I think it has to come out in Spring. Could you imagine the console being out for a year with no 1st party exclusives? Not a good look. I bet they’d like Halo out in time for the 2nd wave of consoles that will be coming out in spring. Just when sales will be slowing down, they can have Halo to help pick them back up. I also think there’s a decent shot at Starfield in the fall.
Articles like this and the comments on them make me realize how many different types of gamers there are. Most people in comment sections on video game websites don’t have any interest in eSports at all, but it is obviously a massive subsection of the culture. It just goes to show that it is farcical to think that the majority opinions contained in these comment sections are actually representative of the gaming population as a whole.
@StonyKL You’ll hear a lot of Americans say we need to “buy American” until they realize it’s cheaper to buy a similar “made in China” product on Amazon for a fraction of the price. I don’t think there really is a loyalty to US products. Surely, Xbox is just bigger here because of the big push during the xbox360 era. It was huge in America (and widely available) for that year before the PS3 released. I think moreso than in other regions.
It’s a bit disappointing. I think the Gears 5 “remaster” is the most next gen thing on the system so far. That game is beautiful. I think people that say Gears hasn’t been good since Gears 3 are just a bunch of people (probably PS4 only owners) that haven’t played the new ones. I think Gears 5 is right up there with Gears 2. As far as launch lineup, I’m not really upset I bought a XSX since I would’ve ended up with one eventually, but there really isn’t going to be much until 2022, it looks like. The good for MS is that I think Sony will have already released their major titles and will have a huge break around that time. Hopefully, MS can deliver on a bunch great next gen experiences.
@Kefka2589 I’m not going to lie, I’ll feel a little betrayed if MS puts their games on the PS5 after staying loyal to their ecosystem through the lean years and through this very lean launch (I have a Series X and I’m playing the same games I was 2 weeks ago). If they do, I might jump ship to being a Sony household. I have 4 XB1s in my house for my sons and myself and only one PS5, so I’ll just flip that and get 4 PS5s and only one XSX.
Edit: Rereading my post, I realize that it might come across as a bit petty, but I don’t care.
2 year exclusivity would be best, I think, if they go that route. They get the people that just flat out refuse to invest in Xbox, but for many fans 2 years is just too long to wait, and they’ll be driven to your ecosystem. I have a PS4 and an X1X, and I prefer the X1X enough that a 1 year timed exclusive deal isn’t enough to make me get it on the PS4 (like Kingdom Hearts 3).
ME2. Literally the easiest opinion survey I’ve ever answered. Favorite game of all time. I really liked 3 as well, but the ending did indeed suck. Also, the fetch quests were weird. You eavesdrop on conversations, then go find a heirloom for them. “Hey, I overheard you talking about your family’s sacred heirloom. I came across it in the Horse Head nebula. Here you go.” Garrus and Shep on top of Citadel is one of the all time great scenes. Mordin death was also fantastic (unlike Shep’s).
@Alpha_Pulse You are in for a treat, sir. Ori 2 is my goty so far. The game play is sublime, and the narrative has a similar emotional feel to Journey, but the game is fun.
@KelticDevil Agreed. I think they shouldn’t be shy about putting M&K games on the console. Just make it very clear that it’s required for the game and let people choose if they want to do it. I don’t think they need to convert ALL their M&K games for controller functionality.
It kind of sucks we don’t have any 1st party games at launch, but what’s worse is that outside of Halo, I’m not sure if we’re getting anything in 2021 either. Psychonauts 2 is 2021, and I assume we’ll get MSFS on console, but what else? Maybe Starfield if it has a Fallout 4 style reveal and release.
On top of all of this, they would run the risk of alienating their biggest fans if they made it available to PS5. Xbox fans have endured many years of being mocked for having no exclusives. Buying a company and putting all the games on the PS5 is just going to subject your fans to more mockery for years to come.
@Jacko11 I disagree. I think if they want Game Pass to be Netflix style huge, they HAVE to have exclusives people want to play. Halo an Gears is great, and will drive many Xbox fans to get GAme Pass, but won’t even move the needle on a PlayStation fan. Give a PS fan the option to buy the game on their own console, they’ll just buy it there. That’s how ALL exclusives work. Of course you could release them everywhere and make more money, but by holding them, you drive people to your ecosystem. I always buy both consoles so I can play any games I want. If I could get ALL the games on PS5, I’d just get a PS5 so I didn’t need to buy 2 consoles. I’d save $500. I couldn’t get GAme pass on console anymore, but I would have an extra $500 for video games that I specifically wanted.
I’ll add that I also think this feature would be great for crossplay games. I was playing Apex last night with a PS4 buddy, and the game chat is borderline broken. The same use to be true with fortnite when it started crossplay.
This will be a huge deal for teens, I think. All of my students use discord instead of built-in live services (Xbox party chat). I know my 14 year old uses it during gaming as well.
@Murray Every time MS buys a studio, it feels like they are buying my games for me. As far as the CoD times exclusivity, all’s fair, I suppose. I don’t play CoD, so it definitely isn’t an issue for me.
I know Ori gets praised, but it’s still underrated. It should be in game of the year conversations a lot more than it is. Has the same type of emotional impact as a game like Journey, but is fun to play.
@Terrin I disagree with it being short term. I think Ubi has gotten all the money they’re going to get out of the vanilla game. You can get the game for next to nothing on sale. This just puts it in the hands of more consumers, which will allow them to sell dlc to more people. Xbox gets to say they have another big title on GP. This probably cost Xbox next to nothing. I think Ubi actually benefits more from the increased exposure than Xbox does from getting the game on GP.
This would makes sense. They aren’t going to drive people to Game Pass by putting their games on PS5. Let’s face it, if MS did put the games on the PS5, Sony fans would be thrilled and Xbox fans would feel betrayed. That’s the exact opposite of what MS should want to happen.
@Kefka2589 The most important thing to me this gen is that Game Pass is successful. I’ll still play those PS5 exclusives in a couple of years, but when it comes to everyday gaming, I really can’t imagine going back to life before GP. And the more people that subscribe to it, the more Xbox can afford to support it with new studios and titles.
Xbox’s #1 job right now should probably be making sure everyone knows exactly what game pass is and the value it provides. It’s a pretty new idea and the general public needs educated on it. Spending this much money on an advertisement that doesn’t include any reference to GP seems daft to me.

Love this series. The Coalition does great work. I really hope they tie the series up in Gears 6 and we can see them try a new IP.

@NEStalgia I agree. I’m not sure if people realize that it’s a lot closer in the USA than other regions.
PS4- 33,000,000
XB1 - 28,000,000 (estimated)
