Well, the rumoured Xbox event for January 2023 is official! It's been announced today that Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda will be hosting a "Developer_Direct" show on January 25th at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm GMT.
The livestream will feature "an inside look at some of the games coming to Xbox, PC and Game Pass over the next few months", including The Elder Scrolls Online, Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends and Redfall.
Meanwhile, a separate standalone show is in the works for Starfield.
You'll be able to watch the Xbox and Bethesda "Developer_Direct" event live with us here at Pure Xbox on Wednesday, January 25th, and it'll also be available to watch separately on YouTube and Twitch.
It's expected to last around 43 minutes.
"Presented by the game creators themselves from studios including Arkane Austin, Mojang Studios, Turn 10 Studios, and ZeniMax Online Studios, the Developer_Direct will focus on big features, extended gameplay showcases, and the latest info for Xbox games launching in the next few months..."
Looking forward to this? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below.

Great news. A few dates and a couple of surprises wouldn't go amiss.
Hopefully there are a few updates on promising 3rd party games from not-E3 like Replaced, Ereban & Benedict Fox too.
So it was true in the end, at least they set expectations before the event that Starfield wouldn't be present.
Finally... though I really don't understand why they insist on having these things in the middle of the day during the work week. It's all pre-recorded anyway, so why not Prime Time?
@XxEvilAshxX It's not middle of the day worldwide. 12pm PT means, 8pm GMT, 9-10pm in most of Europe, 7am in AUS etc. It's quite a good time to have it for a global event.
Sweet deal! First xbox event I'll be watching.
Excited for this. Hopefully a deep dive into redfall as that is sounding better by the day.
Starfield being a separate event is smart. Tightens this one up - looking forward to it. And tbh I know I will play Starfield anyway so don’t need it eating up showcase time.
Goldeneye please? Just so I have an excuse to invite some friends round.
Oooo happiness :3
That is good news and hopeful this format will be more to the point. We don't need 10/15 of chat with the devs but some bullet points and gameplay with and air time of 30/40min
Yeeess!
I’m so ready for them to shut us all up and squashing the narrative that “Xbox has no games”.
Nice. I hope the format is great!
3 out of the 4 games im not interested in so I will skip the direct and just watch the Redfall stuff on YouTube (or here) later on.
I'm more interested in the Starfield showcase which hopefully won't be too far away now.
@UltimateOtaku91
Same here only Redfall for me, but like to keep an eye Forza.
Will be interesting to see if my release date’s predicted still stands true after event.
Redfall before June 2023
Forza September
Starfield November. Separate event, I know.
@K1LLEGAL I don't think we will be hearing about Goldeneye again until Nintendo wants us to hear about it.
As was 'leaked' - Just a fortnight away too.
@IOI 'Xbox' has released a LOT of games over the past 18months and have a few more to come before E3 2023. If you look at what games MS has, or expected to 'release' from E3 2021 to E3 2023, you would see that MS have averaged over 6 a year.
They have released MSFS, FH5, Halo Infinite, Psychonauts 2, Deathloop, Ghostwire Protocol, Age of Empires 4, Grounded, and Pentiment with Minecraft Legends, Forza Motorsport, Starfield and Redfall expected before E3. That's not including any DLC, Updates and any 3rd Party partner games - like FH5 Hot Wheels, Sea of Thieves content, High on Life, Scorn etc.
Just because they didn't ALL come to Xbox Consoles on the Day they released or also released on Playstation so 'not' exclusive to Xbox, doesn't mean they don't count and by E3 2023, they are all expected to be on Xbox - Deathloop is already, Ghostwire is coming in March, AoE4 is coming soon too - as is 'older' games like Goldeneye and AoE2.
I get that Xbox console owners specifically didn't benefit a LOT in 2022 with First Party releases - Ghostwire and AoE4 not coming to console and having to wait for Deathloop, Grounded didn't 'feel' new because of Early Access to a Beta and Pentiment isn't a AAA game to appeal to masses - but that's still MS released games from MS owned studios/IP's
It's only those that are too focussed on just Xbox Console vs Playstation that somehow 'overlook' the fact that MS has released quite a lot of new games over the past 18months, even though the last 'year' has been quiet for reasons - especially as 2 of the games that 'helped' Sony bump up their 'exclusives' are 'MS' owned games.
I keep 'listing' the brand new MS games released over the last 18months and those expected before E3 2023 to show that they have been putting games out and 'more' than Sony have in the same time frame. Sony have also bumped up the perception of 'more' with 3rd Party deals (like Deathloop, FF, Forspoken and Ghostwire) as well 'ports' of older games to PS5/PC (Last of Us pt 1 for example) but otherwise, released 3 games in the past 18months (H:FW, GT7 and GoW:R) versus the 8 or 9 games MS released. Its just that MS released a lot between E32021 and Dec 21 when Sony gamers had to make do with remasters and 3rd Party deals to tide them over.
Nice, I'll watch it for sure.
I am still expecting Starfield before E3 2023 and Bethesda themselves stated they are on target for a first half release too. On top of that, we have heard that 'Playtesters' are pleasantly surprised, even those who were sceptical before - which would seem to indicate that its not 'half a year' or more away.
Personally, I think Redfall is more in need of its own Show as it seems some are still unsure of what this game even is. There are still people who think its a co-operative ONLY Left4Dead type game with Vampires instead of Zombies. I think it needs a breakdown more than Starfield but I do think that more eyes are on Starfield, more weight and expectation is put on that IP.
I don't see the 'point' in delaying a game until there is a decent window to release. If its 'ready', put it out. If it releases days before/after another game, so what? Some people maybe more interested in one than the other so 'delays' annoy them, make them 'wait' just because some other 'different' game, different genre, different game-play loop etc released too.
I could understand more if it was Outer Worlds 2 and Starfield both expected in 'May', maybe even Avowed and Starfield, but Forza, Minecraft or Redfall is not in direct competition. If you 'can't' afford to buy multiple games in the same month, then you don't need to buy ANY Xbox game day 1 so could jump between Starfield, Forza and Redfall without it costing you £200+ that month...
Hi there fellow gamers,
Xbox is getting the first games show event of the year, very nice indeed.
Hopefully we´ll get some release dates for Redfall and Forza Motorsport as well as some updates for Hellblade 2, Fable, Perfect Dark, Avowed and the Indiana Jones game.
And to wrap things up, the Starfield showcase that needs to impress and win all the players they can(myself included).
Make this a good one Microsoft.
Chhers, stay safe folks and happy gaming to us all
"DirectXbox" is probably a better title, as mused by SpawnWave.
Oh cool. I’m off that day so can watch. Hope they get the format right, I consider Nintendo the gold standard for this kind of thing. A surprise or two would be very welcome.
@XxEvilAshxX
works great for me, I can watch them while slacking at the office. If they were during "primetime", I would rather be actually y'know playing games rather than watching videos about them.
I just can't wait until these games come out so i can stop hearing about them... It's like we all focus on these 4 or 5 games for a couple years and nothing else comes out for the Xbox in-between. I am an Xbox fanboy, but i have to be honest... PlayStation has been killing it with the amount of good single player story driven games they have released in the last couple of years. It makes Xbox look like a bunch of dummies. I for one only play single player story games, and I want to continue to play them on Xbox, but I might have to get a PlayStation because they are the ones releasing games that look interesting and that I actually want to play. I wish Xbox would produce and release games like PlayStation is making...
I like that they used Direct in the title.
I guess I should be pleased they are showing something.
But for Motorsport it would be a non event for me (I think redfall will suck), and because this outdated controller has no giro, I cant race seriously on Motorsport either without an investment in steering wheel I don't want to make.
Obviously I'm interested in Starfield, but cant help feeling it may suffer another delay. Hope I'm wrong and its amazing
Glad to see it’s actually happening. It’s all the more exciting as I picked up a Series X over Christmas!
@BAMozzy copy paste comment
Really looking forward to Xbox getting some release dates out for some of these games..
Gels well with the rumors of Goldneye's release at end of month. At this point I'm not setting myself up for any more disappointment from Xbox, but boy I hope this is the event that turns things around.
Really curious how this presentation will be formatted. I hope Xbox treats it like a Nintendo Direct and makes it punchy and fun.
LOL at least they're not pretending it's not Nintendo Direct inspired
@Titntin Serious GT fans won't touch the gyro controls with a 100 ft pole. Too high latency, too much unintentional movement just from the nature of holding the controller coupled with the somewhat jumpy steering.
I'm not a "serious" player, but I toyed with the gyros a bit and then went back to stick on GT7. If I do go for the VR2 kit though and if the update really makes the whole game VR, I'll probably use gyro for the rest...but only due to the separate VR control kit.
If it were an FPS I'd agree that a gyro vs non-gyro option is a deal breaker. But in the case of a racer, the gyro controls are a casual gimick, and the hardcore players of either series have no interest in them, so definitely not a deal breaker for serious genre fans.
@NEStalgia Its exactly because im not a serious genre fan that I dont have a proper steering wheel set up, which would undoubtably provide the best experience.
But having made the adjustment to gyro racing and having that level of control, its very hard to go back to stick racing, at least for myself, for a game like motorsport. Im a huge Forza Horizon fan, I have no problem playing with pad, but I experience a subtlty of control playing gt7 with a gyro that I have found transformative for that style of game. I have been genuinely shocked by what a difference its made to my enjoyment.
Obviously opinions may vary and im sorry you didnt enjoy it, Id like more people to experience what I felt!
Yes! Looking forward to more info on what Xbox got cooking up. I just hope we get some firm release dates.
@Titntin Yeah, I mean there's no questioning that it's fun to play with. But definitely within the serious (meaning competitive players and the high ranking players on the leaderboards...the kind of players that Sony makes movies about 10 years later, lol) gyro is just a no-go. There's a few that pull it off, but stick is by far the dominant choice to play, followed by wheels because the gyro is too slow and prone to unintended input. (Modern wireless gyros have serious input lag. It's a problem with Splatoon on the Switch as well but everyone's on equal footing there, but the WiiU gyro was very special with very little lag!) For GT (and would be the same with Forza) competitively, players on gyro will simply have unavoidably delayed response times vs stick and wheel players, and will also have slower lock to lock times which...matters when competitively racing
I'm no competitive player either, and I definitely get preferring the gyro (or VR gryo!!) but it's definitely not a negative for the title in general to lack it.
Having said that, I have a really hard time playing any FPS without a gyro and it's why Splatoon is the only online competitive FPS I actually play these days
Looking foward to watching this with my son we got a series x for Christmas so should be fun !
For me, it is not just about these games. XB has to show they are going to consistently deliver new games going forward and in reasonable timeframes.
Nice and hopefully this becomes standard going forward.
@NEStalgia and again
Fantastic news! Can’t wait! This year we are going to see a ton of games on Xbox 😃
@themightyant AHH yes but MURICA is the only country that exists, did you not know 🤣🤣
@XxEvilAshxX 8pm in the UK. Perfect time.
