I'd only be playing co-op campaign or warzone firefight (without an online sub, because PC) anyway.
The bigger take from this whole thing is how outright stupid it makes 343/Microsoft look after flat out saying no before. Piled on top of everything else they messed up lately, yikes.
@Medic_Alert My favourites were all the pictures captioned "oh nice homage, they even used the original geometry/textures!"
Push Square users hate me because they refuse to acknowledge that Sony money led to an inferior experience of a 3rd party game. The users praised Sony for locking it to PS4. The same users were also up in arms over Microsoft getting Yakuza 7 timed next gen exclusivity.
@BlueOcean I wish they would've just went with a next gen launch title. So many problems with that game.
This comment is made from how it benefits me, and not how I view the "Xbox brand" overall and what the practices are doing or perceived to be doing to it.
Halo 5 was the last Xbox One game I played because everything after that was on PC at the same time, thankfully. I love that Microsoft have been bringing their games to PC day and date (sometimes even 1st to PC, with Gears Tactics, etc) as I enjoy many of their games and I never have to worry about terrible console level performance and/or visuals.
I wish every console maker would do "their console + PC" as I hate playing a good game and it has low resolution or terrible frame rate or even the mess that was FF7R because of console limitations running out of texture memory.
Admittedly 1 was a guess, but I'm surprised as the show was so forgetable I couldn't tell you half the games that were shown without pictures or something to spur me on.
Microsoft have spent the best part of a year with "world's most powerful console, 4k this, 4k that, 12 TERAFLOPS!!!!" as their key selling point. And they headline their 1st party next gen showcase, with their flagship IP, looking significantly worse than some of Sony's last gen games on a console around 1/9th of the power, or the PC remasters of earlier games in the series (Halo MCC).
If I showed someone a close up of someone from TLOU2 or Ghosts Of Tsushima or some other recent Sony 1st party game and showed someone the close up of the brute from the end of the Halo Infinite trailer, which do you think they'd say is next gen.
@F3NIXII I'm sure the PC they used to show it off has a better SSD than the Series X. These demo and development PCs are top of the line to brute force the best possible showcase.
@mousieone I'll probably end up just getting one for them tbh. I can write it off as a business expense since I won't be playing on it for personal use.
@mousieone Sadly I bought the Xbox One at launch thinking the gen would be better going forward. Jokes on me I guess. I was dying for Dead Rising 3 at launch though.
The 4k/60 uploaded trailer helps,. but it's still nothing next gen looking. People have been posting comparisons all over the internet to MCC on PC and Infinite looks worse in almost every way.
@mousieone I actually have almost every mainstream console there is from the 3rd gen up. Because there were reasons to own them. Exclusive games. Since I have a better PC than Xbox Series X (and will have an even better one later this year when I rebuild), and can buy all the games on there, I have no need to waste the money.
But if what we saw yesterday is the best they can do with their flagship franchise, this isn't worth my time or money.
I was planning on getting an Xbox just for Youtube purposes because the viewers would like the small bit of comparative coverage.
But at this point after today I can't justify it. I was going to be playing everything on PC myself as it was, but the showcase really made it apparent I don't need the Xbox One X+1. Even the 4k trailer versions just weren't good enough.
It's not the hardware. At this point it's the talentless developers. I hate to make the comparison, but Sony has PS4 games looking better than next gen Xbox.
@Medic_Alert The drives with the speeds required for the PS5 are top of the line and therefore already very expensive. To change that into a proprietary media would make them cost even more.
As an example, the 1st drive that is PS5 compatible (it's actually faster than the PS5, which makea it compatible) is supposed to be launching next month and will be around the €500 mark for 2TB.
@sikthvash By comparison, Seagate is my preferred brand. I've used probably around 50 of their drives over the last 20 or so years, always recommended the brand to others and have never had a single issue or seen any recommendations die.
@zane547 I'm not even looking at it bigger picture style. I'm just sick of every 2nd article on every website being made into it when it may even have practically nothing to do with it.
This whole price reveal staring contest is so tedious. And that's coming from someone who gonna drop double or triple what both next gen consoles combined on a new PC soon.
@AJDarkstar And this time they're doing it correctly. I look forward to continuing to play Microsoft's multiplatform games on PC day and date going forward. It's you that hangs onto "what Xbox is" while everyone else moves on with what it has actually become.
@AJDarkstar Not really. Phil Spencer has literally said "Xbox is no longer just our console hardware". This is Xbox according to the head of Xbox and the changes he has made.
I wouldn't buy one despite my Xbox One being almost entirely digital. I have a few early physical games but when the deep sales hit I converted almost every game I keep installed and plan to play from all 3 gens to digital. All my Microsoft games are bought on PC for the last 5 years, as are all my 3rd party multiplats, Despite being pro physical media, my Xbox has become basically all digital outside of 2-3 BC games and a 4k bluray player. But the option for physical media is the important thing.
@Tharsman Probably also including PC users on 1st party games too since we play on Xbox Live, for free. Also access to profile, achievements, cloud saves, etc
I forgot gold was even a thing. As my last game played on Xbox One online was Halo 5 when it came out. Everything else from Microsoft has been on PC where Xbox Live is free and uses the same servers as the Xbox users are paying for.
I'm never a fan of console manufacturers buying a studio/game developer (outside of that studio about to be shut down but saved from a buyout) regardless of who it is.
As I've tried to educate people on "all TFLOPS are not created equal". The difference in CPU/GPU architecture will yield much better performance and improvements than incomparable numbers suggest.
Xbox Series S will outperform the Xbox One X versions of games easily. Despite less TFLOPS and slightly less RAM. GPU RAM becomes more efficient for older things as new architecture improves. A quick example:
When I first played Max Payne 3 on my GTX690 at 1080p, it used around 3.9gb of my VRAM to max everything for 60fps. Then using a GTX1080 at 1440p (approximately 77% more pixels than 1080p) and doubling the framerate to 120fps, maxed out would require about 2.4gb VRAM.
So despite the RAM and perceived TFLOP disparity of the X1X and XSS, the XSS will be significantly better in every way. Or at least it is capable of being better in every way, as long as Microsoft and whatever dev in question doesn't do it incorrectly.
That and the Jaguar and GCN have always been absolute garbage.

Wow, we're really getting this as a finished product. No wonder they're considered a joke.
Another generation going to Sony with how this upcoming gen has been mismanaged already.
Re: Microsoft Possibly Hints The Initiative Is Working On Multiple Games
Work on getting 1 good game out properly across any studio at this point before having them work on several in a single studio.
Re: Phantasy Star Online 2 Heads To Steam, Includes Crossplay With Xbox
Looking forward to it. After the disasterous launch on the w10 store, glad it will finally be rectified.
Re: Halo Infinite Dev Addresses Criticism Of The Game's Graphics
@Tharsman The resolution bump is noticeable, but there are still glaring quality issues that are arguably made worse by it.

E.
2 games I was interested in were shown.
1 added nothing really new so didn't change my opinion.
The other was Halo, which kills me that it looked so lackluster.

Re: Insignia Team Shares Footage Of Original Xbox Games Working Online
@KelticDevil Party chat really killed online gaming a lot. The OG Xbox days and even early 360 days had everyone talking in games.
Did they stop giving headsets with 360/Xbox One eventually? I haven't heard a person talk on Xbox in the wild in nearly a decade at this point.
