Microsoft has confirmed that Ninja Theory's Senua's Saga: Hellblade II will use Unreal Engine 5 on Xbox Series X. The company revealed the info via a new Xbox Wire post in which it detailed "everything you need to know about Xbox Series X and the future of Xbox... so far."
The bit that applies to Hellblade 2 can be found in the "most immersive and responsive games" section, which also notes that the power of the Xbox Series X was first demonstrated with an Announce Trailer for the game back at The Game Awards in December 2019, which you can see above.
"The team will be building the game on Unreal 5 and leveraging the power of Xbox Series X to bring the Hellblade franchise to levels never before seen. The footage shown was captured in-engine and reflects the power of Xbox Series X available to developers to deliver new universes, experiences and games in ways you have never imagined."
If you haven't read it yet, the full Xbox Wire article is a great recap on everything we know about Xbox Series X so far, highlighting the likes of Smart Delivery, backwards compatibility and those all-important tech specs.
As for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, we're hoping we'll get to see more of the game during Microsoft's big first-party Xbox Series X event in July. It has yet to receive a release date.

Wait!!! Unreal 5 isn’t exclusive to PlayStation?!! You’re kidding!!! 😂
So this confirms not a launch title then right? Since there aren't gonna be any UE5 games until at least early 2021?
@Menchi they never said it was launch title. I think Spencer even said it was Early in Development. Launch doesn’t really matter for you though right? You play everything on PC anyway...
The big question is 2021 or 2022. If its 2022 guessing we won't see it in July but who knows.
So if Hellblade 2 is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, and the Game Awards trailer was "in-engine", then that means we got the first look of Unreal Engine 5 during the Game Awards, and not from the Summer of Games presentation.
@mousieone I was pointing out a possible confirmation of release window since they hadn't previously said afaik.
And yes, I play multiplats on PC, but I have no interest in this game.
@GamingFan4Lyf In engine isn't the same as something actually running, even if it is a playable tech demo.
@Menchi Does that somehow devalue my statement that we got a first look at UE5 with this?! It was "in-engine", which means it was using UE5. Hence, we got a look at UE5.
@GamingFan4Lyf It helps clarify since not all "looks" are the same.
@Menchi yeah but Phil Spencer said, “Early in development” at the game awards. That sort of scratched off Launch at that time didn’t it ?
@mousieone I musta forgot that part.
@Iron-Ninja But Xbox don’t have any exclusives because they all release on PC too so therefore there’s no reason to own an Xbox. That’s the argument I get from non Xbox fans but I keep telling them I like the simplicity of gaming from my sofa and have no interest in setting up and upgrading PCs.
On topic, I can’t wait for Hellblade 2 it’s going to be so life-like with the UE5.
