Update: We've got a couple more to add to the list! FromSoftware has announced that two of its Xbox 360 titles will also be shutting their online servers in March of 2024. Here's more info about each of them:
Original story: As more and more games rely on online connectivity to fully function, a growing number of them inevitably have a certain 'shelf life' these days, and we now know of quite a few games closing their servers in 2024.
Not all of these will be completely unplayable after they close their servers — many have robust single-player modes too — but games such as Ubisoft's The Crew won't work at all beyond their shutdown date. It's unfortunate, but that's the way things are going now!
"The game will remain playable until March 31st, 2024, for all The Crew 1 owners. After this date, the servers will be shut down, which means that the game will not be accessible anymore on any platform..."
Anyway, here's the list of Xbox games we know are set to close down in 2024 - including specific dates:
- Assassin's Creed 2 - January 25
- Assassin's Creed Liberation HD - January 25
- Various F1 titles (F1 2011, F1 2012, F1 2013, F1 2014, F1 Race Stars) - March 21
- Madden NFL 20 - April 15
- Micro Machines World Series - March 21
- Rocket Arena - March 21
- The Crew - March 31
- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction - January 25
- WWE 2K22 - January 3
We also have the ongoing licensing situation surrounding Friday the 13th: The Game. Gun Media's online horror title will be delisted this year on December 31st, with the online servers then playable until "at least" December 31st, 2024. Of course, there are also going to be more games to add to this list as we progress through next year.
It's always unfortunate to see game servers shut down - we just hope the fans of these titles have squeezed in all the online play they can manage before their impending closure dates!
Will you miss any of these when they go offline? Drop your thoughts on these closures down below.

That's a real bummer on the loss of The Crew, and I think this is a perfect example of why I hate the concept of live service games. It's online features feel completely unnecessary, I think I hardly interacted with anyone despite having beat the game put a ton of time into it. That probably hits me harder than most because I always loved that game, and I thought it was a lot better than it's sequel. There is really nothing else quite like it, and it will be a shame to lose that amazing map it had.
Splinter Cell multi-player was really cool. With the loss of servers its the end of an era.
Heaven help me if I ever get personally invested, long-term in a Ubisoft game with online service. The worst part of this is the company acting like this is a perfectly normal way to operate when the community is still thriving. Come to think of it...I can't remember the last Ubisoft game I purchased...
Splinter cell will be completely unplayable like the crew or just the multiplayer?
Ubisoft should patch the crew to take out the live service part. Offline is so much to do and it would be a nice gesture to the players that have been supporting it by “renting” the license.
Live service games are utter *****. We play them all but this just happens when they get a brainfart and pull the plug.
Crew should be playable offline. Simple. Most people played it like an offline game. Are any others on the list becoming unplayable offline?
This is why you shouldn’t buy games that require an always online connection
@Stocksy they want you to buy their newer game I.e crew 2 or motorfest
@Stocksy As far as I know it's just The Crew and Rocket Arena that are becoming unplayable entirely.
@FraserG cheers mate. At least that’s something. That F1 kart game is actually half decent. I was 90% sure it was playable without internet connect but these days you never know.
@KillerBoy for sure. Doesn’t make it right. I won’t by the latest one even though it’s right up my street because it’ll vanish forever in a few years.
It’s just not cricket.
I know it’s a driving game not cricket.
This is why I hate live service games they are a curse and bad for the gaming industry the publishers just do not understand how bad it is people who defend live service games has the lowest IQ brain they have no idea how bad it is affecting online multiplayer gaming treating games as a service needs to go bye-bye permanently I had so many fun memories with Tom Clancy's splinter Cell conviction co-op mode including the crew was tons of fun on Xbox 360 Xbox One and PS4 version yes I own three physical copies of them including splinter Cell conviction so I will still have access to the single player campaign mode but they should make the crew campaign playable offline it makes no sense why it has to be played online the direction of online gaming is becoming worse than we thought this is why I am 100% against purchasing digital games because you do not own it you are actually renting it until the publisher decide to delist the game and make it unplayable you people need to go back to purchasing physical games I do not care how convenient it is to have a digital library the same thing can be done if you have a CD holder like I do it can hold up to 1000 CDs and I have hundreds of physical games between Xbox 360 PS3 Xbox One PS4 Xbox Series X PS5 and Nintendo Wii U they are still in perfect condition that's all I'm going to say.
As a deterrent to this kind of thing they need to be forced to by back all copies of a game on the shelf even the used ones. The only way this is going to change is if everyone that sells games files a class action lawsuit.
Damn, that sucks about The Crew, I actually enjoyed that one more then Crew 2.
The crew had it services up for almost 10 years... We're on the 3rd game. Anyone who is still playing it is far and few between. I could understand had the game been taken offline 5 years ago. But that game offers nothing that sequels didn't improve unless you want to play the boring story line they had.
I try to avoid Ubisoft in general but luckily I have none of these games.
I guess I don't understand why devs don't patch out the online items so games with solo content can continue to be enjoyed? I get the desire to "encourage" players to move on the newer games, but if you're always pissing off the same players they tend to shop elsewhere.
@Commander91_YT If you have a game digitally it doesn't matter if they delist it, I have a bunch of delisted games installed on my old Xbox One X. The only thing that matters is them taking away the servers from a game that requires an internet connection, and in that situation it doesn't matter if you got the game physically or digitally, it will be unplayable no matter what.
I'm sure some of those games could be patched to allow you to play them offline. The Crew is a good example. The Crew is a good game to play alone even though it is a online game.
@JayJ Same situation and sentiments
@Skedaddle Ah man not surprising really but I did purchase this game and it never hit very many highs
@Skedaddle yeah for a free games with gold addition it was pretty good
Thought it would be interesting to mention that F1 2010 servers have not been announced for shut down so they’re still going to be available. I’ve read people say they’re P2P so that’s the reason?
So we're berating Ubisoft for The Crew being online-only, but most people here were A-Okay with the new Forza being online-only which means it has the same fate?
@AverageGamer you are missing the point. NES games are 40 years old and people still play them. There is no need for the solo player mode to vanish
Hopefully dedicated members of the community wind up picking up the slack, like how a lot of ps3 Sony games that once had their servers shut off are coming back.
Yeah its sad to see some games stop funktion after some time.
@JayJ Completely agree, the 2nd at least kept the map,the 3rd aka Motorfest it's a complete disgrace...just another bad FH clone.
@Raw_Dawg Their lawyers already thought of this and the TOS prevents you from doing that unfortunately...
@JohnDoe1978 No, it doesn't. You need to play the game for that to take effect. As a seller you aren't playing the game. Although that brings up an interesting point. If a consumer for some reason had an unopened copy. They would be able to sue. TOS and EULA really aren't all that legal. You can't enter a legal contract with someone under the age of 18. Someone in California tried to use this to sue Nintendo but the judge decided to take it upon himself to rewrite the rule book.
