@Old_Man_Harper Not gonna lie..... I struggle against crews of any size with pvp. I'm always the one pointed directly into the wind on these occasions. Brigatines are still hard to get away from with their insane cross speeds.
@ShadowofTwilight You can certainly play Sea of Thieves alone. They recently added the "Safer Seas" mode where you can play alone on a server or just with a few friends on your boat. You'll play against all the PVE content with which there is plenty. However, a good bit of the cooler content is not available on safer seas and you'll need to play on the main servers with other crews to experience everything. The rewards are much greater on the "High Seas" with other players but so is the risk. Playing solo on the high seas is also certainly possible. Rare does what it can to assist solo players and small boats but a solo captained sloop fighting against a 4 man galleon is going to be a very challenging experience. All the "Tall Tales" which are lore heavy missions and puzzles can all be done safely solo now.
I really don't understand gamers some times. I think after a certain period of time, most games should go multiplatform. Why are you annoyed that someone else is playing a game that you yourself probably don't even play any longer. And the money they will spend on that game that is no longer on your playlist goes right back to Microsoft to pay for the games you DO want to play now. People claim that third party support will drop for xbox.... because xbox console sales might go down. Microsoft is poised to become the largest game publisher in the world soon. Every ecosystem will be sending cash to microsoft. Playstation and Nintendo. People have quickly forgotten that the issue was it was costing microsoft a fortune to pay for third party deals. "It costs microsoft way more than it costs sony to lock down content due to the difference in install base." That was true.
It becomes much less true when you use your competitors money to do it instead of your own. Gotta pay a fortune to insure a game comes to your platform? No problem. Just bill it to your competitors.
I don't have much tension for this event. I have the opposite.
@ZuneTattooGuy Right..... it's available on one console. so anyone considering picking up an xbox to play it now has a reason to maybe wait on that decision. It will come to ps5 after it leaves early access but some people don't like to wait. Now they will go ahead and wait.
Imagine all those people considering buying an xbox to play palworld. I'd imagine that number has plummeted since the latest drama. Xbox has to have to worst timing in the history of all companies.
Whelp.... lost my enthusiasm for Avowed now. Comparing it to the underwhelming (to me) Outer Worlds is dissappointing. This is likely an unpopular opinion. The outer worlds just felt "limited" for lack of a better term.
I played this a bit at launch. It's very well made and any planet coaster fans will be pleased. I became overwhelmed with centipedes and spiders overbreeding and remembering to micromanage birth control settings became onerous.
This game had me locked in all weekend. I've never played any pokemon games. This game is much like Ark. You're basically farming these Pals to work your base. Each one can do a different job around camp. You'll have a team of Pals that travel with you... and also a team of Pals that tend to the base needs. It's one of those games where you don't realize how much time is passing while you're playing it.
@eire-shabba It is basically Ark if you've played that. Except instead of dinosaurs, you have pokemon. You farm these "pals" to work your base. A lot of survival game elements.
@themightyant Fair point with not knowing the SOT lingo does make my post rather incoherant to someone who hasn't played for years. @abe_hikura explains it rather well. To a new player.... safer seas will be fantastic. To a long term player just wanting to be able to chill out in the world they've played in for years.... the cuts to the content is almost a bridge too far. A lot of the "cooler" additions to the game, for example, "the Sovereigns" are a single quick sell point for all loot. In the old days.... you would have to physically run each piece of loot to the specific vendor that wanted that loot. So you'd carry all your chests to the gold horder vendor, and all your skulls to the order of souls vendor, etc. The Sovereigns were introduced in one of the later seasons where you could pull your ship to their special dock... and unload everything rapidly via harpoon. You could then sell all that loot at that one vendor. What once would take you 30 minutes to accomplish... you could now do in 30 seconds. Safer Seas took that away. Now you have to run all your loot back to those vendors. For what reason? The Sovereigns are not pvp content.... sure, you can argue that being able to sell loot quickly helps during a pvp session... but why take it away when all it would do is be useful in a pve session? It's a punitive move. Reducing the gold and xp payouts makes sense for balancing pvp/pve loot reward.... but taking away the easy way to sell loot was simply a way to punish those players wanting to play on safer seas. Rare never wanted PVE servers and finally.... after we begged long and loudly enough...they reluctantly gave us the bare minimum.
It's a bittersweet addition to the game. It does give players something they have been begging for for over five years, however they really took a sledgehammer to the experience. They take away so much content that we have aquired over those five years if you choose to play on the safer seas. Reducing gold and experience earned to 30% of the normal take was fine. There should be a reward penalty for eliminating the pvp risk. If that was all you lost, it would have been a perfect addition to a game this late in its lifespan. But they removed so much more. I expect it was much easier to eliminate stuff than it would be to enable it on one crew servers. Taking away captaincy and the sovereigns eliminates most quality of life changes the game has implemented over the years. Losing world events, Athena faction, Mechant commodities, etc,. was all just too much. I've spent a ton of money on this game. I used to love buying ship sets and whatnot. Losing ship loadouts has eliminated that desire. Wish I could cash out my ancient coins.
It's a great game and I have enjoyed playing it but reading sentences like "Incredibly deep combat never grows old, even 100s of hours later" tell me that I do not really know what I am doing as I tend to do the same things over and over again in combat. I don't tend to mix it up... I'm always using the same things that worked last time.
@Raw_Dawg Thanks, I sure couldn't find it initially. Has this been on pc game pass for awhile? I probably only looked at the new releases on the day this was announced on xbox game pass.
I have never played a Gears game. No reason for it other than I missed the first one for some reason I don't remember. So each subsequent release I would tell myself, "oh, I still need to play the first one before I play this one." This has gone on for years.
This disappointing attempt to appease fans who have been begging for this feature since launch with half measures is a non starter for me. Choose to play on Safer Seas and basically give up all the quality of life updates in the past year. You lose captaincy, the sovereigns, Athena quests, and way too much else. They basically are saying "here are your PVE servers but we're gonna make them suck as hard as we can."
Reduced rep and reward is fine for pve servers. But taking away aspects of the main game is just lame. I wont be coming back. 1,618 hours is enough.
It's not banking. It's a paypal alternative. I'm willing to be patient and see where all the changes end up. Change was needed. I'm certainly not crazy enough to think his motive is to kill twitter to bring back slavery. I can't believe I read that in these comments. wtf.
@Markatron84 While I haven't heard this projector, historically projectors have pretty limited sound features. This being a "gaming" projector might be better than your standard workplace projector. You might be better off using a headset or something else for audio.
In my opinion... this is not good news for Sea of Thieves fans. Basically it feels like Rare is handing the game off to a lessor developer so they can focus on a game that hasn't exactly generated a ton of interest.
Not new... but Sea of Thieves... They have just continued to pump so much content into this game. If I had to pick a new game this year I loved it was Powerwash Simulator on steam. Hopefully that one will make it to xbox. so relaxing.
I honestly didn't have a problem with all the TV features... I liked watching tv and thought the hdmi in from the cable box was a great idea. I also didn't hate the kinect although I never played one game that required or benefitted from it. I basically used it for voice control. I was disappointed in having a less powerful console than sony.
