Sony might be working on a picture-in-picture multitasking feature for PS5, reminiscent of Xbox One's old Snap mode.
We're learning this courtesy of a Sony Interactive Entertainment patent published earlier this week (thanks TheGamePost), which outlines a feature that would display a sub-screen of sub-content that differs from the main screen. This could possibly include video, apps and game-specific features.
You can view one of the drawings included with the patent below:
In case you don't remember, Snap mode was a feature that allowed players to bring up videos, apps, settings and more via a second screen while playing games on Xbox One, but was removed in 2017 to "improve multitasking, reduce memory use, improve overall speed, and free up resources going forward."
Regardless of whether Sony decides to revive the feature in some way for PS5, would you like to see it return to Xbox Series X, or should the days of Snap mode remain in the past? Let us know your thoughts below.

Sony likes patenting others' stuff, remember PS Move?
Eh, I'll doubt they'll use it. Companies patent things all the time.
Yeah patents get placed all the time
On this subject I actually liked snap and would like it to return in a modified version.
Snap was awful and almost never worked right. I won't miss it on any platform, but if Sony at least make it work correctly, at least it gives the option to people.
@BlueOcean
Yea I forgot about PS Move. What a worthless, blatant cash grab attempt that was. 😂
I never used Snap & would never use it even if Xbox brought it back.
@KelticDevil I don't mind them copying others, it's quite normal, but patenting an Xbox One feature for possible use on PS5 made me 😂.
@BlueOcean
It’s Sony. What do you expect. They have copied Nintendo & Xbox for years.
Remember when the PS3 launched? It didn’t have trophies. And Xbox’s achievements were a huge hit. They then ripped that off.
And their online store was a complete joke. Then they saw what Xbox Live Arcade was doing & ripped that off too.
To be fair: free game’s with gold is a copy of a PS+ feature too. Everyone steals/borrows successful stuff (and apparently non successful stuff too) from each other.
You could argued MS obsession with trying to copy the Wii killer feature, even after the Wii lost its luster, was the main driver to XBox terrible stumble at the start of this current generation. At least Sony mostly sidelined Move (although still reused the tech with VR.)
@BlueOcean
You can't patent someone else's idea. They obviously have their own twist to it.
@KelticDevil
You could say the same thing about Kinect.
@tinCAT-zero
Not really. I hated Kinect, but at least it tried to advance the motion control gimmick & try something different.
PS Move was, literally, a complete copy & ripoff of the Wii remote. And then Sony got their Ponies to buy some of those stupid wands up when they sold them the bomb that is PSVR. 😂
@KelticDevil
Hilarious....!
@tinCAT-zero
Yea Sony makes me laugh too.
