Re: Xbox Boss Suggests PS5 Represents A Heavy Financial Investment

Octane

@Kefka2589 @LtSarge I think it has to do with the fact that both PS+ and PS Now aren't their main strategy (maybe PS+ is). However, I think the positive side is that it allows costumers to pick. The downside is that it's more complicated than GamePass, but you can sub to PS Now, without ever paying for PS+ and vice versa. Both are $60 a year (120 in total), whereas Game Pass Ultimate is $180 for a year. PS+ comes with the PS+ Collection on PS5; 20 essential games. So I think you can make an argument for it. It's not a bad deal. You are missing out on the big Sony releases, but I don't think it makes sense for them to include it for that price. Especially not if they keep releasing several each year.

With GamePass it's simpler because it's all under one branding. Maybe Sony should change their branding as well, and offer option within that sub (monthly games, streaming games, etc.), and allow users to pick and choose. Essentially what they have now, but under one rebranded name so they can advertise it better.

Re: Sony Responds To Xbox With Official PS5 Price Reveal

@KelticDevil ''with the huge power gap between the PS5 and XSX''

The relative difference is smaller than it was between Xbox One and PS4. You probably won't be able to tell the difference between two consoles if they were running side by side.

Re: Leaked Xbox Series S Reveal Trailer Confirms 120FPS Support, 512GB SSD

Octane

@BrilliantBill @FraserG Neat. I wonder what the catch is though. It does 1440p at 120fps, and has 4K support (supposedly at 60fps then). The lack of disc drive alone can't explain this price! This sounds similar on paper to the PS5 digital, except I expect it to be at least 400 (assuming the consoles are 500).

Re: Microsoft Officially Reveals The Xbox Series S, £249 Confirmed

Octane

@RadioHedgeFund Not entirely true. N64 cartridges were reportedly up to $30 to manufacture. This cost is pretty much completely ignored with disc-based games, since their manufacturing price is only a few cents. PS1 games were around €30-40. In the GameCube/Xbox/PS2 the average price was around €50. That increased to €60 with the PS3/360 and Wii U. These days a lot of AAA games are already €70 digitally. Breath of the Wild was one of the first ones to adopt this price. And €70 is going to be a lot more prominent going into next gen. Games prices have increased where I live at least.

The rise of digital also means that publishers earn more per game, and then all the digital-only sales, like DLC, micro-transactions, season passes, etc. The average revenue per game has gone up according to inflation. Don't worry about that. They're making more per game than they used to.

Re: Don't Expect 'New' Next-Gen Xbox News At The Tokyo Game Show

Octane

@Nexozi Don't worry. Nintendo fully revealed the Switch six weeks before launch and they were fine (I thought it was a stupid move as well, but it worked out).

Things change, and you don't need long hype cycles anymore. News will come soon. They can't wait too long, but I definitely expect more this month.

Re: Don't Expect 'New' Next-Gen Xbox News At The Tokyo Game Show

Octane

Kinda makes sense. It's a Japan-centric event and they've never done amazing over there. So revealing something brand new there seems like wasting a good opportunity that could've been used to hype up their console at another event that's more geared towards NA and Europe.

Re: Xbox Boss: Our Approach Isn't About Selling More Consoles Than PS5

Octane

@KelticDevil At the same time, some people always feel the need to mention Sony and PushSquare in pretty much every comment section, even though it has nothing to do with it. Classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

I also bet that the vast majority of PushSquare regulars don't have posted a single comment here yet, so it's a gross generalisation. Just to put in perspective. These comments like "the PushSquare crowd does this", "the PureXbox crowd does that" don't contribute to anything positive either. And don't worry, I'll rag on anyone on PS or NL as well if necessary.

Like you say; Just enjoy the system you buy & play some games.

Re: Talking Point: Should The Xbox One Version Of Halo Infinite Be Scrapped?

Octane

Interesting results, I didn't expect most to be in favour of scrapping the One version. I think it's a bit late for that. Ideally they would've focused on the Series X. But there's no point in scrapping it now. They've also said that they're still committed to the Xbox One, so it'll create a PR nightmare if they suddenly cancel the game for Xbox One and make it a next gen exclusive.

Re: Microsoft Reveals The Xbox Series X Will Launch In November

Octane

@Jaxx420 I've said before that we don't know the full launch line-up of either console yet. But since MS has delayed Halo, that's one less game at least.

I expect Sony to announce more soon. Rumours are that GT7 is going to be a launch title, or maybe Ratchet & Clank. Either way, it'll come with Astro's Playroom at least. That's something lol (I'm genuinely looking forward to it). If we're looking at R&C or GT7, with Spider-Man: MM and a free game in the form of Astro's Playroom, that's pretty decent. Especially if either R&C or GT7 is coming soon in 2021, along with Demon's Souls and Horizon 2. And I forgot about the Sackboy platformer as well. I think it'll make for a good launch year, much better than the PS4's first year.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About The Delay To Halo Infinite?

Octane

It's a shame. But having only one launch title is quite risky. You basically have to hold it back, like BOTW if you want to be 100% is gets out on launch day. Considering the Series X patch wasn't even ready, I think they were rushing it instead of taking it easy. So I'm not too surprised.
