We've finally made it to 2023 and that means we've got a big year ahead for Xbox, with a number of games locked in and ready for release. One of these titles happens to be Bethesda's highly anticipated space RPG, Starfield.
Todd Howard and co don't seem to be wasting any time, either. As highlighted by Xbox enthusiast and Twitter user Klobrille, the game's "official" support page has gone live today on Bethesda's website. It might not seem like much, but it has got some fans excited.
Perhaps one thing worthy of mention is a section about Starfield's release date - with the page reconfirming the game will be released in the first half of this year. Here is this particular Q&A in full:
"What is Starfield's release date? Starfield arrives exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC in the first half of 2023."
So, there you go - Starfield really does seem to be arriving in the first half of 2023. Bethesda previously confirmed this in an announcement dating back to May last year. The company's other project Redfall (developed by Arkane Austin) will also land around then.
Are you confident about Starfield arriving in the first half of 2023? Notice anything else on the support page? Tell us down below.

My money is on it launching by April.
I cannot wait for this to come out. This was the whole reason I bought a series s as a second console. Hopefully it’s as amazing as I presume it’s going to be!
Feels like a good place to remind people that God of War Ragnarok had very little information coming out about it in the months leading up to release and still came out on time (well, on its delayed release date) and was well received. So lack of updates isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and doesn’t necessarily mean the game is delayed. But yea lets just see; hopefully it does hit earlier in the year. Maybe I will be able to finish it by the end of 2023.
For some odd reason I thought this was coming in November, if it comes out around April or May that would be amazing and a huge surprise for me, hahaha.
Really looking forward to this. Not looking forward to not being able to sleep once it's out as I've got a second cleaning job that I do in the mornings. But meh. **insert 'let's effing go' meme here**
I think Starfield will get delayed to maybe July. As we have have so far Age of Empires 2 in January, Ghost Wire: Tokyo in March & Redfall potentially in May.
Great news. That said while we all want it asap I just hope they don't rush this, or any other games to hit the "first half of the year" deadline they set themselves at E3 last year. It would be better to delay it again a few months that release buggy.
Game Pass especially enables Day 1 play for so many that it's more important than ever to launch games in a fit state if that service is to keep growing.
Yessss. I’m looking forward to this more than any other game this year!
Excellent news, shaping up to be a phenomenal year for Xbox.
@Kaloudz Might sound outlandish, but I reckon this lands earlier and before Redfall's release in May. I'm guessing it's a March/April release but we'll see.
May is the month of zelda so I can't see it releasing then, so either April or June would be good.
Will I be eating humble pie on this one 😂
I hope so.
@Ashadelo I think 11th November 2022 was the original release date before they delayed it to first half of 2023. Maybe that's why you had November in mind?
Given Todd Howard's affinity towards day and month being the same number, and assuming it'll release on a Tuesday or a Friday, there are possibilities in March, April, May and June, if he wants to do that. I'll hedge my bets and say Tuesday 6th June for target release date. There's only two Fridays that fit the bill and they're 3rd March, which I think is too early but one can hope, and 5th May. There's also Tuesday 4th April.
Ehhh i wont believe it till its actually out. Its microsoft so anything they say should be taken with a grain of salt
Hopefully it launches in April! It’d have a rough time competing for my time against Zelda or Final Fantasy. I can’t wait for an update though! It’s time we see what we’ve waited for!
@UltimateOtaku91 rumors say Redfall is launching that month as well.
With at least 4 First Party games expected before E3 2023 and none looking to release in January (seems a bit late to announce a January release date), that is looking like almost 1 a month.
We have Starfield, Redfall, Forza Motorsport and Minecraft Legends releasing from MS studio's - as well as numerous 3rd Party releases too - Wo Long, Lies of P, Stalker 2, Flintlock, Ark 2 etc - also have some 'older' games expected like Goldeneye and AoE 2/4.
IF all of these are releasing before E3, that's quite a LOT considering January is looking quite quiet from 'Xbox' Studio releases. Therefore, its entirely possible we could see a 'couple' of games release in/around May.
Point is, MS stated these would all arrive in the first of 2023 and they could ALL release in June so still release in the first half. Ideally it would be better to spread them out and with quite a 'few' games to release, there are going to be several games I want to play releasing in the same month. That's just 'Xbox' games, let alone all the 3rd Party multi-platform releases and any Sony 'exclusive' I may want to play too...
@BAMozzy We already have a January release confirmed, Age of Empires 2 for console on January 31st.
@Grumblevolcano I was referring primarily to the 'new' games releasing from Xbox Studios, not 'older' games releasing for the 'first' time on Xbox Consoles.
As I said, we have '4' new games coming in the first half of 2023 from Xbox Studio's as well as 'numerous' 3rd Party developed games and 'older' games like Goldeneye and AoE 2/4 to release in the next 6months. Also I expect Ghostwire Tokyo to release on Xbox Consoles too in a similar way to Deathloop.
AoE 2 is an Old game and people can find out exactly what to expect, what the game-play offers etc because its a known quantity. At most, a trailer stating any 'upgrades' you might expect for an 'old' game releasing on 'new' hardware.
Point is, they have 4 'brand new', never released before on ANY platform games releasing somewhere between 'Feb' and 'June' because its too late to really announce a release date in January for these. They also have 'numerous' other games (one of which is AoE2 coming in January) to release in the next 6 months including 'older' games (games that have released on at least 1 platform previously - games like AoE 2/4, Ghostwire Tokyo, Goldeneye...) and 3rd Party partners (Stalker 2, Ark 2, Flintlock...) and 3rd Party multi-platform games (like Hogwarts, Lies of P, Atomic Heart, Star Wars Jedi Survivor etc) Just because they are not all 'exclusive' or on GP day 1, they can still impact on when games release.
You have all these games coming in the first half, so I doubt any calendar month will lack 'something' coming to Xbox/Game Pass for gamers to look forward to playing...
@mousieone 2nd May is locked in apparently for Redfall 🤷♂️
@Kaloudz The reason why I think that now is because if Redfall has been delayed to May, it makes sense to me it comes out a couple months after Starfield, 1) because Starfield I'm assuming will be more ready for release so can be bumped up the release schedule, and 2) because if it were to be done the other way around, I fear Redfall gets drowned out by the Starfield hype and could suffer an underwhelming launch (this may not happen but I think Redfalls launch would be better launching after Starfield, but again this is just me speculating). Redfall I would assume with it coming in May will be the final first party game from XGS prior to what you would think will be the E3 showcase in June (I guess another reason why I don't think Starfield follows on, I'm not sure if MS would want a game release the same month as the showcase, especially if said showcase is intended to be built around July 2023-June 2024 releases?), then we'll get the rundown on what we can expect to come out the next fiscal year. Regardless though of if I'm wrong or not, it's just exciting to see these big titles we saw just under a year ago now should be on track to come out during the first half as MS promised. Any further delays past June, God forbid it, would be unacceptable, but I'm confident MS will achieve this going off what sources have reported over the last couple days.
My prediction for the first half of Xbox's 2023 calendar, following this information is:
January: AOE 2 (Console Release)
February: Minecraft Legends
March: Ghostwire Tokyo, Halo Infinite Season 3
April: Forza Motorsport
May: Redfall
June: Starfield
My guesses for the beyond that are Hellblade II, a Gears of War collection (akin to MCC) and Contraband for the second half of 2023. Think Avowed will be Q1 2024 so it doesn't launch too close to Starfield, and Fable, Everwild and State of Decay 3 will round out the rest of 2024.
@Dezzy70 got room for one more at your dinner table. Seems i have some crow to eat myself. I’ll spilt half my crow with you for half your humble pie. Hahaha
@UltimateOtaku91
What does releasing Zelda have to do with the release of Starfield? Two games on completely different consoles and targeted to different audiences (action-adventure vs RPG). I doubt MS or Nintendo pay much attention to when each releases first party titles.
@NeoRatt agreed. The vast majority of both ecosystems will not have access to both games. Starfield will also be on gamepass for console and pc so it's not like they care too much about software sales figures anyways. I imagine it would do just fine against zelda and could even launch the same day to higher player counts.
Redfall being rumored for May would be much more likely to push Starfield out of May than zelda. I also don't think Todd Howard's numbers game is anything to worry about either. I don't imagine the feedback would go over well if we find out that they held an already delayed game for any amount of time because they wanted some cute release date.
At this point, I don't want to sound like a whining gamer. I just realized a few things - I'm healthy, I have a Series X, a Switch and a PS5 and it's a great time to be a gamer. When Starfield does release, it will most likely be epic. and I will be playing it, along with Redfall, Tears of the Kingdom, Spider Man and every other great game that comes out this year.
