Big news for Atlus fans! Soul Hackers 2 has just been announced as launching on a variety of platforms later this year including Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, with the worldwide release date set for August 26th, 2022.
This marks the first Atlus game to be released on Xbox since Persona 4 Arena Ultimax back in 2014, so it's fair to say we've been waiting a while! Soul Hackers 2 is the sequel to the 1997 SEGA Saturn game Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, which was a Japan-only release until it was ported to the Nintendo 3DS in 2013.
You can check out the reveal trailer above, along with a brief description of the game below.
In a war between Devil Summoners, it's up to Ringo and her team to decrypt destiny and save the world from apocalypse!
Looking forward to Soul Hackers 2 on Xbox? Let us know down in the comments below.

Day 1 for me. Hopefully this leads to more Atlus games on Xbox
Let's
GOOOOOOOOOOO
Keep the Japanese games coming 😀
Remastered for the 3DS, not DS.
Great news! I'll certainly buy this one
Fantastic news for starting the week!
I love Megaten universe.
@Vincent294 Corrected, thanks!
The news is that Atlus is publishing for Xbox again! It's incredible that it hasn't happened earlier. I hope that Persona is next.
Not even familiar with Soul Hacker series but HOLY DAMN Atlus games coming back to Xbox!!!
February 21st will be remembered forever
Bonkers that this is skipping Switch but I’ll play it on my Series X.
Lol what a slap in the face as the first one was on 3DS, il just play it on my playstation 5 as this looks too good to miss.
But I have to wonder what the hell Atlus are thinking, every game in Japan sells best on switch and its the main console there right now, they will be losing out on potentially a million sales at least. Atlus must not like money.
Or
A switch definitive edition will come out a year after launch just like with dragon quest 11s, but I wouldn't hold my breath
With Xbox series and ps5 being the console to look forward the switch will be left out by the third party publishers since it will be harder and harder to port games to this console , maybe Nintendo will finally see the need for a more powerful switch.
OOOuuuu babyyy
did Sony's check not clear or something?
Saw that it has a P5 outfit pack too. PLEAAAAAAAASE let that be a hint that P5R is coming to Xbox soon. Its a big reach, but I can still dream.
Looking forward to playing this on series s. Also glad I picked up Soul Hackers for $10 on sale last year in the 3ds eshop.
@AdamCorela If anything it will be Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight!
I think it's probably a pretty good sign that Nintendo needs to update their hardware when games like this start skipping the Switch, lol.
Truly shocking news.
@UltimateOtaku91 Atlus doesn’t like money. There is no Persona 5 on Switch still.
Also I am assuming SEGA had a role for this game to come to Xbox
@Ralizah they will update the hardware once the chip shortage is not happening anymore. But since it is, we still have the current version.
Also this game looks like it can be done to be on Switch. Just Atlus being Atlus and not wanting anymore money. I am certain Microsoft paid Sega for this to be on Xbox because if we know Atlus, they will make it not be on Xbox. So clearly MS had to step in.
I will wait and see how the sales work for Atlus
We're millions of users under the Xbox umbrella ... Atlus can profit immensely by releasing stuff this side of the fence. Now bring us Persona!
@OldgamerDave well that’s just you and some others. Other people on Xbox wouldn’t be interested in stuff like this tbh
I believe, Sega is to be thanked regarding the Xbox version. Unfortunately Atlus wasted SMT 5 on Switch due its impotent hardware. Xbox needs more Japanese titles. Fortunately, the good start by Series X will convince more devs to port their games to Xbox.
Confirmed acquisition of Sega or atlus or something..
No switch version but an Xbox version… I hope Game Pass Streaming worked for digitally bought games, because I doubt this will hit game pass day one, and I like my Shin Megami games on-the-go.
Anyways, in lack of a Switch release I’ll be getting this on Xbox, and hopefully a Switch (or Switch Pro) gets released down the road and i double dip on a physical copy then.
Day one for me!
Bring more of that Atlus goodness back to Xbox!
@anoyonmus You've got a point there - Japanese games tend to be more niche! But those of us who are interested in Atlus ips, would definitely give them some solid cash.
Seems like Atlus fans on Twitter are no different than ponies. Many of them expressed rage because it's available on Xbox and "it doesnt have the audience for japanese games!!!!!!!!!1!1!!1!1!1!1!"
Very good to see Atlus acknowledge Xbox as a platform again. Let's hope it leads to more.
I find the comment about “Xbox not having audience for Japanese games” hilarious.
This is Sega at the end. They released every Yakuza on Xbox. They have the numbers, they know exactly what kind of demand is there on Xbox for these kind of games.
Bleep, I’ll be digitally preordering this one on Xbox.
@BomberBlur07 you mean the Sony ponies?
Its cool that more Japanese games are coming to Xbox. More platforms the better.
But some people appear to be outraged at the fact Switch is getting left out. From the trailer, it didn't look that graphically demanding, looks like something that can be on Switch but its Atlus and they are weird. Also it kinda looked rough in general and that artstyle is unappealing to me tbh.
@Axlroselm yeah
Love that Atlus may start releasing games on Xbox. Will support them for sure. I’m sure it will come to Switch eventually anyway.

Sega owns Atlus!
@Banjo- yeah but I am thinking like MS paid for this to Sega or the fact Sega had enough and forced Atlus to release it on Xbox instead of making games for PlayStation and Nintendo only all the time.
Remember Yakuza was ps exclusive until Sega brought it to Xbox and Sega also said they want to go more multiplatform
Clearly bringing previous Atlus games to Switch and more Sega games that were PlayStation only to Xbox consoles is the plan
@anoyonmus that can also be said for playstation, nintendo, an pc users. i know plenty of people on all those platforms who just don't care for jrpgs.
its a matter of people knowing a game's series will continue on a platform that a base of fans build up on that platform.
@Nalverus well, the audience for Jrpgs on those platforms are just bigger than on Xbox. That’s what I meant.
But the Switch is getting left out not because it can’t run it ( seriously, the trailer looks like something Switch could handle) but due to Atlus being dumb
@K1LLEGAL maybe yeah after some time.
Usually Nintendo likes to reveal these type of stuff at their own direct
An Atlus game on Xbox?!! Day 1 release? Heck yeah!
@anoyonmus Yes, it's probably Sega that want games being multiplatform and Atlus is part of Sega so simple. Something is changing and only niche Japanese games that barely leave Japan remain on Switch/PS with more and more Japanese games coming to Xbox and although Xbox is not popular in Japan, Japanese games are popular worldwide. Japanese play on Game Pass, too.
About the game, Atlus games are not top-notch in technical terms but they're classy and the script is usually well-written with well-developed characters. I agree that this game could probably run on Switch but every new game that it's developed is further away from the old mobile technology even by 2017 standards that Switch is. Porting to Switch is more difficult each time and that's why Switch is getting fewer third-party games in spite of its incredible success. In the past (Nintendo DS), it would get more exclusive third-party games but those are more expensive to make these days and the alternative Xbox-PS-PC makes more sense.
@Banjo- well it’s Atlus and their decision. It’s not the first time they have done this so there is that.
That being said, this game COULD come to switch at a later time. Usually Nintendo would like to reveal such games like this in their own direct. Life is strange true colors and life is strange remastered collection being an example. But I do agree that each game is stepping away from what the Switch can handle. It applies to all game developers not just Atlus
But we will wait and see
@anoyonmus Perhaps yes. Some Switch ports arrive months or years later.
@Banjo- maybe, who knows. Atlus games aren't particularly demanding and the trailer looks like something the Switch could handle.
That being said, why Atlus has still not put Persona 5 on Switch and PC yet is mind boggling.
@anoyonmus That's really weird, indeed, it's a critically acclaimed game. Perhaps, it will be ported to the other platforms soon...
@Royalblues I hope so, Series X/S must have something to do with all this as a more popular console than Xbox One and also Game Pass/Cloud is a huge market.
@Royalblues I remember that too!!!
They did list PC and Xbox as some of their platforms to release but the difference here is that they started releasing PC ports more recently than Xbox ofc.
@Banjo- probably because Series X and S (especially Series S ofc) are having a more positive and popular reception in Japan. This could be why some games that are releasing on PS4 do not come to Xbox One but rather the Series X/S.
I believe the Series S is having more demand in Japan iirc. Which isn't surprising and its also good because in the end, its helping MS.
@Royalblues Atlus likes to screw us all royally when it comes to Persona for other consoles (excluding PC).
P4 Arena Ultimax on Switch but no P4G on Switch
P5S on Switch but no P5R on Switch
but it is a start though. its a start
@Royalblues Yes, we have to support these games on Xbox: Project Zero/Fatal Frame, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Tales of, Atlus games...
Also consider that if they make games for PC then there is absolutely no reason to not release those games on Xbox because the PC and the Xbox games run on the same OS, Windows. It's PS and especially Switch that are different.
@Yes, that makes sense. Series S and Game Pass are more popular than anything else Xbox in Japan. Series S/X beat Xbox One lifetime sales quickly.
@Royalblues they released Persona 5 Strikers on PC. They also released Persona 4 Golden, SMT III Nocturne HD Remastered and the upcoming Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.
Also P5 can run on Switch. The game was on PS3 after all and also Atlus games aren't particularly demanding.
Bunch of their exclusivity nonsense is bs and from them.
So excited. Wow nice. Day 1 for me for sure.
It is weird about the Switch version. But then they could be holding out for a switch successor with better hardware
Edit: I’m reading a couple people saying SMTV doesn’t super well on Switch. Is that true?
O M G! Atlus on Xbox?! And it's the sequel to my favorite forgotten SMT game?
It's official, Xbox is the new Sega! This makes up for my disappointment with SMTV that I can't even drag myself to play 25% through for some reason despite loving the series and loving the TMS#FE menu system. I think the framerate on the hardware bothers me significantly, as well as the slow menu transitions that feel like it's a PS2 game on a PS2.
@NEStalgia I pre-ordered it and played about 2.5 hours. It looks great and plays fine to me, but feels like a slog already. I can't bring myself to pick it back up again.
@Bobarino Yeah, I'm a huge SMT fan, I play pretty much everything SMT, and that's a game that was at the top of my most anticipated list for years since the NX was announced. Nocturne is great, dated, I can't play even 1/3 through it, but i still can feel addicted to it even if I lose interest. Soul Hackers, Devil Survivor (the strategy game), Persona, SMT4.... But something about 5 just puts me completely off. Like you I got bored in like 2 hours. IDK what it is, and I do still feel the performance hurts it. Instead of menus and transitions being splashy and fun they look like they're straining and rickety. And you see a LOT of transitions and menus. But the game feels very.....hollow, like it just wants to get you out and grinding without really giving you a sense of mystery and place. Nothing is compelling me to keep going onward, and the side quests just feel painful to deal with.
People seem to love it, but I'm not sure how much of that is people loving it, or people loving anything Switch exclusive. As a series fan, I'm just not feeling it, even though I can't put a finger on what it is I'm not feeling about it. Maybe further in it would hook me, but the wasteland start just rubbed me wrong somehow.
