Earlier this week, we were treated to a short snippet of Sonic Frontiers gameplay, but now we've got seven full minutes of the game courtesy of IGN, giving us a proper look at what we can expect when it his Xbox this year.
As you can see, Sonic Frontiers features a visually impressive open world with masses of room for exploration and utilising speed. Combat isn't the focus in this video, but hopefully we'll see more of that in the weeks to come.
IGN will be providing Sonic Frontiers content all month, and hopefully that means we'll get a release date at some point. All we know at the moment is that it's coming to Xbox One, Series X and Series S in late 2022.

It looks fun, definitely excited for this.
Looks rough and that pop in is awful, hopefully it's gets some decent polish before launch
I hate to criticize games still in active development; but that asset pop-in is pretty distracting.
For a character designed around speed; I hope that gets optimized.
Otherwise, this game is definitely on my radar.
Definitely on my radar now. I like 3d exploring especially in platform worlds.
Obviously needs some optimising and if done correctly should be great on the series x.
At least we don’t have to whistle for a horse or shout for a car to travel round the open world fast. 😆
Sort of reminds me of Sonic Adventure, but for some reason they have it set in the world from Death Stranding. The first stranding type Sonic game?
looks like it needs something more... like enemies or something. Also looks like the person playing had played that part ofthe game a bunch because they were turning n jumping on to stuff that ou could brely see, but they were doing it like it was obvious.
Hopefully the gamr builds up to the point where thing are intuitive.
As nice as it looks, this really did less to sell me on the game than the short teaser a few days ago. I really really wanted to be psyched on this too, I grew up with a Sega Genesis.
So I hope their is more depth to this game than just do these small puzzles and climbing towers... Sonic I guess has never really been much more than that... Lookin forward to seeing what happens with this game
@JayJ I agree the world looks kinda depressing. I was hoping for this type of exploration but with more of vibrant color scheme. To me, Sonic works best as a “Saturday morning cartoon” kinda experience. I was hoping the tone of the world would be more like that than what I’m seeing here.
That being said, it looks like a blast exploration-wise. Just missing any characters or npcs. Hopefully they get added to fill up the world! And I hope a solid, fun narrative is written in.
I hope we see more of this one soon. There’s aspects of this that look interesting, but there’s a lot of it that reminds me of Bowser’s Fury meets Death Stranding at Ratchet and Clank’s bar, but the bar is pretty empty, if you know what I mean. This could be the Sonic game that revolutionizes Sonic, or it could be another 3D Sonic game. I mean, the movies and Mania both show that Sonic can do well!
I hope they can release something great.
This looks, I don't know, like a technical demo.
The background landscape doesn't match the scenario/gameplay.
Sonic found his way into PSO2 New Genesis!
I'm excited, but I do think it needs more of a Sonic flair to it. Without Sonic and the rings, it could pass off as PSO2:NGS in my opinion.
I’ll need to see more as the game is closer to completion. I love Sonic, but not exactly loving what I’m seeing here.
Sonic is such a fascinating franchise. Has any other property been so mired in mediocrity for decades and still garner so much excitement?! This doesn't look terrible but honestly looks like a Sonic/random open world game mod on PC.
Sonic Fantasy XV! I'm loving the realistic landscape with surreal aerial platforming. And I hope that's the actual music from the game, because it's gorgeous. I am ready for this Sonic experience.
'Interesting' would be the most positive thing I can write about this.
It looks like a fan made tech demo rather than a proper Sonic game. It's so empty, so devoid of typical Sonic colors and elements, all so replacable.
I'll just add that at this point, being a Sonic fan is like being a Knicks fan. You know you're going to get your heart broken, but you still show up every single time, and you still allow yourself to get your hopes up. I'm OK with that.
This is clearly the opening segment of the game when you have just dropped into the world and have to get to grips with the controls etc
It looks awesome and I can't wait to play it day one for sure!
The camera and exploration are better than I expected considering that this is a Sonic Team game without some of the Sonic Team classic staff and considering the fact that Sonic Forces is awful. People say that this is Breath of the Wild but Breath of the Wild is Assassin's Creed meets Monster Hunter. It looks more Final Fantasy XV to me. The Sonic elements need to be included and I mean enemies, robots, innocent animals/victims and actual levels. I think that this is the hub and the Sonic elements are inside short levels somewhere. Otherwise, the game wouldn't be complete.
