Doesn’t affect gameplay, so I don’t care. This is the sort of thing that will be done to attract paying players. In f2p, those are the people that support the game. If people hate it or think it’s too expensive, they won’t buy them.
Probably 80% or so. I bought ME:LE and Death’s Door, as well as a couple of deep discount games on sales (like Vanquished), but i think I played around 30-35 game pass games this year.
Personally, I don’t really care if they fix it. I’ll play either way. That said, if you get the battle pass in Fortnite, it feels like a ridiculously good bargain. Tons of fun new skins, gliders, and enough v-bucks to get the next battle pass if you want. Usually ever 10 levels has something really cool to unlock. With halo, there isn’t really a tier that’s exciting to get to, and it feels like they are nickel and diming you to death.
The mtxs in Halo mp suck. If people just don’t buy them, it’ll get fixed. If they see that people are playing the game but aren’t purchasing cosmetics, they’ll have to adjust to make money. It’s not rocket science. They have some pretty decent templates with Fortnite and Apex, which both have acceptable systems. The key is that people should feel like they are getting a lot of bang for their buck. In fortnite, a battlepass will net a player like 5 skins along with a lot of other fun stuff. That FEELS like massive bang for your buck when paying $10. Halo doesn’t give you that feeling at all.
@Wakkawipeout “ Sony exclusives generate a conversation because they're all character-focused.”
I 100% agree with this. It’s one of the reasons that I’m not a big Halo guy. I’ll play it and enjoy it, but since Master Chief never takes off his mask, it’s hard for me to relate with him. It’s thought to write emotionally impactful moments when you can’t see the characters’ facial expressions. Gears of War is the series that competes best with the Sony games. Fantastic graphics and performance, well written story, emotionally impactful moments, I think it has it all. Of the Xbox franchises, Gears has most of the characters I care about. Shout out to Ori for being emotionally impactful, as well.
It’s interesting, because I don’t think they believe there is really much money to be made in Japan itself. I think MS knows they need to have SOME presence in Japan to convince devs to make games for Xbox. There are a ton of Americans that love Japanese games, and those are the people that MS can’t afford to lose.
You’re obviously entitled to your opinion, but I find the open world racing way more interesting. And since Forza Horizon 4 is the best selling game in the Forza series, and FH3 is the 2nd best selling, I don’t think I’m alone.
Sounds like EA to me. Get Obsidian on board to help with BioWare projects. They have Dragon Age and Mass Effect cooking simultaneously, so they could probably use more RPGs. This news is why I’m not surprised that The Initiative is outsourcing to Crystal Dynamics. There is only so much talent available. Who would they hire? A bunch of fresh out of college rookies? Sounds dangerous to place what is to be a premiere game in the hands of a bunch of unproven talent. Let The Initiative upper management make design choices, and let the talented devs at CD make that vision come to life.
I actually don’t mind influencers getting free stuff. That’s advertising. That said, it annoys me that they get stuff that isn’t available to purchase.
@Magabro Understandable. Once I started playing SoD2, the same thing happened to me. I just went back to complete the Trumbull Valley map. I can’t wait to see what they do with SoD3.
@Fiendish-Beaver I actually know the exact reason I prefer Gears and still enjoy Halo 5 though many don’t. I just think Master Chief’s character arc is lacking. It’s hard for me to think of him as much more than a faceless soldier, because he never takes off the helmet. The moment in Gears 5 where Marcus hugs his son at the end after the “tragedy” happens (in my playthrough), just seems like the type of emotional moment I’ll never get to experience in Halo. I really enjoyed the characters they brought in for Halo 5. It just had a lot of personality.
I've really enjoyed playing around some in multiplayer to get a feel for the gameplay. That said, I won't play much mp when it releases, but it does make me quite excited for the campaign. Unlike many, I enjoyed the Halo 5 campaign and am really looking forward to continuing on. It's not my favorite xbox franchise (I defintiely prefer the Gears series), but I always find it to be a good time.
@GamingFan4Lyf Definitely check it out. TF2 is my favorite FPS campaign of all time. Fantastic story with good, emotional impact. On Gamepass or it’s always going on sale for $4.
@BlueOcean “ People that don't play on Xbox think that Gears is another boring shooter”
I think it’s so funny that people will claim that the Gears franchise is stale while at the same time singing Ratchet & Clank 12’s praises (that’s right, there are 12 mainline R&C games).
“ To me Gears have been more enjoyable this far”
I also 100% agree with this. I know this is a matter of taste, but I just enjoy the character interactions in Gears way more. Master Chief is a bit too robotic for my taste, and I feel I actually have a hard time relating with him because he never takes off the helmet. I think this is actually why I really enjoy Halo 5 more than most. 343 tried to develop some Spartan characters, and people just wanted more Chief.
@Widey85 “ laugh at the idea of a "monopoly" considering the PS4 was so dominant and nothing was said then.”
Yeah, I think many people aren’t clear what a monopoly is. Definition: the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service
There are multiple hundreds of dev studios (a quick google search says there are over 2000), MS isn’t anywhere close to being at a monopoly with their 26 studios. As a matter of fact, Embracer Group owns around 76 studios. I don’t think MS needs to worry.
@StonyKL “ I also find the comments are much more toxic on shared sites.”
Same. This is why I visit pure Xbox and push square (I have a Switch, but I’m way less impressed with their output than most this generation). If people think these comment sections are toxic, surely they’ve never been to the IGN comment section. Personally, I don’t see fanboyism being any worse on this site than Pushsquare. If you go into a Deathloop article on Pushsquare, you’ll see dozens of bitter comments on how they won’t buy it because they don’t want to support Xbox or subsidize Gamepass. Good games are good games.
@Fenbops “On the whole I do not like the idea of MS or Sony buying up studio after studio, they both do it lets be honest here, it’s just that MS have more money to buy bigger than Sony and make bigger waves.”
This is a true statement. And if Sony did buy Square Enix, it would be deemed “okay” because Sony has a “close working relationship with Square”, where in reality they just buy lots of times exclusives from them.
Personally, I don’t mind either company gobbling up studios and publishers, as I always own both systems (though I prefer Xbox acquisitions because of Gamepass). First party games always seem to have a bit more care put into them than the 3rd party variety.
@UltimateOtaku91 I’ll say this about the two consoles. I love my Xbox and PS, but whereas PS4 had a clear exclusives lead over Xbox One in both quantity and quality, it seems pretty apparent that lead is nowhere near as prevalent this generation. As a matter of fact, I would say that as far as exclusives are concerned, it will be a matter of personal preference. Whether you enjoyed the Xbox e3 showcase or this Sony showcase more is probably highly dependent on taste in games. Xbox has to have an edge in the WRPGs and “shooters” of all types, Sony still has the edge of in 3rd person adventures and JRPGs. I prefer the Xbox controller layout, but I love the haptics one the dual sense. There’s a lot to love with both of the consoles.
Definitely excited about the Insomniac games. They might be the best dev studio on the planet. I haven’t heard a peep about a Wolverine game anywhere, so that was the big surprise for me. God of War 2 looks like more of the same, which is fantastic. The first one was one of my favorite games of the gen. KOTOR was a great game, but I’ll be able to wait for it to go on sale. The games I’m most excited about on PS5 seem like a long way away, so I’m definitely glad I have both consoles.
@Stocksy “It’s not a Bethesda style move. Which was bad for everyone.”
It was great for me. I don’t have to buy those games, anymore. Apparently, it was good for Bethesda as well. They don’t have to prioritize monetizing their games like they did with Fallout 76.
@JetmanUK “ Activision has every right to protect their IP and keep it as a 'premium' product. Apple do this, Disney do this.”
I’m in total agreement here. If Activision wants to price their games like this, they have every right to do so. I won’t buy it, but if people ARE buying it, why should they drop the price more. I also hardly ever buy Nintendo games anymore, because I don’t think they are worth the $60. That’s why my Switch gathers dust. It’s why my Xbox gets the most use. My PS5 only gets used for exclusives, but I won’t buy a game for $70 until God of War comes out. Looking forward to playing Ratchet and Clank when it hits $40. My point is that they can price it at whatever they want. It’s only priced too high if they aren’t selling units. Don’t like the price, don’t buy at that price.
@Residentsteve01 “ None of these are smaller games but Halo seems unfinished after 6 years of development Forza Horizon 5 haven’t finished a horizon game since the 1st they are all the same , Forza Motorsport got bored after the 5th one that I played far to much of, Hellblade 2 the 1st one was overrated it had boring and dull combat repetitive gameplay I expected more from the same people that did heavenly sword and dmc, Starfield I’m not interested in Indiana Jones not yet confirmed , State of Decay 3 kinda looks a bit rubbish , Perfect Dark probably not going to be that good , Avowed 🤷🏼♂️, Outer Worlds 2 🤷🏼♂️, Gears 6 is actually gears 7 and is the only one I care about, Wolfenstein 3 🤷🏼♂️.”
I was strictly commenting on your statement that Xbox was only throwing small games at Gamepass. It seemed as if you were accusing them of making a less than full effort to provide quality games. I feel the list of games coming out is strong evidence to counter that claim.
You are obviously entitled to hate everything Xbox makes. I actually love Gears and think Halo is a bit overrated, myself. But the variety of upcoming games is something that I think Xbox is really doing right. And though these games haven’t come out yet, there’s nothing to suggest that they are being created on shoestring budgets to just fill up Gamepass.
@Residentsteve01 “ Xbox just have a lot of smaller games to Chuck on gamepass imo”
I’m going to list upcoming Xbox 1st party games. I’m just curious which ones you consider the “smaller” games. Halo, Forza Horizon 5, Forza Motorsport, Hellblade 2, Starfield, Indiana Jones, State of Decay 3, Perfect Dark, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Gears 6, Wolfenstein 3.
Well, I primarily play sp campaign, though I’ll dabble in the mp and I’ll play coop campaign with my son when that releases. I was actually fine with how it looked last year when they decided to delay it. I understand the criticisms it had, but those graphics would not have ruined it for me. With an extra year of refinement, I assume it’s even better, so I’m pretty excited about it.
@Shoeblazer I agree with this. Let’s see it play out first, and if it is bad, then fans can voice their dissatisfaction. I’m sure 343 will adjust if necessary.
These just don’t do it for me. I played About half of Bloodborne and just decided to move onto something else. It’s obviously a well made game, but they just aren’t the type of games I’m into.
I can’t believe to get get one of these, we’re going to have to be ready to click “add to cart” at some specific time like it was a series X or PS5. Oh well, time to wait by the monitor.
For me, I don’t mind not having the coop campaign at launch. I play it with my son and all, but single player seems to be the intended campaign experience. The story goes kind of dumb when trying to justify both characters and often ignores the second character completely. Like I said, it’s fun to play coop with my son, and I will when it comes out, but it completely detracts from the story experience for me. My first playthrough would be single player whether it launched with the coop or not.
@NEStalgia I love SoT, but in all honesty, it’s really only fun if you’re playing with people you know. I’ve made a couple of solo runs to boost up my level, but it wasn’t actually fun, so I don’t not want play with my friends now. I would say that if you only want to play solo, it’s probably not worth it. Also, anymore, you almost have to be trained by other players. They’ve added features and haven’t really done a great job of explaining any of them. My son taught me. He was taught by randoms he played with.
I really don’t need Xbox’s version of Ghost of Tsushima, because I have a PS5 for that stuff. I definitely prefer my Xbox because of the variety of games and gaming genres they encompass. I love State of Decay, Ori, Gears, Fable, Halo, Sea of Thieves, and Forza. These games are all completely different genres. Gears and Halo would be the most similar, I guess. It really is a great system. That said, I still can’t wait to play God of War 2
Who am I to say what works for Take Two? If they say that putting their games on Gamepass isn’t in their best interest, financially, I’m inclined to believe them.
Looks like it’s one of those games that just depends if it fits your style. Some people think Borderlands is awful and has a horrible sense of humor. BL2 happens to be one of my favorite games ever, and I think it’s hilarious. Same thing with tLoU2 RDR2. Some people loved them, but those games were not for me (though the first LoU is one of my favorites).
The Games with Gold are fine, I suppose. It seems pretty obvious, though, that they hold back all the higher tier titles for Game Pass, so I usually never get to these games, even though I do always pick them up, just in case.
So MSFS, Ascent, Hades, 12 Minutes, and Psychonauts 2 are all coming within 1 month to Gamepass. No need to buy anything when those will hold me over until at leas t the next sale, though by that time, I might be playing Forza and Halo.
I played Halo on the OG Xbox at my brother’s house for about 15 minutes. The 360 was my first Xbox and I got the bundle that included ultimate alliance and Forza 2. So, MUA was my first game that I gave a proper playing.
@The_New_Butler “ You aren't wrong but boy if you go into a Ratchet and Clank game for the story are you in the wrong ball park!”
Definitely an eye candy game. It’s the 17th game in the series (and people say Gears is stale?). Stories usually don’t hold up for that many iterations. I really enjoyed R&C (2016), though, so I’ll pick up Rift Apart when it hits $40. No hurry, for me.

Re: Xbox Wants To 'Do Something Different' To Other Platforms, Explains Phil Spencer
Re: Take-Two: Xbox Game Pass Style Services 'Don't Make Sense For Frontline Titles'
Who am I to say what works for Take Two? If they say that putting their games on Gamepass isn’t in their best interest, financially, I’m inclined to believe them.
Re: Roundup: Here's What The Critics Are Saying About The Ascent
Looks like it’s one of those games that just depends if it fits your style. Some people think Borderlands is awful and has a horrible sense of humor. BL2 happens to be one of my favorite games ever, and I think it’s hilarious. Same thing with tLoU2 RDR2. Some people loved them, but those games were not for me (though the first LoU is one of my favorites).
Re: Random: Xbox Fans Are Loving Microsoft Flight Simulator, But Can't Seem To Stick The Landing
@DonkeyKongBigBoy If you turn everything on easy, your plane won’t actually crash. It just gets stuck in an upside down position.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy With August 2021's Xbox Games With Gold?
The Games with Gold are fine, I suppose. It seems pretty obvious, though, that they hold back all the higher tier titles for Game Pass, so I usually never get to these games, even though I do always pick them up, just in case.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Buying In The Xbox Summer Sale?
So MSFS, Ascent, Hades, 12 Minutes, and Psychonauts 2 are all coming within 1 month to Gamepass. No need to buy anything when those will hold me over until at leas t the next sale, though by that time, I might be playing Forza and Halo.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 24th)
@The_New_Butler I did not. I might go back to it, but planting all the life seeds was a bit more than I wanted to deal with at the moment.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 24th)
Just finished up Death’s Door. Amazing game. Think I’ll head back to Sea of Thieves (such a great game now) while waiting for MSFS and Psychonauts 2.
Re: Random: Team Xbox Wants To Know The First Xbox Game You Ever Played
I played Halo on the OG Xbox at my brother’s house for about 15 minutes. The 360 was my first Xbox and I got the bundle that included ultimate alliance and Forza 2. So, MUA was my first game that I gave a proper playing.
Re: Psychonauts 2 Will Reportedly Run Better On Xbox Series S Than PS5
@The_New_Butler Thanks for the take. Does $40 sound about right, or should I wait even longer?
Re: Psychonauts 2 Will Reportedly Run Better On Xbox Series S Than PS5
@The_New_Butler “ You aren't wrong but boy if you go into a Ratchet and Clank game for the story are you in the wrong ball park!”
Definitely an eye candy game. It’s the 17th game in the series (and people say Gears is stale?). Stories usually don’t hold up for that many iterations. I really enjoyed R&C (2016), though, so I’ll pick up Rift Apart when it hits $40. No hurry, for me.
