Update: Well, this leak was correct! Hi-Fi RUSH is out right now on Xbox Game Pass!
Original story: Just over 24 hours before the Xbox Developer Direct January 2023 event, the next game from Japanese developer Tango Gameworks appears to have leaked, and it sounds like it's going to be revealed very soon.
The game is apparently known as Hi-Fi RUSH, which is a name that's cropped up a couple of times lately as part of the rumour mill. According to reliable leaker billbil-kun, we could be seeing it as soon as this Wednesday:
If you weren't aware, Tango Gameworks is the developer behind the two Evil Within games and Ghostwire: Tokyo, and is part of the ZeniMax Media group, which itself is part of Xbox Game Studios.
That means we're looking at a potential new first-party Xbox release for 2023 here, so we're very interested to see if it crops up at the Xbox Developer Direct this week — although Xbox's Aaron Greenberg has warned fans to keep their expectations in check for the event, so perhaps we might be waiting a little longer..
Excited to hear more about the next Tango Gameworks project? Tell us down in the comments below.

As always leaks just ruin things. Doesn’t really benefit anyone. Interesting to see when this will be properly revealed but other than that, I really don’t see the need for leaks.
It would be weird if they show it tomorrow, Xbox execs saying we're transparent, and these are the 4 games we're gonna show, keep your expectations in check, and then drop a new one.... idk.
@TheSilverFalcon Since Xbox execs are basically Geoff Keighley-esque in their communication, I wouldn’t be surprised if they said that as a misdirection and then people will praise them for being more generous than they said they were going to be initially. Xbox is inconsistent with how they do marketing events, so we won’t know until tomorrow what the Developer_Direct is. It could be a deep dive on four games and nothing else or it could be a little different than what they’re telling us to expect. Personally, I hope it’s different. They did tell us “there may be surprises.” But those surprises could also be directly from those four games. We shall see.
Jeff grubb has mentioned last week that the game from Tango would be announced soon. I believe he said it would be a smaller project (like Pentiment)
this is Potential f2p.
purexbox hasnt said Zenimax also trademarked it for phones.
It is probably too early to announce it on Direct tomorrow. My thinking was that the whole point of Direct was to show off "near complete" stuff. But I might be wrong (I don't care for early in development, CGI trailer stuff either way).
Looking forward to Forza and Redfall though.
@stvevan if its for mobile then all hype has just gone out the window. Expectations lowered.
@UltimateOtaku91 not guaranteed. but its meant to be a small game, and imo terrible mobile like name.
guess we find out soon
@stvevan ah I see I thought you said Zenimax trademarked it for mobile in your first comment
@stvevan But there's standard and deluxe versions, surely those won't be free??
@TheSilverFalcon I do agree, but I think an earlier statement was issued to the effect that the programme length was subject to ongoing change with additions that would be made to the programme (at the time it was confirmed the showcase was tracking at like 43 minutes), so it was never not a possibility. It just clashes with that most recent statement that you've alluded to, mixed messages have definitely been sent by Xbox. It can only be good that they're adding to the show though.
I'm personally tired of announcements of games we don't know when we will ever see.
@UltimateOtaku91 @stvevan there are two potential games types it’s supposed to be. A) Sci-Fi BR of b) a Jet Set Radio inspired game. Given the leaker said there are standard and deluxe version; I can’t see it being F2P. And BRs that aren’t F2P don’t do well.
@iplaygamesnstuff supposedly the game is far enough in development it will release this year.
This is intriguing. It doesn't sound like horror and all Tango has done so far is horror, so I'm interested already.
@Sebatrox I’m really excited for this game to come to GP I think it looks awesome. Hopefully it will get more love on Xbox than it did on PS
I'm surprised to see another game from Tango being announced so soon. As a big fan of Evil Within 1 & 2 and Ghostwire Tokyo, I'm excited to see anything they have to show!
Now hurry up and release Ghostwire Tokyo on Game Pass, so I have an excuse to play it again on my Series X!
@mousieone I heard the rumour about it being like Jet Set, but I never really put much stock into that rumour. Out of the 2 rumours you've highlighted, it's the one I prefer by a country mile, but at this point I'm just going to let Tango take me on a ride with this one. Can't wait to see what it actually is!
@DTfeartheBEARD Surely there'll be a console launch trailer tomorrow, there isn't better timing for it. Here's hoping! 🤞
@OM1993, a shadow drop would be nice! Ghostwire definitely didn't get enough love on PS5 as I hoped it would. It's such a good game that more people should experience!
@DTfeartheBEARD As much as that'd be amazing, it obviously can't happen as it still has 2 months to run on it's exclusivity deal on PS. An announcement trailer stating release on March 25th, in the same vein they announced Deathloop at TGS, will be the best thing we can hope for.
I really hope Tango get to continue with The Evil Within. The second game ended up being one of my favourites of the generation.
@K1LLEGAL 100% agree. Tired of seeing "X game has been leaked" everytime I go on Twitter. It's nice to watch a Games Showcase and see First-Party Xbox games I've never heard of before. Now, everything seems to be known, and if it isn't it's almost certainly leaked before the showcase (looking at you Jeff Grubb)...
Very glad I missed this article. Lol
