Re: These Four Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass (February 28 - March 3)

@Ralizah ironically the first SMT game I played was TMS. I had no idea what SMT was but Nintendo made sure I’d heard ofTMS.

@NEStalgia I’ve had breakfast so I ca respond. TMS was hurt by the JP only option because the game wasn’t SMTxFE. The game it was ventured more into Persona territory and those games need dubs. That said the game was a massive departure for either franchise it was supposed to be and honestly being tied to FE and SMT hurt it.

SH2 was partially hurt by the 2: But also it feels a bit outdated compared to more recent titles. There was also very little marketing for the game in the West. And ultimately most critics wanted P6 not SH2.

As for Xbox, Atlus barely marketed to the platform. If you didn’t know where to look, you could easily be forgiven for thinking it was slipping Xbox.

Honestly, I like the game better than TMS. The DLC isn’t that important because you can YouTube the cutscene. And you’re done. But yeah Atlus day 1 DLC for the win!

Still I don’t think Xbox is hopeless. P5R did really well on GP. But it’s still funny to me “farming simulator” and “Goat Similator” can be a top played game but no one wants to try out Story of Seasons?

@NEStalgia it’s the dungeons they reuse the first three, well really each of them is one dungeon but you back tread. Kind of like how you do in TMS after you get the door unlock skill. Then there is this dungeon called the soul matrix which is needed to get advance skills but it’s very same looking and very frustrating and easy to get lost in.

The story is not complicated, but the final boss doesn’t make 100% sense. Part of that is thr issue with the lost numbers DLC, which has this one scene that explains partially some of the final boses motivations. It’s not like the DLC is cut content though, but that scene is kind of important. The dungeon that goes with that DLC is also the only one that properly uses the sabbath mechanic.

@NEStalgia @Ralizah I’ve actually had dinner now.

SH2 did better sales wise than TMS Encore and maybe base, but critically did worse. The irony is that it’s more of an evolution of TMS. The dungeon design is most people’s biggest complaint, which is funny because now thanks to P5 everyone expects those style dungeons. Although, to the major complaint if the Soul Matrix was closer than Mementos it might have been received better.

Either way not being on the Switch hurt it terms of people play those kind of JRPGs on that platform all the time. But moving a game to a platform not known for dealing with turn based games well and a platform raise on Persona, yeah critics were going to hate it.

Switch critics have Pokémon to compare to. Granted it’s not even close to SMT V, but I do think Switch fans like a nice character driven game and would see through the flaws.

I do hope it gets more love though the protag is amazing. I want Atlus to make more speaking (and female) protags.

Re: Microsoft Signs Binding Contract To 'Bring Xbox Games To Nintendo Gamers'

@NEStalgia I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m all for GP being everywhere. Just not individual upports of 360 games that’s aren’t even native on Xbox. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

@iplaygamesnstuff look I do t disagree with you in one sense but again we aren’t the market. The silent majority literally wants native hardware for potty breaks. Do I want that? No I’d rather be able to Fire Emblem on my Xbox in HDR bit that isn’t happening.

Unless it’s a game meant to be graphic heavy like Final Fantasy teens, it sells better on the Switch. That’s just a fact.

Re: Microsoft Signs Binding Contract To 'Bring Xbox Games To Nintendo Gamers'

mousieone

@iplaygamesnstuff the Switch is cheaper and goes to the bathroom with you. You can also pause the game in mid action even with games with no pause button and leave it that way.

While lots of people do like 4k gaming a much larger amount prefer the above. Most of that crowd doesn’t frequent forums or browse the internet, so their vices seem silent but it truly is the silent majority.

Re: Microsoft Signs Binding Contract To 'Bring Xbox Games To Nintendo Gamers'

@Titntin

okay this is where we disagree @NEStalgia he’s tweet says “Xbox Games” but the official statement is COD exclusively not “Xbox games”. That’s his words, but the official words are COD.

I don’t know what he means but I feel like he’s talking about titles like Minecraft or Skyrim that are already on the Switch or other ABK titles or he could be talking about streaming like how Sega games exist in the NSO service so that’s partially where we meet again.

And I do agree he’s talking about the next Switch, which would be able to handle COD. I just don’t think they are talking about porting titles directly to the Switch unless it’s a live device or pre existing game, or streaming.

Re: Octopath Traveler 2's Glowing Reviews Make The Xbox Situation Even More Painful

mousieone

@RadioHedgeFund no it doesn’t actually make sense put it on PlayStation platforms to “maximize” Japanese sales at least not in the case with OT2. Less than 3 million PS5s have been sold there and with the exception of GT most PS4 software titles die. And there is a huge amount of scalping going on int Japan for PS5. At this point, Japan is almost exclusively Switch, just putting OT2 on Switch maximizes that country.

PlayStation platforms is for everywhere else. I mean I’m not disagreeing with the rest of your statement but PlayStation games barely chart in Japan and drop off quick.

Re: Microsoft Says Xbox Game Pass 'Creates Another Option' For Devs To Make Money

mousieone

@uptownsoul I assure companies will use MTXs regardless of platform holders. However, if it was simply a matter of selling less copies why are Nintendo games just as full? Chocobo GX that had heavy monetization in it. And it’s console exclusive that have nothing to do with GP. Also there isn’t really loss of “copies”, MS pays for those copies. From a publisher stand point the copies are just as if they sold them.

GP isn’t the cause of MTXs.

Re: Microsoft Says Xbox Game Pass 'Creates Another Option' For Devs To Make Money

mousieone

@NEStalgia People are people. Some people do have legitimate grievances but everything g gets overshadowed by people who just love to fight and throw mud. It’s sad.

@uptownsoul wrong interpretation. Let me be more clear. Whether GP exists or not, more MTXs are coming. Just like MTXs still exist in 70 dollar games. Just like how they’ll be more live service games despite a bunch being canceled over these last few months. Nintendo games have MTXs and the latest Pokémon games show the strains of an “almost annualized” franchise. There are no heroes, just companies that exist to make money.

Re: Microsoft Says Xbox Game Pass 'Creates Another Option' For Devs To Make Money

mousieone

@uptownsoul Companies already do this. They already monetize FOMO consumers who have to purchase new games at full price are through season passes and deluxe version.

GP has just found a way to monetize the secondary batch of consumers that wait for sales don’t buy that stuff anyway.

In other words, GP isn’t going to cause more MTXs; we’re already there.

As an example, Atlus already had questionable DLCs practices before GP .

Re: Microsoft CEO Suggests ActiBlizz Deal Would Help Xbox 'Compete' In Japan

mousieone

@stvevan well one could argue the bulk of PS players don’t play Japanese games either. The difference is PS has a such a large player base, that it makes up for it. But looking at the COD portion of the ABL deal; it’s obvious what actually makes the money.

Now the people not buying Japanese games aren’t those on the web.. This is the very large casual gaming audience that buys Madden, Saints Row, etc.

Again PS just has a bigger players to help rebalance the scales.

Re: UK Authority Proposes Excluding Call Of Duty From Xbox Activision Blizzard Deal

mousieone

@NEStalgia maybe but I think from the statement this are just the proposed options. The CMA seems to want to actual make the deal work, unlike the FTC. MS lawyers just needs to figure out how to do it with this framework. That’s what they are paid for.

But it’s just funny that it is all about COD. Meaning any other acquisition is fine as long as the company doesn’t have an IP as big as COD. It’s laughable really. COD COD COD

Re: Xbox Marketing Budget Reportedly 'Reduced' In The Wake Of Microsoft Layoffs

mousieone

@NEStalgia so again the guy in this rumor is directly referencing a trade show, E3. He also went on to say in the same tweet Nintendo had nothing for second half 2023. Which insiders have debunked. Marketing may have been cut, but this guy doesn’t know that. That’s what I’m saying.

Now in the recent past, Xbox actually spent a ton of money for the marketing P5R for GP. While Atlus may have handled how it, was marketed; they paid for it. Personally though I don’t think MS would have done that big display, but I think it worked. MS does have really weird marketing choices, I agree with that. They hired a new marketing person last year I think, yo help with direct style shows.that tells me they want to do away with traditional trade shows at least for the US. Which the reality is do they help in the US?

Re: Xbox Marketing Budget Reportedly 'Reduced' In The Wake Of Microsoft Layoffs

mousieone

@NEStalgia again I think this guy doesn’t exactly have the right info. In the past, the E3 badge got you access to the MS show next door. My guess with the change in ownership Reedpop and MS couldn’t come to an agreement, so they gave them the line it’s not in the budget. But the same weekend he came out with that, Xbox was all in during Taipei show. I mean they had game demo booths etc. MS has already announced a June show, why could is ground traffic at E3 when they do their own online demo events?

Re: Xbox Marketing Budget Reportedly 'Reduced' In The Wake Of Microsoft Layoffs

mousieone

I don’t actually think this is accurate. He posted that the same day Xbox had a booth at the Taipei Games Show. Also this is same guy saying Nintendo won’t be at E3 because they have “nothing to show”. Which I honestly think is not true either. They could have easily done a booth around Zelda.

MS never really does much marketing and has their own theater next to the E3 show. They haven’t technically be a part of E3 in a while.
