Xbox undoubtedly had a fantastic year in 2021 — Xbox Game Pass enjoyed its best 12 months in existence, the likes of Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 lived up to expectations, and the Series X and S continued to receive great reports from fans and critics alike. But what about 2022? Well, it seems to be shaping up pretty well so far.
We recently highlighted 30 games to look forward to on Xbox Series X and Series S in 2022 here at Pure Xbox, and admittedly we could have added many, many more. The highlights are plentiful — Starfield, Redfall, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Stalker 2... the list goes on and on.

Has to be starfield - I just love Bethesda games.
Elden Ring, no question.
Starfield, for sure. Can't wait to see gameplay. I'm sure everyone's least favorite Canadian reporter will have it at SGF.
Hogwarts Legacy, Dying Light 2, Starfield, Lego Star Wars, but most of all (not likely 2022 and no release date, but a guy can dream) Hellblade 2!
I want to say starfield but without gameplay I can't get hyped or say I'm looking forward to it.
So I'm going with S.T.A.L.K.E R 2
Dead Space's remake, since that's one of my favorite games of all time.
Elden Ring and Starfield for sure, though it'll be via PC.
Olli Olli. Starfield. Red Fall. Stalker 2. Hellblade 2? Plagues Tale 2? ESO expansion. Lots of indies. Sea of Thieves updates. Great year catching up on old games, updates to games I already play and brand new games. I hope Microsoft has a showcase before E3. I really like their videos with developer commentary and all the enthusiasm.
StarField, but I'm very anxious about the possibility of a game so ambitious that it would be launched full of bugs and problems, à la Cyberpunk 2077.
I wan a real great game, a complete one, from day one, and not a beta which will be competed after a year or two of updates.
Starfield 100%. Bought a Series console a few weeks ago, just in case there would shortages later again, just so I can play this later in the year. Well, that and for better xCloud functionality than my VCR Xbone had.
Elden ring
Sifu
Midnight fight express
A Plague Tale Requiem!
(Oh and Goldeneye of course 😏)
Im gonna say Starfield, Redfall is a close second..
STARFIELD all day. Elden ring is going to be great.
I'm honestly looking forward to where Halo Infinite is going in the next year. Should be interesting to see where we are a year after launch.
Outside of that I'll take any indie game surprises please!
Starfield, Avowed (if it's 2022), Atomic Heart and Stalker 2 are the big ones. That nobody saves the world is also looking great and there was that pixelated cyberpunk style game shown at a show last year that also looked great.
Warhammer 40k Darktide and probably some more titles still to be announced.
Elden ring, starfield, god war
Third-party, Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers.
First-party, Starfield.
<- I hope it doesn't get delayed
Stalker 2. Can't wait for my uranium dose!
Tunic. That little Fox has stolen my heart.
Starfield, Hogwarts....I'm not even an HP fan generally speaking, but that game looks very interesting. Nintendo and Sony will finally have good releases too. This year is going to be OCD_inducing..... and my backlog is just massive....
@Bobobiwan I, also, want 2008 back.
I won’t hype Starfield until I see gameplay. So, LEGO Star Wars.
I would say Starfield, Hogwarts, and surely Forza Motorsport 8 will be out this year?!? Elden ring looks good, but I generally avoid games by FromSoftware as they are too hard. Also I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Starfield slips into early 2023 😮
@NEStalgia Ahah, good point !
But it's not as impossible as it sounds : we can say what we want about Nintendo but their games are barely updated (to fix bugs, I mean, not to add content, as in Smash Bros).
I've read elsewhere someone writing the same thing about Death Stranding, for example. And it's damn right : we can love or hate the game, but it's a fact that it was released in a finished form, and was developped in a very efficient way. New studio, new IP, everything was to build up from the ground and Kojima and his team did it wonderfully.
And I'm saying that as someone who was not interly convinced by the proposition of the game in itself. But professionnaly and technicaly, the game was just on point.
I really want to see something like that, for StarField. I don't want a Fallout 99 for this game. The stakes are way too high. It has to be a critical success, from day one.
Starfield, though i really doubt it's coming out this year.
Stalker 2 also has me hyped
Gotham Knights looked good a couple years ago, so I am hoping it plays well.
Redfall looks interesting too.
Starfield, STALKER 2, and Dying Light 2. No question. And the new Forza, where's that?
How impossible is it for Hellblade 2 to arrive this year?
In terms of games announced for 2022, Tunic and if you count upcoming content for existing games releasing in 2022 then there's a few others like the FH5 expansions.
Honestly the known 2022 Xbox lineup is so small that I wonder if there'll actually be an Xbox event before E3.
I’m not too excited for much stuff on Xbox this year, but my most anticipated game coming to Xbox right now is KOF XV.
Hogwarts Legacy too. I forgot about it. Also... Goldeneye 007? 😉 If Starfield is not ready please delay it.
@Bobobiwan That's because Nintendo's games still are from 2008.......
I generally agree tough, both Nintendo and Kojima. I fear it's not in Bethesda's nature to release polished games. They never have, once. I don't expect star field to be any different. They're games are inequaled in freedom and scope, so I somewhat understand, and you'd hope access to MS first party finances would mean top notch polish. Then again you'd think windows would, too, exce
Getting Windows ready, this may take a while
@BBB which dev comments are those? Besides the nft stuff
I'm really interested in Eiyuden Chronicles.
Nothing much as I would only consider exclusives for this type of "poll", and I think there's about a 5% chance at best of Starfield actually releasing this year. It'd be that obviously otherwise. Exclusives other than that though, I'd say nothing really.
That would be Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for me. The latest trailer had me floored!
First party it has to be Starfield. While it’s become a meme how many times Skyrim has rereleased the reality is that in the 10 years since it dropped very few games have come close to scratching that itch. A brand new Bethesda IP is a huge event but I’ll also admit I’m a little worried it won’t meet expectations. Fingers firmly crossed.
Third party there are too many to name, though Elden Ring looks incredible and stands out.
And if we look cross platform 2022 has the potential to be one of the greatest years in gaming history. Zelda, God of War, Horizon. Surely some will slip or disappoint but it’s still a hugely impressive line up.
So many!
In no particular order:
Starfield
Elden Ring (I have the Collector's Edition on pre-order)
Hogwartz Legacy
Dead Space remake (if it comes out)
Hellblade 2
Dying Light 2 (tempted to wait for the reviews on this one though, given its seemingly troubled production)
Suicide Squad
God of War Ragnarok
Horizon Forbidden West (already have this pre-ordered)
S.T.A.L.K.E R 2
Gotham Knights
Forza Motorsport 8
A Plague Tale: Requiem
Redfall (assuming it has a single player component)
Atomic Heart
Avowed (doubt this'll be out this year, but one can hope)
Tunic
Warhammer 40k Darktide
And hopefully a new XCOM game
As I said, so many, and these are only the ones I can think of right now. As with most recent years, my bank account will feel considerable pain...
I really don’t get why folk are saying Starfield!!?? Ya may as well say GTA6!! We’ve seen as much of both games. Starfield apparently drops in a few months an we’ve seen nothing! No gameplay, no cut scenes, no plot, no characters, not a single thing. Either it’s a pile of ***** or no way is it coming before 2023!!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Demoniaca, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, Hellblade 2, Starfield, Redfall (if it comes out in 2022).
Pigeon Simulator, can barely wait
I now I will get shot down but I don’t think 2022 will be a vintage year AAA in house studio games for Xbox. At the moment being realistic, very big game wise in house we have Starfield in November 2022 and that is it and we haven’t seen any of that gameplay wise. The rest of the big AAA games are third party really or 6 month time exclusives like Stalker 2.
Game pass nuts will be ok of course with other games, but I’m just a big new AAA game person, just the way I am. Not into dam remasters etc either.
You never know they could surprise with another big AAA exclusive FM8 but maybe at the end of 2022, a bit like the FH5 and Halo Infinite double hit.
I wish Xbox would spread and have new AAA exclusives throughout the year, but maybe 2023 for that to happen.
Now 2023 will be a lot better and of course 2024 we should see Hell Blade, fable, avowed, perfect dark etc etc, it takes time to big top end AAA games.
Starfield is likely my most expected game, period. Hopefully it launches with cross save between Xbox and pc, because it would be awesome to sometimes play it on my ultra wide monitor, plus no matter how well integrated modding is on the console version, pc modding will always be easier.
My list is so long this year I don't think I'll have time for everything.
Xbox: Redfall, Elden Ring, Stalker 2, Starfield, Hogwards Legacy.
PS5: Horizon Forbidden West
Switch: Bayonetta 3.
There's also a bunch of other games that are expected this year but haven't received a window for 2022 or set date yet so I won't bother listing them now.
Usually there will also be some unnanounced surprises that I will check out. In short, this year is stacked! So stacked I might miss out on some great games for the first time in forever.
