The big news in the social media world today is that Twitter has changed its logo to the letter "X" as part of a major rebranding effort, and the fact that it looks very similar to the Xbox Series X logo isn't lost on Xbox fans!
The Series X logo isn't seen all too often in Xbox's marketing materials, but it is included as part of the big "Optimized for Xbox Series X" banner, and it's clearly got a lot in common with Twitter's new design.
This was highlighted by The Verge's Tom Warren on the platform a few hours ago:
Xbox fans on Twitter have been having fun with this news all day, and some current and former members of Team Xbox including Major Nelson and Eden Marie have also been commenting on the new "X" design:
It's definitely a perplexing move from Twitter owner Elon Musk, but it's also conjured up a lot of buzz, so we doubt he'll care too much about some of the negative reactions! Welcome to a new era, folks...
If you're interested, here's an excerpt about the Twitter rebrand courtesy of CEO Linda Yaccarino:
"It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square."
"X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine."
What do you think about the similarities between the "X" and Xbox Series X logos? Tell us down below.

Why wait to sink slowly into obscurity, when you can just change your brand into an unrecognizable lot of nothing?
I don't use twitter, I don't like twitter, I will never touch twitter, and I will never understand why anyone actually ever has.
But even as a total outsider...WTF? Why would you rebrand a famous product with a famous logo with a recognizable color to a monochrome single letter? And then declare it an "audio, video, banking(?!?), marketplace??? And isn't Musk against AI??
This sounds like an April fools joke. He does know it's not April, right?
@NEStalgia I don't get this one either. But Facebook did the same thing.
I guess the logic is: there is dissatisfaction with the product - so change the name so the dum-dums are confused. Plus, he says he wants it more than just the text forum app. I guess if you want people to think of it as more than Twitter - you have to make it not Twitter.
I guess. That's as good of an explanation I can guess at.
The idea that I'd trust that hellsite for banking is ludicrous - and I say that as someone who is still using it (through gritted teeth) to keep an eye on the latest news (plus here of course!).
Once Threads sorts its feeds and trending stuff I'll probably give up on Twitter as it's just full of spam and Nazis (literally in too many cases!)
@NEStalgia Musk is not against AI, he is against “it moving forward too quickly”, which is simply code for “I want to get into AI but everyone else has a head-start so I want the government to put regulations to slow it down so I can establish a company and catch up”.
@Cashews Facebook only renamed the parent company, though, not the product. Technically it’s never a great idea to have a company named after your flagship product, because it becomes much harder to be taken seriously when you try to branch out or diversify your busyness models. Also risk catastrophic stock price drops if the flagship name product stars to show its age and die off. Like, imagine if Apple was named after the iPod.
I have about as much artistic flair as Tyson Fury has hair. But to me the Xbox one looks better by a mile.
@NEStalgia @Tharsman Elon Musk is a genius and by that I mean your typical genius type you would see on a TV show or a Movie. His brain is so overactive and his eccentricity that he moves into the space of making decisions that on paper seem bordering on being insane.
For every success he has there will be many failures. And those failures will fail really really hard
@Cashews Facebook is still Facebook, it's the parent company that is Meta, that makes sense with all their acquisitions.
X on the other hand is just awkward and way to kill off your brand awareness. He wants us to say X's (exes) instead of Tweets and didn't even have an answer for what to call retweets. It's half assed. I genuinely think Musk is doing everything he can to kill off Twitter and push people to Threads or elsewhere.
I like to imagine he has a $1 bet like in Trading Places.
@themightyant i really don't know ether. Or in Brewster's Millions where he has to lose everything to win the big pot. The big pot I guess is the push for the reinstating slavery or some other mastermind evil. What else could it be?
He's put the death knell on Twitter or X now by doing this!
@PartyMarty goofballs have been saying this at every single step he has taken. But the addicted, mindless masses - and the celebrities - and the companies - still can't stay off of his twitter/exes.
Honestly who the hell cares
@Cashews I guess I just hope one day it finally hits too crazy a limit and people do all give up on his wacky project
@Tharsman LOL....yeah....you're absolutely right...somehow I missed that one and I'm the most cynical person on Earth....
@Cashews Yeah....that's the best explanation...yet....it still doesn't make sense when the brand is so associated with the product...really such a weird idea...instead of tweeting, people will ex now? You no longer tweet....you don't read tweets. You ex and read exes on X. Though I suppose that's what half of the people on twitter did anyway. At least the "X" is shorthand for just hitting the "x" button on the browser and getting rid of it. Twitter for banking. This sounds like a totally great idea. Wait, it's not twitter, it's X. X banking. Maybe it's a crypto scheme. Strike that, it's definitely a crypto scheme.
@themightyant There's the fun that people will now be xing their ex on X.
Never before have I seen a brand go out of it's way by miles to destroy every ounce of brand awareness it has, let alone a top brand. Failure this hard makes Matrick look downright brand-forward!
That press release is a proper word salad
It's not banking. It's a paypal alternative. I'm willing to be patient and see where all the changes end up. Change was needed. I'm certainly not crazy enough to think his motive is to kill twitter to bring back slavery. I can't believe I read that in these comments. wtf.
@Dan1283 Microsoft’s lawyers might care.
Dude is bored and his brain trust dont know what to do with twitter.
Happy to see twitter going down I always disliked it.
No one is going to know what X is
@PartyMarty The only people I see truly concerned about twitter are those whose professional lives depend on it. But then have to try to get us to care because they are influencers and it does affect them. I do not care if those people live or die. It doesn't affect me.
I used Twitter when it first came out. I left after a week even with with all my friends calling me crazy. Obviously they were right on terms of it becoming a big thing but I never cared to go back. The one thing I probably would enjoy are the art hubs but otherwise, no thanks. When it comes to game stuff all I see are stereotype gamer vibes for the most part and I get enough of that on Reddit thx 😊
Muskrat is a moron. Twitter is dying. Almost party time. 🎉
X will be just fine.....people just can't accept that things change....everybody who needs to know that Twitter is know X already knows THAT, and that's even before the app update is available.
No one will be talking about the name change in a couple of months.
Nothing to see, move along
It's strange how people get so worked up about this. Why do influencers even write a tweet about how the website is "dying?" they can just retweet the one they wrote a year ago. It will be just fine.
I've never used Twitter and never will, same with Facebook and other mainstream apps. But I like Elon, a breath of fresh air in a broken world of easily controlled sheep.
Meh! Boring.... Why not TwitterX, or TwiX or.... something else.
Looks like the logo for a website selling high class escort services.
Why it's just "X"? Why not "Z" or "V" then? Why not "М" for "Musk"? Or maybe is it just a "cross" from PlayStation?
