Re: Xbox Lockhart Spotted Again In Official Dev Documentation

Menchi

@Ryall While I hope lockheart doesn't exist, if it's just a lower spec version of the same hardware, it might not affect too much.

For example, the same CPU just running slower clock speeds and a GPU with lower clockspeeds or CUs. Not low enough to force design changes. Think of it this way, both would be powerful enough to run next gen games, but the lockheart would be at low settings while the X would be high settings. All with the same game design intact.

Re: Project xCloud Will Be A Key Part Of Facebook Partnership, Suggests Microsoft

Menchi

I wonder if the new Xbox will have native facebook integration at this point. Mixer and related things to it were a constant eyesore on the xbox dashboard, so will that be replaced by facebook gaming versions on next gen?

Are we going to have to merge Xbox and facebook accounts (the latter of which I don't even have) to use certain features?

Re: Hellblade 2 Will Use Unreal Engine 5, Confirms Microsoft

Menchi

@mousieone I was pointing out a possible confirmation of release window since they hadn't previously said afaik.

And yes, I play multiplats on PC, but I have no interest in this game.

@GamingFan4Lyf In engine isn't the same as something actually running, even if it is a playable tech demo.

Re: Poll: Which Has Been Your Favourite Xbox Console To Date?

Menchi

The 360 slightly beats out the OG original Xbox 180. Both had great exclusive games but the 360 felt like it had more and higher quality games. That appealed to me anyway. Coupled with a great UI, eventually party chat and a bunch of other great features, it was easily the best of Xbox.

Sadly Xbox One has been a joke from the jump and the only redeeming things it has ever done was help birth Halo MCC and 2 or 3 formerly exclusive games. And select backwards compatibility with a few important games I like.

Re: We Have Not Pushed Any Events Back, Insists Xbox Exec

Menchi

Aaron has handled the Inside Xbox 20/20 thing terribly so far. I do want to paste a paragraph directly from the Xbox 20/20 website that is related to this.

Xbox 20/20

Starting with the May 7 episode of Inside Xbox, we will be showcasing what happens next in the world of Xbox, every month, which is why we’re calling it “Xbox 20/20.” These monthly moments will take place throughout the rest of the year and will be a way for us to engage, connect and celebrate with you about what’s in store for the next generation of gaming, including what’s next for Xbox Series X, Xbox Game Studios, Xbox Game Pass and Project xCloud. Every month will bring something different. Stay tuned to Xbox Wire for more details.

It specifically says "every month". Make what you will of that.

Re: Xbox Boss: "Our Strategy Is Centred Around The Player, Not The Device"

Menchi

@Tharsman That would be fantastic. Sadly in the current form it's linked to the Windows 10 Store for play anywhere, which is......well we all know the horror stories. And even though W10S/Xbox cross buy doesn't have any benefit to me when the games are available on Steam as well, I can definitely see it as a positive move for gamers.

This is why despite being a massive physical game and retro game guy, I've moved my "Xbox" game purchases to digital half way through this gen. PC purchases after all. If you told me in 2013 I wouldn't be buying physical Xbox games any more by the end of the gen, I'd have laughed.

Kinda surprised it hasn't been worked on in some form, since the Xbox games on Steam use Xbox Live and your Xbox account. Even Halo MCC on Steam automatically imports everything from my console version right away. Although we'd have to be careful.....it could prompt another GFWL thing all over again.

Re: Xbox Boss: "Our Strategy Is Centred Around The Player, Not The Device"

Menchi

@Tharsman This is pretty much what I said in my original comment, I'm glad someone else here noticed. OS and overhead aside, it's not enough to cripple current (let alone the brand new stuff about to release) top end PC hardware to below what XSX offers. Many people automatically took up arms as "he hates Xbox!" when I literally praised Phil's move from the article.

People's attachment to pieces of plastic worry me sometimes.

Re: Xbox Boss: "Our Strategy Is Centred Around The Player, Not The Device"

Menchi

@TheNewButler Actually it's not bait. The article literally was about Phil hyping up their players being able to play their games on their platform of choice. Not limited to just the one box. While I don't agree that a console should have no exclusives, I enjoy several microsoft franchises and I can play them, unfettered on my platform of choice.

And my current PC already beats next gen, let alone the new build I'm doing later this year.

Re: The Xbox App Has Begun Rolling Out Mod Support For PC Games

Menchi

It's good that they're moving away from the W10 store and UWP. Now allowing executeables. UWP versions of the games were vastly inferior and had many problems.

See Quantum Break and Rise Of The Tomb Raider on Steam compared to W10 store.
UWP didn't allow mods, which it even recognised SLI as a mod, so no multi GPU support. Not to mention the inferior performance of UWP based games.

It's good they're trying to bring their platform up to other store quality, instead of "only" releasing on both and calling it a day.

Re: Rare's Sea Of Thieves Is Already A Top Seller On Steam

Menchi

@StrangeBit Thankfully they are putting all games on Steam (as well as the W10 Store) day 1 going forward. After the disasters of Halo Wars 1 and 2, Gears Ultimate and Gears 4, they learned their lesson.

I personally can't wait for the MCC to be completed, an eventual Halo 5 port and of course, Halo Infinite, all on Steam.

Re: Xbox Game Studios Creating "The Biggest And Best Line Up Of Exclusives In Xbox History"

Menchi

@KelticDevil If playstation games come to PC like Horizon, they won't be exclusive either. Correct.

I hope more do come so they aren't marred with performance issues.

I see you are completely missing the point though so let me explain. The point is that no matter how much you enjoy, and how many others enjoy them, they're not exclusive. I love Halo and Gears and a few other titles, but regardless of everyone's enjoyment, they are not exclusive. If others can/cannot enjoy them means nothing to me, because that doesn't change them being non exclusive multiplats.

I realise being an "Xbox gamer" the last 7 years has been tough, but you might make it out alive.
