Indie developer Ember Lab has today announced that Kena: Bridge of Spirits is officially coming to Xbox this August! Yep, after spending almost two years as a PlayStation and PC exclusive, the team's Pikmin-like action adventure title hits Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in just a few months' time.
The actual launch date for Kena on Xbox is August 15th, and we've had an inkling that this announcement would show up soon - ever since the game was ESRB-rated back in April. Anyway, now we know for sure, and we're quite excited to play this one on Xbox!
Here's a brief description of what to expect from Kena: Bridge of Spirits:
"A story-driven, action adventure combining exploration with fast-paced combat. Untangle the past as Kena, a young Spirit Guide in search of the sacred Mountain Shrine. Help free the spirits trapped in a forgotten village with the help of the Rot, her adorable (yet powerful) spirit companions."
What's more - we're getting a physical Xbox release as well! Yep, the team has announced that publisher Maximum Entertainment will be handling the Premium Edition of Kena on Xbox, complete with the following extras:
-
Official Digital Soundtrack
-
Retail Exclusive Sticker Sheet
-
Unique Kena Staff
-
Golden Rot Skin
-
Xbox Exclusive pirate-themed Rot hats

Great little game, very limited in some regards (combat, exploration) given it's just an animation studio but great addition for xbox players!
Nice. This game always looked fun.
Don’t sleep on this one. The story’s a bit of fluff, but if you’re one of those people that was like “BotW is NOT MY Zelda,” you’re bound to love the gameplay on this. Heck, even if you’re not cynical (and I’m definitely not cynical toward Zelda, BotW’s my favorite), the gameplay is solid and reminiscent of a simpler Zelda. I liked this game a lot. Everything outside the story had me hooked. It’s like a PS2 title with modern paint.
I wonder why they chose a pirate theme exclusively for Xbox.
Is that a Sea of Thieves reference or something?
I never did get around to buying this for PlayStation; but since I generally prefer to use my Xbox for my games, looks like I will buy this version instead!
Great game. Way too short, a little one note at times, and a shocking difficulty curve that belies its cute nature, i went in expecting a fairly easy family-friendly adventure and got a Team Ninja-lite thing instead, but it was a great game.
@somnambulance BotW is fine. It's ToTK's gameplay designed for trackballs or VR controllers stuck onto a Joycon that infuriates me. Couldn't stand more than a few hours before quitting that thing.
Does this game have dungeons like the pre BOTW Zelda games?
I liked it but honestly still haven’t finished it. Man does it get hard!
This was excellent but definitely more difficult than i was expecting.
i found it difficult so i played it on easy, made it well easier
@NEStalgia That difficulty curve is brutal. I raged at this game more than any Fromsoft title as it just wasn't fair at times. I think i'd honestly recommend anyone play on easy, they would probably have a better time. (unless they patched this later)
Yep, after spending almost two years as a PlayStation and PC exclusive
That's actually a longer exclusivity period than HI-FI Rush had...insane 😅.
Gorgeous looking game but with my backlog, it'll have to wait until on a reasonable sale.
I was interested in this during its first release. But they said F U xbox. Makes it hard for me to want to support them.
@themightyant LOL, I really felt like I should just hand in my gamer card, and identify as a fortnite kiddie while playing that. If I'm struggling with the cute little cartoon game, I must just suck so bad. Then I read people talking about the difficulty online and discovered I'm not a casual, it actually is hard!
Though I still "easily" went through it within a week or so. Fromsoft, still infuriates me way more (and we won't talk about Team Ninja.)
Really enjoyed the game, like others have said it was pretty tough in parts. Only thing I didn’t like about it was the story but gameplay and graphics conquered.
Finally! 3 years, why did it take so long?
I played it on PC, I’ll definitely buy it again for Xbox though. Just to hopefully incentivise the developers to better support Xbox in future. It’s a great game so a good excuse to replay.
So excited for this game! This will definitely be one of the best titles on Xbox. Xbox owners are finally eating good!!!!
@Browntrouser man it’s crazy how petty fanboyism holds people back from playing (great) games
Loved this one when I played it on the PS5, highly recommend!
@Browntrouser I don’t think they said FU Xbox at all! If I remember (please correct me), the studio is compromised of two brothers. That’s it! I think they always wanted multi platform but budget and team size constrained everything. So they developed for PS5 first. Nothing wrong with that. Xbox is now getting a great game!
PS players are getting Xbox games ‘late’ , but hey! New games! Win!!
