@NEStalgia I really really want to see what MS looks like without an ABK deal going on. I really really hope the relaunch the brand. This and they way it currently is, is pathetic.
At the time of Actraiser it was the first time. I have different opinion this many years forward l. I do think it’s about money. You personally might see different facets to it but overall I think the two companies have a very complex relationship that we will never know about. However I don’t think it’s a Villan vs a hero. I think it’s cost discussion.
Furi I will always have issues with as its DLC to an existing game.
@SplooshDmg I prefer term discussion and we didn’t disagree with Octopath 2. We had a slightly different viewpoint but I didn’t see Square as doing it out of hate. We both saw it as a cost issue. The only differences of opinion there, wa I thought it had more to do with them waiting for a GP deal. But that was it. I don’t think Square Enix is a villain there. I do think the relationship is strained but that’s normally with business partners and not one sided. Money smooths everything over.
I don’t take it personally. Maybe if it was someone else l. But you front woke that way. So no it’s a difference of opinion.
@SplooshDmg DLC yes I will all day long. Because it’s half of game. Which is dumb. But I didn’t scream about the pixel remasters. And I believe my conversation with you about Octopath 2 was based solely on money. But it’s funny how you forgot that conversation.
But you want to paint me the villain here you go right ahead.
@SplooshDmg I didn’t say “everyone” I even said I agree I’d this was a Square game. Now you are reaching. Again any other company sure it’s a different story. I just think in this one case it’s competition and a rival platform.
Oxenfree 2 was announced in 2021. A time period that was going well for Xbox in the indie scene and Gamepass. They were also acquired that same year by Netflix.
@SplooshDmg Afterparty didn’t launch in 2016. It launched well after. The developer was acquired in 2021 and the game was announced in 2021. This was time Xbox was doing well. So no you can use that logic here. 2021 was a great year for XSX/S
@SplooshDmg sure it is clouds. But like I said a dev successfully publishing all their games on platform suddenly saying nope after getting acquired seems far more “conspiracy theory” to me, than Netflix choosing not to publish on the platform seen as the “Netflix” of gaming. 🙅🏼♀️
@SplooshDmg I kinda of think you are missing the point. But yeah it’s fine. I don’t agree with you. Not this time with this game.
@NEStalgia no I think MS has dropped the ball. I mean they going back to XB1 numbers in Japan. They’ve fallen off all the charts globally it’s sad. I hated COD before but now I really hate it.
@SplooshDmg no you aren’t going to do that this time. It’s not a drop in the bucket. It’s the first of 40 games that they plan on releasing over the next few years. You don’t get to check out of the news, come back and act like Ota one thing when it’s clearly another.
Sony considers itself a multiplat dev and they don’t l release on Xbox. This isn’t different.
MS has made their intentions into cloud a mobile loud. Meanwhile Sonys been quiet it about it. They’ve also failed and lack the kind of money to be a player there.
Netflix can see that. But trust me if that changes they’ll stop releasing on Ps as well.
@SplooshDmg Fine be obtuse but this is one of the few times most people in the industry agree it’s a competition thing.
But you tell me why dev that’s gave interviews and did t have any issue publishing on Xbox suddenly decided nope?
And maybe they won’t release on Sony later but that’s not right now. Right now between them Xbox is literally trying to launch a mobile platform Sony is not.
@SplooshDmg fine but they want to provide a way to control your phone. Keep you engaged on it. MS had already said they want to do the same thing and open their own ap store. Wouldn’t you see that as your competitor?
@SplooshDmg @NEStalgia I’m not talking about other games skipping the platform. Richard Hoeg the corporate lawyer that’s explaining the ABK deal on YouTube even said in his opinion this is because Netflix sees MS as a rival. Others have also weighed in that that it makes sense. Again the dev had no issues with putting stuff on Xbox as the primary platform but suddenly skips?
The Square stuff or smaller pubs that’s one thing but this is literally Netflix getting into gaming. And I don’t think they would want to publisher their game on the “Netflix of gaming” platform.
@SplooshDmg 100% it’s streaming. When they said “Netflix” as a platform it means streaming. Yes there are native versions maybe but 100% it will be able to be streamed. And yes it’s true they could release on Xbox not GP, but Fortnite can be played via xCloud and isn’t technically in GP.
What doesn’t make sense is dev that’s released on Xbox twice before suddenly getting to chose their own platforms when aquired by publisher and say yeah we’re aren’t doing an Xbox version. It’s usually the Switch version they released after BTW.
As far as I know devs don’t normally get their choice in these matter; it’s the publisher. Now if they hadn’t been acquired sure.
Netflix today is now entering publishing games in the console space. They aren’t the same company as they were two months ago. Looking at past actions ignores they weren’t a publisher of console games two months ago.
And who they view as competition in that space depends on what they are aiming for. You can’t play Sony or Nintendos console games on a phone. You can play MS games via xCloud. Now right now that’s a service limited very limited but you think Netflix cares?
It’s not a war but you can’t expect the rules to stay the same now.
@SplooshDmg i highly doubt it was the studios choice when they’ve releases other games on Xbox and gave interviews about releasing on Xbox. I think there is even an IGN interview where the mentioned it where they praised. It.
Anyway, MS and Netflix can be friendly companies but as far as content goes Netflix can still see MS as a competitor. Nintendo doesn’t release content on Xbox but the two companies are friendly.
There is a lot of people with insight into this and I won’t link them but yes it’s most likely because Netflix sees MS as a direct competitor.
@NEStalgia I do feel ABK is taking all of their focus right now. I think it’s all hands on deck until that gets done. The rest of everything else is suffering because of it. I hope dearly they soft relaunch the console with Starfield.
@GuyinPA75 haters? I live in the US my target has looked empty for Xbox stuff for over a month. I go to the GameStop and there are PS5s to my head but not a XSX in sight. People are leaving either voluntarily or fired. Xbox isn’t dead and I still love it, but something is seriously wrong over there.
FYI this game doesn’t even have a physical either.
It’s fascinating the “Delay” is still winning. To me, if 60FPS is a patch later on- what else is missing. If they can’t manage 60fps/1080 I’m more than a bit concerned this game is coming in hot.
Between Pokémon ScarVi, Last of Us PC, and now this haven’t we had enough games coming in “hot”?
@Ralizah I agree any solution would have been better any solution. I’m more annoyed that all the previews etc were in 60fps and know they admit that’s coming. Then preview the dang thing in 30fps not 60fps.
@Ralizah it’s not actually like they couldn’t have factored another two months, and it not be considered a delay earlier this year. They could have dropped itJune 30th and no one would care. Still would have been in that “12 months”. They need to stop showing this stuff till it’s almost ready.
@ZuneTattooGuy so? Emulation isn’t illegal the laws are different.
Either way if MS didn’t think there was something there legally they wouldn’t have taken it off retail. MS has the legal power to go toe to toe with the Ninjas, MS isn’t. And MS left access to it in dev mode. That tells me there was something legally there.
@Banjo- well it’s their legal right. I can’t fault Nintendo for exercising their rights. You can still use dev mode. Plus MS is looking into legal emulation.
The response in the Twitter thread basically said Nintendo requested they cut off access in retail mode to emulating their games. I don’t know the validity of that email But it sounds pretty spot on.
@Ralizah to be fair Ms actually promotes Sega and Atlas titles on GP. Look an how Persona and Yakuza were both treated compared to Octopath and DQ Builders 2 The Sega titles get marketing budgets; the SE titles were blog posts.
But also to Sega does physical and new games on Xbox day one. I have no fear that a new Yakuza:LAD will launch on Xbox at the same time as the other platforms. I’m always surprised when Xbox gets a day 1 SE release. So there’s that. I do think the relationship is a bit strained but I don’t think that’s the entire issue either.
@Fenbops that’s bad thing about older Persona games. The time management of the social sim matters. Plus the bad endings (minus game overs) of P5R aren’t “bad” just different takes. SH2 bad ending is also neutral comparatively.
@relaxplease the point is that people have been dying for a BotW Sequel for 6 years. Most things are going to want to launch as far as they can from it. It will suck all the mindshare and media coverage. Literally, all anyone will be talking about is that game and most people will be playing it.
People really need not to underestimate Zelda. It’s a juggernaut.
@BrilliantBill no there is a lot of overlap with Zelda for everything period. It’s a sequel to one of the highest rating games ever; it overlaps with everything like COD and Pokémon do.
@KaijuKaiser Going off what @Friendly wrote Also, keep in mind the NPDs is revenue based. The game was 30 dollars; it would have sell double the amount of a typical 60 dollar game to chart.
@NEStalgia now it supposedly a technical issue but if that was the case why not mention that before they weee asked the security question? The “well we don’t like to announce a version until we’re ready” response just lends itself to people getting angry.
Who knows I’ll assume the best and assume it’s a technical issue 100% and just a big oops.
@themightyant To be fair, even before the updated information I was leaning towards option B not A of my initial post. which I guess from your last response wasn’t made 100% clear. Hence why I said what I did to Tharsman.
I’m glad they’ve updated the situation but again a dev launching a game like that not on Xbox at this point doesn’t make sense to me unless they want a GP deal or something. I understand it does to you and we can have differing views. I appreciate different views.
@themightyant look I’m not saying I don’t get your points, but Saints Row did far better on Xbox than PlayStation .You can be the market leader but that doesn’t automatically mean better sales. If Madden launched on Switch the same time as Xbox, which version do you think would sell better? The Switch has a larger install base. Right? Ah yeah.
So playing the “maximize one platform” game doesn’t work with larger games like it does with indie games.
@Tharsman I mean I don’t disagree with you but I know they pay for some ports of Japanese games through stuff lol GP deals etc. I can’t help but that’s what they are doing here.
@BrilliantBill sure but supposedly the dev says there is no exclusivity they just aren’t publishing on Xbox. Which if they aren’t lying then they wanted money from MS and Ms didn’t pay.
Not faulting Sony here at all. It’s the dev I question.
So either a) they are lying or b) MS didn’t give them money. You can’t tell me the platform that owns most of the WRPGs devs is a bad place to put your games. But it is what it is.
@themightyant The email says he’s leaving over the next few months. This doesn’t feel like something you’d do if you wanted to make your own studio. But who knows.
I’d like to see a return to the Phantom line of controllers. Getting variants of controllers ther we can just get off design lab without the white back seems a bit pointless.
@NEStalgia @Ralizah The argument about Japanese games not doing well on Xbox is contextual and not well addressed.
To be clear, games like Resident Evil, Soulslike, and even Yakuza games don't do horribly. I think the Yakuza or LAD 7 split in the UK was like 65/35, that's not terrible. Elden Ring has been in Xbox most played for like a year now. And, I suspect Wo Long to be making records on player count. Also, interestingly enough, narrative driven games do fine as well, as do RTS games. Age 2 on console is doing quite well but there is a point to me bringing this up. It's actually "Weeb" games and those games like them that do poorly.
Of the three playerbases, Xbox is the smallest by a lot. Not counting PS5/Series X/S you have a player base that's about 1/3 of the other two, maybe slightly more, but 120 vs 40? In general, more people = more potential buyers. Now all three have a large amount of casual fans, but it's the where in the world is Carmen San Diego that makes a difference.
Xbox Casual fans are in US/Canada. They love sports games, CoD, GTA, and an occasional "Sad Dad" game Witcher, Yakuza, etc.
PS casual fans are all over including countries like China because that platform dominates more globally than the other two.
Nintendo has a huge casual audience in Japan, home to most of those games developers.
Casual audiences don't tolerate too much "Weeb", so Japanese only on what is a essentially a "Sad Dad" beatemup, is okay. It's not the same as a heavy menu based UI. LAD 7 works because it's a has an English dub, and is one of these least menu based turned based JRPGs you can play. (And whilsts not a "Sad Dad" I could argue that Ichiban is a "Sad Son" trying to get back to his father figure). All in all it's playable.
That said, some anime games do fine on Xbox because again there is some tolerance in casual audience for some "Weeb" like stuff. Most of these are known anime with English dubs. And to be fair, Playstation isn't the hot zone for Japanese games either. Some do fine, but games like Sakura Wars died. The playerbase is large enough though that it sustains some of the games better. For instance, Trails and Atelier games have established fans; they are fine.
Now, let's talk about the "Weebs" for a moment. They are a finite group that a) tends to only be on 1 platform and b) is slow to move off said platform. Nintendo originally lost these fans in the PS1/PS2 era when Nintendo lost Final Fantasy. But Playstation started to lose these fans in the PS3 era. Most moved to a handheld platform DS/PSP ---> 3DS and now Switch. In order to get that group back, you'd have to lock up about 50% of all the Japanese games coming up for the next few years. Otherwise, they ain't moving.
In conclusion-
Playstation has a big wide audience, so games will thrive.
Nintendo has the fanbase, larger audience, and well Japan, even small games thrive.

@BrilliantBill sure but supposedly the dev says there is no exclusivity they just aren’t publishing on Xbox. Which if they aren’t lying then they wanted money from MS and Ms didn’t pay.
Not faulting Sony here at all. It’s the dev I question.
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Devs 'Aren't Playing The Exclusivity Game' With PlayStation
So either a) they are lying or b) MS didn’t give them money. You can’t tell me the platform that owns most of the WRPGs devs is a bad place to put your games. But it is what it is.
Re: Report: Resident Evil Creator Shinji Mikami Is Leaving Xbox Studio Tango Gameworks
@themightyant The email says he’s leaving over the next few months. This doesn’t feel like something you’d do if you wanted to make your own studio. But who knows.
Re: These Four Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass (February 28 - March 3)
@NEStalgia what takes you five minutes takes me all day to respond takes you five minutes. I need time a pc and caffeine.
Re: Xbox Set To Unveil Another New Controller Variant This Month
I’d like to see a return to the Phantom line of controllers. Getting variants of controllers ther we can just get off design lab without the white back seems a bit pointless.
Re: These Four Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass (February 28 - March 3)
Xbox has neither so many games die.
