Re: Octopath Traveler 2's Glowing Reviews Make The Xbox Situation Even More Painful

UltimateOtaku91

@Moonglow Nintendo are another platform that take sales away from playstation by having the same games, in this case octopath traveler 2 in which will sell better on nintendo consoles whereas Sony would get more money from sales if it was not on nintendo consoles.

Hence making Nintendo Sony's Competitor. Just because sony have a more powerful console means nothing, they are both operating in the console market, both in the NPD sales for consoles and software, both paying third party publishers for exclusive software and timed deals to better each other. They are in competition.

Re: Octopath Traveler 2's Glowing Reviews Make The Xbox Situation Even More Painful

UltimateOtaku91

@uptownsoul exactly! It would make sense for Sony to pay to keep it off Nintendo as this game is a jrpg and its main market is Japan and their only rival in Japan is Nintendo. Whilst in the west there's no need to pay for smaller jrpgs as playstation is the main platform for those anyway.

And then there's the situation with Octopath Traveler 1 which didn't even release on playstation but came to xbox, then there's outriders and dragon quest 11s which arrived on gamepass day one. Just seems like some people have an obsession with hating sony.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Launches Enable 'Secure Success', Says Indie Publisher

UltimateOtaku91

@Sebatrox Tbf look whats happening to ubisoft, their games are underperforming, games always on sale for some reason, they are cancelling games, shutting down multiplayer games that haven't been on the market long, they are recording £500 million losses this fiscal year.

Now obviously that isn't all to do with ubisoft+ it's mainly because people know their games go dirt cheap soon after release so why buy day one, but it would be interesting to know how much impact its having on their revenue compared to before they had ubisoft+.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Launches Enable 'Secure Success', Says Indie Publisher

UltimateOtaku91

@pip_muzz also I'm not saying plague tale isn't a good game because its an excellent game, but it's not a AAA game that would draw a boat load of people to gamepass, last I heard it has had over 1 million players but that includes on other systems and on a service with 25 million subs. What Microsoft needs to add are games like Assassins Creed, Hogwarts Legacy, Dying Light, Witcher etc those kind of big games day one. I'm sure more people would join, people would pay more for their sub, and silence the critics.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Launches Enable 'Secure Success', Says Indie Publisher

UltimateOtaku91

Key word being "indie"

Where's the AAA devs saying this? The main complaint about gamepass is about it being full of indies, which to some people would be fine but to the majority they want to play AAA games as well. Even if it means bumping up the price of gamepass Microsoft should get out the cheque book and get some AAA games on the service that aren't already years old.

Only one big third party game has launched day one so far for me and that was outriders which square say failed to turn a profit for them.

Edit: I would include MLB the show as that's a huge seller and I'd wager people subscribe to gamepass for that alone.

Re: Microsoft Says Xbox Game Pass 'Creates Another Option' For Devs To Make Money

UltimateOtaku91

@uptownsoul Gamepass also isn't worth it for big third party AAA games, take Elden Ring which probably sold around 5 million copies on xbox, that's £50-£60 each copy sold physical/digital, that's a revenue of £250 million for elden ring, would Microsoft pay anywhere near that to include them on gamepass? They spend less than that on their own big AAA games like halo etc and there's a reason gamepass gets labelled as indiepass and tbh that will never change apart from Microsofts own games in which even they at some point will start feeling its not worth it and will 100% raise the price after the Activision deal. At first Microsoft wanted the subscription service to be an option and bring in more people, but now it's got to a point where pretty much 80% (if not more) of xbox owners have gamepass they are now getting less from game sales, so they will have to balance that out in some way.

Re: Microsoft Says Xbox Game Pass 'Creates Another Option' For Devs To Make Money

UltimateOtaku91

For developers, that means creating another option for how they monetise their games.

Yes they are adding another option to get money, but that option also makes the other options bring in less money in which making their overall profit for that game less in the long run. It only makes sense for big third party AAA games to get added 1-2 years later once sales have hit a stop.

Imagine if elden ring was included in gamepass and playstation plus day one, would the upfront payment from Sony and Microsoft be more than the money from the 15+ million copies sold across those consoles? The answer is no.

For indies it's different as they are less popular and these subscriptions help gain some attention, imagine how popular stray would of been without playstation plus or high on life without gamepass. Also multiplayer indies also benefit from subscriptions as their survival counts on high player counts and MTX, something they wouldn't get enough of by just having the game for sale only.

Also just a thought but maybe its better for smaller developers to put their games onto gamepass but not onto playstation plus. We all know that over the last two generations put together playstation have outsold xbox to around 3:1. So for example let's say a developer has around 120 million playstation players to sell to and 40 million xbox players to sell to they would most likely make more money from Microsofts upfront payment as theres less potential buyers, whereas on playstation it would be the complete opposite.

Re: Activision Blizzard Thinks Sony's 'The Last Of Us' Can Help Justify The Xbox Acquisition

UltimateOtaku91

@Trmn8r But it's a different market, Sony are worried about the gaming market not the TV and Entertainment market, and the Activision deal is for the gaming market so I dotn get why she's bringing up tv shows.

A lot of the people watching the show probably don't even own a playstation and probably won't buy one either after watching this, and overall the percentage sony will get off this show and the sales increase to its last of us games won't come any where near the revenue they make off call of duty in just one year.

Re: Activision Blizzard Thinks Sony's 'The Last Of Us' Can Help Justify The Xbox Acquisition

UltimateOtaku91

Lol this just stinks of desperation and she shouldn't really be saying stuff like this about TV shows which aren't even made by sony and which have nothing to do with playstations gaming market share if they were to lose Activision's games, makes no difference, even Microsoft has a TV show of one of their popular series as well so I don't get what her point is, this just gives her a bad look.

Its like saying we can have the biggest publisher around for 70 billion because you have a hit TV show 😑

Re: MLB The Show 23 Launches Day One On Xbox Game Pass This March

UltimateOtaku91

Either way sony either gets money from sales, gets money from Microsofts lump payment for GP and gets money from Microtransactions from all platforms. So sony aren't losing on this situation although I think they should ditch the license and get their Studio to make a different game, or make it a live service game and keep a small portion of the studio regularly updating it and the rest of the studio make a different game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 28-29)

UltimateOtaku91

On PS5 i will be playing Forspoken and Star Ocean The Divine Force, the latter is underrated and my favourite star ocean so far.

On the switch I will be playing Fire Emblem Engage and Bayonetta 3.

And on the Series S I will continue with Cyberpunk 2077 and might give Hi-fi Rush a try. I also have been invited to a Technical Test of Skull and Bones for this weekend by ubisoft, I've signed the NDA and chose the xbox version so I might give that a go.

Re: GoldenEye 007 Xbox Vs. Switch Comparison Reveals Subtle Differences Between The Two

UltimateOtaku91

@OskarRex @EVIL-C you're right it was the film that came out in 95 😅.

Didn't know this blue fog was an aspect of old games, I thought it was something to do with the switch version but looking on YouTube there's a few games that had this blue fog back in the day, so I'd guess the switch version is more faithful to the original and would be the better choice for those looking for some nostalgia.

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade January's Xbox Developer Direct?

UltimateOtaku91

I rated it a B.

Minecraft and Forza motorsport don't interest me so that's a huge chunk of the show that I skipped. Redfall on the other hand looked amazing and I can't wait for that, going to be busy in May with zelda as well. The game from tango also looked really good and will be playing that over the upcoming weekend. Only disappointment is that no big games for me until May from xbox.

Re: GoldenEye 007 Officially Arrives On Xbox Game Pass This Week

UltimateOtaku91

Good for those who like classic games but this isn't for me, I prefer more modern visuals and don't like the idea of spending hundreds on new consoles to play games from 20+ years ago.

Now if this was remade then that's a different story, I'd deffo be up for playing that, though I don't know who would be able to greenlight that? Xbox, Nintendo or Amazon (who own the 007 brand now)
