The Xbox app has revealed today that four games are set to be removed from Xbox Game Pass in the late part of January 2023. Fortunately, there aren't any AAA titles in the bunch, although some fan favourite indie games such as Worms W.M.D and Donut County are on the chopping block.
It hasn't been confirmed yet, but we believe these games will be leaving the service on January 31st.
Update: The dates for these removals have now been announced by Microsoft.
Xbox Game Pass: Leaving Soon (January 31st, 2023)
Date | Game | Platform |
January 31 | Donut County | Console, PC, Cloud |
January 31 | Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master! | Console, PC |
January 31 | Telling Lies | Console, PC, Cloud |
January 31 | Worms W.M.D | Console, PC, Cloud |
As always, Xbox Game Pass members can get a discount of (at least) 20% on these titles before they're removed.
We're still waiting on more games to be announced for Xbox Game Pass in January 2023 as well, although the likes of Monster Hunter Rise, Persona 3 & 4 and Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition have already been confirmed.
Sad to see any of these leave Xbox Game Pass? Let us know down in the comments below.

What gives Microsoft. Where are all the announcements.
Wow they sure have been removing a lot lately without adding much.
@Deemo37 Like everyone else you will have to be patient and wait until the Developer Direct on the 25th.
I'm sure more games will be announced then. Shame that it's right at the end of the month as haven't had as many games as usual this month and December wasn't very good either.
My daughter is gonna be gutted that Donut County & that drum thing are leaving - I'll be happy to remove them 😄
@Clankylad Telling Lies is the worst of the 3 Sam Barlow FMV games imho, hardest to get into. But still very good IF it grabs you, there's little else like them.
Donut County was a fun few hours.
@Cyberpsycho I honestly forgot about the direct.
Also I everyone here should try Donut County. It’s extremely short probably like 2 hours and really charming.
@Kaloudz
In the next couple days Persona 4 and Persona 3 are being added, as well as Monster Hunter Rise day n date(all three day n date actually).
I personally would much rather have few less games if they are going to be at a higher quality like these titles compared to the normal months content.
I agree it does feel like it has been way too long compared to what we are used to getting from XGP. But once Persona is drops in a day or so, the Direct will be here before we know it, and I feel pretty confident that they will announce some ***** for the very end of the month/start of next month
I can't wait until Atomic Heart, I couldn't believe all of the hate it was getting in the comments here on the article showing some game play here recently.
Y'all are tripping whoever was talking trash, it's gonna be one of the best XGP games this year imo
Donut County is worth spending a few hours to complete. I found it quite nostalgic for my early 20s so probs good for millenials. Nice coming of age story
See I know some people would be happy if we just got one drop a month of AAA games and that was it, with us losing more in indie games each month - but definitely not me.
I'm now a convert to indie / AA games - I'll still play many of the big games but Game Pass has got me to try and love so many games I otherwise wouldn't have tried.
So really hoping the showcase has a drop of an AAA game and a few indies, and that this month isn't a new approach - as I'd probably reconsider staying subscribed all the time and just sub every now and then for a particular game I want to play...
Donut County is a super fun puzzle game. Sort of like Katamari, but you control a hole in the ground, and the more you swallow up the bigger the hole gets, and so you can fit larger things.
It's short and sweet so there's still a chance to play it.
I tried Telling Lies before Xmas after playing and enjoying Immortality. I couldn't really get into TL though, it seemed a bit more obtuse than Immortality. I don't think I really had the patience for it. Maybe if it was for game club, I'd have been able to give it a better go with all the support, tips and experiences of the community.
@Deemo37
Seconded. Donut County is really enjoyable. I only started playing it for easy Achievements but kept going and completed it.
@SplooshDmg I am. Taiko 😓 but I agree about the track list. It’s subpar ;/
@Kaloudz It doesn't work for a sub service. Surely the idea is to have a spread of titles that will appeal to a broad base?
I've played persona 3 and 4 and have no desire to play them again.
I'm not even really into Monster Hunter either, but I'd better give a rise a go, as its the only thing on offer! I think this is bad showing from MS and if I were subbing monthly I would not bothered for the last couple of months (Lego was a good drop, but one I owned anyway).
It may not be a popular opinion, but I think Game Pass is getting much worse than it was...I guess opinions will vary according to what you like to play.
C'mon MS, when you are clearly unable to deliver any first parties, at least keep your sub service top of the pile! What's happened to them?
@Kaloudz I always meant to play moonlighter. I'm normally turned of by pixel art, but I've heard good things on that game so I really should play it! Maybe now's my chance - though I have to say, I'm pretty involved in 'Judgement' right now
...and yes I'll try risen. Be rude not to!
I had Telling Lies on my list because of Immortality, but I cannot play everything, just not enough time. I've played Donut County and own on another system.
I recently started The Ascent. I'm starting to worry, I think it is coming up on a year and I am slow at completions...
I'm looking forward to Inkul... and Atomic Heart. Realistically, I don't have time to play more, but I would love to see a few more indies added. I'm holding out hope that Rogue Legacy 2 (or even 1) or that Lamb game whose name eludes me (lamb of god?) could come to GP someday. There are bunch like that, old and new, I'd love to check out
@Clankylad Can't wait to see Rutter in action against Brentford.. MOT
I've only recently started playing worms wmd to capture some distant memories of the original titles and have been really enjoying some games with my friend. Very disappointed to see it is leaving but I guess it will be cheap somewhere soon enough
Both telling lies and donut county are well worth playing through. Some easy achievements to be had too.
@SplooshDmg sorry back. So the new Switch one is supposed to have a surpass for new tracks. I feel like ultimately that will be the definitive version.
A lot more going out than coming in.
That's gonna be the state of subscribers too if this trend continues.
