Re: God Of War: Ragnarök Dev Chimes In On Starfield's 30FPS Xbox Limit

MinervaX

I am going to mention something I said before:

There is a high chance that player mods on the console version will be a thing, and a mod could potentially change the game enough to enable 60fps and disable X or Y to make it happen. Only issue there is that mods that are not part of the Creation Club tend to disable the ability to earn achievements in previous entries of the game.

Re: Starfield Will Run At 4K / 30FPS On Xbox Series X, 1440p / 30FPS On Series S

MinervaX

@NEStalgia

if it doesn't cover home there's kind of no point. If I'm going to do wifi calling then I can just do voip and not bother with paying a cell company.

Then how you drag that voip to the store or while driving around? It might not sound like it, but I do leave the house often enough 😝

Edit: me spending most my time in my home office, in my basement, is likely why I dont get signal at home, though....

Re: Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora Free DLC Announced For PS5, Paid On Xbox

MinervaX

If you ask on PushSquare, this is nowhere near as evil as placing an embargo on Persona 3 multiplat confirmations.

Anyways, I don’t care about these cosmetics, but if I did, I still would likely rather pay extra to play on my preferred platform than get it on PS5. My PS5 is my third console, and I only play exclusives on it.

Re: God Of War: Ragnarök Dev Chimes In On Starfield's 30FPS Xbox Limit

MinervaX

@Zoidpilot4 Dreamcast guy is indeed a clown. Anyone following my posting history knows I’m as Pro Xbox as it comes without being a blind fanboy.

At the end I think this game looks great, and I’m happy for anyone that is not bothered by the 30fps cap on consoles, but I am playing this one on PC. Already got me the constellation edition, the controller, and a rig that is well above minimum specs to install on my gaming room.

Re: God Of War: Ragnarök Dev Chimes In On Starfield's 30FPS Xbox Limit

MinervaX

Not buying that take. An option for the player would not sacrifice the 4k mode. I’m sure PC players will get a ton of settings they can adjust to get 60fps.

What I would buy is that other things going on at the CPU level, like physics calculations, prevent the implementation of a lower-res 60fps mode, but that is not what we were told. They specifically said “don’t want to sacrifice fidelity*.

Re: Starfield Will Run At 4K / 30FPS On Xbox Series X, 1440p / 30FPS On Series S

MinervaX

@SplooshDmg @NEStalgia I have a gaming laptop that is well above recommended specs for the game, it was also well above 2k when I bought it years ago, but still also ordered a new tower with a 3080gtx, i7 12th Gen and 1TB M2 NVME drive that I plan to hook up to my gaming room TV mostly to play this game. Not exclusively, mind you. I been meaning to invert on such a right to emulate PS3 games.

Also Nestalgia: I don’t trust just any sd card brand (one off brand sd card on my Wii once caught fire….) and a 1TB sd card can easily approach $100.

Edit: oh also: on the creation engine, anecdote: when Skyrim launched on PS3 it ran like hell after long enough. I remember an article explaining the reason was they found out for some reason the dragon scripts never stopped running after they got spawned, so if you didn’t kill a dragon, that dragon was “always running” and that killed the PS3 CPU. Think it was a bug on all platforms, though.

Re: Starfield Will Run At 4K / 30FPS On Xbox Series X, 1440p / 30FPS On Series S

MinervaX

@SplooshDmg leaving a stick at the start zone and finding it again 80 hours later is more about memory and storage. In Zelda, yea things vanish if you move too far away and come back, because their position is not saved to disk after that area is unloaded.

Creation games save that to disk, can result on some absurd large save files. I recall back in the day filling my X360 HD with Oblivion save files.

Edit: also Skyrim toned down on this by resetting most items and containers after X amount of hours unless the container was marked “safe”, so you might not find that stick there 200 hours later.

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Announced For Xbox Series X|S

MinervaX

@wazza99999 @Krysus @themightyant they might still provide continued support for the 2020 version via real time weather and other online features and minor patches.

Honestly, I would think a new entry would be better, especially if purchases carry over, since this means 2024 is free with Game Pass white a FS2024 expansion would had been likely an expensive paid DLC, and DLC are never part of GP.

Also, with a sequel, they can rethink internal systems, engine features and what not. Structural changes are usually out of the question when maintaining the same base core game. You can change and improve a lot more when you simply make a sequel.

Re: Starfield Xbox Controller, Headset & Watch Officially Announced

MinervaX

Went for it and ordered the Steam/Pc version of that ridiculous constellation edition. Xbox version was sold out by the time I caved in. Hopefully the game has some sort of cross save feature with Steam, but highly doubt it.

Of course I also ordered the controller… skipping on the headset, though.

Re: Starfield Will Run At 4K / 30FPS On Xbox Series X, 1440p / 30FPS On Series S

MinervaX

@Green-Bandit @NEStalgia The price is not going up, the white model is still available (at least for the time being, I do think if we suddenly see supply dwindle and not getting restocks, it should be called out.)

Side note and a bit on topic, I ended up buying that dumb $300 collectors edition... for PC That actually means I’ll be playing it on Steam. It's an Amazon order though so I got until a week from launch to cancel it if I truly truly regret it.

Re: FTC Requests Temporary Restraining Order Against Microsoft & Activision Blizzard

MinervaX

@NEStalgia in this one I side with the FTC. Lets assume for a second they genuinely think they have a case, there is no point in litigating the case if you simply allow the merger to happen while you are litigating.

Forcing a split post merger, in the US, is the stuff of ancient history. I don't see the US gov forcing such a thing in my lifetime. Therefore, what happens instead, is that you file an injunction to prevent the action to occur while the case is still pending.

Re: FTC Requests Temporary Restraining Order Against Microsoft & Activision Blizzard

MinervaX

As I mentioned in Push Square, I expect this injunction to be granted. There is no point for legal procedures if there is no injunctions. That is one of the reasons they [injunctions] exist for.

There is a minimal chance that the courts might require the FTC go to proper federal court if they want the injunction granted, but I doubt it.

This wont hurt the deal, MS and ABK are very likely already negotiating an extension to their deadline.

Re: Starfield Will Run At 4K / 30FPS On Xbox Series X, 1440p / 30FPS On Series S

MinervaX

@SplooshDmg Not sure how "feedback we're getting right now" changes his response. If they are working on a pro model, development started just as the Xbox Series shipped, if not earlier.

The truth is no one at Xbox will acknowledge any plans until they actually announce the thing. Unless Phil comes out and actually says "we wont be having another console until the generation is over" I am hedging my bets they are internally working on a refresh and ready to launch it reactively if Sony announces theirs.

We also know from devs that the Switch "pro" was real, plenty of devs had dev kits, Nintendo simply opted the logistics didn't work out. Same can happen here, but I think its a very safe bet to say they have something baking and near ready if they feel they need it. Making a mid-gen (or new gen) console isn't something that happens overnight, not even within a year, after all.

Edit:
I feel I lost track of what I was trying to say: my point is he didn't deny they will make a mid-gen refresh. All he denied is they need it.

Re: Assassin's Creed Mirage Continues To Impress In Seven Minutes Of Raw Footage

MinervaX

Very hyped for this. I do see now that "back to roots" simply means environmentally. There are still quite a few staples of recent games, like being able to sneak through tall grass (used to be hiding was a very still thing) and using a flying pet to scout the area for targets. Plus some, seemingly ungodly magical abilities like that multi-target assassination move.

This is not me pointing negatives, my main desire was returning to more urban nevironments with more opportunities for vertical movement, escapes and assassinations.

Re: Ubisoft Shares A Closer Look At Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown

MinervaX

The game in isolation looks very cool. Always up for some metroidvania, and the combat on this looks amazing.

My one nitpick is that they gave the prince a name. As far as I know, the prince was never given a name in the 2D or 3D games, he was always just called The Prince. Other than this being related to a Persian prince (that we dont actually play as), it does not seem tied to the IP at all. Not a huge issue, though.

Re: Xbox Boss Praises Japanese Relationships, But Admits Square Enix Needs More Work

MinervaX

@Cashews

They brought FF12 to the 360. It didn't move the needle then

FF11, 12 only came to Xbox when the remaster came out for all platforms.

During that generation, Xbox did pay for the entire development of a few JRPG titles, some they even kept ownership on.

Blue Dragon [Mistwalker, 2006]
Project Sylpheed [Square, 2006]
Lost Odessey [Feelplus, 2007]
Infinite Undiscovery [Square, 2008]
The Last Remnant [Square, 2008]

Since then, the only one of these to come out on other platforms has been The Last Remnant remastered on PS4.

These titles did help move the needle a bit in Japan. Not much, but XBox Series consoles are still just 27% of the X360 sales total. I dont think Xbox will ever dominate Japan, but they could gain a bit more traction if they had more jrpg games developed exclusively for the ecosystem.

Re: Poll: Are You Interested In Buying The Black Xbox Series S?

MinervaX

Nah. I have a Series X in my gaming room and a Series S in my living room. Personally, the Series S looks better in white, and just yesterday Bestbuy had yet another sale (24 hour over by now) of the Series S for $250. For $90 I can add a 1 TB storage card and end up with more space than this model. So even if I didn’t have an Xbox I feel going for the cheaper S is a better deal, if one waits for one of the nearly weekly Series S sales.

I don’t see this model going on discount soon, but maybe it will around Black Friday, making it a more interesting option.

Re: Starfield At 30FPS Is A Creative Decision, Says Xbox's Phil Spencer

MinervaX

Hopefully we will hear more about mod support on consoles in todays extended showcase. Fallout 4 and Skyrim both had console mods that enabled 60fps. Hopefully they trash the whole “can’t get achievements with mods enabled” thing.

Else I will likely be buying me a new fancy PC tower just for this game. I’m lucky enough to be able to have the spare budget to do that but it really sucks for everyone. Plus PC don’t have Quick Resume.

Re: Xbox Boss Praises Japanese Relationships, But Admits Square Enix Needs More Work

MinervaX

Square is… square. They are basically in so much economical struggle they will take any exclusivity deal that is dropped on their table with a high enough sum. Xbox no longer believes in paying too much money for exclusivity.

What I hope is that Phil does not sleep on this relationship with Sega: make sure Persona 6 is not locked by Sony as an exclusive. Hell, fight hard to get the marketing rights!

Also, expand your reach to Koei Tecmo and Gust to start bringing Atelier games over to Xbox!

Re: Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Sets 'Early 2024' Release Date For Xbox

MinervaX

@Utena-mobile

I've never been a fan of Saint's Row and Grand Theft Auto, but I'm going to give Yakuza and Like a Dragon a try.

Good news: the game has nothing in common with GTA or Saint's Row. Not even its focus on "a criminal". Ichiban is the "henchman with a heart of gold" stereotype of character and is more a hero than anything else, and the games are not open world chaos simulators. Some of the earlier entries do have some small open-worldish elements, but they are confined to very small areas (like a neighborhood/turf) and not large cities or anything like that. You wont ever drive a vehicle (at least not on the last entry.)
