly open and transparent with fans, because, we don't want to expose them to the uncertainty and sometimes that churn that happens on any game development process.
The decision we're making though, and I believe this is the right one even though it's hard some days, is to make sure that when we talk to our fans, that they can rely on what we say. Fans are really soon going to be exposed to some really cool stuff that we've got going on for season 2."
Honestly, we love this kind of open and honest response. It'd be great to have already seen more on Season 2 of Halo Infinite, but if 343 wants a little more time to be certain on what to reveal, that's fine by us!
Halo Infinite Season 2 is set to launch sometime in May, and it's looking the upcoming season's big reveal is right around the corner.
What do you make of Staten's comments? Agree with 343's decision? Let us know below.

I agree with that you should only share what you can rely on delivering, but haven't they previously said that campaign co-op and forge were originally going to release in season 2? With output the community making maps with forge I cannot bring myself to reinstall it since we're only getting 2 new maps in season 2
@SolarSailor Yeah, I think that's what he's alluding to as well. They spoke about timings for co-op/forge too early, and they don't want to do that again, hence we've not heard much about S2 yet.
This reminds me of the statement about not being able to add Slayer or change Playlist because of the limited UI. Saying that the foundation of the live service Halo game with a new engine built just for it and we will apparently be playing for the next 10 years... isn't as functional or seamless to update as Halo 3. That went over well
Will they have fans by the time they announce what’s on the docket for season 2?
@SolarSailor Forge has always been Season 3 which'll be around August if Season 2 isn't another extended length season.
Plans, situations, circumstances etc change and unfortunately, some people seem to hold on to every single statement as if it is a legal and binding contract.
This makes it very difficult for Devs to be 'open' and 'honest' because when things do 'change' for whatever reason, those people then get angry, aggressive etc.
That then makes devs not want to talk about 'future' plans, at least until they are as sure as they can be that they can deliver exactly what they say.
I know I get 'disappointed' by 'delays' but I'd rather they made sure things were ready, not rushed and pushed through. I'd rather them be more 'pessimistic' than 'optimistic' but I can understand why they are optimistic about something they are working hard on.
I'd rather not 'know' about what's being developed, when they expect to release (if its more than 3-6 months off) etc but that's unrealistic for 'every' game as we know some 'trailers' are really meant to attract developers to work on that project, not meant for gamers to be 'hyped', excited or eagerly awaiting its 'release' - hanging on to every word as if its a legally binding contract. You said it was 'coming' in 2021, its now 2022 and you 'lied', you misled, you broke promises and trust etc on top of accusations of being 'incompetent' and subjected to far more abusive language.
In my opinion, I treat 'devs' comments as 'optimistic' as I expect they are having already put a LOT of time, effort and heart into the project. I maybe a 'bit' disappointed when things don't exactly align with their optimism but ultimately, I'd rather they took extra time to make sure its ready for the gamers and kept me in the dark until they are 'confident' that what they 'share' will be delivered.
I know it maybe 'disappointing' that co-op or forge are still not in the game but I'm sure you'd rather have a 'robust' and ready for release version rather than a broken, buggy, poor performing rushed option just to 'tick' off that box -it has co-op, it has 'forge' but basically unusable until many months later when its patched - better to give it when 'ready'.
It isn't about their lack of communication over season 2.
It is about their lack of communication over literally everything since release.
Funny really isn’t it… the other week we have stories praising Xbox for their transparency and openness. Now we have stories on how transparency and openness is challenging
I was personally fine with the communication up until now. They said Season 2 is coming in May a while ago so I just said cool see ya in May. That's all I needed to know but regardless looking forward to the new stuff!
You mean developers aren't making blind promises, and are waiting to tell us until they know for sure? Man, maybe soon they'll delay games instead of pushing unfinished product. XD
I’ll admit if I wasn’t preoccupied with other things in life I would have gotten bored of Infinite a while ago. As it is I’m still loving it, and have slowly progressed to level 54 casually playing a bit every few days.
Now I really hope the new story content is good. And even if it within the Halo “Infinite” umbrella, they better make a proper Halo 7 and not just give us five hour mini campaigns. If they do that I’ll be satisfied.
@BAMozzy they haven't been open or honest at all, saying you'll be more transparent but then saying nothing kinda makes you look bad.
And you're right, they should make sure it works before release, too bad they didn't do that with the actual game, we wouldn't be here right now.
People can be upset with 343, they (tbf, MS) released a game that could barely function, when it did it was buggy, if it wasn't it was laced with cheaters, if it wasn't it was dead because you can only play slayer or oddball on the same map so many times before the lack of any content makes you play something else. That's totally fair.
That all said, I've never talked ill of 343, covid times, but I also say they should have delayed it vs pushing Craig out like they did.
Yes, it sure is challenging to do the basic stuff fans have come to expect from a flagship franchise over the years...when you're so occupied with monetizing it after the point-of-sale via wannabe Fortnite skins. Don't worry, 343; your priorities have been completely transparent since Halo Infinite launched. It must also be tough not to be able to hide behind COVID anymore; players can see what a dumpster fire this is.
A lot of indie and small devs manage to be transparent and deliver on their promises. Even with all the issues and uncertainty that comes with being that kind of dev.
Imagine then, that you are the dev behind a flagship series, for a platform holder, for one of the biggest companies on the planet, that specialises in software, and your only job is to make that one series of games, and you still don't have a clue what you're doing?
Yeah, I could see why that's hard to tell that to your customers or parent company's shareholders.
How many times is 343 going to get a pass?
I dunno, sounds like they admitted to fuc**** up.
Ever since Halo 4 they been "over promising" and "under delivering" for quite a while.
