complete waste of an hour.
C, I guess. Nothing particularly exciting, although Game Pass continues to be amazing, and The Medium looks cool.
D+, C at a stretch.
It wasn't an awful show, but it was overhyped for me, even taking into account pandemic has held some things back, I had hoped to see more gameplay of certain games that have likely been in development for a while.
Halo looked absolutely fantastic! Forza looked pretty but surprisingly seemed like it's no where near ready. Everything else was a pass for me. Also noticed it seemed quite a few weren't listed as coming to Xbox One which was strange.
I give it a C. Cool that everything is coming to Game Pass. Forza, Fable and Hellblade seem like they're a long way off. Little reason to get a Series X early now.
The Medium looked very exciting.
Disappointed at a lack of personal favourites (ie no Banjo, Conker, Cuphead etc)
Underwhelming. Halo infinite looked like an Xbox S game on 4K. Didn't even seem to have better grass, trees, explosions or something which would make it scream 12 Teraflops.
What a waste. This whole 'our first party games will be also playable on the last-gen consoles' proved to be a disastrous mistake, in my opinion.
That was... Underwhelming. The only real thing of interest to me was The Medium, which they already showed in May.
C
Halo looked fine but not mind blowing
The Medium looks very good as did Avowed
Fable announced but a nothing trailer
Too many existing games like Destiny 2, Ori and Tetris Effect
Not enough gameplay and nothing visually to rival Ratchet and Clank or Horizon Forbidden West or even The Last of Us 2 frankly
For me PS is still at the helm! Prove me wrong Xbox
Dissapointed. No reason to upgrade my Xbox one X. I'll play what's coming out on Gamepass on my current machine. Mostly cinematics with no gameplay for games other than Halo and games that will eventually be on other platforms.
I don't really understand the marketing plan either. I'd have thought they'd have wanted to go as big as possible to really make a splash in the mainstream media. It seems like they're always saying "and we've got even more to show later".. but when?!
I don't think there's anything here that's gonna make an article on the BBC for example, like the recent Sony showcase did.
I give it a C, but that is being generous. A pretty big waste of time if i'm honest. Halo looked really good, nice to have Fable again, but nothing of interest beyond that. I play Destiny, so New Light coming to GamePass is cool though.
B. They showed lots of games and great surprises but no Banjo-Kazooie, Conker or Perfect Dark... yet.
The most interesting thing is that many games are Series X exclusives and won't launch on Xbox One which means Xbox Game Studios are already focused on the new hardware. Many people feared that all games are designed with Xbox One in mind but we can rest assured that the new generation is coming already.
C. Nothing that made me say I need to purchase a Series X right away, but still had some good moments. Was very impressed with Halo and The Medium seems cool.
That was utter rubbish! What one game had gameplay, Halo, and even that had pop ins and stuttered. Then it was nothing but an hour long film, great to hear this and that will play 4K 60 or 120 with ray tracing, those words are utterly meaningless without the gameplay footage to back it up!
I would have loved to have seen some State Of Decay 2 gameplay but no.
For me the game quality just wasn’t there. And the near total lack of any gameplay is disgraceful. A mock drop is not a CGI film, it’s like when Sony show actual Ratchet and Clank gameplay..
I gave it a B. Halo infinite looked awesome. And I’m pumped for Grounded. Fables trailer looked gorgeous.
It was a great showcase but hard to see its potential because so much of it was new ip announcements. For all we know Avowed might have as high an impact as say an Elder Scrolls, but you can’t translate that into a teaser.
I’m a big state of decay 2 fan so I’ll definitely try 3.
A lot of console exclusive games though. I think what’s underrated is every single game shown (outside of Psychonauts 2 and Destiny/Oiter Worlds dlc) is exclusive. Whereas 2/3 of what Sony showed is coming to Xbox.
@BlueOcean I saw lots that didn't mention being on Xbox One but I didn't see any mind blowing visuals either, a lot of them didn't even match up with the best of this generation and just had a higher resolution
@Mckilmer Yeah your like me, noticed the endless ‘launch exclusives’ I.E. timed Xbox exclusive games.
Those who were disappointed... What would have made it an A/B for you? Specific games? More gameplay? Genuinely curious.
Underwhelming, expected more from Halo.
Don’t care about game pass. Not enough of Fable was shown. Sorry no preorder series x for me.
After watching it, I've learned is that if I was to get a series X, all I'd need is a digital only version and Gamepass. If never have to buy a game!
I can't work out if that's good for all parties involved or not.
I gave it a C, I wasn’t that impressed with the whole showcase. The stream was stuttering throughout now and again, it wasn’t bad but was still annoying. It also seemed 80% of the games shown were CGI trailers and not gameplay which I was expecting more of the way the showcase was being hyped up.
We can’t judge how games like Halo Infinite looked and played from a 1080p/30fps stream until we play them on the Series X, it’s going to look vastly different. I thought it looked good enough even from that stream, you can see the action is fast, draw distance is impressive seeing stunning vistas all around you, it’s all only to look even better on a big 4K HDR tv running on Series X.
As expected Halo look this gen as they had to get it to work and come together on original Xbox one. This will be the first time ever I do not preorder an Xbox console for day of release. Just my preference and being honest.
It was all downhill after Halo: Infinite. Just like too many E3s over the past decade, I found myself repeatedly thinking, "Oh, a game with guns/where you kill things/that's dark and dystopian/that wants to be a movie, how original".
While Halo itself obviously has some of those qualities, it still feels and plays like a videogame; the action is fast and comparatively light on (realistic) gore and excessive profanity (not counting online multiplayer, which is why I really hope local splitscreen multiplayer will make a return). Fable MIGHT be interesting given Playground Studios' track record, but no gameplay shown. And overall, none of the "different" offerings on offer (even Psychonauts 2, which I was looking forward to seeing, and PSO, which just doesn't feel the same as the Dreamcast originals anymore, in a bad way) appealed to me.
I'm not going to invest in a new console just to play one game, so holding off until later is a pretty easy decision for me after viewing this.
considering the whole "our games will be on x1 too" thing there was more than a few games that didn't have the x1 on the launch platforms on those end cards
A solid B from me. Could have done with a tad more gameplay but Halo Infinite more than delivered. I think it would have benefited from the Bulan Wonderland thing being in the main show too. Good announcements all round with more Obsidion and Fable confirmed.
For those complaining about the lack of gameplay, minute for minute we saw more here than the Sony showcase and at least Microsoft made it very clear what is a timed exclusive and what is a console exclusive this time round.
All said and done with only Miles Morales: Spiderman and Halo Infinite as the confirmed respective launch exclusives, I'm choosing the Series X from here on out
(Also, Tetris Effect with multiplayer!!!! Get in!)
Fable only had XSX and PC listed, no X1
@carlos82 That's difficult to say with this non-HDR 1080p Youtube streaming quality. Any of the (few) games that Sony showed looked next-gen to me.
@Olliemar28 Gameplay for Avowed, Medium and Fable.
Halo not looking as if it was shown on an X-Box One S.
Ninja Gaiden 4 reveal.
@Olliemar28 I think the absence of Perfect Dark was a big letdown. No gameplay for Fable definitely docked some points. I'd personally rather have seen Forza Horizon 5 as opposed to the core Forza. And overall, the presentation badly needed more variety, as I mentioned in my previous post. Just way too many games where a gun is your primary means of interacting with the world, as well as the well-worn dystopian/post-apocalyptic trope. Again, I know Microsoft wants to show off all the technical, photorealism stuff their new hardware can do, but there's still an appeal to games that look, feel, and play like videogames and are family-friendly.
I learnt a few key things from it
Fable is a ways off
The Initiative whatever they are doing, a ways off
Coalition - same as above
Forza - a ways off, this one was particularly dissapointing though I wonder with the development methods of a racing game whether the pandemic had a massive effect there as I would assume it would involve travelling on-location.
Halo Infinite gameplay was absolutely awesome though, Dontnod's new game looks great.
What worries is what they will have outside of Halo at launch or in the launch "window"
There was enough there for me, but it's all still some time away. I'm not sure if there is enough for me to sack off my One X for launch day.
@AtlanteanMan I feel the exact opposite. There were a ton of variety, a couple “narrative games” Dusk Falls, and they reshowed Tell me why. The only gun FPS games I saw was Outerworlds, State of Decay, Destiny 2, and Halo... Maybe I missed one but on the other side you had, Gunk, Hellblade 2, Fable, Avowed, Hello Neighbor 2, Medium, Psychonauts 2, Everwild? Not to mention the PSO2 expansion. Exactly how much diversity did you need?
I give a B. There were a lot games that grabbed my attention. I still want to know more about Everwild and that’s kind of only a lore trailer :/
Edit: missed state of decay oops
i thought it was good, myself, a good array of different genres, Psychonaughts looks good, Good to finally see Fable announced, and that it seems to be keeping it's sense of humor (i was worried it might go dark and gritty). Forza looks great, the Medium is very interesting, the Gunk looked good. Halo looked like Halo, which is good. Avowed is definitely interesting. i dunno, could it have been better? sure, i guess, but couldn't Sony's show have been better?
I'm just going to copy/paste what I already said in the Xbox thread on Nintendo Life. Saves me a lot of typing...
I don't get all this negativity at ALL. They showed SO much in this show AND the pre-show, that they already completely shattered anything that Sony has shown us earlier. It would almost seem that for some people, Microsoft can never win, apparently...
I for one was pretty satisfied about it, and also pleasantly surprised with how well some games are getting along, such as Everwild from Rare, which simply looks like a stunning game, the new Forza is also something to look forward to, that Exomecha game also showed promise, then there was of course Hellblade 2, a completely new Phantasy Star Online, Fable, Stalker 2, Grounded, Balan Underworld, Echo Generation, Avowed, and so on.
And then there were also a lot of interesting new games in the ID@Xbox trailer in the pre-show, which some of you might have missed/overlooked. Well, at least: I thought they were interesting.
Either way, even though nothing in there knocked me off of my feet, which I didn't expect anyway, I'm still quite satisfied with what they showed, and it makes me a bit more confident that Microsoft will be able to get more of a grip on the next generation than they did in this one.
@AtlanteanMan Grounded, Everwild and Balan Wonderland are not about guns and are family-friendly. There were many narrative and creative games, too.
@BlueOcean that is true, you still get some idea of the detail and overall geometry of a game and I'll be checking out the 4K footage later. Avowed looked much better than a lot of it and The Medium looked great too. Maybe we've just got to a point where even huge jumps in power are going to make little difference anymore
@ThanosReXXX I agree; I think some people just enjoy putting MS down.
Balan Wonderworld looked fabulous.
That showcase was essentially ‘buy GamePass’ and wait two years then ‘buy Series X’.
D Grade and no higher for me
B for me. Nothing blew me away but there are games there for everyone. Not all games need to be guns and gore. Also that all these games are coming to GamePass in impressive. I think it gives a clue of a bigger selection of games soon (more than 100).
@redd214 I was surprised that Forza would not be ready at launch. Not a big deal but we are used to seeing Forza launch with every console so lol.
It was okay I guess
@mousieone Yes, it certainly did. Gonna pick Everwild as my personal favorite, though.
@kuliddar absolutely surprising for me as well. I honestly thought that was an 100% lock for launch.
Not impressed. Barely any gameplay and far too many third party games that look the same. Compared to the Playstaion 5 showing, this was clearly weaker.
Reading some comments here, I think people forget that they already did one showcase (or whatever you want to call it), there is the one of today and there will be another one when they are ready to announce pricing. We'll probably see more. Add to it the stuff 3rd parties announced - that's a lot of games to play AND the console is BC on top.
I'm not buying either consoles at launch. I will likely wait until the second iteration of them (slim). However if I chose today, for the overall package, its easily Xbox.
I'd rank it a D. Halo Infinite seems to be just another BotW, most games seem to be years away (as shown by not coming to XB1), not much gameplay, etc.
Dragon Quest XI S was by far the best reveal.
A definite B - being objective!
It was certainly full in terms of quantity, covered a wide range of genres BUT very difficult to ascertain if they will bring the Quality too. Just not enough actual Game-play to warrant an A.
Obviously quite a lot of Console Exclusives shown but without actual game-play, there is too little to get hyped for, to raise more than an eyebrow at. I will have to rewatch in 4k as at times, there was stutter and I didn't get an idea of the graphical quality - which doesn't help when trying to sell next gen.
When added with the previous showcase, there is a LOT of games coming - and NO-ONE can say Xbox doesn't have games. I don't really know how many actually will appeal when I get a better look at the games, at the game-play and some more information so from a personal perspective, I think a 'C' grade but I wanted to be objective and consider the Quantity, Variety and Quality of games rather than just look at it from my own personal greed
B+ for game passers. C+ for non game passers. A+ for PlayStation owners.
Only a C. Halo was great for me but no Flightsimulator. And no FM8 for the next years while there is no support for FM7 anymore. We allready knew two years ago that Playground is working on Fable but still no gameplay?? What happened with Playground and Turn 10 that they still can't show any gameplay?
B - for me, for me having a long subscription of Gamepass Ultimate good to go it seems that if I got a Series X I would basically hardly need to buy any actual games...
But there is perhaps not quite enough incentive to get the Series X at launch....
I will see how the situation develops...
Any remaining bricks and mortor gamestores will be thinking other than the selling of the Console they really are now not needed.. If Gamepass really takes off further as planned (basically everything seems to be coming to Gamepass) the boxed games section for Xbox next gen will be incredibly small....
@Grumblevolcano "Halo Infinite seems to be just another BotW"
Wait! What??
The show was mehh..
I had hoped two or three 3rd-party games might be included, but it was all 1st-party. And incredibly Microsoft said they are still holding some things back for later announcements. This attempt to stretch E3 marketing out through the year will not help them. Still holding back the Series X price is frustrating.
But I give the showcase a B grade. Fable, Avowed, and Everwild look promising, if distant (2022 maybe). Showing a lot of B titles and Destiny 2 DLC for Game Pass was smart. The Ascent, Grounded, and some others look fun. Most don't interest me.
Halo: Infinite looks great. It's exactly what it needs to be — the original Halo remade with modern gameplay expectations.
Will MS Flight Simulator get a release date on Xbox this year?
I think a lot of the disapointment is caused by the diluted marketing strategy. I miss the E3 blitz. Some 3rd-party anmouncements will come later, like Warner Brothers games.
E.
2 games I was interested in were shown.
1 added nothing really new so didn't change my opinion.
The other was Halo, which kills me that it looked so lackluster.
E.... Only Forza picked my interess.... But even that....
Good thing that I don't need to buy an XBox to play all those games...
@BAMozzy that's the problem for me, I'd rather just see gameplay and I've grown pretty tired of this whole cinematic or just teaser trailer business, especially for a show they put on to showcase their games
@KratosMD What I'm seeing from PS fanboys right now is the same three games Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank . Aside from Spiderman which isn't a full fledge game, the other two are not coming out any time soon. Frankly aside from Horizon, nothing is motivating me to get a PS5. There were so many Ratchet games on the PS3 I got sick of them. The balance of what had interested me on their presentation is coming to XB right away or later on cause of a timed exclusivity.
I was hoping for more gameplay, than just trailer and trailer. Plenty of games just wanted some more gameplay
Why nobody is talking about Stalker 2? It's happening! I had no idea man. A 'B' for me. It was real good but needed more gameplay
Bit disappointing in terms of games, launch dates and little gameplay... but every game shown is included in Game Pass is an amazing deal. (except CrossfireX single player, sadly)
I’ll still be picking up Series X Day 1 as I’m upgrading from an ageing Day 1 Xbox One & Game Pass is the best deal in gaming
@kuliddar Since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BotW) was such a massive success there's been a lot of people wanting franchises that aren't known for open world to become BotW style.
More franchises since 2017 has made changes towards BotW style like Pokemon Sword/Shield added in the wild area, Gears 5 had open world segments in Acts 2 and 3, etc. Halo is the latest franchise to go that way with today's Infinite trailer.
A solid C from me - I was neither blown away nor overly disappointed, about on par with Sony's PS5 event. There were some big reveals (Stalker 2 was quite the surprise), and Game Pass gets ever more appealing, but there were too many CG trailers and not enough gameplay footage for my liking. If the game's not ready to be shown I'd rather they didn't announce it yet. Given the likes of Fable and Avowed don't appear to be coming to Xbox One, does that mean they're at least two years away?
It's a little annoying we still don't have an idea as to what to expect at launch, at least in terms of brand new games from Microsoft. With fourth months to go, neither Sony or Microsoft can really provide any persuasive reasons to upgrade beyond your current games (or games very much like your current games) looking a bit better and running a little smoother.
@Grumblevolcano How exactly is it another Breath of the Wild?
@BlueOcean I wasn't talking about Everwild, I was talking about Halo Infinite.
@Grumblevolcano I don't think Infinite is going completely open world, more a hubs-and-spokes style structure. Halo was built on huge open levels with big epic battles - something the series has slightly moved away from under 343's stewardship - and I'd imagine Infinite will be a series of mini hubs rather than one big map to recapture the essence of earlier games. I might be wrong, but that's how it looked to me.
It's no surprise Sony fans would rate it so low but, compared to Sony's event, Microsoft's was quite impressive with a lot of first-party games (granted, not all available at launch) and more third-party support than ever, Japanese included. The only PS5 launch game is Spiderman-Man which is not even a full game. Ratchet & Clank is a decent sequel but not ready for launch and who knows when Horizon will be released.
@Grumblevolcano Breath of the Wild is more Assassin's Creed 1 than any The Legend of Zelda though. It isn't that original. Halo Infinite looked just like Halo.
@carlos82 I would too!! This format works for an E3 or Gamescom press event when you get 3 or 4 days of gameplay video's, chats with the developers etc all filling in the gaps between press events. Its great when you want to show a LOT of titles coming soon and then have a Show floor to show off the game play - but doesn't work in this format where this is your big chance to get people motivated without that showroom floor and all the press to talk to all the devs and bring much more information to us.
I would rather have 6-8 games shown off - each with a small slice of game play with maybe some developer commentary to give us some idea of what the game is about. Do one or two of these every month and that would generate so much hype and interest instead of leaving people completely bewildered, unable to recall what they saw because it was so brief before the next one was shovelled out. Nothing to really excited or hyped at because there isn't a scene on long enough to take it in and out of context, they make little sense with no background, no idea of genre or what can be expected...
But if you were to say what Xbox needed to do beforehand, you would probably say Games, Games, Games. The big thing they have lacked this gen is Games so bring the Games. If they had just 6-8, people would be asking where all the games are...
As I said, you can't really complain about quantity, too difficult to judge quality of a 4k HDR 120fps next gen console with a HD, SDR 60 Stream with compression and very little gameplay and they did have quite a variety too - hence B
@KratosMD you hit the nail on the head. I honestly thought the showcases were matched. I didn’t have a PS4 this gen and games like Spider-Man, Ratchet, and Horizon do nothing for me. However I realized that The showcased was tailored to that fanbase and they liked it. Likewise the same for this one.
B for me. Lots of variety, an impressive number of new announcements and Japanese games. But too much CGI and a lack of Gameplay and Release Dates. Same problems as the Sony presentation really but I thought this was slightly better.
Wow, such negativity. I guess 100 games at launch just isn't enough for some people. Def a better showcase than Sony put on.
I would give it a B+.
I loved the show. It got bogged down towards the end before the Fable reveal.
But this was way better than Sony’s show & their show in May.
@BlueOcean rumours are GT7 and Demon Souls around launch alongside Spider-Man and you get the Astro Bot game included. From my perspective Astro Bot is the most exciting of those, his VR game is brilliant, where as Spider-Man focuses on a character I have no attachment to, GT has been pretty sterile for a while and I've never played a Souls game. I am a big Ratchet and Horizon fan though.
I did get the impression from the 2 shows that Sony's games seem to be further along in development, with Fable showing a frog and Hellblade not even showing a game. Upon reflection that is my biggest disappointment with the show in that we didn't see much gameplay outside of Halo. There are definitely quite a few games I will be looking forward to playing and actually more so than I saw with Sony's, just that I suspect I'll be able to play theirs first. I do hope The Medium isn't too far off, thats the exciting one for me
Hi there fellow gamers. I gave this event a C plus. It didn´t blew me away, but there were some good points:
The presentation was way better than the last one;
Lot´s of games were shown, with a good variety. Everwild looks beautiful but there was no gameplay sadly.
Were going to have Fable, good people, after so many years without one. And made by Playground. That´s pretty cool.
Quite a few others were brand new, The Gunk and As Dusk Falls both look right up my alley, as well as The Medium. Very excited for that one.
And some were unexpected sequels like Stalker 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis anyone?)
But nothing wowed me personaly. I´m not a fan of Halo or State of Decay. Forza seems to be way off, no exciting news from Ninja Theory or from The Initiative. They will probably show more later.
I think the most unexpected thing that they showed was the campaign for Crossfire X by Remedy of all developers. Count me suprised and curious.
All and all, it was okay. Excited for the next one. Keep the games coming Microsoft, that´s what we gamers want the most from you. Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
@carlos82 Yes, I was expecting Hellblade II to be a launch game but now I don't think so. There are 100 games available for Series X launch though. I really want Playground to take as much time as needed, Fable can't be rushed.
@carlos82 Maybe Demon's Soul but I don't believe for a minute that GT7 will be at launch. Their track record (no pun intended) since the GT5 has been awful. I think its further along than having to wait until the end of the gen to get it but I don't see this one being released until at best Holiday 2021. Anyways, I don't really care about that franchise anymore. Last good one was GT4.
@kuliddar I think they did all the leg work with GT Sport, in the GT7 trailer the in car model was identical to that game so cars and tracks can be reused and its not beyond the realms of possibility they've built some new tracks and a true campaign in the 3 years since Sport launched
@BlueOcean yeah they have to get Fable right, I just wish they'd started sooner
As someone who didn't like the Xbox One very much, not bad, but could've been better. Everwilds, Avowed and Fable all have potential but no gameplay was shown. Medium looks really cool but was it a timed exclusive? Anyways I gave it a C. It does seem like Microsoft is trying to improve somewhat from the abysmal Xbox One exclusive line-up.
@KelticDevil I was sitting there for most of the hour saying to myself come on give us some Fable.
When it finally dropped Im like crap Im not gonna see any gameplay 😆
Even judging from the trailer though I think my fear about them changing the setting away from the previous games has gone. I think Playground will nail that part.
@Nickolaidas
Yet PCs can play modern games at max fidelity even though they are made to scale to slower PCs. That's a not well thought out argument. Keep in mind that Halo Infinite is a huge open world game now. There's a difference between fidelity on a corridor game and an open world.
@BlueOcean I’m sure we will see Perfect Dark as a counter to whatever Sony shows the 6th.
Banjo or Conker would be awesome but I honestly didn’t expect them. Rare seems to have “graduated” from platformers, so either would have to be done by a different studio. Double Fine maybe?
Btw I find it weird people find Sonys reveal “better”. They also only showed up gameplay only for one game, but it was a game with no date. The only confirmed launch game never got any gameplay. XSX launch title: halo, for gameplay. That in my book alone sets this event above.
@carlos82 Fortunately, plenty of games on Series X until then.
@BlueOcean And I won't have to pay a penny to play them either 😁
I really want to know when The Medium is coming out
@Tharsman Rare would be the perfect choice for Banjo-Kazooie, look at Sea of Thieves or Everwild. It would also be fun seeing Grant Kirkhope and Gregg Mayles reunited. Sigh.
I think that Perfect Dark is coming, too. The funny thing is that some people will say "Perfect Dark reveal was fine but it was expected" like they said today about Fable. Poor developers, four years making a game and when they are ready to reveal it it doesn't count because of blabbers 😅. I was happy to see that Fable trailer. Take your time and make us happy. It wasn't gameplay but it's full of positive signs: style, humour... It will be an epic Fable game.
@BlueOcean maybe that Fable teaser will carry more weight if someone clarified if it was all in engine footage, and not a pre-render cut scene.
@carlos82 Note that Playground Games was acquired not long ago and they hired people recently. I'm excited about more games, some of them we didn't know until today.
@Tharsman The visual style and humour is what was worrying me... until I watched the trailer. It's going to be great!
@Jaxx420
Yea I was getting a bit worried there towards the end. Right before Fable was the weakest part of the showcase for me, so I knew they couldn’t end on that. I figured either Fable or Perfect Dark would close out the show.
I was very happy when Matt Booty said “one more thing”. Lol
@BlueOcean
I completely agree about Fable!
It’s Playground Games, so I trust them. Plus they are British & I love that charm of the old games. And they need to take as much time as they need to make it right! 👍🏻
@BlueOcean @KelticDevil I will have to say I was hoping the One More Thing to be Perfect Dark. Microsoft Game Studios ended up announcing 3 fantasy games today! Fable, Everwild and Avowed. It is a genre MS is lacking on, so maybe that’s why so many fantasy titles were shown.
@NEStalgia Now I understand what you mean about Obsidian. Give them a budget and they'll deliver! How many of the games were theirs? Grounded, Avowed and one more, I think.
@KelticDevil Yep 😉.
@Tharsman And the three of them looked very interesting!
I expect Killer Instinct 3 to be upgraded on Series X. Did you guys know that it was one of the games upgraded for the original Xbox One after the OS ditched Kinect and employed more resources on games? It was upgraded a second time for Xbox One X.
We already know that Battletoads is "coming soon".
Now we need... Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker... Xbox definitely needs platform heroes back. It's the only genre that it still lacks even after today's prolific show.
It's fair to say GamePass stole the show.
It's really hard to pass up on a console that offers so much value for money.
Buy the console and you are good to go with over a hundred games.
You literally don't need to buy another game ever.
Having said that, everybody is most excited about graphics and what the new hardware is capable of.
Halo graphics were not mind blowing.
I'm sure the game will be fun and the were some great games shown, but for a reveal event, you want graphics.
Nothing but graphics.
@Tharsman
I think we’ll see Perfect Dark at a later date. 😉
Did somebody say that Halo looks like BotW? 😒
@BlueOcean Haha, yeah Obsidian World Premiere really is the Squeenix if the West when it World Premiere comes to WRPGs. If so the studios MS bought, that's the one World Premiere that was a wow moment. Poor Obsidian has been cash starved for so long.
I saw new games...but these are new games that could easily come to the Xbox One. So is the Xbox vision of "next gen" purely FPS and fidelity (1080p/4K), or actual next gen experiences? It looks like Xbox has a brighter future stuck in the past.
@KelticDevil Yeah, MS already said they are holding back quite a few things for the third event. Really hope Perfect Dark is part of that.
B+ for me. I enjoyed the last event and found the games very appealing and interesting. This event just had more games, and a lot of them I think I'll like. I just wish they showed more gameplay of Everwild, Avowed, and Fable. Or at least tell us what they are like. Avowed could be a system seller if it ends up being a good open world RPG in the style of Elder Scrolls!
I agree, Everwild, Avowed and Fable are system sellers because of their potential, at least for a kind of player. The three of them are fantasy games but still different. Everwild more family-friendly, Avowed looks like it's going beyond Skyrim and Fable, there's nothing like it.
It eas OK, nothing more but i suppose the fact the only games they showed that interested me was Halo and Forza might sour my judgement a tad but i didn't see anything that said "system seller" to me
On a side note the OFFICIAL stream on the official XBOX YouTube page was terrible whoever thought have those 2 idiots talking over everything was a good idea needs a smack in the face, i had to go watch IGN's coverage instead
A bit disappointing for me, to be honest... A "B" is my vote.
Still skipping Xbox this gen unless Lockhart is cheap enough. Or it's a handheld. (I Wish!)
C at the most, mostly just cinematic trailers and the halo gameplay looked like a current gen game (graphically)
Hate cinematic trailers, tells me that the game is still far off as they have no gameplay to show
@Trmn8r Horizon Zero Dawn is an open world game and looks ten times better than Halo Infinite. Being open world is not an excuse. MS promised that last gen wouldn't hold back the xsx version of those games, which was proven to be a bold-faced lie yesterday.
Or it is simply a complete, utter lack of talent on 343's part. Or development hell. I mean, anyone who thinks that Infinite looks better than say, guardians is delusional at this point.
The fact remains that there wasn't a single moment in infinite that made me want to throw away my x1x and get a xsx. Not one.
@Olliemar28 I gave it a C. I would have awarded more if any of the games convinced me to upgrade to Series X, like Ratchet & Clank's dimension-hopping or that Unreal 5 demo. And I think they lacked a convincing answer to the likes of Uncharted.
The feeling I get is MS didn't do enough to even attempted to worry Sony. I thought Forza looked half baked. The games didn't inspire me. Sorry. Should have known with all the mouthing Phil Spencer was doing that nothing had changed.
@KratosMD I agree with you to some extent, but that doesn't take anything away from my personal sentiments on the matter.
I'm also wondering why people "that know nothing about the Xbox brand" would be watching, much less judging this live stream. Of course, there's always new adopters and/or people on the fence concerning any platform, but in general, those reveals are for existing customers/audiences, so while you do have a point, it is somewhat moot at the same time.
I also don't entirely agree that a presentation needs a whole bunch of established franchises, especially not if they want to move forward and go on to do new things, and make things better, like Phil Spencer is doing. Besides, they gave us Halo and Forza, so that's your check mark for the established series. And new is good: every established series was once a new one as well. Just imagine if we always adopted that stance, then no single new game would ever have been able to turn into an established IP.
I was also not interested in all that was shown, but titles like Everwild and Avowed looked great and very intriguing to me, and I also liked Exomecha, The Medium, As Dusk Falls, The Gunk, and those new Stalker and Phantasy Star games also looked very promising, as did Balan Wonderworld so all in all, I was pretty satisfied.
You'd think that people that hang around and/or are member of an Xbox website or community, are already in the know or fan of the system, and as such wouldn't be so underwhelmed with what was on show, because objectively speaking, it was a pretty decent showcase, with something for just about anyone.
And looking at the poll score as it is right now, I'd say that the general sentiment about that is the same. It certainly wasn't perfect, but it was a pretty decent showing, so I'd say a B minus, something I'd definitely sign for, back in college...
This is what i figured was going to happen, and Microsoft brought it on themselves: making us wait an extra month, building up all this hype, talking about how great it was going to be, of course people are disappointed. the games lineup was actually really good, very diverse with some great announcements (we're finally getting Dragon Quest 11! yesss!!), and i'm probably one of the few people who, while kind of annoyed, wasn't completely destroying them because of all the trailers. this was to take the place of their E3 presentation, which is usually mostly trailers anyway, so fine. the thing people aren't realizing is that already you can see that exclusives aren't going to be NEARLY the problem they were with the xbox one, which in and of itself is a good thing.
@Nickolaidas Lol k...
When the door opened on the space ship and the light shown through and has master chief walked forward. I was waiting to be hit by a thunderbolt through my body and see a world of nothing like we have seen before.
Then wallop, even far cry new dawn puts that world to shame. So underwhelming.
@Thretosix
I am not a fanboy. But I know Sony are doing better than MS. I have an One X and a PS4. I like playing games. Phil Spencer has p-ed me with his bull s#*t. I'm just stating that nothing has changed at MS. MS are interested in pushing game pass. I have absolutely zero interest in game pass. I like buying a game at a discounted price and playing at my leisure.
As for it all being opinions. You can argue that to a point, but one is actually better than the other. I want both to succeed. If MS fail it would be a disaster for gaming.
It's the rivalry between MS and Sony that have pushed console technology to the amazing point we are at.
Personally, I was quite happy with the show. Fable, STALKER, Avowed, Psychonauts... Maybe it’s because I was prepared for disappointment like the last console launch that I,am more than happy with this one. Will probably wait for Christmas before grabbing the console, but getting it I shall be.
Overall i would give it a B. I liked Halo Infinite gameplay, I thought The Medium looked awsome.. Im excited about Fable and im super pumped about obsiden new game Avowed.. I really enjoyed the show
@Thretosix I agree, there's absolutely nothing that Sony is doing better than Microsoft at the moment except for some games that some people think that are the best games in the world (but they aren't): Sony's exclusives. If they see more value in Sony that doesn't mean that it's objectively better.
