I mean… it was good but i’m still sitting here waiting for Banjo/Goldeneye/FFVIIR…
Okay it was next 12 months only so no Banjo but still.
Starfield looks amazing of course.
I was disappointed. No Goldeneye and no Banjo Kazooie.
B. Lots of stuff I wasn’t interested in but a handful look great. Starfield looks phenomenal. Big improvement over other Xbox showcases, much more gameplay.
I'd honestly give it a D. It was overall rather disappointing. There were some good titles here and there, and my highlights were definitely Persona coming to Xbox and Starfield gameplay. But other than that, there was just too much padding. It should've been an hour at most.
Starfield looks incredible!!
I want excited for starfield , now I've seen the game play i am roll on next year
It's good that they showed lot's of games, I can't think of many I'm really interested in though, perhaps Forza. Starfield looks like a cross between Fallout and No Man's Sky which could be very good
Silksong and Persona on gamepass was the highlight. Phil and co still sleeping at the wheel on Banjo though.
I don't have many words tbh. None of this is decent enough for the next year.
Overall, a very disappointing show, but Redfall and Starfield saved it for me. I graded it a B for those two alone. Starfield looks very epic, and Redfall looks really fun, and I like the vibe. I was hoping for some Halo Infinite story DLC and a Gears collection or 6 update, but once they said it was only stuff coming out in the next 12 months, my expectations immediately shifted. Also, Kojima is exciting.
Eh, it was decent. It felt way longer than it needed to be. Forza and Starfield looked great, though.
It’s a B for me. Forza Motorsport looked great. Starfield looked great. And Persona on Xbox. Also great
For me it gets an C overall, a B for third party content which 90% of games shown are also coming to playstation in which that's where il play them, and a C for xbox's exclusives that were shown, not because they were poor but because there's still not much for me coming this year, I bought my series s mainly to play xbox's full exclusives whilst everything else on playstation (even timed), but xbox haven't given me a reason to keep my subscription going this year, but on a high note next year I will definitely be re-subscribing as theres quite a few games I want to play from xbox especially starfield and Redfall
Also I gave a lower score because of the amount of indies and online games shown im not interested in such as Grounded, Sea of thieves, Ark 2, elder scrolls online, that Chinese battle royale no one's ever heard of and fallout 76, and then there were sections for pc and mobile only games, and finally that game with the real character portraits just looked so weird and cheap looking. And also dissapointed we didn't see more of that kojima game and no state of decay 3
The highlights for me though were Flintlock which looks absolutely amazing, starfield which is along with BoTW 2 as my top 2 most anticipated games for 2023, Redfall which looks fun and hopefully feels different from the other failed left for dead attempts we've had over the last 18 months, glad to see confirmation that overwatch 2 is coming to playstation as my overwatch 1 unlocks are safe to use, Diablo 4 which I can't wait to play and that gameplay has me so excited I might just boot up number 3 again for old times sake and hopefully it's cross play with playstation and xbox. And even though I've already played all of the persona games already I'm happy more people get to play them but seriously dissapointed they just decided to straight up port persona 3 fes and 4 golden, thought they would of atleast remastered them.
One final thing, after watching both the state of play and this show its quite clear now that both Sony and Microsoft are chasing different crowds, playstation are single player focused whilst xbox is fully going all out for multiplayer games which is fine but once you have too many multiplayer games to choose from every day you wont be able to immerse yourself into any properly and definitely won't have the time to invest into all the ones youre interest in.
Really good show. A huge variety of games coming to game pass. I like the focus just need to honor it. I like they still showed off updates to games like sea of thieves and elder scrolls and fall out. These games have huge active communities. Glad to be on Xbox.
I thought it was really good. Starfield looks better than expected, looking forward to Forza Motorsport but the one that I'm looking forward to the most has to be that game from the creators of Rick and Morty. 😂
The bad:
No Goldeneye, Gears collection etc
Forza Motorsport not coming until 2023
The good:
Lots of other great stuff coming out... even in 2022 😉
A good mix of games coming to gamepass... a bit of something for everyone.
Other:
Starfield... hmmm, really don't know, will have to wait and see.
Very bad showcase.
Redfall (please don't be as boring as b4b), Wo Long were the things that intrigued me.
Diablo 4, Hollow Knight 2 and Plague Tale 2 looked great. Probably getting them.
Starfield doesn't look next gen, too many cuts (guessing it has a LOT of bugs), with very generic combat gameplay, but the game looks massive with a lot of options tho. Reminds me of c2077.
The rest is meh.
Idk what in the world are Xbox game studios doing? Are they sleeping or something? We only saw games that were supposed to come out this year. Forza motorsport is redundant with horizon looking way more fun to play.
The potential that the showcase had, with this conclusion, it's a complete and total letdown.
I give it a D.
D. Would've been lower if not for the Japanese section at the end. Team Ninja, Atlus and Kojima saved things a little bit.
It was ok, I expected way more. There was WAAAAY to much indie titles and there was so much stuff missing. No Halo, gears, avowed, everwild and all the other announced games, I'm still hyped for Persona, redfall, FH dlc, FM8. C
For me there wasn't much. Not sure how I feel about Starfield, need to see more. Redfall didn't look as good as I'd hope. I just bought persona 5 Royal on sale (thankfully it was just £15) but having those 3 games finally on Xbox is awesome for those who haven't played them, kojimas new game won't interest me until I see something even though I'm a fan.
Silksong was the only thing that got me really excited. Really didn't expect it to be rerevealed at a Xbox conference of all places, and on game pass! Plaques Tale also looked good but I don't think there was a reveal date. I'll probably check out obsidian new game more because it's them than what they've show.
Honestly Forza Motorsport was the best thing for me. Looks incredible and truly next gen (unlike GT7 which I was disappointed with).
Seen some very surprising and nice looking games!
Sad to see that Diablo IV won’t be on Game Pass, however, and the lack of Halo Infinite coop gameplay isn’t promising.
C. Nothing overall too mind blowing, both Forza segments were by far the highlights for me. Starfield looks ok but not as revolutionary as I was expecting.
Def, the best showcase form this year (albeit a low bar) but a shocking lack of suprises
I don’t even have an Xbox as I’m mainly a PS gamer, but I have to give it up to MS, they really showed some cool stuff in that presentation.
I’m happy for Xbox and Xbox gamers 👍
I´m happy. A nice and diverse selection of games from more quirky games to heavy hitters. And almost ALL of this included in Game Pass, what is not to like?
If you think this is mediocre or lackluster, what in the world did you expect?
I'm honestly very very disappointed. That was awful. We still didn't see any updates from the many Xbox Game Studio games in development. There's hardly anything coming this year. Yes Forza looks good, but Starfield looked very under whelming. Hardly any big 3rd Party games. Honestly that was a very poor show.
If the whole Goldeneye, Gears Collection, maybe something Activision hadn’t been hyped as much, I would have been more pleased…the hype let me down waiting for these.
B for me as well. Considering it was only the next 12 months and they showed mostly gameplay with a few announcements like kojima and persona. Was hoping for something from inxile like fallout 1/2 remake but i guess that wont till later.
Would give it an A, not perfect (that would be an S in the poll) but lots of exclusive games, even this year with full Grounded release, some new and unique looking smaller scale tiles (As Dusk Falls looks fab).
Forza looks phenomenal, Starfield genuinely blew me away, Redfall looks a lot of fun.
And that's without what is going to be the defacto game of the year Warhammer 40K Darktide not making an appearance.
Starfield really aint doing much for me, looks like just another no mans sky.
Silksong showing up was a nice surprise and forza looks good as expected, but the rest was just a whole lotta nothing.
its a D at best for me tbh
Redfall didn't look like something I'd like but Starfield looks good, probably check out the Rick and Morty game as free.
@BRT15 Rick & Mortys creators game looked so cool!
I'd give it a C. It was a really lackluster first half, but they had some good games to close it out. My highlights were Silksong, Persona, and Starfield.
Did the people above watch a different show than I did or what? This show had about 2 times as many interesting games than the state of play and game fest combined. For me it was a solid a
I ranked it "D". The next 12 months is looking rather grim and the only exciting announcements in that showcase were:
The upside though is the absence of Goldeneye means there may actually be a Nintendo Direct in the next few days.
Very Strong - especially as a Game Pass Subscriber. So many games coming in the next year and 2023 looks exceptionally strong and that's unusual for the start of a year...
A bit disappointed this Holiday season looks a bit quiet but there is still games on Game Pass I want to play....
Starfield and Forza certainly stood out to me. Redfall looks interesting too but I thought Kojima would have had 'something' more than an announcement to share. Quite a few interesting titles to try too...
Personal interests in no particular order.
Starfield
Redfall
Forza motor sport.
Now when actually get these games and playing them on series x, still a bit up in the air.
The rest was nothing really but might suit some.
As for 2022 it gonna be a long year to get to 2023
And with no definite release dates on the three games above for 2023.
I give it a “C” for a bit of effort.
B for me. Had FFVII and/or Indiana Jones been there, I would give it an A+
Let's just say this year is one of the worse years ever for xbox in terms of first party, but next year looks way better, that's why the show had so much multi platform filler which isn't bad as it was a show that could be enjoyed by both playstation and xbox gamers
Wow one of the weakest shows I’ve seen Xbox do in years. There’s no getting around it. It’s all very well saying ‘we’re being brave and showing you games that are coming in the next 12 months’…when two of your main ones previously had 2022 dates.
Seriously…MS have nothing for the next 12 months other than grounded which has been early access for years and something that looks like an indie game??? Wow
Was very surprising/disappointmenting seeing Forza isn’t even hitting this year… a full year without an Xbox first party game? For the second year of a new console??? Crazy bad management there. No getting away from it.
Thats the bad.
The good… Diablo looked awesome with its gameplay. Open world Diablo I’m well up for long as it’s still couch co op.
Kojima officially announcing he has a game coming…great. No gameplay though.
Persona finally coming to Xbox…fine. Nothing new but finally coming. And gamepass - great.
The ugly…
Redfall… let’s be honest, it looked like a plainer version of back 4 blood. Visually very disappointing. Frankly I was bored…went on way too long and showed nothing inspiring.
Starfall… looked visually great with its world and enemies. Animation big step up from fallout 4. But geeez…it was playing at what looked like 20fps. Why would they show it like that? And the faces look still cartoony and even more out of place now against the realistic lighting and world setting. There seems to be a real clash there. Maybe need to watch again.
Over all the show was simply boring. So much hype around it it didn’t even come close to living ip to it. Half the ‘games’ shown seemed to be expansion packs for existing games. Complete misfire Microsoft.
Some awesome stuff in there - it's a shame that most of it is 2023 and we've not seen anything big coming for 2022 that we didn't already know about. Still, Starfield looks really good. Can someone explain to me the "over 1000 planets"? Is this game procedurally generated?
Oh and I've never played a Diablo game before, but I'll be playing 4 - it looks absolutely minted.
the start and end was fantastic....buy my God there were a lot of nothing burgers in between. solid 7 out of 10.....but man
Can't deny the great value of Game Pass, but that aside wasn't a whole lot to excite me. Starfield looked a bit more like No Man's Skyrim than I was expecting, but I am keen to give this a go. The Kojima project is clearly some way off, and the Motorsport title looked good (more my thing than Horizon). Does this mean no 1st party releases in 2022? Or am I missing some? All in all, a mixed bag for me.
I genuinely thought starfield looked really under whelming and that no mans sky does everything better and looks better too.
Other than that, it was ok. There are some fun titles on the way to keep us entertained even if its a thin line up till next year.
Scorn looked great.
Too many games. 4/10.
Beyond Starfield and maybe one or two others, every game felt derivative. The overwhelming majority of games anymore seem to have dark and violent motifs. We've seen the "girl gets pulled into some dark dimension" trope before. Ditto cartoony first-person shooters, side-scrolling Limbo rip-offs, battle royales, etc., etc..
Microsoft can hype the number of games they showed all they want, but way too many of them look, feel, or play alike (especially THEMATICALLY) to matter anymore. It's like the damning remark made by a Japanese developer at E3 2010 with regard to the glut of first-person shooters at the show: "You Americans must really enjoy war". E3's developer representation (especially foreign and smaller studios) imploded shortly afterward, and it began the decline that's culminated in the current situation. True creativity and originality look, feel, and play DIFFERENTLY; there's VARIETY that the hobby is sorely lacking anymore, at least certainly where the industry's focus with these showcases is concerned.
I guess if there's a silver lining between this and Sony's showcase, it's that my wallet won't be getting too much lighter in the coming year. Then again, I didn't invest in a Series X or PS5 to still be playing last-gen games, either.
C from me as no wow games, and the graphic afterwards for 2022 at least wasn't all that.
@BartoxTharglod hopefully God of war Ragnarok releases this year, plus there's forspoken to look forward to if it's been polished up since the last reveal, then there's hogwarts legacy and soul hackers 2, new digimon game which looks really good, callisto protocol in December, the Gollum game in September and as you said we have fire emblem warriors three hopes, splatoon 3, xenoblade chronicles 3 and new pokemon from nintendo. Still lots to play this year
@BartoxTharglod taste isn't the same as the quality of a show. The state of play had 0 games for me but I still ranked it as a good show, because it had value. This show also had a hugh value even it isn't your taste. The show was good, fast paced not to much talking in between and enough different content for everyone and the best thing a lot of gameplay
2023 forwards looks good, plenty coming in the pipeline. Problem is, 2022 is lacking, the good stuff seems to be a way off still.
Unfortunately it's taking Microsoft too long to fire on all cylinders this generation.
Overall, only a C from me.
@K1LLEGAL There is another Xbox show on Tuesday...you never know...
@AtlanteanMan Some of the most hyped up and highly rated games of the last decade (or longer) are just borrowed gameplay in a new skin.
@theduckofdeath I know but this was the big one.. you would think the exciting surprises would have been here. Let’s hope!
For me, i gave it a C grade. I was happy they focused on short-term releases and got more gameplay than we're used to
A common criticism of these Xbox shows is that they'll show a CGI trailer of a game that is years away (think ES6, Fable, Perfect Dark etc) so glad they went the other direction
However, i think it suffered a little because of this as there were no surprise 1st party announcements of big franchises. I was hoping to see at least one thing that would really surprise from something like Gears or a Rare IP being revived (Banjo ?) to perhaps an update on something like Hellblade, State of Decay etc
It's a double edged sword really but i thought the balance could have been better. If they'd not announced the whole "everything you see is coming in next 12 months" thing and added in a big announcement or an update on a big franchise, this would have been a better show imo
@BartoxTharglod good because from your other posts I can already see it's a you problem not that of the show. Have fun with not having fun with anything because nothing is going to be good enough for you..
I'm wondering where the new TimeSplitters game is; the dev team said it was several months away from being ready to show last year, but it's been several months now and not a peep from them. I figured if it was going to make an appearance it would have done so here or at Sony's showcase.
Meh there was nothing really for me except a plague tale but already knew about that one Forza Motorsport 8 absolutely puts gran turismo 7 to shame though
@Lavalera
I really don't see the twice as many interesting games. Starfield was the only game that could compete with ff16, sf6, callisto or re4. Everything else was smaller in size.
@Lavalera see that’s where I am at. There wasn't a lot for me but I thought it was pretty good pacing etc et .
@Sveakungen oh my gosh I forgot about that game. It looks hilarious.
BTW folks Pentiment is a first party game; I get it’s not for the bulk of people but it’s still Obsidian.
A big fail and L from me. Like maybe 3 to 5 games interested me. It’s one hell of a dry 12 months for Xbox coming. Starfield will be the savour for me and Forza.
It was like endless filler games being shown, all these AAA games studios under Microsoft’s umbrella and they have nothing to launch for 12 months.
Good show, some good announcements. Team ninja game was huge for me as big fan of their games. The Rick and morty type game looked good to
Not bad at all.
Must admit to being a bit disappointed not to see FFVII R but that could be announced at the FF anniversary presentation later on.
Have to remember that all these are out in the next 12 months so add these to various 3rd party games also releasing and there is plenty to keep me busy
@Lavalera I understand your point about "value", but if the industry's catering to "everyone else" and your own tastes are not being catered to any longer, what good is the hobby anymore? Your money is as good as anyone else's. Don't be afraid to rate a given show not based on how well you think it met other gamers' needs and wants, but how it met YOURS.
Me personally, I'd have to give this showcase a solid "D", and only because of Starfield. I won't be giving any of the other stuff a second look, so why score it higher? At the end of the day, it's about the utility I personally get from what is on offer.
@AtlanteanMan
Very well said.
So Stalker 2 isn’t out in the next 12 months either as they didn’t show anything to do with the game? Tons of games announced but not being launched in the next 12 months, so much for big games every 2 or 3 months.
@mousieone Pentiment looks good, it stood out to me between all the other stuff and Obsidian are usually quality.
@S1ayeR74 Don’t know if you know this but there’s a war in Ukraine, where the Stalker 2 dev was based. You can’t expect that anytime soon and that’s way out of MS’s control.
@RevGaming lol what? Calisto protocol isnt even from a aaa studio so calling that bigger than Diablo 4, overwatch 2 or forza motorsport to name a few lol. Sorry m8 but that's where you are wrong.
@Fenbops Of course I know that, but I also know it only delayed them by a month or two as they relocated, the game was already delayed before that happened. Microsoft is losing it here, one by one it’s big hitters are getting pushed back.
It’s very bad to claim you’ve got all these huge studios, but have hardly anything to show for it for yet another year.
I didn’t think it was a bad showing at all. I’m surprised by many negative reviews of the show. Overall, I would give it a B. I thought they showed a decent amount of games and what they showed looked good. Looking forward to the next one this Tuesday.
@MiGke the problem with people like that is that the gaming world is going somewhere they don't like and instead of moving over to another hobby where they can find more interesting stuff they just like to be negative in these kind of topics how much shows like this suck. If gaming isn't for you anymodw move on
@MiGke What has the war got to do with anything, or inflation? Nothing. Like ONE studio was affected, briefly, by the invasion. Your making excuses here.
Several huge games already announced, said to be in development for a while, and nothing to show and no release for a year.
I thought it was a good show. Plenty coming in the next 12 months even if some is of no interest - I’m not into online multiplayer games - but a good selection. ARA & Lightyear Frontier to satisfy the strategy/building itch, Flintlock, Wo Long & Redfall for some mindless violence and High on Life looks like fun for those who like their shooters less visceral. Diablo iv & Starfield. What’s not to like?
@MiGke I don't subscribe to GamePass and never will. I buy the games I'm interested in, period. The industry has more than enough means of gating and controlling access to content as it is without me throwing away what's left of my rights as a consumer. But to each their own.
Outside a few games it was a pretty dire showcase. Cut it down and it would have made a good Direct/State of Play, but the once a year Showcase? Nah, very disappointing.
@Lavalera
Callisto is in fact, an AAA game.
We already say Overwatch 2 (which is just Overwatch 1, basically lol) and Diablo 4 a couple of times. Forza is redundant with Horizon being the better game.
Dude, the fact is, a random state of play was better than Xbox's biggest showcase. State of play was way more exciting for me and I had no expectations for it.
If you like to give brownie points, good for you. State of play was way more exciting for me. I can't emotionally change that, and it had no first party stuff.
@MiGke
Didn't get your point.
@RevGaming only a Sony fan boy like you would think that state of play was better than this show. I love both my Xbox and ps5 equally and have no preference for brand but the Xbox show was clearly better. Sony fanboys like you who only come here to hate on Xbox like you and Otaku start to annoy me. So have fun on the block list
@MiGke Really? Who? Go on name them. Name 7 studios impacted by the invasion into Ukraine and ‘inflation’.
all of you guy that rated this show an A are being paid off by Xbox / Microsoft to give a fake rating
It's as Xbox has been for the last decade: nothing earthshattering but plenty to keep a variety of gamers happy.
@MiGke To clarify we are talking Microsoft’s studios here with its big titles. Not random studios not owned by Microsoft.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Lavalera Actually he’s right, I don’t even have a PS5 yet thought it’s VR show was better. Shorter and sweater. The only thing that saved Xbox show was Redfall to an extent, Forza and Starfield. Diablo sounds ruined with an emphasis on social Interaction and multiplayer, not much for solo players being offered.
@MiGke Yea you do because that was my original point you argued against, you are changing the goal posts to suite your argument otherwise. And your excuse for inflation is pathetic, I’ve been working longer you’ll ever know. I pay for my things thanks. You have no argument and your reply you mad shows that, you cannot name tenses 7 studios, face it.
Inflation would impact the entire industry, but it isn’t anymore then any other industry, you don’t understand what your saying I don’t think.
B for me. I had adjusted expectations when they said coming in the next 12 months. They'd have perhaps been better saying that a week in advance.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@MiGke Not for 3 months plus it isn’t… still waiting for those 7 studios.
@MiGke No release date has been announced for Stalker 2 on PlayStation, fact. If you know different, prove it, although you don’t seem very good at providing proof for your comments when asked. Microsoft may not own the studio, but currently the game is exclusive to Microsoft still.
@S1ayeR74
The studio is in Ukraine and has nothing to do with xbox. They just made a exclusive deal. Jesus man. The game might not even be that good anyways. No Stalker 2 wasn't the problem.
@RevGaming So? The game is still exclusive at present. And I doubt it’ll be rubbish.
@MiGke Stalker 2 is an exclusive at present, I asked you to prove otherwise and you can’t. Google it, it’s still exclusive currently.
As someone with a Series X that is on the out with Playstation because they’d rather chase AAA blockbuster crap than make interesting games anymore, the State of Play WAS better. this presentation had a new Silksong trailer and Persona as the big ones for me, and some interesting looking indies I need to try for myself to judge. State of Play had Street Fighter 6, Callisto Protocol and Resident Evil 4 remake.
Just how it worked out.
I am only here for the comments and to say that I enjoyed the show for what it was. About 1/3 of the games announced I like to play. I give it an A-
Aside from the shocking Persona announcement, I was pretty disappointed in most of what they showed off. Starfield... I dunno. I assume they'll patch up the performance, but nothing about it seemed particularly exciting. Silksong looks good, but not much else grabbed me. Definitely worse than Sony's recent SoP.
What I was happy about, however, was the fact that we saw so much gameplay this time around. Way better than the usual cinematic trailers.
B+
Lots of gameplay, lots of games coming in the next year and (for those who care) quite a lot of Consoles exclusives. A really wide variety of games too, and some nice surprises.
@MiGke Well considering I’ll be playing them on Xbox yes, I do know they’re multiplat. But the presentation they were in was the State of Play, and those games excited me more than what Xbox showed today…and most of what excited me in that is also multiplat.
@BartoxTharglod I rate them on the whole, multiplats included
I cannot wait to play the games that was featured on the showcase. But their presentation was lackluster and the pacing was all over the place.
I feel the same way I do with most presentations like this: people are disappointed because they wanted to see a certain thing even though it was never announced in advance. There were some good surprises, some games I had never heard of I want to play now, and some stuff that was just "meh." I thought it was a good showcase overall especially given everything had actual gameplay footage instead of just pre-rendered trailers.
@Kaloudz nope wrong attitude. Nothing NEEDS to be finished within a deadline. It's a nice to have but if you can delay something to avoid crunch i would rather wait than have employees worked to death just so I can play Star Field in 2023
C... cool stuff, but a pretty weak showing for 2022 still... and they really needed something strong for this year. I'm tired of 2023 getting to have all the fun 😂
Is that new elder Scrolls online expansion exclusive to Xbox ? If so I would expect the next destiny expansion to skip Xbox
50yo life long gamer here and I thought the show was great, lots of interesting games I'll be trying on gamepass, genuinely can't wait.
I'm genuinely surprised by the negativity here.
Yeah, some of the games being pushed to 2023 is disappointing, but... if you have gamepass, there's a good variety of games incoming... a bit of something for everyone.
If you have Xbox, but not gamepass.... then maybe a little short of expectations. But I'm guessing most of you xboxers have gpu... you'd be mad not to, right?
High On Life looked like a standout to me... Surprised more people aren't mentioning it.
Good pace, no talks in between, too much game pass fodder. Even Starfield didnt look good. I just want to know how much they paid Sega for Persona. $250 million?
@BartoxTharglod
Fair enough.
However, I think for most people gpu is a good value proposition.
It's lead me to playing a wider variety of games than I might otherwise have tried it I was having to gamble my money on them individually (a great example being Lake, which I probably wouldn't have bought, but enjoyed a lot on gpu... and has lead me to trying Life Is Strange).
I've never been good enough at gaming to really consider myself a master of any particular game 😆 as long as I'm having fun, it's all good 👍
But if gpu doesn't make sense for you, then I understand how today would have been disappointing... I think all the value was in the content coming to gamepass... and that's how it'll be for the foreseeable future, as that's Phil's strategy.
@BartoxTharglod
That's a shame it's not working out for you.
Just out of interest, will you be moving to PS5 or to PC gaming? What platform offers you the kind of games you want (and in the best way)?
It's a shame you didn't sell the Series X a couple of months back before supply became plentiful... you would have got a good price for it very quickly.
Was not impressed. What’s the point in owning an Xbox Series X if all we’re gonna get is some cartoony BS. This isn’t 1997….Xbox Series X is capable of sooo much but gets wasted on games that could run on an iPad.
To be honest, I was disappointed. I didn’t think the games they showed were bad, just not the type of stuff that I’m into. In contrast, I loved the last nintendo direct because it showed exactly the types of games I’m into. I don’t enjoy gory first person shooters, and I’d love it if Xbox moved away from that category.
B. The “next 12 months” set expectations. And Starfield and Redfall showed well. I’m interested in Pentiment. And a few others.
@BartoxTharglod
Cool, as long as you've got something to scratch your gaming itch 👍
I'm strictly console, as I prefer gaming from the couch (plus a decent PC rig is a cost I can't justify at the moment).
Did try PS4 last gen, but have come back home to Xbox with the series X.
As long as there's competition, there'll be something for everyone and it's good to have choice... I might have to get Nintendo next to please the Mrs 🙂
Overall i give it a C.
I always judge these things by looking how many new games are in my ‘wish list’ compared to before the show and that is a big fat zero. I knew there wouldn’t be announcements of new stuff as all 23 studios are either working on an announced game or put one out in the last couple of years so it’s too soon to announce the next one.
It’s not just Xbox, but the whole industry is in the same place. Makes me wonder if they should have skipped the show altogether. The E3 style show should be something to sell your console. This was more hey current Xbox owners, we have lots of mediocre games you can play on your GP sub. Starfield was the only thing that would make someone buy a Series X/S here.
I did not see the Persona games coming to xbox anytime soon, so that was great. I'm like 54 hours into P5R, which was my reason for buying a PS4 last year. I'll make the call about starting over in October. P3 and P4 are day ones for me though. I love the idea of playing good JRPGs on xbox.
Overwatch 2 looks cool too.
Edit: I suspect the novelty of P5R on xbox will win out in Oct.
Can’t give it an A. No shadow drops.
@Peach64 Hollow Knight Silksong and Plague Tale Requiem are mediocre?
B-.
Good but not great. Nothing really spectacular. I was hoping for an also Backwards Compatible update or something. A lot of the new stuff looks very Samey. Starfield looks like great potential except for those eyes. Those cold, dead, lifeless, unblinking Zombie Eyes.
/shudder
@Bobarino The best thing about P5R is that there are so many combinations of who to spend time with, romance and also so many things you can only do in multiple playhtoughs like unlock extra areas by reading certain books.
Ahh people always complaining, they announced 50 games coming to Xbox in the next 12 months and many of them coming to game pass and some people say but where is goldeneye and where is banjo , I will tell you where these games are… in the past on your N64 , open your mind and explore game pass look for something different try some indie games and stop complaining instead start playing something new and have fun.
I thought it was pretty mediocre overall. Way too many timed exclusives, with a lot of them being indie games that are already 75% of what Game Pass is, and not enough first party exclusives or anything we don't already know about. Sure, it was great to finally get to see extended gameplay of Redfall and Starfield, but where were any of the other major 1st party exclusives? The only other major announcement was Forza, which is fine, but that's another we already knew was coming. Some will say the Kojima game, but it was literally just an announcement that he's making a game for them.
No mention for Scorn? That game look incredible and creepy.
Q) What grade would you give the Xbox Games Showcase 2022?
A) Whilst there personally wasn't much to interest me, there was certainly a lot of games shown. I like the format and feel it will provide an improved experience if they do the same next year, but this year's showcase unfortunately highlights how early they showed off all their other games in previous showcases.
My ranking thus was a C.
I thought it was a great showcase by Microsoft and when you have the Sony fundamentalists flooding in from PushSquare to downplay it, you just know it was a fecking great showing🤣🤣 .
@Sol4ris Well reading the comments Push Square, they are the usual mis guided fake bs comments about Xbox. It’s like I hated Xbox’s showcase, I want my games. Should I sell my Series X and get a PlayStation… then I go and read the comments on Push Square and it’s like nope nope nope nope…
I am currently a bit disheartened in Xbox though.
Maybe tomorrows show will make me happy? At least the big name AAA third party titles look impressive, Calypso especially.
But the thing with Xbox is I could sell my Series X and play the games I want on its cloud streaming service, whilst having a PS5 for everything else. Xbox make it much easier to play the games you want without a console.
Wanna give it D at first but the last 20 minutes of the showcase somehow saved it for me. So ..... B–.
I gave this an A for showing off fifty games set for release this year or the next. Even if it's only a couple of games that piqued my interest. This was an awesome presentation that got straight to the point and stayed there throughout the whole show. Bravo.
I was on pins and needles. I was hoping for Goldeneye, as it seems most were. When I saw Redfall and then Motorsport, I was floored. WO LONG came out of nowhere and I kept scrambling to learn what that was. Starfield is going to massive. Kojima. Yes.
I gave it an A. It was a load of fun to see even in fuzz-o-vision live streaming. Now to find the actual 4K videos...!
So i'm VERY late to this party. Had IRL stuff to do yesterday and just caught up with the showcase. I thought it was mostly excellent a very solid B especially for Game Pass subscribers.
The good
The bad
The missing
These shows usually need some of what is coming now but also a little of what is coming in the future. As they made the whole show about the next 12 months there were a lot of notable absentees:
TLDR
All in all a good showing for Game Pass and Starfield but questions still linger about first party content.
I gave it a B. I really like the way they just show games and gameplay but SoT and Grounded being there vs something else brought it down to a B. The whole Riot games stuff isn't for me personally either.
I really like that they are now focusing on games within the next 12 month's because as cool as it is getting a big announcement years out knowing what you will actually be playing I'd better. High on life and the Benedict Fox games looked really good. As dusk falls has been in my radar since they first announced it so can't wait to play that. Now give me some Slimerancher 2 information for my kid's tomorrow and I'll be happy.
@Bartig I'm pretty sure once they wrap up the AB deal it will be in gamepass then. They can't say it at moment because they don't own them.
@themightyant Thank you for posting a detailed and rational comment in a comment thread that has been a dumpster fire since yesterday afternoon lol
@antstephenson I agree, people are being insane and hyped themselves up on rumors and heresay that made them all disappointed and upset when it wasn't shown. The show was a banger and GamePass is stacked for the next 12 months.
@Sakisa Sooooo.... they should have showed those games again? Just to have them in the show?
@bobbypaycheque Thanks. Though I can understand if you're someone who is not keen on Game Pass or indies and you only really like AAA (which is fine, we're all different) then this show might have been a disappointment.
Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out how I will play even half of the games I liked.
@themightyant Considering we went through a global pandemic that changed the structure of how we work, ongoing supply chain issues and global instability in general I am very pleased at what we are getting. Between XBox, Nintendo, Sony and PC we are spoiled for choice this year, and this is going to be a sparse year compared with next year. Lots to enjoy this year and a ton to look forward to next year and the years to come.
I'd give the showcase a B-. Naraka, Forza Horizon 5, Persona, Pentiment, Diablo 4, Starfield, Minecraft Legends and Wo Long Fallen Dynasty are the only ones that I would have some interest in. There was a lot of stuff shown so I am sure there was something in it for everyone. The fact that most of what I want to play is available day one on Game Pass is great. I would like to see more family friendly games on Xbox. Does everything on Xbox have to be so dark, violent and a FPS? We need more Banjo. That was such a fun series.
@bobbypaycheque Completely agree with you. But I can still empathise with the people who only have Xbox (or one other console) and games seem a little lacking. Especially as so much was pushed from 2021, and 2022 seemed like it was going to be a HUGE year in gaming. Instead that may now be 2023 but more likely much of that will push to 2024. Dev cycles are getting loooooong for AAA.
