SE has had some duds over the last few years I think they don’t have any other choice. FF7 Rebirth underperforming is probably the latest push towards the new strategy. I didn’t buy it because Remake was hot garbage imo.
‘And let’s be honest, it’s been a flop from big stand out AAA games, to console sales and now very slow GP take up. Studio management etc.’
All true, but Xbox has been raking in massive profits, so uncle Phil hasn’t been a complete failure and at the end of the day the money is all those above uncle Phil care about.
The author can 100% believe what he wants, Xbox is where it is because of uncle phil. It would be unfair to put the blame on him completely as MS is a mega corporation with no shortage of talking heads, but uncle Phil has had a huge part to play in this.
As someone already pointed out, he became the head of Microsoft gaming a couple of years ago and was happy to take the title. He must have known then plans to move away from the Xbox brand.
Prioritise your game for the systems it will sell on. Simple as that. It would be on Xbox otherwise along with every other platform. I think Gamepass has a huge part to play in games like this skipping the platform, at least at launch.
@Fiendish-Beaver I don’t buy any of that. Xbox is where it is now because of uncle Phil. I’m sure he’s not agreed with every decision but he’s had a huge part to play in Xbox being where it is now. He said years ago exclusives are against what gaming is and look where we are. Xbox studios have become a laughing stock with no direction or firm management, that’s also on him. I’m sure there’s other things. I don’t feel sorry for him and the millions of $’s he’s made over a decade.
Uncle Phil’s biggest accomplishment is convincing some gamers he was one of them, he’s always been a corporate stooge. Like I said in another thread, unless he resigns and speaks out, I’ll hold that opinion of him.
AA and Indies are where it’s at at the moment. Honestly they can close as many big studios as they want for all I care because all they do is pump out dogshit. From the ruins of big devs you get smaller studios opening who’ll work on interesting, fun games, away from the constraints of big corp. There is a positive to all this somewhere.
Who really wanted this game anyway? When they first revealed the game and the supposed superstar dev team behind it I thought why? Why make another Perfect Dark instead of something new and original, especially with the talent. Since then it’s become a laughing stock as usual with devs leaving and no sign of a game. This could be their next Redfall.
@NEStalgia I disagree about uncle Phil. I think Xbox is exactly where he wanted it to be. He’s always been a corporate stooge, just one who managed to convince some gamers into thinking he was one of them. Unless he stands down and speaks out, I’ll hold this opinion of the man.
I’m fed up with both companies and the ‘triple A’ gaming industry as a whole. It’s absolute garbage. One things for sure I ain’t on board with what Microsoft are doing and see zero point of buying an Xbox when all games will be multiplatform under a ‘Microsoft gaming’ banner. Confidence in Xbox releasing anything of worth is very low for me personally anyway, between their poor releases since the Xbox one and them being completely onboard with consulting agencies, I expect nothing of value to come out of any of their studios.
I predict they’ll carry on making record profits with their huge amount of studios and big popular franchises, but the Xbox brand will diminish and their hardware will continue to slump.
Been enjoying watching Sony getting slaughtered over on the PC side over the last few days. Good on PC players getting them to reverse the policy. They ain’t like the PlayStation community who’ll do anything when Sony drop their pants.
Absolute disaster of a game. From the original cringe trailer with annoying characters to its launch. The only thing entertaining from Redfall were the funny videos of the bugs.
I put about 50 hours in. Initial impression were good, I was quite enjoying the game. I think it’s a looker. Then as I put more hours in I realised it’s an incredibly dull game with bad, cringeworthy writing and awful exploration. I eventually dropped it and will never go back to it, not even at 60fps. Done with the game.
£70 doesn’t even get you the full game anymore 😂 I hope more triple A games start to flop, they’ll blame gamers though before looking at their own errors.
Destiny has always had amazing gunplay but some of the worst, anti consumer practices I’ve ever seen in gaming. I learnt fast with the first game how ***** a company Bungie are and won’t support them again.
I very rarely play any game on release now, so if the majority of Xbox games come over to PlayStation in the future, it’ll be easy for me to just wait and play them there and not bother buying another Xbox . Halo and Gears have been diminished so much over the years I’m barely even interested in them, wouldn’t buy a console even if they keep them exclusive.
I thought the first game was an annoying mess. Good to look at but just not fun. Average combat, dull puzzles and the voices in her head annoyed me more than anything. Thankfully it was only short so I got though it.
I’m only interested in the sequel because it looks graphically phenomenal and the combat does look improved. I’ll give it a chance at some point but I’m not expecting anything special.
@RBRTMNZ I have my opinion on their influence within gaming and you have yours. You assumed i was those things, you were wrong, that isn’t my problem. Like I said have a good day I have nothing more to say to you x
@NEStalgia how much is Helblade 2 it’s not the full 70 right?
I get your argument that people want value for money and with higher priced games people want more content, but I would also argue that for the most part that demand is just leading to bloated, overlong and ultimately boring experiences. I would actually argue that in that regard, consumers are coming away worse. I don’t think any game should be 70, but I also think less can be more, a tight, interesting 20 hour game you never get bored playing to me is better value than a 80 hour one doing repetitive tasks. Regardless of price.
10 - 20 hours is just fine these days, I have less time than ever for gaming. I’d rather have a focused and interesting 8 hour games over something like Valhalla for example.
Campaign was fun while it lasted but felt barebones. When you consider how long the game was in development and the campaign we got, it’s shockingly underwhelming. The indoor linear sections all looked and felt the same also.
Not touched it since I finished the campaign, one and done for me.
The Xbox brand is currently a joke. It’s not all uncle Phil’s fault and I’m sure there are other actors pulling his strings. He’s just another corporate mouthpiece at the end of the day, one who comes across as being a gamer because he’s always saying how great exclusives are… on other systems. He’s done some great things for the brand in his time but I’m not going to lie I feel like the brand is not in a good place right now. Just my opinion.
It’ll make Xbox financially stronger while their hardware continues to tank. Streaming app/stick is Microsoft’s ultimate goal imo, while publishing on every platform. They’ll be making more money than ever with more games and their studios, but Xbox will be diminished.
At this point Uncle Phil is just spouting corporate nonsense.
I dropped Gamepass a month or 2 back as I just don’t have the time to play so many games and since that I’ve hardly used my Xbox.
I do wonder what impact Gamepass has had on sales in the Xbox ecosystem, are people waiting now to see if a game they want hits Gamepass? What % of Xbox users have Gamepass?
Couple that with consistently underwhelming exclusives like Starfield (cringefest) and Forza, their games going to PC day 1 and I can see why Xbox consoles are staying on the shelves. I predict stories like this will become more common going forward and if Xbox keep releasing their exclusives on PlayStation I still predict the ecosystem becoming irrelevant no matter what hardware they bring out.
What makes this game different to the thousands out there that already have micro’s? We as gamers have let this happen, because the vast majority buy into this stuff and have done for years. I bet most leaving negative reviews have been a part of the problem. It seems a weird place to finally make a point about it again.
I don’t like it, but to single out DD2 seems strange.

The tango guy leaving (I don’t know his name) must have known what was going on and left before Xbox could drop the axe.

Brutal. Redfall was a disgrace, Arkane should have been shut down just for the reveal trailer 🤣
I’m kidding, it was bad though.

I enjoyed all 3 of these games. I think the first is also my favourite of the 3, with Rise being a close second. The 3rd was good also.
Maybe the last decent tomb raider games we get, looking at what they’re going to do with the franchise going forward 😂

60fps won’t save this dull cringefest.
Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Pick 'Quality' Over 'Performance' Modes On Xbox Series X|S?
Performance every time. 30fps just feels too janky most of the time now although it can feel alright (RDR2).
Re: Fallout 4 Comparison Reveals How Similar The Xbox One & Next-Gen Versions Look
@GamingFan4Lyf I’ve tried on PlayStation and quality mode is definitely 30fps and it does look different to performance.
Performance mode should be 60fps @ standard settings.
Quality 30fps @ ultra.
By my eye that’s what you’re getting on ps5 at least.

Big fan of the series X form factor, way better than the abomination that is the PS5 with its $ store stand.
This discless version though is just incredibly uninspired, I can’t see it making any difference to Series sales, who actually wants this?
