“There are 4 to 5 reveals on the scale of Elden Ring”
Geoff, you got some explaining to do.
Tbh it was pretty good and the best one so far, and a big congratulations to Josef and it takes two for winning game of the year, absolutely fantastic game. Best reveal for me on the night was sonic frontier and I don't ever play sonic games, but looking forward to trying that one.
Also Arc Raiders looked pretty damn good
Overall i feel like the show was a letdown..
Geoff is the modern day Peter Molyneux, yet here we are year after year.
@Enriesto ha I agree but in his head
Show was way too bloated.
I thought the sub-header said, give us your wallet lol. It's getting too late.
It wasn't bad. 3+ hours is too long tho. They also need to deal with the flow of it.
Here's an in person award, then a bigger premiere, then a band playing, then a couple non in person awards, then a couple smaller premieres etc.
It's a D from me.
Xbox only had Hellblade 2 gameplay, which looked graphically superb, but they showed nothing else.
Nothing from Nintendo and nothing from Sony.
A few nice confirmations of rumours such as Alan Wake 2, but just mostly 'meh'.
I think everyone is saving the big reveals for E3 and poor Geoff gets all the left overs!
It would be great if Geoff weren't hosting it.
But BOOM FH5 won best sound design! Didn't I call it? Didn't I say it right here to a bunch of you that the thing that stood out to me in the game is the impeccable sound design? I was right! There it is in lights!
Happy dance
the best name for it I heard is soyawards...
Yea the show was too long ... but the reveals were pretty good.
I dont know what massive expectations some people were having, but it was a micro-E3.
We got announcements and sneek-peaks from Arc Raiders, Star Wars Eclipse, Monolith's Wonder Woman, Aaryn Flynn's Nightingale, Alan Wake 2, Space Marine 2, Plague Tale Requiem, Suicide Squad, Slitterhead, Senua II, Horizon Forbidden West, Evil West and Sonic Frontiers.
And that's not including Steelrising and many more ...
A real strong start. Some great showings and exclusive looks. Let down by a huge lull in the second half. This show has a real pacing issue...three hours is just too bloating. I don't know if Geoff is actively getting these interviews with actors ect or if they're there because it's the only way he can get the games...but ideally they need to be cut. As does the constant virtue signalling throughout the show padding out the time.
I don't need to see endless streamers I'll never hear about again...have another show dedicated to that.
If they could get it so it's game game game award repeat...I think it would benefit the show. Have it hit the two hour mark.
To be honest I was very disappointed. There were no updates for Hogwarts Legacy, BioShock 4 didn't make an appearance, no Xbox Game Pass Shadow drops, not many new AAA game announcements. Barely any news from Xbox Game Studios.
On the upside, Wonder Woman, Alan Wake 2, Rumbleverse and Slitterhead got revealed and all 4 of these games sound promising. The HellBlade 2 gameplay took me by total surprise. I think PC had the best night, they are getting tons of new games including FF7 Remake and Trek To Yomi on gamepass.
I didn’t go in expecting it to be amazing, came out feeling it wasn’t too bad (I didn’t watch it live, just looked at the trailers afterwards).
Hellblade, plaques take, suicide squad, Elden ring, not to bad. C grade
I really enjoyed the show. It was a nice time. But it felt like the actual awards were very secondary with some being announced only on the pre-show and some just by the by.
I get that the announcements and trailers are the big draw but I'd have liked more focus on awards.
D, this one was pretty poor lacking in just about every aspect imo.
ENjoyed it. I gave it a B rating. Sonic, Hellblade 2 and Suicide Squad were probably the highlights for me.
Psychonauts 2 is still my GotY.
A typical 'Game Awards' show with the same mix of over-hype, strange award winners and 'new' game trailers etc.
As for 'Elden Ring' levels, that really depends on what games you enjoy playing and whether or not these 'reveals' interest you specifically. Elden Ring to me isn't that appealing - not a fan of SoulsBourne games (I do have all the Dark Souls and Bloodbourne thanks to Gold/PS+) and lost interest very quickly. I cannot see myself playing Elden Ring - its just another AAA game and we had a fair few AAA game reveals.
Arguably Star Wars: Eclipse is bigger - Star Wars is a monumental franchise - not just in Gaming. Also we got Wonder Woman, another massive name in a massive franchise. New Sonic game, Alan Wake 2 etc as well as Game-play from Hellblade 2, Forspoken, Suicide Squad...
The Game Awards is the last 'big' event of the year for devs to announce/show their projects. The next opportunity won't come until E3. It was a decent end of year, after a 'difficult' year for developers and left me optimistic for the future...
As an Xbox fan i'm gonna give it C. Enjoyed few surprise reveals, gameplay footage of Hellblade 2, and happy that few Xbox games win in few award categories but ..... where are these 5 world premieres in the same scale as Elden Ring? I don't even feel 1 lmao but that doesn't make them bad. Alan Wake 2 and Wonder Woman game for me for the reveals. The rest ehh.... don't really care about them for now.
Still no FFVIIR announcement on Xbox despite it being announced for PC (EGS lol) weakens my confidence of the game appearing on Xbox. No FFXIV port announcement on Xbox. No new game announcement from XGS/Publishing/Bethesda. No Avowed gameplay reveal. And Atlus games which i've accepted won't come to Xbox whatsoever, still managed to irks me a bit.
That's on the Xbox side. Generally i expect more like DQXII gameplay or atleast story trailer with targeted platforms, Sonic Frontiers gameplay, much better Atlus announcement like remaster/remake of P3, P4G and/or P5R port released for all modern platforms, also that rumour of Chrono Cross remake ..... lowkey expecting blue side announce it especially from Bluepoint. Ah yes still no new info about FFXVI too...
The awards themselves were better than last year, but the announcements were underwhelming. Nintendo didn’t bother to show up even though they announced something new at the game awards I think every year that the game awards existed which was lame. I was hoping Metroid Dread would win the big award and Psychonauts 2 would win something, but It Takes Two seems like a good game that I’d love to play if I had someone to play with. Biggest snub was NEO The World Ends With You not winning or being nominated for best soundtrack, but at least Nier won. Overall it was an ok show.
I just remembered that Square Enix announced that they signed an exclusive deal for a game they already had an exclusive deal for and the game is still not coming to xbox which was the worst announcement of the night.
As someone who didn’t sit for over three hours to watch this, it seems like a decent list of trailers and reveals. But I’ll bet it was boring sitting and watching that long. I played Halo Infinite instead lol
Personally, there was not enough variety in the game reveals. Yes, there were a lot of reveals, but mostly very moody, darkly themed and an overabundance of shooty-shoots.
I also still dislike how the AWARDS show sort of shoo's through the awards quickly to give us all the reveals.
I haven't watched. I knew it would be boring as f**k, so I just waited to see all the game trailers this morning.
Don't care at all for what is Keighley & friends favorite game of the year. Or all that e-sports BS for that matter.
Overlong, but some fun reveals.
I didn't watch it but considering that there's literally nothing going crazy online other than the Hellblade 2 trailer I'm going to assume this was a 3 hour dud that lined Geoff's pockets and staked the ego?
