Re: Bethesda Can't Wait To Show Starfield To Fans In 2022

Johnnel

I never tried the elder scrolls and tried an hour or less of fallout 3 and new vegas. Bethesda and western rpgs in general never clicked with me. Maybe I’ll try this since it’s a new IP and there’s no barrier since I could download it for “free” with gamepass.

Re: Psychonauts 2 Developer Already Working On Multiple New Projects

Johnnel

I’m excited to see what they do next. Whether it is a platformer like psychonauts or adventure game like grim fandango or something else, I’ll be sure to check it out. As suggested above, I’d like to see their take on Banjo-Kazooie, but I also think their take on Conker would be hilarious.

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Game Awards 2021?

Johnnel

The awards themselves were better than last year, but the announcements were underwhelming. Nintendo didn’t bother to show up even though they announced something new at the game awards I think every year that the game awards existed which was lame. I was hoping Metroid Dread would win the big award and Psychonauts 2 would win something, but It Takes Two seems like a good game that I’d love to play if I had someone to play with. Biggest snub was NEO The World Ends With You not winning or being nominated for best soundtrack, but at least Nier won. Overall it was an ok show.

I just remembered that Square Enix announced that they signed an exclusive deal for a game they already had an exclusive deal for and the game is still not coming to xbox which was the worst announcement of the night.

Re: Xbox Says ‘Gatekeeping And Elitism’ Have No Place In Gaming

Johnnel

I have never played Dark Souls in my life, but the way I see it is if it had a difficulty option, the franchise would not be as popular as it is today. People say that adding difficulty options would open the game up to more people amd more people would buy the game, but it defeats the purpose of buying the game in the first place.

If you play Dark Souls on easy mode, what is the purpose of playing the game? The story? No one ever really talks about the story in the Souls games too often, so I assume that it is not that impressive/interesting in terms of video game storytelling but I could be wrong. The gameplay? The game is seemingly designed around its difficulty with the goal being overcoming a great challenge and the satisfaction that comes with it. The beautiful graphics and environments? From what I have seen, the game is very visually boring.

The reason why people seem to be attracted to the game in the first place was because of how exclusive and elite it was. People wanted to buy the game to test themselves and see if they could become one of the elites that beat the game. If everyone beat the game, no one is elite. If everyone’s super, no one will be.

Re: Halo Infinite Has An Official Release Date, Launches This December

Johnnel

I hope they aren’t forced to release on that day. If the game isn’t ready, don’t release it in the same state that cyberpunk 2077 released in. Halo doesn’t need any more bad press. It might get some backlash for being delayed again, but I don’t think it would be nearly the same amount as it would get if it were released with a ton of bugs.

Re: Bethesda's Redfall Appears To Have Been In Development For Four Years

Johnnel

So they had four years of development and no gameplay to show for it. I feel like cinematic trailers only work when it’s for a franchise that has been around long enough for the viewer to already have an idea on how the game is going to play or if they already have shown gameplay and want to try something different.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About Cross-Gen Games?

Johnnel

I don’t have a problem with cross gen right now since many of these games currently being released were in development for a few years now and were designed with last gen in mind. Many of these games wouldn’t take full advantage of the new hardware and only improve the graphics which can be scaled. In a year or two when the devs fully understand the hardware and can innovate in things that directly affect gameplay instead of just visuals, they should drop cross gen. The problem people have with it currently seems to be the hypocrisy of Sony.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Want More 'Narrative-Adventure' Games Like The Last Of Us 2 On Xbox?

Johnnel

If xbox also wanted to have narrative focused games while also try to expand into the Japanese market, I would also like to see games that have more visual novel elements than hollywood blockbuster elements. I love games like zero escape, danganronpa, and ace attorney and would love to see games like those or even those series specifically come to xbox. I recently played ghost trick and it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time.

Edit: thinking about it a bit more, those series might be considered more character focused than narrative focused. Ace attorney and danganronpa are probably more well known for their interesting and wacky characters than their interesting plots. Zero escape is probably closer to narrative focused than the other two. Either way, I would still like to see more games like those on xbox.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Want More 'Narrative-Adventure' Games Like The Last Of Us 2 On Xbox?

Johnnel

@UltimateOtaku91 when I bought my ps4 it was bundled with uncharted 4. I bought the nathan drake collection because I wanted to try the whole series for myself. If I didn’t already own the games, I probably would have stopped after beating 2. I played 1 and thought it was ok and then played 2 to see if they made any improvements to the sequel. It might be a little better but it felt like more of the same. I played 3 because like I said I already owned the game but also because I remembered hearing that they made some changes to the gameplay that some people liked and some people didn’t. Uncharted 3 was my least favorite game in the series. I started playing 4 because I owned it and felt the need to finish the series and I’m glad I did because I like 4 the most out of the series. I think it’s the rope that gives combat some extra mobility that makes me like it the best. Overall, the series is not my thing but I’m still glad I played them. Sometimes you need to experience games that you don’t like to better understand the games that you do like.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Want More 'Narrative-Adventure' Games Like The Last Of Us 2 On Xbox?

Johnnel

I’ve played uncharted 1-3, currently playing uncharted 4 and also played the last of us with no interest in playing 2. I have not enjoyed any of them but it is clear that for some reason other people do, so Microsoft should attempt to make a game to bring those people to their ecosystem. If anything, instead of trying to imitate naughty dog, I would prefer Xbox should try to imitate team ico or giant squid and make games that are smaller in scale with beautiful visuals, are fun to play, and are focused on the overall experience rather than the narrative itself.
