Re: Another Xbox Console Exclusive Makes Its Way To PS5 Later This Month

FraserG

@CharlieChooChoo We're not trying to "drum up console wars". There's nothing in here that says "wah, wah, we're unhappy that PlayStation is getting our Xbox game".

We just wanted to share the news that an 10/10 Xbox exclusive (in our estimation) is also now heading over to another platform... it was interesting to us, so we thought it'd be interesting to others.

We'll take everyone's feedback into account for the future though.

Re: BG3 Dev Offers Workaround While Xbox Tries To Fix 'Unacceptable' Saving Issue

FraserG

@LuciaThicc The BG3 issue is pretty widespread, yeah. I see many reports per-day about it. It's obviously not happening to everyone, but it's happening enough to be a big problem for Xbox and Larian Studios.

It tends to happen in Football Manager when someone has played multiple seasons. If you look at some of the most recent FM reviews on the Xbox Store you'll see people talking about this same problem where their files are being deleted.

It's much rarer with Starfield, but there were quite a lot of reports about it back at launch. Since then, Microsoft seems to have fixed it for the vast majority of people, although it does still get mentioned occasionally.

The common trend here is that all of these games seem to use large save files, and Xbox's cloud saving system doesn't like it.

Re: BG3 Dev Offers Workaround While Xbox Tries To Fix 'Unacceptable' Saving Issue

FraserG

@LuciaThicc It has happened with more than 2 or 3 games.

Multiple versions of Football Manager Console, Wartales, Starfield, The Lamplighters League, and others.

It seems to be particularly bad in BG3, but it's definitely happened in a bunch of other games. I know that some of those less high profile ones like FM and Wartales have had major issues with it.

Re: Three Xbox Games We've Given 'Outstanding' 10/10 Scores To In 2023

FraserG

@Sakai I do understand what you mean, but this is a case where our reviewer wanted to give the game a 10/10 because that's the score they landed on based on their experience with the Xbox version.

The decision to hide that score was only because of the Microsoft-specific firmware issue that apparently has nothing to do with Larian Studios - and therefore it feels very harsh docking points for a bug that the developer appears to have zero control over.

If it was a different scenario and Larian Studios was 100% at fault, we'd have to think about the decision very differently. But Larian has stated that the problem is on Microsoft's end and the team at Xbox are the ones who are working on the problem.

Anyway, I do appreciate your feedback and your viewpoint on this, and we may just have to agree to disagree on this occasion!

Re: Three Xbox Games We've Given 'Outstanding' 10/10 Scores To In 2023

FraserG

@Sakai It might have been similar on PS5 but apparently this specific issue is on Microsoft's end, which is why the decision was made not to dock any points.

The idea isn't to protect a game or give it special treatment - we'd have happily given BG3 a 10/10 based on our review experience as we never ran into the deleted saves bug. Our reviewer (PJ) delivered me his score of 10/10 without any prior knowledge of this issue.

It was then my decision to hide the 10/10 score for now, as a means of communicating to our readers that they might run into the problem that Microsoft is still trying to fix.

Re: Three Xbox Games We've Given 'Outstanding' 10/10 Scores To In 2023

FraserG

@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah, I knew it'd be a controversial decision. There isn't a plan to dock any points (because as mentioned, it's an Xbox problem rather than a Larian Studios one), but the 10/10 just isn't being displayed until the issue has been fixed.

Basically, I don't want people to glance at the review, see a 10/10 score, and rush out to buy a game that is suffering from a major bug at the moment. It's a decision that was made to try and protect the reader in the interim while Microsoft works on a solution.

Re: These Five Games Are Finally Making Us Consider Ubisoft Plus On Xbox

FraserG

@Markatron84 Thanks for your feedback!

As far as I'm aware, there are no plans. It's an established style now that we've been using for years, as have various other outlets in the industry.

We do sometimes change it up though, such as with the Soapbox features which are specifically about personal experiences.

Re: Poll: What Is Your Xbox Game Of The Year For 2023?

FraserG

Hi folks! Just to reiterate, if there's a game you want to vote for that's not included in the poll (we can only put so many in there), please mention it in the comments and tell us how many points you would have given it! We WILL still count those votes.

Re: Xbox Countdown Sale 2023 Now Live, 1400+ Deals Included

FraserG

@MaccaMUFC I've noticed that on the website version of the Xbox Store, it's eliminating certain deals that I've found elsewhere. It's possible they're not all being listed properly yet (the sale doesn't officially go live until Friday).

For example, the website doesn't list Mass Effect Legendary Edition as being "On Sale", but it is. It's doing this with a whole bunch of games right now.

Re: PSA: Baldur's Gate 3 Has A Worrying Issue With Corrupted Saves On Xbox

FraserG

As mentioned in the article, this doesn't appear to be anything to do with the game specifically - it seems to be a conflict with the Xbox cloud saving system, which tends to cause problems when the save files for a game are particularly large.

@K1LLEGAL I can't say for sure, but I've seen people trying different strategies with their saves and still falling prey to it 😕
