My guess is licensing.. music soundtracks are not cheap why very few games due it nowadays because it can ***** porting a game

@Medic_Alert I am not going to argue this.
But if you mean the standard developer/publishing release saying you will send for cert, and agree to the breakdown of the sale proceed goes (standard) then sure yes there is a contract but at no point in those contracts do you sign saying yup I gurantee to release insert title in platform, unless a platform holder says hey we want this exclusive and release it here.
If you want a good example of this go look at metro exodus on steam where they took preorders and said hey it's coming here but then switched to a timed exclusive for epic and pulled anyone preordering anymore.
My ex significant other worked for a small game publisher house and would casually talk about this stuff that if there was no payment for timed exclusive until the very end you can just decided to not release on the platform.
As if you did it any other way no one would even risk putting your games on the platform

@Medic_Alert those deals for psyconaughts outer worlds. Were not do to contracts but due to them already announcing it publicly what platforms it would come to.
There is no contract to bring a game to a platform unless sony is giving them money or a marketing deal ala deathloop and tokyo.
So at this point outside of the 2 mentioned or if sony and bethesda had any other agreements not already announced (say they already gave bethesda a cheque for marketing rights for starfield or say wolfenstein 3) outside of this microsoft can do whatever they want.

On the recent wpcentral gaming podcast jez said he heard from multiply sources that xbox was looking to lockup all bethesda game as 100% exclusive going forward. He is usually pretty reliable with his information

To answer his question some developer get paid a lump sum up. For x time in game pass others get paid for hours played it's how the deals are negotiated and microsoft had been very open about this.
My guess is he. Had only gone through ea for the last 6-8 years so he most likely hadn't had any reason to go to Microsoft's gdc conferences about this or there digital events for developers explaining all this

Yup most company's talking about engagement will use total hours/years to describe time spent.

@JetmanUK rare is big but they have a team on sea of theieves which is a full job keeping up with updates and all other bodies are working on everwild. With maybe a few left over to assist with projects like battletoads

@Tasuki fighting games are quite hard to create and you would want specific team to handle that and even with all the aquistions not a single one is designed to create a fighting game

Also alot of people forget even after Phil Spencer took overthe Xbox division under Balmer was in the devices group and the guy who ran that reportedly hated video games and didn't think Microsoft had any business in that sector.

Nedella took over that the vision in ms was clear that Xbox needed it's own gaming division in Microsoft and for the last 3 years we have been seeing the payoff for this with a ton of acqusitions, new studio and investments in things like xcloud and ect ect

@uptownsoul oh my bad I read a article on another site saying differently but looked it up apparently 2k must have some kind of first look/ right to publish deal for borderlands.

I think it would have been a terrible deal for around 1.3 billion, my understanding is Borderlands is owned by 2k games.

So outside of a team that makes pretty medicore games you get the great IPs like godfall, battleborn and of course Duke Nukem....

The comment is way to vague you could interpt as Bethesda games going to every console.

you could also look at it meaning we treat exclusives differently With us putting them on xcloud, family of Xbox devices, and on multiply PC stores

2 of my launch xbox one controllers both have it. On so badly that you cannot use it

@Tharsman this could be due to alot of the behind the scenes stuff. Remember gearbox was in the news alot before borderlands 3 came out and not for the right reasons.
Also they only have one good hit witt borderlands everything else kinda flopped

Not even just microsoft but even sony rarely builds its own studos.

Would love for them to continue bringing some 360 titles gave quite a few digitally that would love to play again

See I read it as say wait xbox secured this as exclusive meaning a game in a series that is either not on xbox or multiplat

Honestly unless these "insiders" either outright say the name of the studio or give a good hint at what type of game it is (or studio).
I call bs as at any point any youtuber could start spewing this stuff and look like they are right come end of year. As microsoft hinted and pretty much stated they are not slowing down on acquisitions

I doubt activision /blizzard they are just a cod factory and not worth the 2 games you get a year for the most likely 15+ bill it would cost

My guess is sega, capcom , square or the more likely thing them announce the purchase of say 10 mid/large size developers all at once to be the same as a publisher purchase

@Krzzystuff there is far to many smaller studios and companies like tencent. From my understanding to get got. Buying sony would be the only thing that would raise an eyebrow.

I dunno who is big like bethesda big maybe ubisoft... But I said this awhile ago. The entire industry is cosoldating it his mass penetration a few years ago and microsoft so the writing and starting gobbling studios early. Even nintendo is grabbing a few studios .

The rumours I heard is they have secured another studio and that studio had an unnanounced game which will be coming to xbox this year.

But shrugsbi dunno anythjng anymore but the end of 2022 you either are fully small indie or owned by own of the remaining like 5 publishers haha

If you read the article this list is based on they call it out themselves saying they are not exclusives

I don't think this is anything to do with exclusivity (I still think unless lucasfilm games agreement was have it on everything) this tweet is just saying he wants to see/hear more.
On what there idea for it will be.
Remember until the deal is finalized they cannot go in and make business decisions

There was a magic the gathering game the demo was a multiplayer one.. was in college and pretty sure we burnt out the disc drive playing that demo. Just winner stays and passing controllers around while drinking ... Good times

@WesEds as long as you own it can still play it regardless of the license expiring .I played the 360 version about a month ago

I feel anyone that didn't grow up playing the older jrpg titles will most likely not enjoy them. It's the story that drives those games, as up until say the 360, PS3 generation story in games outside of RPGs was non existent.
So XV and KH is more what you will probably enjoy

XV gameplay is action based and is real time combat.
Any mainline final fantasy X and below use a turn based combat system so unless your into that style of game will feel very dated by today's standards

I figured it was always gonna be a drip feed. Most gamers don't have the time to complete a 60-100 hour game with a few months.

I don't really care for this first half of the month list. Here is hoping second half is a bit better

Agree with all but Microsoft buying moon studios.
There is no benefit to do so. They don't own any office (retail space) no real tech, nor any of there own ips. You would be paying for just a handful of people who can at any point quit after getting the pay cheque.. again no benefit

My sorry should say my guess it would need to increase. As for 15.00 you are getting every bethesda, ea (older) , ubisoft and microsoft title not including the tons of indie games that are always in and out of the service

I don't believe these rumours but there was quite a few sources saying that horizon 5 was next year and so was starfield (before the acquisition some sony insiders said sony was trying to make it exclusive like deathloop and ghost of tokyo )
