Re: Video: Incredibly, It's Possible To Use The Xbox Series X On A Nintendo DS

ralphdibny

I had one of these for the GBA and I used it to play Tony Hawk's on GameCube on the tiny dimly lit GBA screen. I thought it was rubbish at the time so I took it back to the store. Wish I didn't now though, I could be making some sweet YouTube ad revenue lol

@A01 we did similar in secondary school. It was mainly using the pictochat to message eachother about the teachers. I remember a rude anatomy drawing contest we had on the coach going to a school trip 😂

Re: PowerA Is Bringing Out A Licensed Cuphead Xbox Series X Controller

ralphdibny

@Cherip-the-Ripper I've got a couple of the licensed ones for Switch (DK and Bowser), they work fine, they look cool but they feel really cheap. I guess you should expect that though as they are cheap. The sticks on the switch controllers were way too fat.

I took em round a friend's house for a smash sesh pre pandemic and I remember people commenting on how confusing they were because they felt like cheap knock offs but looked really official. But yeah, if you like the design I'd probably wait for a discount. I think mine cost £15 each down from either 20 or 25

Re: Guide: All 50+ Free Games That No Longer Require Xbox Live Gold

ralphdibny

@ultraviolet I know your comment is from a few months ago but there are games on this list that have a single player component or are single player in general. I never played online on Rocket League for example and I believe (but not certain as I haven't played them) at the very least that Crackdown 1+2, Phantom Dust and Too Human are single player games or have a single player component

Re: Random: Here's Zelda: Twilight Princess Running On Xbox Series X

ralphdibny

@belmont ahh fair enough. I imagine it's not a huge inconvenience to turn the thing off and on again to cycle modes. I guess if you are playing GameCube games then you would probably just be doing that for a few hours instead of flicking between GameCube games and Xbox games.

Unfortunately I finished uni about ten years ago 😅. My partner does work at a university though so maybe I will look into it. I can't imagine MS care that much, it's not their games that are being played. Even if it was, they are fairly liberal in giving their own classic game library out at little or no cost anyway. It seems a bit like the "Other OS" feature that was patched out of the PS3, just seems like it unlocks the Xbox so you can do a number of things you could do on a Windows PC.

Re: Random: Here's Zelda: Twilight Princess Running On Xbox Series X

ralphdibny

That's awesome, I'd be quite interested in doing this if I ever got a series X. Imagine having parties and whipping out an upscaled Mario Kart Double Dash or Mario Kart Wii!

Does the Dev mode app have any downsides? Does it restrict other uses of a consumer Xbox or break any Terms of Service to use it in this way? Like could you get banned from Live/GPU or anything for doing this?

Re: Pick One: If You Could Only Play One Of These, Which Would It Be?

ralphdibny

@CrazyJF nice, mines the other way around because 4 was my pack in and I got 3 a bit later on 😅

So good though, also stuff like Burnout and Destruction Derby was so good. I think the racing games are a bit better when they are less realistic.

Considering the reputation of Motorsport though, it was a huge surprise when I found Horizon to be an off road, open world and generally bonkers game. It's sort of realistic but then like totally unrealistic as my car flipping down the side of the mountain will attest!

Re: Pick One: If You Could Only Play One Of These, Which Would It Be?

ralphdibny

If I could only play one? It's hard to choose between Ori and Forza.

I haven't played Will of the Wisps yet but Blind Forest is probably the best Xbox One game I've played so far.

Forza Horizon 4 was my first game on the Xbox One X and it blew me away. Very surprising for a genre that I'm not typically interested in.

They are two of the best games/series on Xbox in my opinion but I chose Forza Horizon 4 in the end just because it is a longer game. I could play it for longer without feeling like I am "playing it over again".

Re: Random: Rain On Your Parade Has An Awesome Metal Gear Solid Level

ralphdibny

Is that the American Office or the English Office? I feel like I'd understand references to the latter just because I'm more familiar with it. Not saying the American one is bad, I actually prefer what ive seen of it but I haven't seen all 8 or whatever it is seasons in comparison to the English versions 2 + Xmas special

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Is Getting Street Fighter DLC, Obviously

ralphdibny

@Vinsanity that is a pretty rad trailer! You've gotta applaud Jason David Frank for keeping a straight face through some of that lore heavy dialogue though 😂.

I've got the TMNT and Justice League crossovers because they are fairly self contained, I don't really have the time/money to get into the main Boom series as good as it sounds. I do have the 6 foil Montes variant covers framed on my wall though, of the ranger's torsos holding their helmets around their tummy area. I didn't get the foil turtles variants because there were just too many combinations! Also I kept having visions of a grim alternate where a ranger would be holding a turtles head instead 😅

I picked up a couple of the Guilty Gear games on PS4 a few weeks a go because they cost like a quid each. Well worth it at that price!

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Is Getting Street Fighter DLC, Obviously

ralphdibny

@JayJ same here, I was reminiscing about Rival Schools over on Push Square a week ago and how that game was stuffed to the brim with multiple versions of the game and loads of extras and mini games.

Nowadays I either buy fighting games on a whim or I judge by the developers/publishers previous form with releases. E.g. Bandai Namco aren't known for physical complete editions so I got DB FighterZ and slowly picked up the DLCs when they go on sale. On the other hand, Netherealm are known for their complete editions so I've been waiting patiently for a complete mortal Kombat 11 for years (I've heard even MK11 Ultimate isn't complete and that there is space in the game to add a number of new fighters so I've held out on that one even though I'm real tempted by its current £25 price at Currys). Street fighter IV got a more or less complete version by the next gen (PS3>PS4) so hopefully next year or the year after for SFV.

But yeah nWay had no previous form because they'd only made a mobile game prior so Battle for the Grid was a bit of a punt really! Had no idea it would be popular enough to warrant 4 DLC passes and various physical releases!

Tekken and Soul Calibur just get the passes too, no complete editions so it's just worth making do with the base game on them. I won't even go near the latest Dead or Alive though, £55 for a season pass? Get real! 😂

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Is Getting Street Fighter DLC, Obviously

ralphdibny

It's not that weird to add these characters this time around, I believe they were in nWay's previous Power Rangers game for mobile.

Having said that, I would have been surprised when they added these characters to that older game a few years back!

Damn though, a super edition? You just never know which digital games will get physical releases, complete editions at that! This one stings a little bit because I've bought the game and all its DLC (when it was on sale) over the years

Re: Rumour Roundup: The Hottest Xbox Rumours We've Seen In April 2021

ralphdibny

@Arcnail I think "being an Xbox" is when your experience and relationship with your console transcends the normal limits of modern gaming and you become one with the Xbox. Mind and machine converge and your consciousness exists only in the (x)cloud. It is a state that few attain and even fewer return from to tell the tale.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Buying In The Xbox Spring Sale 2021?

ralphdibny

I genuinely think I own everything I want in this sale already. There's maybe a couple of things that I'm not ready for yet but they are always on sale so it's not that pressing. I'd really like to get that Lara Croft Guardian of Light if they ever discount it again. I've got the second one but the first one seems to have been a GwG twice (according to the reviews), before my time with Xbox and hasn't been discounted since

Re: How To Claim 2500 Bonus Microsoft Points On Xbox In April

ralphdibny

@Static1 have you checked that you are logged into your Microsoft account on the various browsers? Near the top right of the search page it should show your MS profile pic if you have one (not your Xbox pic unless it's the same), a trophy with a circle that moves when points get added and the number of points. This is for PC/Xbox browsers. I'd just use Edge on Xbox though because it counts toward the PC Search and the Edge Bonus! 102 points in total from 90+12. But yeah you should see your points tally go up in that top right corner as you do the searches.

I think you log into the Bing mobile app when you install it but should show your profile pic down the bottom

If that's all good and the Rewards App on Xbox ain't showing you the search points, you might need to quit the app completely (Menu button over the icon and Quit) and reopen it and the total should have amended.

Re: How To Earn Free Xbox Gift Cards Every Month With Microsoft Rewards

ralphdibny

Ahh sorry @FraserG , I only just saw this article because I got linked over from your April punch card article. I didn't know it existed when I created my "guide" in the forums. Not that mine is getting many views anyway lol.

I don't think I've doubled up on any information in the thread anyway but I've added a link to this article now so I hope it's OK and I'm not stepping on anyone's toes!

Re: How To Claim 2000 Bonus Microsoft Points On Xbox In April

ralphdibny

Any tips on the easiest/quickest achievement to pick up in that top 10?

I've played through gears 5, battletoads, Forza Horizon 4 and the Halo MCC campaigns already but didn't hunt for achievements in any so I'll only have the basic amount of achievements for a casual playthrough on those games. I think The Medium is XSX exclusive so I can't play that anyway and I'm not keen on starting Ori 2 for an achievement as I actually want to make some time to play that game properly.

I also seem to have issues actually activating this punch card at the moment too 🤔. I click activate but it just takes me out to the main rewards page and the quest still reads 0/2 complete (activating it should have been the 1/2)

edit: forget this, I activated it, I have a gears 5 achievement lined up too, something about completing 3 different types of multiplayer game...

Edit 2: I actually played one game of gridiron with bots on gear 5 and got an achievement for getting a touch down!

Re: How To Claim 2000 Bonus Microsoft Points On Xbox In April

ralphdibny

Gosh I am going for that outriders achievement. Seems like the first achievement you can get is completing the prologue. Was just going to use this for the 250pt punch card, 50pt daily achievement quest and to top up whatever punch cards need a a number of achievements.

But yeah, after a number of connection errors I managed to get in to the game. Played it for twenty minutes and now I keep getting connection errors again. Hopefully I can get back into it soon. Luckily you can skip about half of the cut scenes and all of the dialogue when you are actually playing.

Re: Deals: Xbox Bandai Namco Sale Now Live, Featuring Over 80 Games

ralphdibny

@Kalvort ahh sorry, I haven't actually played it yet. I was saying I want to buy a physical copy one day but also benefit from a sale on the season pass. They only ever discount the bundles so it's more tempting to buy the bundle digitally on sale than it is to buy a physical copy + full price season pass. But yeah I kind of want to own it on disc so there isn't really an option for me!

The game looks good though, I heard it was a bit grindy but just playing through all of Z as a game is an enticing offer really. They did a decent write up of it over on Push Square:

Re: Years After Release, Resident Evil 7 Is Still Shipping Over One Million Copies Every Year

ralphdibny

Really weird for this to be the case. I'm guessing they are just shipping the vanilla RE7 disc? It's really hard to find the Gold version on Xbox One with the DLC included on disc. It's available second hand in the UK but is quite expensive unless you get lucky with an auction.

I'm guessing they are referring to the PS4 version as well though where both Gold and Standard are available in abundance.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Subscribers 'Spend 20% More On Gaming', Says Exec

ralphdibny

It's a bit of a weird one. I've certainly been linked to other games in a series from playing a particular iteration on game pass. So I would spend money on a separate game in the same series.

I suspect I may be an outlier here though, I would never buy DLC for a game from a subscription. It doesn't sit right with me to spend money on content for a game that I am renting/subscribing to. I would have to buy the game in its entirety before I felt right about buying DLC for it.

With that in mind, I'd be less inclined to buy a game that is on game pass anyway so I would never buy the DLC for it either.

I think for some games, this means I won't get the full experience if the DLC isn't included on game pass.

But on some other games that I would want to own properly, (and these are rare occurences) I would have to buy the game even if it's on game pass. For example, I bought the Doom Eternal Deluxe Edition with the season pass even though the base game was on game pass.

This is rare though because I absolutely love the Doom series so I would want to collect the games physically to own anyway.

I just don't want to buy DLC for something I can't access when my sub runs out. I wouldn't have bought the Gears 5 Hivebusters DLC without owning the base game if it wasn't already included in my sub.
