@Would_you_kindly while that’s true. They aren’t going to be keeping the entire new workforce. I can’t imagine them keeping overlapped positions.
Not to mention King is a cash cow; and comparing that to like the Holo Lens team? Don’t get me wrong it sucks, but a lot of companies over-hired in States. That said yes it’s bad optics.
Pretty sure the money is locked down by the banks, and MS can’t touch it until the deal is officially off. Les the deal goes through and then they don’t have it.
@SplooshDmg sorry back. So the new Switch one is supposed to have a surpass for new tracks. I feel like ultimately that will be the definitive version.
@InterceptorAlpha I’m not really sure he got the axe. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to distance himself. He’s still with Xbox so I tend to feel it was his decision.
There is definitely something going on at 343i Jospeh Staten is leaving and going back the Xbox Publishing.
I know a few other studios are effected. But the rumor is 343I was heavily effected by the layoffs. I can’t help but think this had more to do with Infinite being mishandled.
@Fenbops Troy Bakers Kanji is super funny and not to be missed. As it’s been said the story is more grounded than P5’s. Also P5 has so many characters that it feels like some of them get a bit shafted, like Haru. Strikers shows her a lot of love but overall she was done dirty :c.
While overall P5 has better mechanics, I like the fusion in 4 better, shuffle time is straight up broken, and being able to garden much earlier was better. It’s a trade off I guess
@EliJapan Pokémon is a JRPG, thats like saying SMT isn’t. Not that I don’t get you point but it’s not the software. Most Japanese people have never played any of Xbox first party games to even judge if they are appealing or not. And Really how often are you taken a console back for repairs of any kind? I’ve never needed any repair work on any of my Nintendo products. So I really doubt that matters. Even if Spiderman was exclusive to Xbox, no everyday person in Japan is going to want an Xbox. The 360 had one of the best exclusives JRPG libraries during its era, and it sold 1.5 million units. 1.5 million units. FF 13 is basically exclusive at this point and basically offers what Square Enix usually does for remasters, and Twitter was trending the other day with people begging Square Enix to remaster it. That’s with Westerners.
Unless Nintendo buys the Xbox division; I don’t see MS being able to do anything to move the needle. They could have all the games on shelves. Offer the same things as the other two systems and it won’t matter period.
The issue is that Xbox would have to do something unique that other two consoles don’t do. And it’s simply doesn’t. Xbox could have its own Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Splatoon but why bother buying one when Nintendo has that?
It’s not the I disagree as much as I see as a fruitless endeavor. It’s nice to see them reclaim some of the lost fans. And I think they should continue to improve on their relations. The loyal fans in Japan deserve that. I just don’t think it’s matter of offering similar things as PlayStation or Nintendo.
@NEStalgia Hi-Fi Rush is supposed to be announced in this direct as the surprise new previously unannounced Tango game. =p
Now that could be a no show … but I hope not.
@Grumblevolcano well it’s been confirmed so it’s not a rumor anymore. It’s also been confirmed Starfield isn’t a part of it. Guess it blows your theory out the window.
@Grumblevolcano actually the rumor says there will be a separate event just for Starfield. At least the full post from Jez says that. But given Jez Corden, Jeff Grubb, and Tom Warren have all heard of the event I’m least likely to believe it’s fake. Also Jeff is saying Hi-Fi Rush is supposed to be there. Why name drop that? It could be fake it’s just up until all three of them were reporting on the same thing… I’d agree but now
@NEStalgia yeah no I don’t agree sharply. You both are making conjecture when there’s would be no reason. A) Forza has been a MS IP since the beginning. If they went radio silent for the FTC why not date that? The FTC wouldn’t care. Forza’s never been a concern. And again choosing to ignore Minecraft Legends makes no sense because its biggest audience is Switch Owners which would largely ignore an Xbox focus showcase. And not dating the game when they were literally using that as counter argument to the FTC on what they would do with COD? That makes no sense. We going to go radio silent because we don’t want to draw attention on our exclusive titles but we aren’t going to over hype our multi platform titles ?? it’s either one or the other you can’t have both.
Besides why be radio silent for the Game Awards which I doubt the FTC knows about but be loud and proud for your own show which will drawn their attention?
@NEStalgia @Grumblevolcano that’s your interpretation. Hardly poof.
But if they were planning this showcase at the same time then the same set of events would happen. Shows like this are literally planned months in advance. Months not weeks. And unless they had a showcase planned the release date of something like Forza or Minecraft legends wouldn’t have matter to the FTC. In fact, those not being dated leans more into a showcase than regulators. Actually you’d think MS would want to show off Minecraft legends just to prove to regulators that they play nice. So yeah no it had nothing to do with the FTC.
@Grumblevolcano forgive me but where are you getting MS wouldn’t participate in E3? And also, MS being radio silent had nothing to do with AB and everything with a lack of anything to show. That’s was evident before the AB deal had issues.
@cragis0001 to be fair MHR and Persona hits Jan 20th which would buy them breathing room till February and they could open AoE pre-orders before this show.
@Would_you_kindly even if it’s not the easier of the two to get long term; most people will grab the bundle ergo it’s stealth price raise. That’s why they do these bundles.
Edit: I’m agreeing with you it’s just I don’t think you need that qualifier in your statement. It’s price increase if they don’t lower the other console.
@NEStalgia @SplooshDmg while sure aggressive MS would be fine. I’m not sure how they would do that. They don’t do exclusivity deals like they used to. Yes they still do them but not in a way that digs deep. The FTC is trying to block their purchase so either way they can’t buy that much up anymore.
@SplooshDmg I supposed I should have prefaced that as third party exclusive single player content doesn’t move the needle from a business standpoint very much. MS is a trillion dollar company that needs a return on investments that third party exclusives don’t do or at least not as much as day 1 GP additions. Entire studios have some many other elements that make that return doable.
And Sony doesn’t need a rerun on investment as much as mindshare.
Again a game of chicken that leaves fans in the dark and upset blaming corporations. I mean they shouldn’t aligned with any corporation. But it’s almost like the system is rigged to make you do so.
@SplooshDmg the Windows might clear but what’s not as you said is platforms. There is t a world that a Crisis Core makes sense and the remake doesn’t. And yes many games are barred from PC as well but that’s changing and has been for a while many many games aren’t or the window is known upfront.
Ms wouldn’t be aggressive with exclusives anymore because it costs them money. It doesn’t make them money. I’d be surprised if it ever really made a dent. If it did they would be aggressive. Plenty of Western studios would take the bag. But MS exclusives don’t make people buy Xboxes.
However I’m not sure it really helps Sony either. Can you honestly tell me there were millions of Xboxes owners that bought PS5s for FF? Maybe a million at best. But the reality is FF was probably going to sell close to that number on PS anyway. Did that really make a big difference? Image wise sure but market share?
On the other hand exclusive multiplayer games like Splatoon do bring in new users.
Overall I think this is some obscure game of chicken. I really want the dirty laundry aired so I have juicy content from both sides to eat popcorn over.
@SplooshDmg No, it's not safe to assume that exclusivity is gone. I don't know why people think PC exclusivity has anything to do with console exclusivity and vice versa. For instance, Ooblets was exclusive to Xbox on Console and EGS on PC at the same time., It's entirely possible that Sony reupped the console exclusivity but didn't reup the PC one. And therefore still has console exclusivity. No proof that console exclusivity is gone at all.
I think most devs shop for that, but I'm just saying that bringing up Bloodborne, when it's owned by Sony, doesn't make a good argument. That is unless there is another argument that we haven't seen that they are trying to reference with it. I don't know if it's hard to say. I mean I don't understand why MS mentioned Bloodborne unless they simply are trying to swindle the CMA, but a quick IP check would solve that. But then MS has had their IPs published on other platforms frequently and before Ori, so it's entirely possible they don't see the weird comparison. I'm also convinced they have some sort of ownership or dealings with the Super Lucky IP as well...
MS owns a lot of IP just like Nintendo and Sony ... >_< I want some new games with those IPs.... coughs sorry back on topic.
@Rmg0731 exactly how much was removed from the market? Because as of yet three games have released and three are slated. And all but 1 was a new IP. So I don’t think you can really claim that at all.
Neither Grounded, Pentiment, or that Ninja Theory game that died would have see light of day would MS funding their too small and niche.
@NEStalgia @SplooshDmg Well I think part of it is that Sony initially enters into say a year or two exclusivity, but then extends that if they feel the title is still doing well for them as an exclusive. People assume it's one and done, but it's not. At least not anymore, so with FFR the original deal was a year, then they extended. People wrongly assumed the extension was another year. Now, it still could be timed but the timing window has changed beyond a year. I have to wonder if some of it is a subtle threat on Square's part to Sony... but anyway
Personally, that's the irritating part.
As for specific platform exclusion, none of the evidence suggests this is occurring despite what some think.
However, you are talking about what's legal in the States. Japan has different laws. I'd like the remind people the FF games never hit GP in Japan. They were specifically prevented from being on GP in that country. Now, why I don't know. But for a fact they were. Monster Hunter World was prevented from having Asian language versions except on Playstation. There are a number of games like Plague Tale Requiem whose Japanese language version was postponed until the PS version was launched. Anyway, as for "Blocking" content argument. MS's argument loses steam with bringing Bloodborne in, however, I haven't read all the documents. What I believe this is, is a piece a larger context. And that's that publishers often times give Sony a first crack at exclusivity or ownership before MS gets a chance to do so. Meaning that From Software may have offered Sony Exclusivity rights before MS got a chance to "Bid" on them. @Doublecell okay if I’m following you, Sony buying exclusivity is fine, but MS buying a studio is bad. How would you feel if MS instead bought exclusivity for COD only on Xbox with the 70 billion and not the publisher. Would that be better? You wouldn’t be angry then?
