Today, we've had announcements of Grounded and Pentiment going to Nintendo Switch and PS5, as well as Hi-Fi RUSH heading to PlayStation 5, and now we also know that Sea Of Thieves will be hitting Sony's console on April 30th, 2024.
Just like Grounded, Sea of Thieves will support full crossplay when it arrives on PS5 in a few months' time, meaning everyone on Xbox One, Series X, Series S, PC, PS5 and Xbox Cloud Gaming will be able to set sail together.
This is the final of four first-party games that Xbox recently announced to be coming to other consoles, so we're not expecting any further announcements along these lines. Here's what Xbox had to say about today's PS5 reveal:
"Sea of Thieves, the shared world adventure game from Rare, will be coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30 – and will be available to wishlist by PlayStation 5 players starting tomorrow, February 22. Having built a passionate community of more than 35 million players from around the world, the support of cross play for Xbox, PlayStation and PC will allow players to experience epic pirate adventures with friends on more platforms."
What do you make of Sea of Thieves joining PlayStation? Let us know down in the comments below.

Wow, feels unreal to see a Rare game actually launch on PlayStation when there's never been one before.
Is Sea of Thieves worth picking up if you're not big on multiplayer games?
There’s nothing sacred these days.
Seems very real now and happening.
If all these four cross platform games reach and exceed Microsofts forecast I can see the flood gates opening a lot more and maybe even day one games and even the big AAA games one day which would very contesting.
But the accountants will crunch those numbers the loses and gains to big AAA day one releases cross platform and I can’t see the numbers being against it, mainly due to the current low Xbox console numbers and game pass drying up a bit.
Time will tell.
The sad thing is let’s says Xbox consoles and PC and game pass get day one on a big AAA. They they wait say 6 months to a year to release on other consoles the way it works nowadays with patches for gameplay, quality etc etc the 6 month or year later version will probably be better than the day one release and worth the wait and maybe the price less as well.
Excellent. Everyone good now?
@ShadowofTwilight I think so. They just added a "Safer Seas" where you can just play with your friends and not against other players. There is a lot of battling though with skelly ships and krakens. I highly recommend SOT. It's on of my favorite games especially with friends. I have a ton of fun solo but it can be a grind. Everything is just cosmetics which I like.
@Halucigens
Awesome, thanks for letting me know dude. I may pick it up then!
Was admitted hoping for a Switch release but I'll pick it up on PS5 for trophies.
@GeminiReign
I have an Xbox but it never really caught my eye until all the multiplatform rumours started lol.
@GeminiReign
I'm primarily a single player game which is why Xbox doesn't appeal to me as much as the other two platforms.
I'm definitely curious though about this one.
@GeminiReign
That's the same with me actually. My Series X is for Xbox & 360 games but nothing else now.
I don't like the Xbox controller that much so it's hard for me to use nowadays.
@GeminiReign
I think the Series X one is really good but I'm so used to the DualSense and Switch Pro-controller that I don't like using it all that much sadly.
@ShadowofTwilight You can certainly play Sea of Thieves alone. They recently added the "Safer Seas" mode where you can play alone on a server or just with a few friends on your boat. You'll play against all the PVE content with which there is plenty. However, a good bit of the cooler content is not available on safer seas and you'll need to play on the main servers with other crews to experience everything. The rewards are much greater on the "High Seas" with other players but so is the risk. Playing solo on the high seas is also certainly possible. Rare does what it can to assist solo players and small boats but a solo captained sloop fighting against a 4 man galleon is going to be a very challenging experience. All the "Tall Tales" which are lore heavy missions and puzzles can all be done safely solo now.
@taternuggets
It's really cool that it's crossplay as well, great that this feature is becoming more and more common now.

Xbox gives exclusives and publishers Skip Xbox what a great news for this platform. Phil and Sarah Bond World must be wonderful to live in.
@GeminiReign
If the accountants are happy we will definitely see more as Xbox are totally not reliant on console sales as that model doesn’t work for them sales wise.
Then again since this weekend we have shifted a good few series x and series s consoles which makes a change for this time of year being honest.
Not sure if it’s the news last week, the price at £409.99 or maybe Sony not releasing any big AAA until April 2025. But something has triggered it to get those sales that quick all of a sudden out of the norm and usual.
im just wondering how long till xbox games are released on ps and nintendo only a few months after day one now. this is not a good look and has me leaning towards playstation 6 when that time comes.
im betting the next gen xbox will be the last xbox console one way or another.
@GeminiReign
I know what you mean I think they did say sequels. Bit the internet turned that into all big AAA and Sony haven’t come out a said other wise.
Doesn’t surprise me they had a very good two first years a mild year 3 and the crash had to come at some point so it’s year 4 2024, especially as the GAAS game threw naughty dog of balance and the time and cost these big AAA take to produce nowadays.
This is great news. I've said it before that SoT is (before you all start) in my opinion the best Xbox exclusive game.
It does have to be played with friends or family to get the most out of it but I have never had so much laughter on a game before.
I will try my hardest to get my PS only friends to dip into this.
glad to see community games like grounded and sea of thieves going multiplatforms it can only help the longevity of those games and bring more players on board.
I've been with Xbox since the original.
Many exclusives have been pretty average, now they won't even be exclusive anymore. What's the point of my Series X now?
Delighted more people get to try out these games. Play games where you want and how you want. Happy gaming everyone and enjoy your passion 😀
@GeminiReign
I’m sure I remember just before or after the PS5 got announced one of the old Sony executives that had just left, maybe head of Europe stated that the new generation of consoles would have less big AAA games and exclusive ones due to future time and cost plans within the gaming industry and return on investment.
So he predicted that right.
For me this generation has been the worst as far back as I can remember, it’s not been that excitable as the older generations and big AAA games for sure.
During PS4, Xbox 360, Wii to name a few we had so many big games really top quality games.
I understand the games that were in the partners direct couldn’t have been talked about last week but it was silly for Phil to say he wasn’t going to mention the games because that would take away from big reveals coming. And then 6 days later the news drops with basically zero fan fare on Xbox’s part.
Should have just dropped a trailer after the presentation last Thursday.
Microsoft are pretty much weathering the storm from the whole ABK situation with the best response. These four games and the commitments they made are Microsoft's way of telling the FTC and CMA that, if they want to fix the competition, stop demanding the competition bow down to Sony.
I love how so many people are mad at MS now. I guess they forgot that Microssoft has always been a software company.
These games - of ALL the games in MS's catalogue, make the most sense to me. Grounded and Sea of Thieves are probably 'saturated' in the Xbox ecosystem and cannot 'grow' without increasing their Population - more people, more revenue, more 'growth'.
Pentiment & Hi-Fi Rush may not have recuperated a great deal of their development costs - releasing on Game Pass and perhaps not seeing enough 'sales' or bringing more people into Game Pass.
Grounded/Sea of Thieves are a bit like Helldivers 2 - games where the 'community' that are built up around playing socially is limiting the potential. Yes you can argue that maybe its better used to bring players into your 'ecosystem', but is it better for the gamers, the game itself and its long term support?
That's why we aren't seeing games like Starfield or Indiana Jones coming to PS5 - at least not whilst they are potential System/subscription sellers and as they don't/won't have an active 'online' community to 'grow', serve better as Exclusives.
As the ABK deal concluded that MS would 'lose' so much more revenue by taking CoD away from PS, which has a massive online community and would split 'friends/family' from playing together, same with Minecraft, I can totally understand why some games may not be 'exclusive'.
Sometimes it may well be better to have more people as Fans of a Microsoft IP than being 'exclusive' to a MS console...
@taternuggets I’ve always had a fun time fighting galleons with a solo sloop - you can outrun them by sailing directly into the wind (not something you could do in real life, obviously!) and try and lead them onto rocks. I always find the real danger is sloops with 2 crew members, so I give other sloops a wide berth.
@Old_Man_Harper Not gonna lie..... I struggle against crews of any size with pvp. I'm always the one pointed directly into the wind on these occasions. Brigatines are still hard to get away from with their insane cross speeds.
@taternuggets to be fair, I’ve never sunk a non-skelly ship when soloing, but I have left a couple on the rocks and on fire and sailed off chuckling…
