Microsoft and Bethesda have announced that Redfall, the upcoming vampire slaying shooter from Arkane Studios, hits Xbox Series X and S on May 2nd, 2023. As usual, the title will be available day one for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
The grand reveal arrived during Xbox's first ever Developer Direct showcase, which delivered a huge new look at Redfall via the above gameplay deep dive. The event also featured Forza Motorsport and Minecraft Legends, along with a few other Xbox titles including the day one shadow drop of Hi-Fi RUSH!
Anyway, back to Redfall. Arkane says this is their biggest game to date, featuring the dense open world "island town of Redfall" - a town that happens to be teeming with big bad vampire lads, all the way up to the game's "vampire god" boss enemies. Sounds spooky.
Here's a fresh introduction to Redfall, straight from the team at Arkane:
"Danger lurks around every corner and it’s up to you to clean up the streets. Take on a variety of missions throughout the world and face down terrifying vampire underbosses to make the town a little safer for the survivors.
While you’re busy being the friendly neighborhood vampire hunter, you’ll also be gathering intel about the mysteries surrounding the island and its new vampire overlords — intel that will eventually lead you to the vampire gods controlling everything…"

This game looks incredible, genuinely really excited to play it. I really hope it holds up!
ARKANE. DOES. NOT. MISS!
This is easily my most anticipated game of the year. My goodness, it looks absolutely incredible. I love Arkane.
Anyone else catch the arcade cabinet for "Immersive Kim"? 😂 Genius
I have to say , this has climbed up my wanted list after that showing. Im now looking forward to May 2nd with anticipation.
Arkane have seem to have done it again
Looking forward to Redfall.
@Kaloudz Man, I share your enthusiasm: I'm a long time Arkane fan, having finished Dishonored on the 360, XONE and downloading it today on my Series S! When May comes, I hope we can slay some blood suckers together!
this should have been the first reveal of the game instead of the early focus on the co op aspect.
with this SP demo i'm actually interested in the game. this is what people wanted in the first place. very different vibe compared to the reveal in a positive way.
@Kaloudz I love your excitement, so feel free to keep it up. The game does look fantastic, and I’m glad this showcase has seemingly changed the opinions of many!
This is the one I'm really excited for.
@Kaloudz Man, after watching the video more carefully now, I'm even more into it, especially because they've said that everything has been hand-crafted - I've been getting tired of the procedurally-generated trend.
Also, speculation time: do you think this world is the same one from Dishonored and Deathloop, perhaps the future?
Game looks absolutely amazing, I can't wait for May 2nd..
Game looks amazing and this has just shot past starfield as my most anticipated xbox game.
Looks better than the original cringeworthy CGI trailer made it out to be but still not my type of thing.
Great showcase. It looks both familiar and new in its own wonderful Arkane way. May suddenly can’t come soon enough.
Hi there fellow gamers;
Man Arkane is such a talented game studio.
It´s one gem after the next, after the next.
Dishonored, Prey, Dishonored 2, Deathloop and now Redfall
Been playing Arkane games ever since their first game and loving every second of their amazing level design, crazy powers and weapons as well a some cool characters and interesting stories.
I cannot wait for to play Redfall on May 2nd, explore the game world and slay all the vampires in my path.
Cheers, stay safe folks and happy gaming to us all
This looks much better than I ever expected. I get what they mean with it being sort of like a Far Cry style co-op experience now. Typically, that’d make me a little iffy on it, but seeing the level of detail here, I think a Far Cry-esque gameplay loop mixed with Arkane sensibilities actually sounds great. Pleasantly surprised.
Looks amazing so much better than what i was expecting can't wait for this
I'll have to check it out in between TotK.
Maybe my eyes are bad or something but it looks like there was a graphical downgrade especially on the character models and effects.
This game is £69.99 on the Xbox store.
£99.99 for the deluxe edition?
How is this pricing even acceptable? This is 90's N64 cartridge level prices for a digital product.
Are we as the consumer even seeing this increased cost in terms of quality? Not really. Every AAA game that releases these days is a buggy mess, incomplete, content ripped out sold back to you as DLC or a season pass. Nobody asked for games to take 6 years to make, 600+ staff and the end result is a product that isn't any better than stuff from the 360 era.
I will NEVER pay £70 for a digital game.
@Kaloudz Agreed this looked really good, finally. I still have a few big questions e.g.
How does it scale between single and multi-player?
This is a huge problem for optional co-op games like Borderlands, usually they work far better in one than the other. How are the devs managing this.
Can we swap characters in single player to use all skills or are we locked? Each character has wildly different powers, can we switch it up to keep it fresh (e.g. at home bases) or are we locked to one for the whole game?
Visually this is a real mixed bag - some areas look decent. Some look completely void of shadows resulting in a more washed out look.
Gameplay wise looks inconsistent too. the ability to approach things how you like is welcome. But the AI looks as basic as it can…transforming vampires into nothing more than bullet sponge zombies. And why are there vampire hordes?…this was expected but still disappointing that they haven’t used vampires in a more clever way, playing on personality and trickery. Though that would ask the game to be more story focused I guess.
So yeah, mixed showing for me…but then I’ve been pretty unsure of this from the very start.
I guess we’ll wait and see. Unfortunately for MS games can’t just be judged on them being on gamepass now when they’re pricing them at £70 too. Hopefully this will result in more quality control in their output.
@Kaloudz Yup. In Deathloop there's a clear reference, from an antique (by the end of the game) that is definitely from Dishonored. Finish the game and you'll notice clearly what I'm talking about, but I won't spoil it for you!
Hang on! I just found out this game is a bit like State Of Decay with bases and ai characters! Well in that case I’ll definitely give it a blast!
I nodded off during the Redfall presentation, I’ll have to rewatch it.
My physical pre order is locked in. This has been my most anticipated game for this year since it got unveiled. Fell in love with it even more yesterday. Cannot wait!
@dreadful £54.95 for standard on The Game Collection if you have an XSX and like your physical copies 😊
@Kaloudz Bro, about Deathloop, let me share a few thoughts that may increase your fun:
Sorry for the long reply, but I really enjoyed the game, so if I can help you find some good entertainment with it, I'll be glad, friend.
@Kaloudz At your service, brother! It's nothing. I've seen some of your comments, and you seem a pretty cool guy!
Hey, I'm busy during weekdays, but I'm playing MH Rise, especially during weekends. Add me up as a friend on Xbox Live, man: OldgamerDM - it will be useful when we get to hunt vampire fools in May too.
By the way, there are some decent fellows here, and I'm reasonably new around, so I haven't seen where their gamertags are. Is there a place to share this, or invite people for some gameplay?
@Kaloudz Thanks, mate! I've been working hard these days, but there's always time for some gaming, especially in good company. Have a nice one, brother!
