This is why I don’t read reviews. The first Dying Light also received very mixed reviews, sitting at an aggregate score of 74 on Metacritic (I’m only referencing it to make a point, as I don’t see the value in it). At the time, I passed on it because of the reviews and when I finally played it for myself, I couldn’t believe how much I disagreed with what I had read. It’s one of my favorite games now and I still enjoy it. I think this is probably the case with this game as well, although I’ll make up my mind when I finally play it.
His candid, levelheaded response speaks to his wisdom as a leader and it doesn’t seem like he was reactionary, but deliberate with the process he went through. It’s a tough position to be in, I’m sure; his thoughts about it are nice to hear.
I’m still deciding on what to buy. I’m eyeing the Resident Evil 2+3 bundle, and now that Disco Elysium is finally on sale I may grab that as well. It wasn’t part of the sale, but I bought The Orange Box yesterday because I had a hankering to play Portal again and having the Half-Life games isn’t a bad bonus. Also, the Team Fortress 2 servers are still live which is crazy. I tried to find someone to play with but no luck.
Thank you for mentioning the difference in who is making it. I was very confused when I saw there was going to be a sequel because I thought the company was gone forever. I don’t keep up on gaming news like I used to!
@UltimateOtaku91 I think it’s just Metacritic saying “here’s the games that scored the best on this platform.” And since this is an Xbox site, they just listed the Xbox games. If you go to Metacritic you can see each individual system’s highest scoring games as well. I hope that makes sense.
@K1LLEGAL Thanks for all of your thoughts on it! I don’t usually power through games, so I don’t think I’ll get burnt out. I really appreciate the recommendation though, sounds like a good time.
@Kienda Agreed. I really like being able to try a game before purchasing it, and even better that it’s on sale at the same time. It looks like Odyssey is only on sale for less than 2 hours as of this comment. It’s a bit odd to me. Still, I’m excited to try it and see how it runs on my Series S. Does anyone have comments on the DLC for it?
@Scenes Sorry to hear that. I want to buy F.E.A.R. digitally and can’t either. It’s a bummer that all of the announced titles aren’t available digitally.
I really don’t think it’s as bad as some are making it out to be. It’s asking people to play the game in unique ways, and it seems for some people that’s an issue. I really don’t mind it I guess because I’m just playing for fun and if I compete a challenge, neat. If I don’t, I’m still playing the newest Halo that wasn’t supposed to release for several weeks. That’s a huge win to me.
This is a bit older and not on Xbox, but Eternal Darkness really stands out. Specifically, the bathtub scene. It was a brilliant jump scare and one that instantly comes to my mind when this topic comes up.
@pip_muzz I’ll give a slightly different impression. I played a heck of a lot of Left 4 Dead and thought this game nailed the feeling completely. I thought it was really fun and I can’t wait to play more of it.
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting him in person several years ago. He was incredible nice and kind, really made an impression on me. Anyway, I will definitely give it a shot. Also, is he not going by SWERY anymore?
I tried playing last night and received an error stating my privacy settings needed to be changed. I changed and then when I tried to play it said I was banned. So…yeah.
I’m super happy to see Breakdown here. I loved that game so much. I didn’t realize The Orange Box is backwards compatible though, that’s really great news.
@Hellosmoothskin I came to that same conclusion several years ago. The negativity was unbearable for me. I used to be very active; I even wrote for a site for a few years, but the constant criticism can be demoralizing. I have actually only recently been back on gaming websites, and even then it’s only a select few. Sadly, I’ve been thinking even coming back was a mistake as the miserable nature of gamers is unpalatable to me at this point in my life. I love video games so much, and I love all of the good things about them. I also hardly ever read any reviews of games, as I find playing and trying them for myself much more enjoyable than reading about the nitpicking of someone whose job it is to play the game. WhichI don’t mean as a put down, simply that a reviewer will play a game differently than I will. And GamePass is just perfect for that; I can try out a variety of games without any sort of commitment if I don’t enjoy it. The vocal minority is a shame, but there are many of us that still love to be positive about such an amazing hobby.
I go back and forth with Souls-like games. I get burnt out and hate them because I’m not that great at them; but I also adore the level design and world and want to just explore it, so I keep pushing on. I am excited about this game though, hopefully it won’t be as difficult for me to get through.
All of the games looked interesting to me in some way, and I’ll be trying them out when they release. I think Bushiden looks the most exciting though, pretty excited about it.
