Re: Microsoft Considering Offering Xbox Owners 'Right To Repair' Their Own Systems

ralphdibny

Louis Rossman is a legend!

It's not even neccesarily for users to repair things themselves, it's more so that independent repair shops (that don't have an interest in getting you to upgrade to a new model) have access to the specs and parts

Using authorised repairs outside of a warranty is a conflict of interest. There seems to be countless instances of people being told they need $1000 repairs but they can just upgrade to a new model for $1100. Taking that same problem to an independent repair shop can reveal that it's actually only a $50 repair either because the authorised repair shop is making the problem sound worse so they can sell an upgrade or just because the script theyve been trained with doesn't account for more specific repairs that an experienced technician will be familiar with.

I'm more familiar with the issues with Apple and it's genius bars, I didn't know MS had the same issue!

Re: Far Cry 6 Only Installs 700MB From The Disc On Xbox Series X

ralphdibny

It's such a weird one because people will have different preferences. I think for me, it's a given that one day I will have a Series X so I would probably want to have the Series X version on disc and have that download the One version in the mean time but that would be frustrating for somebody who is never planning to upgrade

Re: Deals: All Classic Xbox Games In This Week's Sales (October 5-12)

ralphdibny

@NotoriousWhiz ahh sweet yeah that might be an idea. Not sure if you can remap the sticks or not, definitely can't on the Switch but I haven't tried on the Xbox. I had to remap the d pad to the face buttons for one sequence in Battletoads NES on rare replay. Required quick fire direction changes so needed my right hand for it!

Re: Deals: All Classic Xbox Games In This Week's Sales (October 5-12)

ralphdibny

@NotoriousWhiz ah lame sorry!! I didn't even try to remap the buttons on the game when I've played it. Admittedly Xbox pad isn't great for anything that's better suited for D-Pad or symmetrical sticks. So annoying they can't let us just use any controller on the thing.... That 8bitdo mini switch pad lite controller would be perfect for games like this as it replaces both analog sticks with d pads

What was the price in the end? I can't see it because I already have the game in my Library. Hope it didn't cost too much if it's unplayable for you

Re: Dolby Vision For Gaming Is Now Available On Xbox Series X|S

ralphdibny

@BlueOcean ahh cool cheers. I'll have to check out the CX and C1 models when I'm in the market for a new TV which will probably be in the next few months. Looks like that comment from Jetman indicates that you have to choose out of the features to enable on a C9 as it can't do all at once currently

Re: 'Disney Classic Games Collection' Adds The Jungle Book & SNES Aladdin This November

ralphdibny

Gutted I bought this incomplete. They should either have made an extensive Disney collection that included the games from the original release and every other Disney 2D platformer which I would have been OK with buying or just a "sequel" collection that bundles Jungle Book with other releases not included in the original collection

Unless of course it's a free upgrade but my OCD will make me want it all on one cartridge so I'd still feel bad about buying the original on Switch

Re: Talking Point: What October 2021 Xbox Games With Gold Do You Want?

ralphdibny

@Krzzystuff ahh sweet! Sounds like a decent library! All our libraries have are books 😭. Joking, I think they used to do DVDs, I think games would just get robbed though. That's British teenagers for ya! Actually it's been some time since I was a teenager, I am sure they don't do things like steal pic n mix anymore which was an after school tradition for some of us (not me because I was too scared of the repercussions 😂)

Legends was on PS Plus but I think I'd want to play origins first. I'd probably just buy legends on Wii U once I got origins because I think it was originally designed for the gamepad and ported to other consoles later

Re: How To Complete All Xbox Game Pass Quests In 2021

ralphdibny

@dAvecaster I did put a Windows partition on my Mac but in general, it's more of a ballache for me to switch on my Mac, swap cables around, use mouse and keyboard, pair a controller etc. Than it is for me to switch on my Xbox and just be ready to go

Re: How To Complete All Xbox Game Pass Quests In 2021

ralphdibny

Ahh bleedin heck, a flight sim one? I'm glad there's not too many next gen exclusive games for quests to revolve around otherwise it might mess up the cumulative monthly quests

Going to try and download flight sim on to the computer in the next couple days for this and the punchcard. Hopefully it doesn't make my Mac take off and fly into outer space

Edit: just seen it says play on a series X/s console for the GP quest. Should still be able to hit the 15 weekly quests without this one

Re: Random: Fans Look Back At Nostalgic Xbox 360 Arcade Games

ralphdibny

@NotoriousWhiz no worries, did you manage to claim it when it was available? The physical can be picked up for pennies over here in the UK, hopefully it's the same in the US if you didn't manage to grab the digital

I didn't know there was a difference between smash TV and super smash TV, I thought it just got called Super when it got ported to the super nintendo

That midway origins has got the very similar Total Carnage too which I admittedly don't have as fond memories of as I do SmashTV but it's still good

Re: After Seven Long Years, Metal Gear Solid V's Xbox 360 Servers Are Being Shut Down

ralphdibny

@K1LLEGAL same here, I love confusing chronologies especially on amazing series like Metal Gear 😅. MGS1 is fairly easy to emulate or even available on the probably rather cheap now PlayStation Classic Mini thing. MGS4 is a bit trickier without a a PS3 unfortunately.

I actually bought the HD collection again on Xbox despite having it on PS3, will probably play them again soon in a few years. I seem to play them all every 3-6 years and I just did my last run through in 2020! I played all of the 2D ones in that run-through too as I'd never played them before, including the non canon Snakes Revenge on NES and MGS for game boy colour (which was actually awesome).

Let us know if you want a long release order or chronological order which includes remakes, spin offs, timeline divergences and if you like, brief descriptions of the gameplay (as not all of them are tactical espionage action!) And I'd be happy to oblige!!

Re: After Seven Long Years, Metal Gear Solid V's Xbox 360 Servers Are Being Shut Down

ralphdibny

@K1LLEGAL I think they make more sense in release order either starting from Metal Gear Solid or even the original Metal Gear (which I only played for the first time last year!)

But you could go in chronological order through most of the Big Boss games with what you have though!

3: Snake Eater > (skip Portable Ops on PSP) > Peace Walker > V: Ground Zeroes > V: The Phantom Pain. The next two games chronologically are Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake which are included in Snake Eater on the HD collection

Re: Six More Games Are Now Available With Xbox Game Pass (August 10)

ralphdibny

@SplooshDmg yep that's the one 😂, I won't spoil it any further. I don't want to detract from what will be a very enjoyable yet obscenity laden trip through The Ancient Gods!! Give us a tag if you need some tips for certain enemies though, I'll be quite happy to dig around in my memory for stuff I learned as I only played it fairly recently. Once you know tricks for certain enemies they actually go from being a pain in the er... elemental to being not such a pain. There's a particular tactic to get rid of the Doom Hunters quickly that I found really useful when there was loads of other stuff going on at the same time!
